The state government has announced it has locked in a three-year deal with WWE without divulging the price tag, as questions over event spending transparency continue to swirl.

Hyperliquid Strategies’ stock climbed 10.99% to $12.83 on Thursday after the treasury company reported $305.5 million in net income for the fiscal year ended June 30. PURR added another 3.43% to $13.27 in after-hours trading.

The Nasdaq-listed firm finished the period with 29.3 million HYPE tokens and $149.9 million in cash. It carries no debt.

HYPE Rally Drives the Profit

Most of the earnings came from token price movement. Unrealized gains on the HYPE token reached $709.9 million, according to the company’s results.

A one-time loss of $169.2 million on tokens contributed at the business combination offset part of that figure. Deferred tax expense absorbed another $183.5 million.

Operating income stayed small by comparison. Staking revenue and validator commissions totaled $9.5 million, while interest income added $2.7 million.

Total assets reached $2.06 billion, including $1.9 billion in HYPE valued at $65.04 per token. CEO David Schamis framed the year as a build phase.

“We more than doubled our HYPE treasury, jointly launched a validator that has quickly become one of the largest on the network and completed the exit from our legacy biotech operations,” Schamis said.

Meanwhile, Hyperliquid Strategies raised $646.6 million through a committed equity facility at an average of $8.70 per share. It also deployed $773.4 million to buy roughly 16.5 million HYPE at an average of $46.77.

The company spent $27.8 million repurchasing about 5.8 million PURR shares at an average price of $4.80. Cash stood at $132.6 million as of August 19.

HYPE Treasuries Split From the Sector

HYPE appreciated about 77% during the quarter ended June 30. Total digital asset market capitalization fell roughly 13% over the same stretch.

That divergence separated HYPE-focused vehicles from the rest of the treasury sector, which saw losses. Hyperion DeFi reported record quarterly net income of $31 million this month, driven by similar treasury gains.

Companies tied to other tokens reported the opposite. Bitcoin’s (BTC) largest corporate holder, Strategy, booked an $8.62 billion net quarterly loss.

Bit Digital posted a $107.2 million loss, with roughly $86 million tied to writedowns and non-operating items. Token performance, rather than treasury design, drove most of the gap this quarter.

Taylor Sheridan has spent the last 6–8 years expanding his television empire at Paramount, but he was writing iconic movie scripts before he ever penned a single episode of hit shows like Yellowstone and Mayor of Kingstown. He’s also been tapped to write the script for the new Call of Duty movie coming to Paramount in 2028 — Peter Berg is directing from Sheridan’s script, and Sheridan is also producing the action feature.

It’s Sheridan’s work producing Yellowstone offshoots like Marshals and Dutton Ranch that has put him in the spotlight in 2026. He has other non-Yellowstone shows that have attracted large audiences in recent years. One of said series’ is Tulsa King, the gritty, Oklahoma-set crime thriller starring Sylvester Stallone opposite a host of other legendary actors as old mob bosses. It’s now been almost a full year since the third season of Tulsa King was added to Paramount Plus, and fans expect that news about a Season 4 release date will be coming any day now. Tulsa King star Sylvester Stallone took to his active personal Instagram earlier this year to confirm that Tulsa King had wrapped filming and was in the editing stage — this was in April, so the show is certainly ready to return soon.

Is ‘Tulsa King’ Getting a Season 5?

Paramount has yet to publicly announce the fate of Tulsa King beyond Season 4, but there are a few things worth noting when thinking about the future of the show. Taylor Sheridan has never written a show that lasted beyond five seasons — both Yellowstone and Mayor of Kingstown called it quits at Season 5, so even if Tulsa King is picked up for another season, it’s likely that it would be the final batch of episodes. There is a Tulsa King spin-off, Frisco King (starring Samuel L. Jackson), confirmed to be releasing in 2027.

Incoming Apple CEO John Ternus met The Pokémon Company team and Pikachu at Apple Park on Thursday. Tim Cook shared the visit on X ahead of the September 1 handover.

Cook gives up day-to-day control next week. The meeting, therefore, introduced Apple’s next chief to one of the biggest franchises in gaming.

Cook kept the tone light. He set out a three-item agenda for the day, namely introducing Ternus to the Pokémon team, discussing gaming, and keeping Pikachu away from the Apple Park pond. Two of the three worked, he joked.

