Lessons cancelled after incident at QE college in Darlington

Police and ambulance crews were called to the Vane Terrace college at around 1.30pm today (Tuesday, January 13). 

Pictures taken from the scene showed three police cars and one ambulance parked outside the building, with the Great North Air Ambulance Service also arriving by road.

Durham Police is yet to confirm the nature of the incident.

Now, an email from the college, seen by The Northern Echo, states there will be no lessons or sporting fixtures at the tomorrow, although a small number of exams will go ahead. 

It said: “As you may be aware, an isolated incident occurred at the college on Tuesday, January 13. 

“We are currently working with relevant agencies in relation to this and therefore there will be no lessons or sporting fixtures at the college on Wednesday, January 14. 

“The small number of scheduled public examinations will take place as planned. We will provide you with more information as soon as we are able to do so.”

QE previously said: “Earlier today an incident occurred at the college which has required the emergency services to attend.

“Those professionals are currently working with college. This is an isolated incident and does not present a risk to the college users or the general public.”

The North East Ambulance Service previously confirmed that it sent a double crewed ambulance and clinical team leader to the scene this afternoon.

They were joined by two doctors and a paramedic from the Great North Air Ambulance Service on a rapid response vehicle.
