Millie Bobby Brown stunned in a backless purple maxi dress on Friday as she and husband Jake Bongiovi arrived for dinner at La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi in Italy‘s Lake Como.

The Stranger Things star, 22, married the 24-year-old son of rocker Jon Bon Jovi in May 2024 and the two went on to adopt a little girl last summer.

And the couple looked as loved up as ever as they enjoyed a child-free date night at the swanky restaurant located inside the Grand Hotel Tremezzo.

Millie ensured she dressed to impress in her striking maxi gown which featured a halterneck cut and a sequinned waistband. 

The actress teamed the dress with gold hooped earrings, a gold bangle and a multicoloured handbag, while she swept her brunette tresses into a neat bun.

Jake meanwhile cut a smart figure in a white unbuttoned shirt which he paired with grey trousers and black loafers.

The British actress recently shared rare insight into her life as a new mother during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

She said: ‘My baby girl’s growing, she’s gorgeous.’

Reflecting on how her and Jake’s parents have embraced the new member of the family, she added: ‘They’re all obsessed with her, she doesn’t ever really get put down. 

‘Jake’s dad always says, “She’s just gonna be, you know, carried for the next 18 years.”‘ 

Millie also fiercely defended her husband from dad-shaming trolls. 

Images of the couple went viral earlier this year when Millie was seen laden with a car seat and two backpacks, before later sightings saw her pushing a suitcase and her daughter’s pram at the same time – leading to ire pointed at Bongiovi.

In her interview on the Not Gonna Lie podcast, she said: ‘I’m not gonna lie, when did women become incapable of holding their own bags, car seats and stuff?…

‘This stems from me holding all of my suitcases and bags and my kid and people are like, “Your husband doesn’t hold a single thing.” And I’m like, “Because I’m three miles ahead. I have been planning this all night.”

‘We’re all about empowering girls and, “You got it,” and, “You don’t need a man.” But then when I’m like, “OK, I can carry my own things,” people are like, “Where’s your husband?”‘

Millie added: ‘Nobody knows my husband. My husband is the most polite, sweet, will-do-anything-for-me. But he also knows I’m capable.’

Elsewhere in the podcast chat, she revealed she’d always dreamed of adopting children and added that even as a young child she imagined her dolls were adopted rather than pretending to be pregnant or having biological children.

She went on to say that she intends to carry a biological child someday, adding, ‘It’s not because I don’t want that. Hopefully one day that’s in my future.’

Caister-on-Sea near Great Yarmouth is a worthwhile spot thanks to its miles of golden sand and welcoming village. Whilst it has all of the typical amenities you would expect from a seaside village, there is a unique attraction which sets it above the rest. Instead of heading home after you’ve built your sandcastles, you might want to head over to Caister Castle. Although the building is mostly in ruins today, a 90-foot tower still stands, and visitors can climb to the top and get a bird’s eye view of the historical site.

This 15th century castle was pioneering in its day as one of the earliest important buildings to use brick as the main construction material. After you have discovered the intriguing history of the castle, you will be met with a surprising museum collection. You might expect to see old furniture or trinkets from the days when the castle was inhabited by Sir John Falstof, a soldier in the Hundred Years’ War.

However, the museum is actually filled with a private collection of motor vehicles. Some of the standout pieces include the first Ford Fiesta to ever come off the production line and the Lotus driven by racing driver James Lotus, who held the records for most wins, pole positions, and fastest laps at the time of his death in 1968.

Those with a preference for four legs in sports, over four wheels, will be pleased to know Great Yarmouth Racecourse is just outside Caister-on-Sea. During racing season between April and October, visitors can cheer on their chosen horses and become one of the 12,000 people who attend the three-day Eastern Festival.

The racecourse also holds family-friendly events, such as the safari family fun race day on August 30.

You many choose to have a picnic on the beach during your trip to the village, but if you plan on buying food, you will be met with classic seaside village options. The streets are lined with multiple fish and chip shops. A small, family-run pub called Never Turn Back on Manor Road offers Sunday carveries as well as full English breakfasts.

