Sing Your Song eyes 2026 Flight Stakes after Warwick Farm success

Published

on

The prestigious Group 1 Flight Stakes is firmly on the agenda for the promising filly Sing Your Song, trained by Chris Waller, after she delivered a classy performance to win a race that has frequently been a springboard for spring carnival success.

Waller, who typically avoids starting his horses from outside gates, revealed that his decision to have the three-year-old race from the widest draw in Wednesday’s Asahi Super Dry Handicap (1400m) at Warwick Farm was a reflection of the stable’s confidence in her considerable talent.

“It did, and also the way we rode her,” Waller stated. “She was a little bit slow out the other day, and we didn’t want to paint her as a horse who has to get back. I said to James (McDonald) I’d leave it to him to see how she jumped and teach her something today.”

James McDonald adopted a forward position on Sing Your Song ($2.60 favourite), settling her just outside the leader and driving her to the front in the final stages. She showed great determination to hold off Waiheke Rose ($2.90) by a neck, with her stablemate Wonka ($12) finishing a further neck behind in third.

As a full sister to the Group 2 winner Matias, Sing Your Song is currently priced at $11 for the Flight Stakes (1600m) scheduled for October 3rd, and Waller confirmed this is the race he is keen to target.

“I was hoping she could be a Flight Stakes filly,” he commented. “Obviously there is still a long way to go. We’ve got a little bit of time now to back off and regroup and time our run. I think she’ll be a better horse chasing eventually, but today will just wake her up a little bit.”

In an interesting note, the winner of Wednesday’s race has an esteemed history, with previous victors including the 2025 Spring Champion Stakes winner Attica and 2024 winner El Castello, alongside multiple Group 1 champion Ceolwulf in 2023.

This impressive lineage of past winners is unsurprising to Waller, who noted that three-year-old races held midweek just before the major carnival events often prove to be ideal stepping stones to loftier goals.

“This time of the year there are just some good horses racing,” Waller said. “The horses racing now that have had one or two runs, they’ve been looked after at two and they’re just starting to emerge at the right time. Anything that can win midweek at the moment is worth following.”

Sing Your Song’s triumph secured a double for Waller, following Godolphin filly Sequinned ($4) winning the opening race. Explore the top online bookmakers for the upcoming racing season at online bookmakers.

MANILA, Philippines–Alex Eala returns to Louis Armstrong Stadium for her second round match in the US Open in New York against Oleksandra Oliynykova of Ukraine.

The Filipino tennis star opened her US Open bid with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mary Stoiana on Wednesday, also at the second-largest venue in Flushing Meadows.

When she made her main draw debut last year, Eala played her matches at Court 7 and the Grandstand.

“It was my first time playing on one of the main stadiums here in US Open, and it was very loud. And especially when the roof is covered, so that’s something that adds to the atmosphere, but it’s also something you have to navigate,” Eala said after her first-round win.

Eala looks to avenge her loss to Oliynykova, who beat her in May during the clay-court season at the Strasbourg Open in France.

She also aims to surpass her second-round finish at last year’s US Open.

Enyimba Goalkeeper Debunks Statement Credited to Him on Club Page

Published

on

Enyimba goalkeeper Dede Dare has denied making a statement about players who left the club at the end of the 2025/2026 season.

The controversy comes after a difficult season for Enyimba, which ended with several players leaving the club. Some of the departed players took to social media to complain about their treatment during their time at the club.

Dare was among the players who stayed at Enyimba and has now found himself at the centre of a fresh controversy after a statement was credited to him on the club’s official social media page.

The post, made on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, quoted Dare as saying:

“I’ve said it before, if you have to force them to carry the bricks, they’re not the ones to build with. Simple as that. We move on with the ones who want to be here.”

However, the goalkeeper quickly responded in the comments section, denying that he made the statement and asking for the post to be removed.

“Please to clear the air, I never said this and I don’t know where this is coming from…… please I would appreciate if this is been brought down.

“I’m not a social media person and there was never a time I granted such interview for this to be posted online.

“Thank you,” Dare wrote.

The development comes just days after Enyimba suffered defeat in their opening game of the 2026/2027 season, adding to the attention around the club following the changes that took place at the end of last season.

Dare’s denial has now raised questions over how the statement was published on the club’s social media page and attributed to him.

Man City make Enzo Maresca plan riskier after messy transfer window

Published

on

The season had barely finished when the call came at boardroom level to make public that Manchester City were not interested in signing Enzo Fernandez this summer. It feels fitting for a chaotic transfer window then that the Blues did exactly what they said they wouldn’t do.

On the surface, City are many people’s early winners of the transfer window and – the silliness of snap verdicts aside – it is easy to see why. They have spent more than £315m on central midfield players alone in a rebuild of a rebuild that has seen anyone not up for the fight under Enzo Maresca shipped out and sold on for profit while stellar additions have been made to a squad that won two trophies last year.

At the Etihad, there is confidence that the recruitment is good enough to expect Maresca to fight across all four competitions. With depth cited in every position despite wholesale changes in the squad, there is even an internal belief that City are in better shape for this season than they were last year.

