NFL – Texans v Jaguars – Live on Virgin Media Two

Published

Jaguars

For the third consecutive week, the NFL will play a regular season game in London as the Texans and Jaguars meet at Wembley Stadium.

Jacksonville defeated Philadelphia, 19-17, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London last week while Houston earned their first win of the season with a 26-3 win at Tennessee.

The Jaguars lead the NFL in rushing defence this season and became the second team in the Super Bowl era to not allow an opposing player to rush for 40-or-more yards in their first five games of a season, joining the 1969 Dallas Cowboys.

This week, Jacksonville can tie the 1998-2000 Baltimore Ravens (23 consecutive games) for the third-longest streak of consecutive games without allowing an opposing player to rush for 75-or-more yards in the Super Bowl era.

Houston defensive end Will Anderson leads the NFL with 7.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss this season and is one of three players with at least 7.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss in his team’s first five games of a season since 2000.

The AFC South rivals met twice last season, with the Jaguars winning 17-10 at their home venue of Everbank Stadium, before the Texans avenged that defeat with a 36-29 victory at NRG Stadium.

Last season, both teams reached the play-offs, with the Jaguars losing at home to Buffalo Bills in the wild card round. The Texans lost out to the New England Patriots in the divisional round.

Live coverage today on Virgin Media Two starts at 2.25pm, with the game kicking off at 2.30pm.

FIFA chief Infantino apologises for World Cup row, fails to appease critics | Football News

Published

on

Gianni Infantino gave an apology to the toughest critics who want to oust him as FIFA president but no new details or documents on issues that most concern them at a showdown meeting of the ruling council of soccer’s governing body on Thursday.

Infantino provided no documents about the $4.2 billion World Cup sell-off plan he launched and quickly dropped in July.

Nor did he give details to explain the Folarin Balogun red-card case at the World Cup or how U.S. President Donald Trump intervened to help the national team forward.

FIFA will, however, review whether to continue awarding the peace prize that was created to give to Trump last December.

Infantino was pressed by European soccer officials for written evidence about his secretive private equity plan for the World Cup with investor Joshua Kushner, which provoked a global rift and the biggest crisis of his near 11-year presidency.

He frustrated them further by asking for written questions, FIFA vice president Debbie Hewitt said after the 3 1/2-hour meeting that is the last before a Nov. 18 deadline to field an election candidate to challenge him.

“The man has to answer those questions. If he doesn’t answer those questions, no, he is not fit to be the FIFA president,” said Hewitt, who leads the English Football Association.

Infantino did not meet with media at FIFA headquarters Thursday.

Euro officials seek answers and allies to pressure InfantinoEuropean soccer’s ruling body UEFA is leading attempts to remove Infantino before or at the FIFA presidential election in March and heard little to change that view Thursday.

“No satisfactory answers were provided,” said German soccer leader Bernd Neuendorf, one of eight UEFA delegates in the 37-member FIFA Council that Infantino chairs.

The council is the main decision-making body at FIFA with a global spread of officials – most are presidents of their national federation, like Cindy Parlow Cone of the U.S. – who are elected by their continental soccer bodies for four-year terms.

FIFA pays each an annual stipend of $250,000, with $300,000 for the continental presidents.

Infantino infuriated soccer leaders in Europe, North America and Asia by working for months in secret on the Kushner plan. It deepened a long-standing perception in UEFA that the FIFA boss plans his biggest projects without consulting them.

“We need a person of integrity, someone who can be expected to restore the reputation of the association, which has undoubtedly been lost,” Neuendorf told reporters.

Infantino did start the meeting by apologizing to his Council colleagues for blindsiding them and creating a furor over his private investor plan with Kushner that was revealed in media reports nine days after the World Cup final in July.

“He said that with some contrition,” Hewitt said.

Support for Infantino comes from AfricaFor most of the last 50 years, FIFA voters from Africa – which now counts 54 of the 211 member federations – have been key to gaining and staying in power.

“The key point for us,” said FIFA Council member Ahmed Yahya, the head of Mauritania’s soccer federation, “is that we see Gianni as the right person to continue leading football.” Infantino’s offer to add $15 million in FIFA funding to each of the 211 members over the next four years made progress Thursday.