You could also try one of the roasts at Castle Carvery on Norwich Road, which boasts a large indoor playground for energetic children.

Road closures and traffic advice for EMERGE

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Motorists should be aware that traffic will be disrupted in south Belfast this weekend, Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August, due to the Emerge Music Festival. “City-bound lane one of Boucher Road, between its junction with Shane Retail Park and Balmoral Road, will be closed between 3pm and 9pm. “Boucher Road will be closed between its junctions with Tates Avenue and Stockman’s Lane between 9pm and midnight. “Stockman’s Lane will be closed between its junction with Kennedy Way roundabout and Lisburn Road between 9pm and midnight. “The M1 off-slips – northbound at Kennedy Way and southbound at Stockmans Lane – will be closed from 9pm. “Please seek an alternative route at these times.” Officers would also like to remind those attending the festival that it is illegal to stop, park or walk on the hard shoulder of motorways. The hard shoulder is for emergency use only. They continued: “We want all those attending the festival to have a great night and to remember the event for all the right reasons – stay safe, leave sufficient time for your journey, and plan your route in advance.”

It seems as though the incident attracted a crowd of spectators, with one exclaiming in the video: “No way”.

In a comment to the Bolton News, one witness described the man to be “dancing away”.

He added: “I don’t think he wants to come down”.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.

Swan Lane Mills is a Grade-II listed building and an important part of the borough’s industrial heritage.

Located between Great Lever and Daubhill, the building was designed by renowned mill architects Stott and Sons of Oldham and was once recognised as the largest cotton spinning mill in the world.

You can only see earthworks of the former castle today

There was once a time when several castles stood across Cambridgeshire. Unfortunately, over time they have been reduced to mounds or scarce remains, but their historic tales live on. In the small hamlet of Rampton, there was once hope of a castle being built, but it was never completed.

Known as Giant’s Hill, it’s believed construction began during a civil war known as the Anarchy, which lasted between 1138 and 1153. The conflict started after the accidental death of William Adelin, who was the only legitimate son of Henry I.

Following Henry’s death in 1135, his nephew Stephen of Blois seized the throne with the help of his brother Henry of Blois. A civil war began between Stephen of Blois and his cousin Empress Matilda, Henry I’s daughter, who was supposed to take the throne.

During this civil war, a number of castles, were built across the east of England in order to contain Geoffrey de Mandeville, a rebel earl and famous figure of the civil war. De Mandeville was shot dead with a crossbow at nearby Burwell Castle, which was also being built at the time. Just like Giant’s Hill, Burwell Castle was never completed.

Today, you can see the earthworks of the former castle. People can see a low and flat-topped rectangular earthwork and spoil banks of the unfinished 12th century motte castle. There is also a water-filled moat, entrance ramp and interactive board that show visitors what it would have once looked like.

Rampton today is described as a “thriving community” by Rampton Parish Council. There are round 400 people that live in the small hamlet which is around six miles from Cambridge. Over the year, the community comes together for many events including its summer fayre and a horse show.

Rampton is home to The Black Horse Pub, which Camra says is a “cosy” pub with a “large beer garden”. It has been serving locals since 1851.

From knitting to catching up on work, commuters are finding new ways to make journeys count

Scottish commuters could gain almost four extra days of ‘me time’ every year by swapping the car for the train, new research suggests.

A study of 1,000 Scottish commuters found rail passengers are using their journeys to get ahead at work, tackle life admin, relax and even learn new skills.

By contrast, drivers are spending around 91 hours a year stuck in traffic, held up by roadworks, refuelling and searching for parking spaces. That’s nearly four days which could otherwise be spent doing something more productive or enjoyable.

Almost two thirds of rail users (63%) said their journey gives them valuable time to prepare for the day ahead or unwind before getting home.

