A Vinted user has revealed how a normal purchase on the online marketplace changed their life forever, as it went on to create an unlikely and unexpected connection with another user.
When it comes to buying and selling on Vinted, you expect a smooth and simple interaction with a stranger online before thanking them for their business and forgetting all about them.
However, one shopper, who identified as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, explained how a simple sale lead to an unexpected friendship with a woman online.
Taking to Reddit, the Vinted user explained how they met up with a woman from the online marketplace after realising they had so much in common.
Sharing the ‘best’ interaction they’ve ever had on Vinted, the user said: “[A user] literally befriending me and arranging to come down to visit in April, and it’s hard to beat that!
“You can find friends in the strangest of places! It’s why I strive to be as authentically me as possible because you never know when interactions like this can happen.”
They went on to explain how they started speaking on the app about an item for sale – and this quickly led to conversations about their interests, with them both noticing how they had a lot in common.
They added: “She’s over twice my age but is queer as hell, very neurodivergent, and has a lot of the same trauma I have.
“We initially bonded over the mindset we have over clothes (love of circular economy, hatred for high street fashion, love of creating our own styles, etc), then it just grew until we called each other for two hours on Facebook messenger the evening we met, where I also met her husband. The rest, as they say, is history.”
Sharing their surprise over the unexpected friendship, one Reddit user said: “Ah how beautiful! I hope to experience similar soon! I’ve been struggling in that regard within the small village I’m from.”
Another user admitted: “I have to say that I found my actually girlfriend on Vinted by selling her some painting. We are together 1 year now. I met so many nice people on Vinted trough buying or selling even it sounds crazy.”
A third user said: “I met someone too, we caught feelings and when I got a boyfriend I broke his heart. I still miss him.”
Another user added: “I literally started a small business with someone I met on Depop haha! Sometimes it’s just meant to be, I guess.”
How to get sales on Vinted
It comes after a professional Vinted seller shared her top tips for making money on the online marketplace.
Caroline, known as caroline.shops on TikTok, uses her platform to educate others about thrifting, fashion, and general money hacks.
In one of her latest videos, she said: “Generally during the week, people are going to be at college or work so it’s generally a good idea to list things during the weekends.” She says this will likely increase your sales, especially in the evenings, as people are more active on the app then.
Not only this but she urges sellers to remain mindful of their pricing – saying you should always leave some “wiggle room for offers”. On the app, buyers commonly message sellers with a slightly lower price, hoping to secure a bargain.
She added: “Make sure you have your bundle deals turned on because if you do, it’s far more likely that people will buy more items from you.”
She urges people to take photos of their items in natural light and make sure to get every angle so the buyer can clearly see the items.
On top of this, she stressed the importance of highlighting any flaws in the description box.
Commenting on her post, one user said: “Caroline, madam, I just started Vinted selling – thank you.”
Another user said: “Fridays are the best day to list.”
