Forever Home, based on Graham Norton’s bestselling novel, will be screened at Tyneside Cinema on Friday, September 4, ahead of its television debut.

The six-part drama was filmed mainly in Northumberland earlier this year, with County Durham town Consett also used as a location.

Film crews were spotted in the town in January as production got under way.

It is not yet known which cast or crew members will attend the Newcastle screening, but the line-up includes Geordie actor Denise Welch, former Emmerdale star and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Lewis Cope, Shetland actor Douglas Henshall, Amy Nuttall and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet favourite Kevin Whately.

What is Forever Home about?

The drama follows Carol Crottie, played by Amy Nuttall, whose relationship with older partner Robert Barrie becomes increasingly difficult as his dementia worsens.

Robert is played by Douglas Henshall, while Welch takes the role of Carol’s mother, Moira Crottie.

Lewis Cope plays Robert’s son Kaden and Heartstopper actor Jenny Walser portrays his daughter Sally.

Kevin Whately appears as Silent Dave.

The story centres on Carol’s growing suspicion that Robert’s reluctance to leave his home may be connected to the disappearance of his first wife, who vanished 20 years earlier with Robert’s brother, leaving behind young children Kaden and Sally.

As the mystery unravels, Carol discovers a body concealed in the basement, turning what begins as a later-life relationship drama into a dark family thriller.

Consett’s role in new drama

The Channel 5 series gives Consett another screen connection, with scenes filmed in the town as part of a wider North East production.

When the drama was announced, Norton said the original novel had started with the idea of the complications involved in packing up a home later in life.

He said: “The novel soon evolved into a funny, twisted, ‘dark-romp’ full of farcical scenes and it’s wonderful to see the depth and richness of Carol’s story realised as a screenplay.”

The production was supported by the North East Production Fund and North East Screen.

Filming also took place in locations including Stocksfield and Hexham.

It was a special trip to Scotland that revealed a potential rift between Sir David Beckham and his eldest son Brooklyn – who was noticeably absent.

However, despite the fallout that had been brewing in the background, the football star has raved about the time he had north of the border as he praised the Scottish wilderness instructor who made his getaway memorable.

Former Manchester United star Sir David has given a glowing endorsement to outdoorsman and wilderness instructor Zeki Basan as the Scot prepares to lead a wild skills workshop in Sutherland.

Mr Basan, who was raised in the Cairngorms, came into contact with Sir David when the star and his sons Romeo and Cruz booked a remote camping and fishing trip for his 50th birthday in May of last year to the uninhabited Hebridean island of Scarba.

While the former England captain was joined by his sons Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 21, his eldest was nowhere to be seen.

Mr Basan, 26, instructed the Beckham family in off-grid survival, foraging, traditional fire-making and open-air cooking.

Discussing the experience, Mr Basan said: ‘I was with the family for three days and David and his sons were very down to earth and engaged with the outdoors.

‘They have an interest in the environment. They learned about the fauna and flora, fishing techniques, fire making and foraging.

‘We did talk about football, and it was fascinating to hear some of their stories. But we were more focused on the environment. They were great company.’

Now, in a glowing review online, Sir David has praised Mr Basan, writing: ‘We had an incredible experience with Zeki, learning new skills and understanding the landscape and habitats that he is so passionate about.

‘His knowledge and care for the environment and commitment to protecting traditional crafts is infectious. We are lucky to have people like Zeki to teach these valuable skills to a new generation.’

Sir David’s trip to Scotland came amid rumours of an ongoing feud with Brooklyn, who also did not attend his father’s 50th birthday celebrations.

The star had shared a series of photographs and videos on social media in May of last year, documenting the trip to Scotland.

He and his sons had caught their dinner during the fishing expedition. They then prepared scallops and lobster before tucking in around the table inside a spartan bothy they had chosen to stay in.

In one post, Sir David said he had banned his sons from using their mobiles.

He wrote: ‘Last time boys were allowed to use their phones. Not so happy about it.’