Reading proved particularly popular, with 35 per cent of passengers saying they use their commute to pick up a book. Around 30 per cent use the time to tackle life admin, while 28 per cent get ahead with work.

Others said they catch up on TV (23%), while five per cent even use their train journey to knit. Around 14 per cent of ScotRail passengers are also using their commute to learn a new skill or study.

To showcase some of the more unusual ways passengers can use their journey, ScotRail has teamed up with three regular commuters to demonstrate how train travel can provide time for hobbies and everyday tasks.

Among them is Barras Market-based maker Jeano Beano, who has created a crochet video showing passengers how they can use their commute to make fun creations, including a cuddly frog.

Jean said: “There’s no better time to try something new than during your commute. Crocheting is a wonderful way to relax, clear your mind and switch off from the stresses of everyday life and travelling on a ScotRail train gives you the perfect opportunity to get creative.”

She added: “Crochet is easy to pick up, and passengers can quickly learn the basics while making the most of their journey.

“I’m looking forward to showing people how simple and enjoyable it can be and hopefully inspiring them to discover a new hobby they can enjoy on their own commute.”

Nutritionist and high-protein recipe creator Scott Baptie is using his commute to plan his weekly meals, while influencer and single mum Rona, known online as Making Our Cute Life, uses her train journeys to create budget planners.

The research found a very different picture for those behind the wheel. Drivers reported spending an average of 10 minutes sitting in traffic during each commute, alongside nine minutes delayed by roadworks and another five minutes stopping to refuel.

Over the course of a year, that adds up to around 91 hours spent navigating delays and dealing with the demands of driving.

When asked what matters most when choosing how to travel, Scots ranked convenience highest at 51 per cent, followed by cost at 43 per cent, and reliability at 43 per cent.

Around 30 per cent said their ideal commute would allow them to complete life admin, while 42 per cent of rail passengers said they valued having the opportunity to relax before the demands of the day began.

ScotRail Commercial Director Claire Dickie said: “Our research shows commuting has become so much more than getting from A to B.

“People want their journey to be time they can genuinely use, whether that’s catching up on work, organising their day, completing life admin, learning something new, or simply taking a moment to switch off.”

She added: “When you’re driving, your focus has to be on the road. Travelling by train gives customers the freedom to make that time their own, turning what might otherwise be lost time into something genuinely useful or enjoyable – resulting in a Journey Well Spent.”

A man and a woman have been arrested and remain in police custody for questioning on suspicion of child neglect after an incident at a Toby Carvery in Chadderton, Greater Manchester

Two individuals have been taken into custody following an incident involving police outside a Toby Carvery restaurant in Chadderton on Friday evening.

Emergency services rushed to the scene amid reports that a man had been tasered by officers (Friday, August 28). It is understood that the man had allegedly been fleeing from police before being tasered in the car park.

The restaurant, situated on Chadderton Park, Oldham, was temporarily shut after witnesses reported seeing several police vehicles and an ambulance parked outside.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has since confirmed that both a man and a woman have been arrested and are currently being held in custody for questioning.

GMP revealed that officers spotted a vehicle being driven erratically and carried out a vehicle stop at 7.45pm on Friday evening, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Upon approaching and speaking to the driver, GMP stated that he turned “aggressive”, prompting officers to deploy their taser.

Following a search of the vehicle, the driver was arrested on suspicion of assaulting two officers, possession with intent to supply class B, and child neglect.

A female passenger was also arrested on suspicion of child neglect, with both individuals remaining in police custody pending questioning.

“At 7.45pm on Friday 28 August, officers conducted a vehicle stop after observing vehicle driving in an erratic manner,” a GMP statement reads. The statement continued: “Officers spoke to the driver, who then became aggressive and a taser was deployed.

“Following a search of the vehicle, a man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting two officers, possession with intent to supply class B, and child neglect.

“A woman, a passenger, was also arrested on suspicion of child neglect. They remain in custody for questioning.”