“I’ve said that President Gianni Infantino is taking football forward worldwide,” Yahya said. “I come from the African continent and know what I’m talking about.

The FIFA presidential election meeting is on March 18 in Rabat, Morocco – a political ally of Infantino, whose soccer leader Fouzi Lekjaa is an influential council member and which will co-host the 2030 World Cup.

Next FIFA Council in Qatar which is supporting InfantinoThe FIFA Council should next meet on Dec. 16 in Doha, Qatar – the 2022 World Cup host that still is loyal to Infantino.

Another ally is Azerbaijan – whose most senior soccer official Elkhan Mammadov is an aide in Infantino’s inner circle – which will host a global boys’ tournament for under-15 teams later this month. That event shapes to be a lobbying opportunity for his campaign.

FIFA also will host an online extra congress on Nov. 23 – five days after the candidate deadline – to confirm hosts for the Women’s World Cup in 2031 and 2035. The only bids are a U.S.-Mexico-Costa Rica-Jamaica plan for 2031 and the four British federations for 2035.

UEFA pursues legal action against FIFA, Infantino and Kushner in the U.S.UEFA also has asked courts in the United States for the right to get evidence for a criminal complaint against Infantino in Switzerland. The court filings allege possible mismanagement of FIFA finances in the value he put on the intended subsidiary running tournament commercial rights.

It was to be at least 20% owned by investors led by Kushner, the brother of Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

FIFA lawyers’ filings in response to stall or stop the evidence requests said they were a “smear campaign” by UEFA.

A Wacky Vikings Rumor is on Life Support (But Somehow Still Possible)

Published

on

Once upon a time, there was a Vikings rumor connecting Minnesota to Justin Herbert. The idea is close to certain to being just that: an idea.

The Los Angeles Chargers are moving through a terrible season as an 0-5 football team. Jim Harbaugh and Mike McDaniel are leading a horrible offense that’s averaging 16.8 points per game, 30th in the NFL. Meanwhile, Kyler Murray has failed to fully lock down the QB1 job. What happens if these trends continue for the remainder of the 2026 season?

A Vikings Rumors Not Dead Yet

Some respected NFL voices have noted the possibility of a Herbert trade, at least in a general sense. Consider ESPN’s Benjamin Solak:

Consider, as well, the quick quip from Sam Monson, who insists that LA possibly moving on from Herbert “becomes really interesting only if/when [the Chargers] finish with a catastrophic record & have a top 5 draft pick in a draft that may be loaded at QB.”

Neither Solak nor Monson are looping the Vikings into the mix. The point here is just to note that respected NFL voices are discussing a possible divorce between the Chargers and Justin Herbert.

On FanSided, Christopher Kline jumps into a possible Vikings and Chargers trade. The offer is for Minnesota to send over Carson Wentz, a 1st, 2nd, and 4th. Los Angeles sends over Herbert and a 5th.

Some of the rationale: “Minnesota currently has the NFL’s top defense and its worst offense. That needs to change if the Vikings want to meaningfully compete when the playoffs roll around.”

— READ MORE: The Promise the Vikings’ GM Made a Couple Weeks Ago —

Truth be told, the proposed offer isn’t anywhere close to being able to demand Herbert. He boasts sensational potential due to his age, size, and abilities. Anything less than multiple 1sts isn’t getting the job done.

The Chargers’ QB is sitting atop a 59.4% completion rate alongside 937 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. These stats alone point toward somebody who is playing terrible football.

Keep in mind, though, that Justin Herbert still offers a lot to like.

Chosen at No. 6 in the 2020 NFL Draft, Mr. Herbert stands at 6’6″ and weighs 236 pounds, meaning he boasts an ideal build to play quarterback. In 2025, the passer completed 66.4% of his passes while putting 3,727 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions onto the stat sheet.

At their beefiest, Herbert’s stats show more than 5,000 passing yards and 38 touchdowns, both of which arrived in 2021. A normal Justin Herbert season sees him completing 66.2% of his passes for close to 4,379 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions (PFR).