In another post, featuring a picture of himself with Romeo and Cruz, Sir David tagged Brooklyn and said: ‘You were missed Brooklyn.’

The extent of the fallout in the family finally became clear in January of this year when Brooklyn posted a stinging statement hitting out at his family.

In it, he said: ‘I do not want to reconcile with my family.’

Mr Basan has worked across the globe, from the Arctic fjords of Greenland to the forests of Iceland.

Fellow former footballer Ian Wright, who also went on an outdoor course with his has also praised his skills, writing: ‘Zeki is one of those rare people who seems born from another world, not in a strange way, but in the best possible sense. His understanding of the outdoors goes beyond skill; it’s instinctive, almost otherworldly.’

Mr Basan will lead a wild craft skills event at Ferry Croft, Lairg, on September 5 from 11am to 4pm.

During it, he will share stories from his life in remote landscapes and demonstrate the ancient technique of turning fish skins into leather.

The event celebrates rural heritage, hands-on learning and the passing on of skills that once shaped everyday life in the Highlands and beyond.

Energy bills are set to increase by £60 a year from October as Ofgem increases the energy price cap by 4 per cent. That works out as an extra £5 a month for the typical household.

The energy price cap will be increasing to £1,723 a year for the typical household for people who aren’t on a fixed tariff and pay by Direct Debit in England, Scotland and Wales. It’s up from the £1,663 cap currently in place, an increase of 4 per cent, that’s the typical household, however.

The price cap sets the maximum you can be charged for unit rates and standing charges – so your bill can be higher or lower than the price cap figure. An estimated 35 per cent of all households – around 11 million in total – are on fixed tariffs and will not be affected by this rise.

It’s also believed that the removal of VAT on electricity bills will also save households £45 a year. The VAT of 5 per cent will no longer apply to electricity bills under action undertaken by Andy Burnham when he became Prime Minister.

Ofgem has attributed the rise in price cap to the ongoing situation in the Middle East. The conflict there is impacting the wholesale price of gas.

This means that households who use less gas than others will be less impacted by the changes. In fact, households that don’t use gas at all are estimated to see an increase of less than 1 per cent in their bills.

Neil Kenward, Ofgem’s Director General for Markets, said: “High international gas prices are continuing to drive energy costs in the UK. We welcome the Government’s intervention to remove VAT from electricity bills, without which customers would have faced even higher costs this winter.

“Savings are available by choosing a fixed tariff, which are available at £100 or more below the October price cap, and many suppliers offer tariffs with cheaper electricity to smart meter customers for electricity consumed out of peak times. It’s also worth considering different payment methods, with prepayment customers paying the lowest price cap rates, and could save consumers an average of about £45 compared to direct debit.”

Cliona Hagan has spoken about her feelings towards Dolly Parton’s passing. The world-famous country star’s death was announced on Tuesday, August 2, by her nephew Bryan Seaver.

Cliona has been in the country music industry for 10 years now, where she has toured all over Ireland and abroad, which she reveals may not have even happened if it weren’t for Dolly Parton.

Speaking to the RTÉ Nine O’Clock News this week, the Co Tyrone singer reflected: “I’m honestly still in shock. I can’t believe that Dolly is gone. She was everything and more to me, and I know to so many people all over the world, and if it had not been for Dolly, I don’t think I would have even properly gone into music.

“I can’t believe she’s gone but I will continue to, to keep celebrating her music with our Dolly Songbook Show that we’ve been doing these past three years and we’ll finish it off this March the 7th in the INEC for one heck of a show to celebrate the woman that she was.”

She continued when asked her favourite Dolly song : “My favourite song of Dolly Parton’s would have to be “Coat of Many Colours”, I think it’s to do with the message, you know, you don’t have to have a lot of things in life to be happy. The simplest of things can make you happy. And the way that she wrote that song, because I remember trying to learn it as well, it sounds very simplistic, but it’s actually very difficult.