The video he posted follows Pikachu across the campus. The mascot dances under the rainbow arch and helps itself to fruit in the orchard. The pond, judging by Cook’s punchline, won in the end.

Ternus arrives with a low public profile after two decades inside Apple’s hardware engineering group. Apple named him chief executive in April. Cook has led the company since 2011 and keeps his board seat as executive chairman.

Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and chief executive of The Pokémon Company, joined the visit. Pokémon has shipped mobile titles on iOS for a decade. Apple, meanwhile, keeps treating games as a services growth engine.

Apple shares closed at $314.58 on Thursday, up 0.36% on the day. The stock has added 37.6% over the past year. It has slipped 7.5% in the past month, however, after the Q3 earnings reaction in late July.

Ternus also takes the job eight days before Apple’s September 9 iPhone keynote. Apple has billed the event with the line “Surprise and shine,” and the iPhone 18 Pro, plus a first foldable iPhone lead expectations.

Nintendo Stock Climbs as Pokémon Worlds Opens in San Francisco

Nintendo gained 3.5% to ¥9,032 in Tokyo on Friday, or about $57 at current rates. The stock still trades roughly 38% under its ¥14,630 record from last year, worth close to $92.

Nintendo co-owns The Pokémon Company with Game Freak and Creatures. Pokémon revenue therefore reaches Nintendo indirectly, on top of Switch software sales.

Nintendo’s fiscal 2026 revenue nearly doubled to ¥2.31 trillion, around $14.5 billion, as Switch 2 shipped. Management has since reaffirmed guidance of 16.5 million Switch 2 units for the current year.

The timing helps. The Pokémon World Championships open at San Francisco’s Moscone Center on Friday and run through Sunday. Gaming has moved markets repeatedly this month. Take-Two lost billions in value after a GTA 6 leak, then answered with a Netflix reveal.

For crypto readers, the Apple CEO handover matters less for games than for App Store policy. Ternus inherits the rules that decide how wallets and payment apps reach iPhone users, an overlooked crypto angle of the transition.

Apple CEO John Ternus starts on September 1. Cook stays on as executive chairman, however, so his influence does not disappear overnight. The September keynote should show how much of Apple’s gaming talk turns into product.

The casting process for the next actor to lead the James Bond franchise seems to be nearing an end.

“While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right,” a spokesperson said, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Callum Turner and Jacob Elordi all thought to be the hot favourites for the role at that time.

On Wednesday, Page Six reported that the next stage of the process was screen tests, with six actors left in consideration.

According to the outlet’s “insiders” Jack Barton is bosses’ new top pick for the job, after impressing filmmaker Denis Villeneuve and casting director Nina Gold.

Jack is somewhat less well-known than some of the other actors previously tipped for the 007 gig, but he did play John Tonkin in SAS: Rogue Heroes and Kit Connor’s on-screen brother in Netflix’s Heartstopper.

Page Six also claimed that five more stars will be doing screen tests imminently, alleging that the previously-rumoured Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson are all still in the frame.

Interestingly, the sixth name on their list was Oscar nominee Paul Mescal, marking the first time he’s been linked with James Bond in the press in some time.

Naturally, these rumours have already sparked a lot of conversation on social media…

HuffPost UK has contacted reps for Jack Barton and Amazon MGM Studios for comment.

Earlier this year, producer Amy Pascal said the studio was looking for “something really different that is… stirring and exciting and different” in their next James Bond.

Little else is known about the next instalment in the spy franchise, other than that it will be written by Peaky Blinders and House Of Guinness creator Steven Knight.

I start the season, like the teams we cover, with a perfect record.

This week, I am making picks for the following three games:

Let’s get on to my picks!

San Jose State at No. 14 USC

Saturday, August 29th
12:00 PM PT, NBC

USC has an opportunity to fine-tune some things against San Jose State. The Trojans are a borderline College Football Playoff team, and the Spartans are projected to be near the bottom of the Mountain West.

Jayden Maiava will look to form connections with new playmakers Terrell Anderson and Trent Mosley. Maiava finished second in the nation in QBR in 2025.

Flipping the state, SC’s new defensive coordinator Gary Patterson should make light work of SJSU. The Spartans have the second-lowest returning production in the nation, and their offense ranked 113th in points scored per game a year ago.

They’ll also be breaking in a new quarterback in Luke Weaver. Guys like Luke Wafle and Jontez Williams could capitalize. The only returners on SJSU’s offense are two starting linemen.