If, somehow, Herbert gets put on the trade market, the Vikings must put together a lucrative trade offer to pick him up. The chance of that occurring, though, is close to zero. The Chargers are much more likely to clean house by firing the coaching staff than shipping out a legit franchise passer who is still in his prime.

A Young Vikings Receiver is Putting the Front Office in a Tricky Position

Published

on

Vikings receiver Jeshaun Jones has been noticeable out there. That’s a good development for the player and it may put the front office into a tricky spot. His growth creates an even larger logjam at receiver.

The top options at receiver are Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, both of whom have missed time in 2026 due to injury. None of the options for the WR3 job — Jauan Jennings, Tai Felton, and Myles Price — have completely solidified the job. So, too, is there Odell Beckham Jr. to consider. Could Jones still find a way onto the 53-man roster?

3rd-Year Vikings Receiver is Noticeable Out There

Jeshaun Jones has had to work through some early turbulence in his third season. Due to violating the league’s substance abuse policy, Jones got suspended from Week 1 through to Week 3.

In Week 4, Jones got worked into the mix but as a member of the 53-man roster. Afterwards, Minnesota moved on, cutting him from the roster before re-welcoming him into the team’s orbit, albeit on the practice squad. But then they bumped him up in Week 5, a decision that ended up being wise.

Consider Exhibit A:

And Exhibit B:

Do the tally from those plays and it’s a long catch — 32 yards — alongside a fumble recovery in kickoff coverage. Not too bad for a depth receiver who was scraping and clawing for a roster spot in August. Better yet, Jones has had some good special teams reps more broadly, looking physical and fast out there. He has snagged a tackle and looks like a decent option to work as a gunner.

Jones looks like a sneaky candidate to become a WR5 with some upside. Opting for that approach would likely involve moving on from Tai Felton, somebody who has struggled to distinguish himself in his year and change in Minnesota. Myles Price could then get slid into the WR4 job while continuing to be an absolute monster of a returner.

Jeshaun Jones is 26. The young Vikings receiver will look to continue fending off the competition in search of a large portion of the playing time pie.

South African rugby player Hyron Andrews dies in France ahead of Champions Cup debut

South African rugby player Hyron Andrews of Johannesburg-based side the Lions was found dead at a hotel in France on Friday, on the eve of his team’s Champions Cup match against La Rochelle, local authorities told AFP.

A source close to the investigation said the 31-year-old lock was found in cardiac arrest in a shower cubicle that was locked from the inside.

The public prosecutor in La Rochelle, western France, confirmed that an investigation had been opened to determine the cause of death, which occurred on the island of Ile de Ré, and said that an accidental death was currently the leading line of inquiry.

An autopsy is due to be carried out, the source close to the investigation said.

“This devastating news has sent shockwaves through the international rugby community,” the Lions said in a statement.

“The former Sharks and Sale Sharks lock forward was a valued member of the Lions family, and his loss will be felt profoundly by his teammates, coaches, supporters and all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

Andrews had only returned to his native South Africa earlier this year after a two-year spell with English Prem side Sale Sharks. He began his career with the Sharks franchise in Durban and represented his country at Under-20 level.

“We are heartbroken by the passing of Hyron. He was not only a gifted rugby player, but also a cherished member of our Lions family having recently joined us this season,” added Lions chief executive Rudolf Straeuli.

“On behalf of … everyone at the Lions, I extend our deepest sympathies to (his wife) Maighlin, their young sons Hendrix and Emerson and the entire Andrews family. We stand with them in their sorrow and will remember Hyron with great affection and respect.”

Playing in ‘honour of Hyron’

The Lions said Saturday’s match against La Rochelle would go ahead as planned “in honour of Hyron”.

It is the first time the Lions have played in the Champions Cup, which brings together the best European and South African clubs. A moment’s silence will be held ahead of all Champions Cup and second-tier Challenge Cup matches this weekend in memory of Andrews.

“Hyron was a respected member of the rugby community whose contribution to the game and impact on those around him will be remembered with great fondness,” said Mark Alexander, president of the South African Rugby Union.

“His untimely passing is a devastating loss, and we share in the grief of all who knew and loved him.

“The thoughts and prayers of the entire South African rugby family are with Maighlin and all those mourning his loss.”

