10 Sci-Fi Shows That Are Even Better the Second Time Around
Science fiction is a genre that lends itself wonderfully to re-watches, often more so than any other. After all, these are stories that are often mind-bending, full of foreshadowing and Easter eggs, and intricately complex in both their plotting and their thematic work. As such, re-visiting such works can be an incredibly rewarding experience that reveals new details, a higher appreciation of the directors and writers’ craftsmanship, and a better understanding of the whole narrative.
There are plenty of sci-fi shows out there that are even better the second time around, from groundbreaking space operas like Babylon 5 to mind-twisting time travel shows like Travelers. Whether it’s because their stories are difficult to understand on one’s first go, because they’re so thematically complex that a second watch makes them feel even more powerful, or because they’re simply too entertaining to watch only once, these are sci-fi masterpieces that demand further visits.
10
‘Falling Skies’ (2011–2015)
One would think that a post-apocalyptic sci-fi series executive-produced by Steven Spielberg and starring Noah Wyle would still be deeply entrenched in the sci-fi pop culture conversation in the midst of a decade as sci-fi-loving as the 2020s. But for some bizarre reason, Falling Skies aired for a pre-planned five-season run and then disappeared from the conversation.
It’s one of the most groundbreaking sci-fi shows that everyone forgot. Successfully bringing the massive cinematic scale of a Spielberg-esque alien apocalypse story to American cable television, the show delivered a hard-hitting, character-driven, gritty tale of survival and resilience. It deserves infinitely more love than it typically gets nowadays, and plenty of re-watches are in order.
9
‘Battlestar Galactica’ (2004–2009)
There are plenty of great sci-fi shows that should never get remade, but if there was a classic sci-fi series that was begging for a reimagining, it was 1978’s Battlestar Galactica. After 2003’s miniseries of the same name, one of the best sci-fi miniseries in history, came the 2004 full-length series. Likewise, it’s one of the best sci-fi TV shows in the genre’s history.
There are twists, profound philosophical and ethical questions, and complex character arcs in Battlestar Galactica that demand one or two re-watches in order to be fully appreciated. It’s a series whose narrative is built on deep foreshadowing, hidden motivations, and many clues that are best enjoyed when you already know how everything is going to play out.
8
‘Babylon 5’ (1994–1998)
In the history of American television, there’s a “before Babylon 5” period and an “after Babylon 5” period. Quite unusually for American broadcast television at the time (science fiction or otherwise), this show was designed from the start as a sort of novel for television, with five pre-planned seasons serving as one chapter in the story each. This sort of highly serialized storytelling completely revolutionized the medium.
Indeed, Babylon 5 is one of those sci-fi shows that would have been great during the streaming era—but thankfully, it’s still abundantly easy to watch today. The kinds of narrative payoffs and bits of foreshadowing that were thrown into Babylon 5‘s engrossing story become even more enjoyable on re-watch, and the series’ highly bingeable nature makes it even easier to revisit multiple times.
7
‘The Expanse’ (2015–2022)
Based on the incredible series of novels by James S.A. Corey, the pen name of collaborators Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck, The Expanse is one of the most rewatchable sci-fi shows ever made. It ran on Syfy for three seasons until it was canceled, only to be picked back up by Prime Video for another three outstanding seasons. Now, we’re left with one of the greatest six-season sci-fi shows in history.
For one, The Expanse has often been praised as the most scientifically accurate sci-fi show ever, and that definitely contributes to its being so enjoyable to revisit. But what really makes it one of those shows that get better on re-watch is the fact that its dense, sprawling universe rewards going in with prior knowledge. Full of complex politics and character motivations, it becomes even more enjoyable when you already understand them from the get-go.
6
‘The X-Files’ (1993–2018)
The X-Files is yet another sci-fi show from the ’90s that marked a before and an after in the history of American science fiction. Few sci-fi shows have ever been this impactful or influential throughout history, in no small measure because The X-Files‘ fandom largely pioneered the space of online fan culture. As a result, the series has remained a legendarily essential piece of modern pop culture up until this day.