Lincoln Riley has made a habit of destroying non-Power Four teams in the opener, and he’ll continue this trend against the Spartans.

USC eviscerates San Jose State.

Hawai’i at Stanford

Saturday, August 29th

From a talent standpoint, this should prove a good matchup. Stanford enters this contest needing a win. Losing to Hawaii two years in a row would hurt the brand.

The Rainbow Warriors are talented this year, but it’s a cold world.

The key to a Cardinal victory is finding consistency on offense.  Quarterback Davis Warren transferred in from Michigan, and he has plenty of experience leading a high-level program; he’s already attempted over 200 passes at the collegiate level.

Complementing him is Micah Ford at halfback. If Ford can get going early, it will take some pressure off the Tree offensively.

Hawaii is hoping Micah Alejado can lead the Bows to a third-straight victory over a Bay Area school. Alejado, who balled while beat up last year, should be able to exploit Stanford’s pass defense, which was last in the nation in 2025.

UH also gets back running back Cam Barfield, who had 80 touches a year ago. Rounding out the trio is Pofele Ashlock in the slot. The offensive line also returns three seniors, making this a complete unit.

The Bows’ defense is a bit sketchy, though they do have at least one proven player at every level.

Hawai’i might be the better team, but Stanford skrrtt’s by.

Memphis at UNLV

Saturday, August 29th

UNLV is playing Memphis at a clutch time. The Tigers have a streak of 12 straight .500+ seasons, but their offense is completely new. Their only returning starter is right guard Parker Mitchell; everyone else is gone.

The Rebels’ biggest concern on defense should be stopping Dallan Hayden, a Colorado transfer. UNLV’s defensive line is the soft spot of their unit,  but U of M’s line is unproven, which will likely help them in this matchup.

Memphis also isn’t revealing who their starting quarterback’s going to be.

Flipping the script, the Rebels should be able to run the ball against the Tigers. UNLV returns halfback Jai’Den Thomas, a shifty runner who averaged 7.0 yards per carry in 2025, second-most among 1,000-yard rushers.

But the key for UNLV will likely be the play of Jackson Arnold, a solid quarterback who occasionally lacks awareness in the pocket, having been sacked 30 times a year ago.

The Rebels also return a starting center and left tackle, which should help him adjust.

Memphis could be decent this year, but it feels unlikely a team relying on transfers from Southern Mississippi will have the stuff to beat the Rebels.

Ring is rolling out a new default encryption system called TAKE, or “Throw Away the Key Encryption,” that rotates video keys every five minutes and permanently deletes Ring’s copy after 24 hours. The system is designed to preserve cloud features such as smart alerts and AI video search while limiting what Ring can provide under legal process to non-video account information and encrypted footage. The Verge reports: Ring says TAKE uses unique, rotating encryption keys for your footage, stored in a secure enclave and accessible only under strict conditions — based on the features you enable on your account. Currently, footage captured by Ring cameras is encrypted in transit to the cloud and at rest, and then decrypted for Ring to process for those smart features. With TAKE, the encryption keys change for every five minutes of footage. Ring stores copies of those keys to decrypt the footage, but throws away each copy within 24 hours, “leaving you with the keys and full control of your videos,” according to Ring.

TAKE was developed using Messaging Layer Security, an open standard from the Internet Engineering Task Force, according to Ring. The company says it is “inspired by the privacy principles of E2EE (end-to-end encryption),” which Ring offers on some of its cameras. However, the two systems work differently. With E2EE, Ring never has the keys and can’t process your video for cloud-based features. Both options are available on newer cameras that encrypt on-device, and you can switch between the two. Older cameras encrypt at cloud ingress and only support TAKE.

According to a white paper the company published today, Ring’s copy of those keys is managed inside an AWS Nitro Enclave, to which Ring’s access is restricted by “access controls, cryptography, and hardware isolation.” The company claims there is no persistent storage and no way for a Ring employee to access it. The stored keys can only be unlocked by the enclave through cryptographic attestation that proves it’s running the exact software image Ring approved. The enclave releases a temporary key when an enabled service requests it. When asked about what happens if Ring is subpoenaed by law enforcement, a spokesperson for the company said: “Where TAKE is enabled, Ring will only be able to provide non-video information (such as basic subscriber information) and encrypted video files in response to the valid legal process. We have updated our Law Enforcement Guidelines to reflect this change.”