The tragedy comes exactly 10 years to the day since the sudden death of former Munster coach Anthony Foley, who died in his sleep aged 42 due to a heart rhythm disorder just hours before his team were due to play against Racing 92 in Paris in the same competition.

La Rochelle coach Ronan O’Gara was a member of the Racing staff when Foley, a former Ireland international team-mate, passed away in October 2016.

Bordeaux-Begles are set to begin their bid for a record-equalling third straight Champions Cup crown later on Friday when they visit Gloucester in the tournament opener.

Ryan Fitzpatrick’s Bo Nix Rant Was the Real Highlight of Broncos-Seahawks

Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos somehow escaped Thursday Night Football with a victory against the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

It was a bizarre, low-scoring overtime affair that certainly didn’t deserve to be watched over the Milwaukee Brewers thrilling sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS.

But after the game on Prime Video, Ryan Fitzpatrick gave the real highlight of Thursday night.

“Bo Nix is not playing competitively. It’s almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he’s playing football right now,” Fitzpatrick said on the postgame show.

Nix was 17-of-27 passing for 107 yards in one of the most painfully boring performances you’ll ever watch. Fitzpatrick eviscerated Nix on the postgame, stating that he doesn’t have the trust of head coach Sean Payton.

It was the closest thing that the NFL has to Stephen A. Smith’s famous Kwame Brown rant after the former No. 1 overall selection was traded away by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Fitzpatrick even winds up his take with a “first of all” before he starts lambasting Nix’s unwillingness to throw the football down the field.

“In overtime, he’s got two chances to be competitive, the last one being a designed run for him to run, make somebody miss and get a first down for your football team!” Fitzpatrick passionately ranted about Nix’s end of game ineptitude.

The Broncos are 4-2 after the win, but it’s been a turbulent ride. Broncos head coach Sean Payton had to reassume playcalling duties from new offensive coordinator Davis Webb. Throughout the first six games of the year, Nix has thrown only six touchdown passes compared to three interceptions and he’s been sacked eight times.

“I could only imagine how Sean Payton feels!” Fitzpatrick exclaimed. “Sean Payton, Davis Webb, everybody that blocks for him, he’s not competing right now and that’s something that he’s hung his hat on for the last two years. I don’t know if he’s still injured or what’s going on, but it’s not good enough! It’s effort.”

This side of Fitzpatrick on the postgame desk is a welcomed addition.

Instead of clowning with drunken fans in the stands chanting for him to take his shirt off, Fitzpatrick refused to sugarcoat another really bad game from Nix.

While some would argue that Fitzpatrick struggled to push the ball down the field at times throughout his career – and that he might not be the right messenger for this – someone with Tom Brady, Drew Brees or even Russell Wilson’s stature couldn’t go scorched Earth on a starting quarterback like this without receiving pushback.

Moses Itauma ready for next fight after coming to terms with Filip Hrgovic loss

Published

on

IndependentMembershipWhite

Moses Itauma needed time to come to terms with the first defeat of his career against Filip Hrgovic but is now ready to reap the benefits of that gripping night in August.

Itauma looked destined to become the second youngest heavyweight champion of all time behind Mike Tyson when he unloaded on Hrgovic at will in the first half of their IBF title showdown at The O2 Arena.

The 21-year-old had emptied the tank too early, however, and slowly exhaustion took over to enable his durable Croatian foe to force a ninth-round stoppage.

Now lined up for a January comeback against an established name, Itauma stands by his decision to aim for “greatness” by attempting to knock Hrgovic out.

“For a long time I couldn’t accept the fact that it happened because I was winning the fight so comfortably,” said Itauma, speaking publicly about the fight for the first time at the launch of Club Eight 3 gym in Chatham.

“I was so far ahead on the scorecards and then all of a sudden your body just starts shutting itself down.

“I’ve always been able to do things that other people couldn’t do. When you talk about knocking out Dillian Whyte in the first round, people couldn’t do that but I did it. Jermaine Franklin’s never looked like he’s ever been in any trouble and I knocked him out.

“So when certain opportunities arose in that Hrgovic fight, I thought this is the moment for me to do something that other people couldn’t do.