It’s one of the best sci-fi shows you’ll wish you watched sooner, a true classic in every sense of the word. Its highly episodic nature makes it delectably easy to revisit time and time again in whatever order one’s heart desires, while its more serialized elements make those re-visits all the more rewarding. Once Mulder and Scully feel like family, re-watching their earlier adventures becomes even more enjoyable.
5
‘Firefly’ (2002–2003)
Firefly‘s tragic case is perhaps the most infamous instance of a sci-fi show being canceled way before it had the proper time to establish itself, but it’s still one of the best single-season action TV shows of all time. It’s a space Western without equal, bolstered by one of the best ensemble casts of any 21st-century genre show and some equally phenomenal writing.
Similar to The X-Files‘ Dana and Scully, Firefly becomes even more enjoyable once the crew of the Serenity starts to feel like the viewer’s own family. Already having the full context of the character’s layered backstories makes it easier to focus on the subtle world-building, the fun character dynamics, and the sharp dialogue.
4
‘Fringe’ (2008–2013)
Following a somewhat slow and far more episodic first season, Fringe only keeps growing more intensely serialized and sharply complex as it goes on. It is, through and through, one of those sci-fi shows that only keep getting better with each passing season, as well as one of those underrated sci-fi shows worth watching over and over again.
Already knowing Fringe‘s many destinations makes it far easier to enjoy the journey on a rewatch, where it starts coming across as even more of a meticulously planned, character-driven, and deeply emotional epic. The show’s many multiversal and timeline mysteries don’t lose any of their intellectual charm on rewatch, and the transition from episodic procedural to suspenseful serialized drama only becomes even more admirable.
3
‘Travelers’ (2016–2018)
There’s one subgenre of science fiction that benefits particularly strongly from re-visits across all forms of media, and that’s the time travel genre. After all, stories are inherently more enjoyable when you have a clearer understanding of how they work, and these mind-bending tales of history-altering travelers only become easier to understand on re-watch. Case in point: Travelers.
This incredible Netflix original is one of the most underrated time travel shows ever, a high-stakes mystery that keeps growing more layered and intellectually challenging over the course of its excellent three seasons. There are endless amounts of foreshadowing here that are incredibly enjoyable on rewatch, and the emotional and thematic depth of the story can be further appreciated on re-visits as well.
2
’12 Monkeys’ (2015–2018)
Back in 1995, Terry Gilliam delighted fans of time travel stories around the world with Twelve Monkeys, one of the greatest and most iconic time travel movies of all time. Making a show based on any movie is always a huge task, and when that movie is as widely celebrated as Gilliam’s masterpiece, even more so. However, not only did 12 Monkeys perfectly live up to expectations, it arguably even surpassed them.
It’s one of the most underrated masterpieces of the sci-fi TV genre, a flawlessly planned and meticulously structured gem that actually makes remarkable sense—something rather rare for time travel stories. Since the story was mapped out from the very beginning, re-watching the show helps one appreciate all the bits of foreshadowing, hidden clues, and thematic payoffs that the writers sprinkled throughout the whole series.
1
‘Dark’ (2017–2020)
For people who love sci-fi shows with mind-bending plot twists, there’s no show quite like Netflix’s first-ever German-language series, Dark. It’s one of the greatest mind-twisters and sci-fi thrillers in the history of modern television, a tale of time travel and parallel universes that could have only possibly been made during the streaming era.
Like 12 Monkeys, Dark was meticulously mapped out from the very beginning, so re-watching it further illuminates all manner of hidden details, foreshadowing elements, and complex intricacies that viewers wouldn’t have otherwise noticed or properly appreciated. That’s what makes this one of the greatest genre shows of the 21st century: Even though it’s an intellectually challenging watch, it rewards those willing to undergo that challenge with a fascinating story that they can—and will want to—revisit time and time again.

