Breece Hall injury update: Jets RB ruled out vs. Lions

The New York Jets cut into their deficit against the Detroit Lions, but lost star running back Breece Hall for the game in the process. Hall suffered a thigh injury on a second-and-goal run in the fourth quarter, and the Jets’ medical staff ruled him out following an evaluation in the sideline medical tent.

Hall ran toward the sideline on the short-yardage play and hit the ground hard on a tackle by Lions linebacker Trevor Nowaske. Most of Hall’s weight landed on his right hip area.

The Jets trailed by 14 points at the time of the injury but closed the drive with a touchdown. They eventually tied the game at 24 to erase a two-touchdown deficit and pulled off the comeback without Hall in the lineup.

Hall handled 13 carries for 32 yards and caught three passes for an additional 23 yards before he exited the contest. He entered Week 2 as the Jets’ leader in yards from scrimmage with 131 on the ground and 79 through the air, and he was one of three players to log a rushing touchdown in the early part of the season.

Any time that Hall misses will force the Jets to operate without their most effective offensive weapon. Hall stands among the NFL’s most prolific pass-catchers at the running back position. He ranked in a tie for third on the team in receptions across the season’s first two games.

Braelon Allen leaped into a larger role upon Hall’s exit. New York’s No. 2 running back is familiar with the increased workload, as he shouldered additional weight in 2024 when Hall battled a knee injury. Allen missed the majority of the 2025 season due to a knee injury of his own, though, and is now two years removed from that promising rookie campaign in which he started two games and totaled 334 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

TAMPA, Fla. — Two-time All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson left Minnesota’s game against Tampa Bay in the first quarter on Sunday with an ankle injury.

Jefferson was questionable to return. It wasn’t immediately known how he got hurt but he left the sideline and walked to the locker room midway through the second quarter.

Jefferson had two catches for 32 yards from Kyler Murray, who was returning after sustaining a concussion in Week 1.

The Buccaneers lost wideout Jalen McMillan for the rest of the game because of a knee injury.

Below, we’ll give you all the details you need to know about how to watch this game.

How to Watch Vikings vs. Buccaneers

Players To Watch

Kyler Murray

Minnesota gets its starting quarterback back. Murray has cleared the concussion protocol and reclaims the job from Carson Wentz, who ran the offense over the past two games as the Vikings built a 2-0 record on 48 points, a plus-3 turnover margin and 113 rushing yards per game. Murray still managed 18 rushing yards in his season debut before the injury cut it short, a reminder of the running element he adds that Wentz doesn’t.

Tampa Bay’s defense has allowed 28 points per game and ranks 24th in the league in points allowed, the profile of a unit that has had trouble containing a quarterback who can create outside the pocket.

Justin Jefferson

Minnesota’s passing game looked different in the wind and rain of the 9-3 win over Chicago, where Jefferson caught just 3 of 6 targets for 55 yards. That followed a two-touchdown season opener, and the Vikings still have 3 passing touchdowns through two weeks despite the rough weather in Week 2.

Tampa Bay’s defense has just 3 sacks and 1 interception through two games, a group that hasn’t disrupted opposing quarterbacks with much consistency, and cleaner pockets figure to help Jefferson turn one-on-one looks into bigger plays.

Baker Mayfield

Tampa Bay’s offense will lean heavily on Mayfield’s decision-making against one of the league’s most disruptive defenses. He leads the Buccaneers with 398 passing yards and 1 touchdown through two games, and Tampa Bay has still managed 23 points per game despite the 0-2 start.

Minnesota brings the league’s top sack total at 8, plus 2 interceptions and 25 quarterback hits, and the Vikings are allowing just 12.5 points per game. Tampa Bay has already given up 7 sacks and carries a minus-4 turnover margin, so Mayfield’s ball security and pocket awareness matter against a defense built to take both away.

Bucky Irving

Tampa Bay’s most reliable weapon early has been the ground game, and Irving is the reason. He carried 17 times for 89 yards and added 4 catches in the loss to Cleveland, handling a clear workhorse workload through two weeks.

Tampa Bay ranks 11th in the NFL in rushing yards per game at 113 and just 23rd in passing yards per game at 184.5, so leaning on Irving keeps the offense out of tougher down-and-distance situations against a Minnesota defense that has been stout against the pass.

Patrik Laine among many other free agents who are evaluating their options, claims NHL insider

Published

on

Patrik Laine is among several unrestricted free agents still looking for their next NHL team as the preseason reaches its final days. NHL insider David Pagnotta expects some of those players to have decisions made within the next few days.

Speaking on The Fourth Period Pagnotta said:

“We should get word on which multiple free agents have finally found new homes over the next few days. The likes of Michael Bunting, Patrik Laine, Carson Soucy (PTO in Columbus), Vladimir Tarasenko and Philipp Kurashev are evaluating options”

Laine spent the past two seasons with Montreal after arriving from Columbus and became a UFA when his contract expired after the 2025-26 season. His previous deal was a four-year $34.8 million extension he signed with the Blue Jackets in July 2022.

Bunting also reached free agency after his three-year, $13.5 million contract expired. The deal carried a $4.5 million AAV with the Dallas Stars being his most recent team.

Soucy is in a similar position after his three year $9.75 million contract with Vancouver expired. He is currently attending Columbus’ camp on a PTO after playing under a $3.25 million AAV.

Tarasenko’s two year $9.5 million Detroit contract also expired following the 2025-26 season. He signed the deal in July 2024 at a $4.75 million AAV. Kurashev is another UFA after completing his one-year, $1.2 million contract with San Jose which he signed in July 2025.

Patrik Laine reportedly met with the Anaheim Ducks

Patrik Laine has reportedly spoken with the Anaheim Ducks about a possible contract. Finnish journalist Esko Seppanen reported through Urheilucast that the free agent recently met with Anaheim.

There is no indication that the two sides are close to a deal. Neither the Ducks nor Laine’s representatives have confirmed the reported meeting.

Laine played just five games for the Montreal Canadiens last season before suffering a core muscle injury against the Nashville Predators on Oct. 16, 2025. He had surgery later that month and was expected to miss three to four months.

He returned to practice later in the season but never played again for Montreal. Laine finished with one assist and a minus-3 rating in those five games. The 2025-26 season was his second with the Canadiens and the final year of his contract.