“I was at an arm’s length away from so much greatness and that was the experience that I needed to have.”

Promoter Frank Warren wants Itauma fully involved in a busy 2027 for the heavyweight division that will see the likes of Daniel Dubois, the winner of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua and Hrgovic vie for supremacy.

Itauma will makes some adjustments as a result of his first loss in 15 fights but having dominated on the judges’ scorecards, the core of who he is in the ring will remain the same.

“The identity of being a boxer is still deeply rooted in me,” Itauma said. “Just because I lost doesn’t mean that’s going to change. I’ll be back.

“I’m always very honest about what’s happened. There’s not much that’s going to change. It’s the third round I’ve ever lost in my boxing career, it just happened to be for the heavyweight championship of the world at 21 years of age.

“All the way until a minute before the fight stopped I didn’t have a worry. It was only maybe the last couple of minutes of round nine that things just started go.

“I started moving in slow motion and he was in fast motion. And then it was like I just couldn’t do anything.

“The exhaustion had obviously kicked in. But at no point in that fight was I like, ‘oh, I’m messing up’. I still tried.

“Nine times out of 10, when people come up to me on the streets, they’re like, ‘it was a good fight’. And although I didn’t get the decision, boxing’s entertainment and I entertained. Congratulations to Filip Hrgovic.”

1 Vikings Corner Has Been Elite, Says PFF

Published

on

Vikings corner Isaiah Rodgers has been playing some sturdy football. In fact, PFF contends that he has been elite.

The public discourse around the analytics website hasn’t been particularly kind in 2026. And, to be sure, there are good reasons to be critical of many of the assessments within the grading system. Presumably, though, most in Minnesota will be pleased to see that Mr. Rodgers is sitting at 1st overall in the system’s corner ranking.

Vikings Corner Isaiah Rodgers in 1st Place

There’s both promise and peril in the way Brian Flores approaches calling games.

Sending so much pressure means that the quarterback gets walloped consistently. Being able to avoid these hits often means throwing quick, short passes. Minnesota’s corners can jump those routes, being disruptive and limiting gains. The corner understands that reality and uses it to his advantage.

Do note, though, that the pressure is a two-way street. Every defender who is flying forward is one less defender to drop back into coverage. As a result, the defensive backs are commonly left in single coverage since so many are trying to chase down the QB rather than clogging a zone and/or doubling a player.

So, keep the context of the defense in mind upon assessing what Isaiah Rodgers has been doing. It’s not as easy as it looks and not every corner is capable of doing what Rodgers has been doing.

On Pro Football Reference, there’s a similarly positive assessment of the work Rodgers has done. He has allowed just 7 catches on 22 targets, meaning he’s keeping passers to a truly putrid 31.8% completion rate. The CB2 has yet to allow a touchdown and the combined passer rating against him sits at 31.4. These numbers point to a quarterback considerably worse than the 2025 version of J.J. McCarthy.

— READ MORE: Ex-Vikings Coach Lands Gig Down in Dallas —

It’s very unlikely that Rodgers will be capable of sustaining such sizzling play. If he does, then he’ll demand All Pro votes.

Rodgers also sees some impressive basic statistics. He has had 15 tackles to stand alongside his interception and 4 passes defended. There’s then been a fumble recovery. Keep in mind, as well, that he blocked that field goal in Week 2, showing off tremendous burst flying off the line of scrimmage to keep points off the board.

Mandatory Credit: Jeffrey Becker-Imagn Images..

In a league where everyone is gifted athletically, Isaiah Rodgers stands out for his speed. There’s no exaggeration in saying that he’s among the fastest players in the NFL, an ability that has allowed him to do terrific work on both defense and specials in 2026.

Part of what makes the Vikings corner fascinating is that he’s working on the final year of his two-year agreement. His contract averages a touch beyond $5.2 million per season, meaning Kwesi Adofo-Mensah did remarkably well when signing the former Eagle in March of 2025. If his current play continues, Rodgers will triple or quadruple that annual average on his next deal.

Rodgers, 28, will look to continue demanding the top spot in PFF’s rankings in Week 7. In the meantime, he’ll be resting up during the Vikings’ bye.