Love Island’s Zach Jokes About Being in Love With Kayda After Sex
Love Island USA‘s Zach Georgiou jokingly declared his love for Kayda Bosse multiple times after they had sex in the communal bedroom.
The Sunday, June 28, episode showed Zach and Kayda having sex under the covers in the villa. He told her he loved her before walking it back — and he did the same the next morning after their recoupling.
The couple reunited after Zach explored a romance with Alannah Keyser in Casa Amor. Zach walked back into the villa alone after Alannah was removed from the show after facing backlash for a resurfaced video that allegedly showed her using a racial slur.
The video and other posts were not shared publicly until after Alannah’s appearance on the show and thus were not accessible during the vetting process.
“Hi everyone, I’m coming on here to address some things that have been circulated online. I do want to begin by addressing the video of me singing along to a Roddy Ricch song that contains a racial slur. I’m sorry to whoever has seen that video and has been offended by it. That was never my intention,” Alannah said in a Saturday, June 27, TikTok. “The video is from six years ago and that word is just not in my vocabulary anymore.”

She continued, “I’d also like to address the screenshots that have been going around online that have been falsified. What has been shared does not reflect the truth and it has never been in my character to discriminate against anybody’s skin color. I do want to say directly that I do not support racism or discrimination of any kind and I never have.”
Earlier this season, another contestant, Vasana Montgomery, was cut from the show after resurfaced social media posts showed her using a slur. Similar issues arose during season 7 last year, with Yulissa Escobar leaving days into the experience after clips of her using racial slurs on a podcast circulated online.
Cierra Ortega also faced backlash for using a slur in her own resurfaced social media post. She was pulled from the villa and later issued an apology for her past actions.
New episodes of Love Island USA are released six days a week — except for Wednesdays — on Peacock.

The Sci-Fi Masterpiece That Outdid Marvel’s Multiverse Is Finally Free To Watch in 2 Days
It might feel as if the multiverse is a relatively new concept; after all, Hollywood hasn’t been able to get enough of it over recent years. However, the concept actually dates back to 1950s quantum physics and has been appearing in popular culture ever since. It is, nevertheless, this past decade that has seen a boom in the multiverse’s popularity, most notably with the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the $1.9 billion blockbuster that stands as one of the highest-grossing movies of the 2020s.
In the film, fans were left picking their jaws up off the floor as Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker came face-to-face with a returning Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, with this no doubt a massive contributor to the film’s box office triumph. At the end of the film, Holland’s Parker is wiped from the memory of the world, leaving him to pick up the pieces on July 31 in Spider-Man: Brand New Day — “A forgotten Peter Parker lives alone as a full-time Spider-Man,” the synopsis for the movie reads, “until mounting pressure triggers a dangerous change and a powerful new enemy emerges.”
But before Brand New Day swings into theaters, the best multiverse movie of the decade is about to become available for free. Everything Everywhere All at Once, directed by the Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), soared to success in 2022, with its bonkers, existential blend of multiple genres praised by both critics and audiences. In fact, so successful was the film that it earned a staggering 11 Academy Award nominations and won 7, most notably in three of the four major acting categories and the coveted Best Picture. Starting July 1, you’ll be able to stream Everything Everywhere All at Once for free on Plex.
‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ Broke a Box Office Record
Somehow, the Daniels managed to make this ambitious, visually stunning masterpiece for just $25 million. At the box office, the film smashed expectations and earned $145 million worldwide, split between a domestic haul of $77 million and a further $68 million from overseas markets. This was enough to make the film A24’s highest-grossing of all time, although that record has since been broken and is currently held by the recent viral horror hit Backrooms.
Everything Everywhere All at Once is streaming for free on Plex starting July 1. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for the latest streaming stories.

Teyana Taylor Shares Question She Asked Amid 2026 BET Awards
While accepting her Icon of the Year award at the 2026 BET Awards ceremony, Teyana Taylor got candid about her thoughts on such a loaded title.
“Tonight they handed me a title and that title is Icon of the Year and for a little minute I wondered if I was supposed to feel uncomfortable saying that title out loud,” Taylor, 35, said after accepting the award from — an appropriately fangirling out in front of — the one and only Janet Jackson during the Sunday, June 28, ceremony.
“But nah, I worked my ass off 20 years for this,” she continued. “So I’m not accepting what I have earned with arrogance. I am accepting what I have earned with gratitude. In this year alone I continued to give the world the artist, actress, director, choreographer, creative director, stylist, designer, writer, producer and chef — I graduated September ya’ll.”
She added, “Most of my career has been spent building my own dream while helping somebody else build there’s because I believe there is room for all of us to win even if that means pouring from my own cup into someone else’s so they can overflow. Not because I have to but because that’s just who I am. That’s pretty damn iconic if you ask me.”
Taylor pointed out that her outlook of helping others while climbing her own career ladder is uncommon in the entertainment industry, infamously known for being cutthroat.