Even if they are though, there are alarm bells as to how City ended up where they were in those frantic final weeks of the window that could spell trouble further down the line. It is hard to see how the club’s reputation for shrewd and efficient transfer business can have improved after such a messy summer.

Take the Fernandez deal: there were smirks over Chelsea’s self-imposed deadline before the season started, yet how good is calling a bluff if you end up paying more than you would have done and waiting longer? How good is bluffing yourself to knock another £10m off on the final day if it still ends up being more than the original price?

A summer that started with Maresca’s divorce from Chelsea being tougher than City expected ended up with signing a player they had said they wouldn’t for more than they could have done and later than they could have done. It was so late in fact, that there was a very real chance that it didn’t happen – especially given Chelsea could have pulled the plug as Monaco had done on Chelsea’s move for a replacement.

Fernandez followed a similar pattern to Ayyoub Bouaddi. Having been aware that Lille wanted to keep the Moroccan teenager for another year and would only countenance selling him this summer for around £85m, City waited for more than a month until after the season had started before deciding to pay what Lille wanted; all that time spent negotiating hadn’t earned any money off.

Bouaddi was one of multiple players that had been seen as a potential arrival during the summer tour in late July and early August, and the sporting director Hugo Viana’s presence in Asia – not a conducive time zone for talks with contacts in the UK and Europe – was assumed to be an indicator of that confidence. As a week went by with no progress though, that turned into a confusion that only increased after that.

It was while City were away that Barcelona’s interest in Rodri accelerated and, with fans increasingly concerned at the state of the squad, sources spoke bullishly about the Blues going above and beyond with replacements to make sure the new manager was backed. However true or not the claims were when they were made, City did not get close to making it a reality.

In the end, the club didn’t even match the one in for every out that Maresca made clear was expected in the summer to leave the new manager with just 20 senior outfield players. That is the lower limit for what the new manager wants and one fewer than Pep Guardiola had last season – before Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo arrived in January.

The squad is so small is in no small part because of the departures of several players who feature on an Amazon documentary that came out last August being talked up as the future of the club by the hierarchy. Nico Gonzalez, Savinho, Omar Marmoush and Tijjani Reijnders were all supposed to be part of the rebuild of the Treble squad yet have been discarded – for profit, yes, but still discarded.

That has created even more churn in a summer where they have waved goodbye to the best manager in the world after a decade of stability. Maresca was presented as the continuity candidate, yet has found the deck in front of him swept; just three players remain from the last time he was here three years ago.

City still believe they have backed Maresca – and multiple transfer records broken would point to that – and everything may become clear at the Etihad in the coming weeks as things click. It has been a bumpy summer though and it would not be a surprise if there was more friction before things settle just on account of there being so much change.

Beyond that, what is to stop clubs holding City to ransom in negotiations in the next transfer windows, or holding out until the end for a higher price? What is to stop agents of targets seeing what City have paid in wages in 2026 and demanding at least parity if they are to sanction a move?

City are still banking on a Blue future, but there have been some red flags this summer that make that riskier than it could have been.

Get Jarren Duran a tennis racket

Published

on

Since making his MLB debut in 2021, Jarren Duran has established himself as a regular in the outfield for the Boston Red Sox. He is currently playing on a one-year, $7.75 million contract.

While he has been solid over the past month, batting .242 with 23 hits, 6 homers and 12 RBIs in August, he has had a down year at the plate overall, batting .207 with a .631 OPS.

As the Red Sox faced off against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, Duran came up to bat in a big spot with two runners on and only one out in the bottom of the fourth. He was unable to get anything going, however, and was ultimately retired after flying out to shortstop J.P. Crawford.

In the immediate aftermath of the unsuccessful at-bat, Duran’s frustration was clear to see, as he let out an expletive-laden roar. Insider Tyler Milliken posted a video of the incident to X.

Reacting, several fans left comments taking shots at Duran.

“Get him a f****** tennis racket,” a fan wrote.

“He’s done this enough times I’m sure someone could make a compilation,” another fan commented.

“Wish these professionals would act professional,” another fan replied.

“I can’t wait until he’s no longer on the roster,” another fan responded.

“This guy needs to get himself under control. He is clearly not well,” another fan shared.

“Doesnt he always do this?” another fan posted.

“We’re going through a rough patch there” – Red Sox interim manager speaks after Mariners win series at Fenway Park

While they are in a relatively comfortable position to make it to the postseason, the Red Sox seem to be struggling for consistency at the worst possible time. After beating the Miami Marlins on the road in late August, they have now dropped back-to-back series against the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners.

After the 8-3 loss against the Mariners on Wednesday, Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy spoke to MLB.com’s Ian Browne.

“We’ve definitely struggled. We’ve obviously gone through some stuff as far as getting the rotation online, getting Sonny [Gray] rest, and having to use a spot starter, going through some of these things,” Tracy said. “But certainly the season ebbs and flows.”

“We’re going through a little bit of a rough patch there, but if we string together some good starts, we’ll be in good shape. The flip side of the coin is that we actually are swinging the bats pretty good. We’re getting a lot of traffic, so we’ve got to get that point squared away.”