“She was such an intelligent songwriter, and as well, what a singer too. She could sing songs with such ease because it was such a natural gift to her, but ehm, she was just an extremely extraordinary, talented, special woman, and she will be severely missed, most definitely.”

The intimate group of mourners included Parton’s nephew and head of security Bryan Seaver, who announced her death at the age of 80 on Tuesday.

Seaver disclosed Parton would be laid to rest in high heels in the same mausoleum that houses the remains of her husband of over half a century, Carl Dean. 

Family insiders indicated a private service for close friends and relations would be held in Nashville at some point in the ensuing days.

It was unclear whether Parton was interred at the Friday event, where guests were spotted arriving in colored outfits rather than traditional funereal black.

An insider said Seaver seemed ‘in charge’ of the proceedings, during which he was seen greeting other arrivals and working with local police, via Page Six.

Dean died aged 82 of causes that have remained private in March 2025, two months before what would have been his and Parton’s 59th wedding anniversary.

Parton, often referred to as the Queen of Country, enjoyed an illustrious music career spanning six decades and was arguably best known for her hits Jolene and 9 to 5. 

The fourth of 12 children, six of whom are now still living, Parton was born in Pittman Center, Tennessee, on January 19, 1946. 

Her passing came after months of health woes that saw her pull out of a string of public appearances, fueling fan fears for her wellbeing. 

In an interview published just four days before her death, Parton had declared she still had ‘so many things I want to achieve’ and vowed to continue ‘working as long as I can to see everything come to life,’ via People.

She explained that she had been grappling with ‘some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl.’

Parton once told NPR that her 1973 classic Jolene was partly inspired by a local bank teller who developed a flirtatious equation with Dean.

‘She got this terrible crush on my husband,’ she said at the time. ‘And he just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. 

‘It was kinda like a running joke between us — when I was saying: “Hell, you’re spending a lot of time at the bank. I don’t believe we’ve got that kind of money.”‘

Years later, onstage at Glastonbury, she said of the song: ‘I wrote that years ago when my husband… was spending a little more time with Jolene than I thought he should be. I put a stop to that. I got rid of that redhead woman in a hurry.’

Parton and Dean first met at a Nashville laundromat in 1964, when she was 18 and he was 21, and they exchanged vows in May 1966.

‘I’d never been in a laundromat before,’ she recalled in the 2023 documentary Dolly Parton: In Her Own Words. ‘I walked outside there was this good-looking man that drove by the Wishy Washy Laundromat. And he pulled over to the side. So, we started talking and we married two years later.’

Through her decades of high-octane superstardom, Dean remained a constant and supportive figure for Parton behind the scenes.

Parton offered her public a rare glimpse inside her marriage in 2024, revealing the reason her husband refused to attend events with her.

Parton married her husband Carl Thomas Dean in 1966 in Ringgold, Georgia 

She remarked that her husband was ‘not the least bit interested in being in’ her songs despite loving her work, on Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast.

A telling moment occurred early in their marriage when she persuaded Dean to attend an awards show in 1967 where she won song of the year.

The outing made such an impression on her ‘homebody’ husband that he promptly informed Parton: ‘I wish you the best, but don’t ever ask me to go to another one of these damn things because I ain’t going.’ 

The couple, who renewed their vows in 2016 at their Nashville home, used humor to dissipate any potential for conflict in their decades-long relationship.

Parton raved that her husband was ‘hilarious,’ elaborating: ‘He’s quiet and I’m loud, and we’re funny…we have a lot of fun. Anytime [there is] too much tension going on, either one of us can like, find a joke about it to really break the tension, where we don’t let it go so far. We never fought back and forth.’

When he died last year, she penned a heartfelt encomium to their ‘many wonderful years together,’ adding: ‘Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy.’

A reason for his suspension has not been given

A Reform UK councillor on Peterborough City Council has been suspended from the party. Councillor Peter Reeve was elected to represent the Peterborough ward of Stanground South at the local elections on May 7 under the Reform UK banner.