“This business can be very wicked. This business is wicked, you know?” she continued. “It teaches teaches us to compete. But I never believed that my success had to cost someone else’s there’s.”
She added, “If I know something, I should teach it. If I open a door, I should hold it. If I have a platform, I should make room for another voice. Because I believe greatness isn’t measured by how many people stand beneath you, it is measure by how many people are standing beside you because you’re willing to reach back. That’s the only legacy I care about, so tonight I will wear this title loud and proud because I promise I will continue to earn it.”
The actress, who also earned three additional awards Sunday evening including Video Director of the Year and Fashion Vanguard, went on to thank her nearest and dearest — her parents and her two children, Iman “Junie” Tayla Shumpert Jr. and Rue Rose Shumpert.
“To my mom and dad, you know it’s up for you any time,” she continued. “Oh my god, thank you for teaching me that greatness isn’t something you just talk about it’s something that you live. And I love you so much, I love you so much. And to my greatest masterpiece, my babies, Junie and Rue. If one day people remember me as an Icon I pray the two of you always remember me simply as home. Mommy loves you so so much. I love you, and you better me watching me and off those goddamn phones per usual.”
She concluded her moving speech by thanking everyone who has “allowed me to be apart of your story” and those who have found a way to be a part of hers.
“It truly takes a village and i’m beyond blessed by the one god has given me,” she said.

Chrissy Teigen Defends Sharing Nipple-Baring Pics Online
Chrissy Teigen has defended her decision to share a slew of pictures via social media that expose her nipple through a sheer shirt.
“I think because they have been cut into disks and reattached to my body like three times and also they’ve fed babies and stuff, I really don’t think of nips (mine especially) as sexy or risqué but my apologies if you do,” Teigen, 40, wrote in the comments section of a Sunday, June 28, Instagram carousel that included the snaps.
She continued, “I hope u will survive it 🙏🙏🙏 almost sure u will. Love u so much.”
Of the five pics shared by the model and entrepreneur, four flashed her right nipple through a collared white button-up shirt while one snap showed Teigen’s arm concealing said flesh.
Fans were quick to show their support for Teigen, who shares four children with husband John Legend. (Teigen gave birth to three of the pair’s kids — daughters Luna, 9, and Esti, 3, and son Miles, 8 — while a surrogate helped the couple welcome their youngest son, Wren, 3.)
“Girl, mine have been cut off, re-built out of my belly skin, and tattooed. Nips ain’t nothing scandalous to me either!” wrote one fan in the post’s comments section, while another wrote, “Love your sassy honesty.”
Legend, 47, also showed support for his wife by dropping a heart-eyed emoji in the comments section.
Teigen is no stranger to her shared candid antics via her social media that ruffles fan feathers. In June 2024, she and Legend attracted backlash after Legend uploaded a video of his wife exfoliating her body amid brown bathwater. The post’s comments section was littered with disapproving comments.
“Okay thankful I listened to it bc she said she’s wiping ALL her body makeup off … only way this kind of water would be okay,” wrote one fan, while another wrote, “Damn she needs to let that dirty water drain before posting on social media.”
Teigen addressed the criticism hours later by writing in the comments section herself, “The water is dirty because I’m getting my body makeup off, like I said in the video my sweet angels!”
The following year, online trolls took issue with her bathwater again when Teigen shared photos of a coconut milk bath with her children. “It’s a coconut milk bath for sensitive skin but go off,” she later wrote.
Teigen’s online honesty goes beyond discussions about her body and bathing rituals. Earlier this month, she publicly mourned the loss of her father, Ron, via an Instagram video that saw her reveal that she will continue to talk to him “every night.” She has also been candid about pregnancy loss, mental health, therapy and her sobriety, among other subjects, over the years.

Teyana Taylor Has The Biggest Night At The BET Awards
Teyana Taylor continues to cement her status as one of the entertainment’s most versatile talents. The singer, actress, and director earned recognition across multiple categories at the BET Awards, topping off an unforgettable evening when she received the Icon of the Year Award from one of her biggest inspirations, Janet Jackson.

At the BET Awards on June 28, multihyphenate Teyana Taylor received one of the night’s biggest honors, the Icon of the Year Award. Although the announcement was made weeks in advance, the actress was unaware that Janet Jackson would be presenting the special honorary award.
Taylor was in tears as Jackson spoke about her decades-long career achievements. “You possess an unflinching perfectionism, a devotion woven into everything you touch. Your focus and vision summon into being what most would call impossible,” said Jackson, emphasizing what Taylor has achieved while raising two children. “A testament to the greatest superhero the world will ever know, the Black woman,” Jackson continued.
Taylor was still wiping tears as she accepted the honor. “Oh my god, b-tch. I’m gagging… They did not tell me Janet was coming, b-tch. It is so crazy,” she said, jumping up and down on the stage.
The Singer Accepted The Award ‘With Gratitude’
In early June, BET revealed Taylor would be the recipient of the Icon of the Year Award, stating the recognition “belongs to the creative force whose work, presence, and vision are setting the tone right now.”
During her acceptance speech, Teyana said she initially felt “uncomfortable” with the title, but later embraced the honor. “I worked my a-s off 20 years for this. So I’m not accepting what I’ve earned with arrogance, I’m accepting what I’ve earned with gratitude,” she said.
The singer then reflected on her career, explaining that she focused on fulfilling her dreams while helping others build theirs. “I believe there’s room for all of us to win, even if that means pouring from my own cup into someone else’s, so they can overflow,” Taylor shared.
She told the audience how proud she was of the honor, promising she would “continue to earn it.”
Teyana Taylor Acknowledged Her Parents And Children
Taylor expressed gratitude to her parents for teaching her the “value of greatness.” She also acknowledged her “greatest masterpiece,” her two daughters, 10-year-old Junie and 5-year-old Rue, whom she shares with her ex-husband, Iman Shumpert.
“If one day people remember me as an icon. I pray the two of you always remember me simply as home. Mommy loves you so, so much,” Taylor said, addressing her children.
Taylor is incredibly close to her children, often bringing them to red carpets and high-profile events throughout the years. She also has a close bond with her mother, Nikki Taylor, who raised her as a single mother and serves as her manager.
The Acclaimed Actress Took Home The Most Wins

Apart from taking home the Icon of the Year Award, Taylor also earned competitive wins, making her the most-awarded artist of the night.
Taylor won Best Actress for her portrayal of Perfidia Beverly Hills in the action thriller “One Battle After Another,” a performance that also earned her a Golden Globe in January.
Additionally, she took home Video Director of the Year for the short film/visual album “Escape Room,” which she helmed under the pseudonym Spike Tey.
The 2026 BET Awards also introduced a new category this year, the Fashion Vanguard Award, to honor the figure whose style has made a cultural impact. Among those nominated are A$AP Rocky, Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, Cardi B, Colman Domingo, Doechii, Rihanna, and Zendaya, with Taylor taking home the honor.
Teyana Taylor Adds Another Skill To Her Arsenal

Few entertainers have worn as many hats as Taylor. She first made her mark in entertainment as a recording artist before branching into acting, where she delivered acclaimed performances in both film and TV.
Beyond performing, Taylor has become an accomplished producer, director, choreographer, and creative director. Her willingness to explore different creative disciplines establishes her as one of the most versatile artists.
In 2025, Taylor delved into a new specialty, sharing that she started training to become a chef. In Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series, she told Oscar Isaac that cooking keeps her grounded amid her busy life. “It’s actually the thing that gives me a few, to just be quiet and cook,” she said.
During her speech at the BET Awards, she revealed that she will graduate from culinary school in September, adding yet another accomplishment to her already impressive resume.

Collin Gosselin Says It ‘Hurts’ Seeing Sister Connect With Mom
Collin Gosselin is opening up about his complicated family dynamics ahead of his tell-all memoir.
“I think [my sister] Hannah [Gosselin] is very sentimental and reminiscent, in a way, and I think she wants to still have a piece of that family,” Gosselin, 22, said in an interview first conducted over a year ago, but re-shared on Saturday, June 27, via YouTube ahead of Collin’s book. “And I even look back at it like this — during my parents’ divorce Hannah was always so much closer with my dad. But now that I look at it I don’t think that it was that she was closer with my dad, I think she just wanted both parents in her life. And it makes a lot of sense and that literally is normal — that’s a normal thing kids want that.”
Collin and Hannah, also 22, are two of Kate Gosselin and ex-husband Jon Gosselin’s eight children, made famous by their reality TV series Jon & Kate Plus 8. The former couple also share twins Mady and Cara, both 25, and the remaining sextuplets Alexis, Leah, Joel and Aiden, all 22.
The pair finalized their divorce in December 2009 after 10 years of marriage. Jon eventually took custody of Hannah and Collin, while Kate retained custody of the pair’s remaining six children.
From Collin’s point of view, before Hannah went to live with their father she wanted to be “closer” to him. After living with him, he believes she shifted her focus back to her mom.
“Now that she’s with my dad and she knows that my dad loves her and he’s never gonna leave her or throw her out on a limb or anything like that, I think she wants to now fix that relationship with my mom,” he alleged. “What hurts me on that is that Hannah wants to fix the relationship with my mom — Hannah wants to get into the emotional and the feelings part of it because she cares about people.”
He continued, “For my mom, it’s going on social media. It’s going on TikTok and saying, ‘Oh, hi, just talked to Hannah today. … So for Hannah it’s a relationship, and for my mom it’s a PR stunt and that’s what really hurts me.”
Us Weekly has reached out to Kate for comment on her son’s claims.
Collin’s come as he promotes his upcoming tell-all memoir, detailing life as a child under the harsh spotlight of reality TV and his family’s ongoing estrangement. Us exclusively revealed the cover of the book, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, earlier this month.
“This book is about truth, survival, resilience and finding my voice after years of being silenced,” Collin told Us. “If my story helps even one person feel less alone or gives them the courage to tell their own, then every difficult page was worth writing.”
As for where he stands with Hannah as she continues to mend her relationship with her mother, Collins says he’ll always be in his sibling’s corner.
“I love my sister and I’ll always be there for her,” he said. “I even texted her the other day and I said — it was about recent events — I said, ‘I know you don’t want to talk about these things and we’re not going to.’ I just said, ‘I love you and I’m always going to be there for you.’”
He added, “I just want her to know that her relationship with my mom and our siblings is never going to determine our relationship, and I’m never going to have hard feelings for her because of that. … I’m never going to tell her how to feel — I’m always there for her despite her relationship with my mom.”