He had previously been a councillor on Cambridgeshire County Council, Huntingdonshire District Council, and Ramsey Town Council.

Leader of the Peterborough Reform UK group, Cllr Andrew O’Neil, confirmed on August 28 that Cllr Reeve had been suspended from Reform UK by the party’s general secretary – but did not give a reason.

Cllr Reeve is also in the process of being removed from his party’s group on the city council. Cllr O’Neil did not wish to comment any further.

It comes after Cllr Reeve appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court for a first hearing on Friday, August 14 charged with driving a motor vehicle when above the legal alcohol limit. The hearing was adjourned until September 22 and Cllr Reeve was granted bail until the next hearing.

He has not entered a plea to the charge.

The annual event brought livestock competitions, horses and ponies, horticulture, handicrafts, trade stands and local produce to the showground, overlooking.

Families also enjoyed main-ring entertainment, including terrier racing, live music and Jurassic Earth’s life-sized dinosaur performances.

This year’s show featured its largest-ever vintage tractor section, while the expanded food from farming tent and craft marquee showcased regional businesses.

Crowds weren’t put off by the rain, holding coats over their heads to avoid the showers.

With stalls on almost every corner of the town centre, visitors were able to try cuisines from all over the world, as well as enjoy live music and other events.

There were visitors of all ages, with special activities for children and a number of stalls also selling treats for four-legged festival-goers.

The main events of the day were demonstrations from some of the UK’s top chefs, including festival favourite James Martin, who had three appearances throughout the afternoon.

This year marks Martin’s 16th Bolton Food and Drink Festival.

Speaking to the Bolton News this afternoon, he described it as “the biggest and the best” of its kind.

He added: “You’ve only got to have been here on the opening day at 12 o’clock, when you would have seen there were thousands of people in there.

“It’s unbelievable.”

Lucky ticket-holders also got the chance to watch a sold-out lunchtime event with chefs Marco Pierre White and Michael Caines.

Elsewhere in the festival, visitors also got to see a cracking line-up across two separate stages, featuring everything from local acoustic acts to 70s chart-toppers the Real Thing, who will be taking to the stage this evening.

A Liverpool fan has been savaged on social media after snatching Alexander Isak’s shirt from a child following the Anfield club’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Goalscorer Isak was making his way towards the tunnel when he spotted a young fan in the stands. The Swede removed his shirt before offering it to the supporter.

However, as he made the move to hand over the jersey, an older fan swiped the shirt from the youngster’s grasp, taking Isak aback.

The thieving fan was then seen grinning widely as he made for a hasty exit while the youngster looked distraught, holding out an exasperated hand.

However, onlookers lambasted the individual for the shameless act, and he was later seen giving the shirt to its intended recipient.

Footage of the incident has gone viral online, with rival fans offering a scathing verdict.

‘Don’t these morons realize there are cameras everywhere these days?’ one user said on X. 

‘Grown man steaming a sweaty kit off a child… should be banned from entering Anfield again,’ said another.

‘Glad the kid got it back, infuriating that grown men act like this.’ 

Others credited the bystanders for intervening.

‘Credit to the guys who called him out causing him to give it to the boy,’ one fan said.

‘Fair play to Isak for seeing that and making sure the scruff gave it back. How embarrassing…’ 

It is not the first time an adult spectator has sought to steal prized memorabilia from a child at a sporting event. In April, Max Quinn, a baseball fan, was branded ‘pathetic’ after stealing a ball from an 11-year-old girl.

Quinn attempted to catch a ball headed for the stands but botched his attempt, leading the ball to squirm out of his hands and bounce towards a young girl, Evelyn. 

She raced down the steps to try and grab it and take home a memorable souvenir, only for Quinn to fumble around on the floor alongside her and grab it before she had the chance.

Quinn then lifted it into the air in an embarrassing celebration before returning to his seat, leaving the girl devastated.