Stars Wow in Naked Dresses at 2026 BET Awards: Lizzo, More
The stars left little to the imagination while attending the 2026 BET Awards, proving once again that the naked dress trend is here to stay.
Lizzo stepped out on Sunday, June 28, in a bronze glittery gown with a sheer skirt that highlighted her recent weight loss.
“I’ve been methodical, losing weight very slowly,” the “Truth Hurts” rap star told The New York Times in April 2024. “I don’t really see it because if anyone who’s on a natural weight-loss journey knows, losing weight is actually the slowest thing in the world and you don’t really notice it until you notice it. Also, the scale’s not really moving. But anyway, that doesn’t matter. I’m super proud of my current lifestyle.”
Lizzo was far from the only star to don a sheer gown at the BET Awards. Scroll below to see their best looks:

T-Pain Plays Unreleased Oliver Tree Song After His Death
T-Pain shared an unreleased collaboration with Oliver Tree in honor of the musician just two weeks after his shocking death.
The rapper, real name Faheem Rashad Najm, was performing with Shaquille O’Neal, aka DJ Diesel, at the Electric Forest festival in Michigan in the late hours of Saturday, June 27, when he unveiled the new track, per social media footage.
Fan clips captured the emotional moment when T-Pain, 41, rolled out a video montage of clips of the late Tree as the track played.
The song’s public release came two weeks after Tree died in a mid-air helicopter collision over Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro. He was 32 years old.
In T-Pain’s video montage, Tree was seen performing, riding a scooter down multiple hills and goofing around with friends. As the throwback videos played, T-Pain held his hand in the air before asking the crowd to wave their arms from side to side in unison.
T-Pain and Tree were known to be close friends, with the former often hosting the latter on his “Nappy Boy Radio Podcast.”

News of Tree’s death circulated online after CNN Brazil reported on the fatal helicopter incident that occurred on June 14. The outlet stated at the time that two helicopters had crashed into one another, resulting in the death of six people including Tree. There were no survivors.
The musician and artist had been traveling in Brazil as part of his world tour at the time. After performing in São Paulo on June 6, Tree was scheduled to take to the stage in Lisbon, Portugal on July 1.
A spokesperson for Rio de Janeiro’s State Civil Police Press Office told USA Today in the collision’s aftermath that an investigation was being conducted to determine the “causes of the aircraft crash.”

Once a forensic examination that was conducted at the scene is finalized, the Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center will release its report. The outlet added that preliminary reports indicated that the falling helicopters crashed “into the parking lot of an electric car dealership, igniting a fire that consumed at least 20 vehicles.”
Tree’s team revealed via an Instagram post on Sunday, June 21, that his body had been recovered and transferred to California. The post, shared via Tree’s official account, also announced that he will be honored via a forthcoming foundation. “His legacy will live on through his foundation/endowment named ‘Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses’ coming soon,” the post stated. “This is something that Oliver had put together before his passing, written in his will. We will make sure his wish comes to fruition so that more joy, love and art can be spread into the world, that was his final wish.”
T-Pain shared his own tribute to Tree via Instagram in the wake of his friend’s death. “Thanks for sharing your art and for always being different in the best way possible. See you on the brighter side,” T-Pain wrote hours after the news broke.