A clip of the incident quickly went viral and caused fury on social media, with baseball fans labelling the man ‘pathetic’. He later publicly apologised for his behaviour.

Elsewhere, an elderly ice hockey fan was ejected from an NHL game after stealing a puck from a child.

In January 2025, the man was threatened by the child’s mother  – who pulled her arm back, gesturing to punch him – following the heartless act. 

Later, an ice hockey player’s girlfriend delivered a separate puck to the youngster. 

It was a frustrating afternoon for Liverpool fans, as Iraola’s side twice went behind to Oliver Glasner’s visitors – who were good value for their point at Anfield. 

Iraola was left aggrieved by a fourth-official fumble that cost his team a goal as they could only manage another draw in what has been a lacklustre start to the season. 

New signing Victor Munoz equalised after Forest had twice led through Dan Ndoye and a Morgan Gibbs-White penalty, with Isak also opening his account for the campaign.

But Iraola thought the second Forest goal was unfair given he was unable to make a substitution for three minutes due to the fourth official’s electric board not working and, when the changes should have occurred, the away team took a quick throw-in that led to the penalty being awarded.

‘I will analyse the penalty, but this cannot be a professional fourth official,’ he said.

‘It cannot take… I don’t know, three minutes (for him to ready the board). We’ve already given the subs’ numbers two or three minutes before.

‘I was already angry because in the previous stoppage we couldn’t make (the triple sub), and before the throw-in I said, “OK we’ll do it now”. But I don’t know (what happened).

‘They will have to explain it, but it has taken ages to not prepare two boards.’

Millie and Jake’s cosy dinner date came just days after they enjoyed a meal with Jake’s legendary rocker dad Jon Bon Jovi at Notting Hill hotspot Dorian on Monday.

The Enola Holmes actress appeared in high spirits as she posed for a photo with Jake and Jon, 64. 

Michelin-starred restaurant Dorian has earned a reputation as one of London’s ultimate ‘it’ spots, famously known as a favourite haunt for celebrities like Victoria and David Beckham. 

Millie looked stylish in polka dot capris, a black vest and cream cardigan, while Jake opted for an orange jumper and white shirt. 

The British actress recently shared rare insight into her life as a new mother during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

She said: ‘My baby girl’s growing, she’s gorgeous.’

The Stranger Things star, 22, married the 24-year-old son of rocker Jon Bon Jovi in May 2024 and the two went on to adopt a little girl last summer

Reflecting on how her and Jake’s parents have embraced the new member of the family, she added: ‘They’re all obsessed with her, she doesn’t ever really get put down. 

‘Jake’s dad always says, “She’s just gonna be, you know, carried for the next 18 years.”‘ 

Millie also fiercely defended her husband from dad-shaming trolls. 

Images of the couple went viral earlier this year when Millie was seen laden with a car seat and two backpacks, before later sightings saw her pushing a suitcase and her daughter’s pram at the same time – leading to ire pointed at Bongiovi.

In her interview on the Not Gonna Lie podcast, she said: ‘I’m not gonna lie, when did women become incapable of holding their own bags, car seats and stuff?…

‘This stems from me holding all of my suitcases and bags and my kid and people are like, “Your husband doesn’t hold a single thing.” And I’m like, “Because I’m three miles ahead. I have been planning this all night.”

‘We’re all about empowering girls and, “You got it,” and, “You don’t need a man.” But then when I’m like, “OK, I can carry my own things,” people are like, “Where’s your husband?”‘

Millie added: ‘Nobody knows my husband. My husband is the most polite, sweet, will-do-anything-for-me. But he also knows I’m capable.’

Elsewhere in the podcast chat, she revealed she’d always dreamed of adopting children and added that even as a young child she imagined her dolls were adopted rather than pretending to be pregnant or having biological children.

She went on to say that she intends to carry a biological child someday, adding, ‘It’s not because I don’t want that. Hopefully one day that’s in my future.’
