The Japanese survival series, based on Haro Aso’s manga, follows Arisu (Kento Yamazaki), a directionless young man who suddenly finds himself trapped inside a deserted version of Tokyo alongside his friends. Now, survival in this strange world depends on competing in a series of deadly games that test intelligence, teamwork, betrayal, and psychological endurance. Each game is categorized by playing cards that determine both its difficulty and the type of challenge contestants will face, which immediately gives the series a constant sense of unease.
Alice in Borderland quickly establishes that absolutely nobody is safe. The series wastes very little time throwing its characters into horrifying situations where every misstep can lead to immediate death. Yet despite all the spectacle, the show heavily focuses on the emotional and psychological impact these games have on the people forced to participate in them. The twists in Alice in Borderland are effective because they don’t just exist for shock value. In fact, every major revelation completely changes the audience’s understanding of the world itself. ‘Mare of Easttown’ (2021)

Jimmy is then transferred to a maximum-security prison for the criminally insane to befriend suspected serial killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser) in exchange for a reduced sentence. The catch is that during his time there, he has to gain Larry’s trust and convince him to reveal where the bodies of several murdered women are buried. The seemingly simple task becomes increasingly complicated as the story goes on.
The interesting thing is that Black Bird doesn’t really make use of graphic violence to drive its point. Most of the suspense in the series comes from conversations between the two men, where one wrong move could lead to disaster for Jimmy. The show slowly transforms into a psychological chess match where viewers are never completely sure of who is in control. The twists in Black Bird work because they are tied directly to Jimmy’s growing understanding of Larry. The series constantly forces audiences to question whether Larry is manipulating Jimmy or telling the truth. Every new confession or detail quietly changes the emotional stakes of the story. ‘You’ (2018–2025)
Netflix’s You, based on Caroline Kepnes’ novels, is a haunting psychological thriller that follows Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), a charming bookstore manager whose idea of love quickly spirals into obsession, stalking, manipulation, and even murder. Joe has this habit of inserting himself into the lives of the women he becomes fixated on because he is convinced that every horrific thing he does is somehow justified in the name of love. The series is extremely addictive because it essentially traps the audience inside Joe’s perspective. His internal narration drives the story. The fact that he is intelligent, funny, and self-aware almost convinces the audience of his twisted logic before he does something to remind them how dangerous he really is.

‘The R&B Tour’ had a show in Birmingham, Alabama, on Tuesday, and Usher brought things back to normal following some drama with a fan in Nashville over the weekend.
Usher is notorious for getting veeeeery close with his fans onstage, and most are enthusiastic after being chosen for the special moment. However, a fan named Gabrielle Cheyenne was booted off the stage in Nashville after she failed to go along, but things are back to normal as Usher heated up the Birmingham stage.
The singer brought a fan onstage while performing ‘Can U Handle It?’ However, this time he had a fan who was very enthusiastic, and she went IN, okay?! Not only that, Usher seemed to co-sign her performance when he looked at the audience in shock after she got on top of him.
Things got even more spicy after a bowl of cherries got involved. As the fan straddled Usher, a bowl of cherries was brought to the stage. The fan was supposed to feed the cherry to Usher, but she sucked on it for a moment beforehand.
As she attempted to feed him, the ‘Good Good’ artist opened his mouth wide. Just as he was about to eat the cherry, he turned his head and sent the audience into hysterics.

UPDATE 7/30/26, 4 a.m. ET: Folk singer Linda Perhacs has been “found safely” after concerned friends reported her missing earlier this week.
“We are grateful to share that singer-songwriter Linda Perhacs has been located and is safe,” Perhacs’ former manager Laurel Stearns said in a statement to Rolling Stone on Thursday, July 30. “After a period of concern during which friends, collaborators, and members of the music community were unable to establish contact with Linda and had filed police reports accordingly. Law enforcement has just confirmed that she has been found and is safe.”
The statement continued, “We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who helped amplify this effort by sharing information, reaching out with support, and expressing genuine care for Linda’s well-being. The overwhelming response from fans, fellow musicians, journalists, and the broader creative community has been a powerful reminder of the profound impact Linda’s music. We are especially grateful to the authorities for their assistance and to all those who worked behind the scenes to help bring clarity to this situation.”

Folk singer Linda Perhacs has been reported missing months after being released from a residential care facility.
Perhacs’ friend Mark McNeill shared a plea for help via Instagram on Monday, July 27, writing, “Linda Perhacs our dear friend and legendary singer-songwriter was discharged from a residential care facility approximately eight months ago under the supervision of her legal guardian.”
McNeill claimed that Perhacs’ loved ones have been unable to get in touch with her.
“Since then, friends and longtime collaborators have been unable to reach her and repeated attempts to contact her guardian have reportedly gone unanswered,” he continued.

In the social media post, McNeill urged his followers to reach out to Perhacs’ former manager Laurel Stearns via email with any “verified information regarding Linda’s whereabouts or current means of contact.”
McNeill’s post was jointly shared by Stearns, Jessica Hundley, who directed the music video for Perhacs’ song “Prisms of Glass,” and musician Julia Holter.
Stearns broke her silence about her former client’s disappearance in a statement to Entertainment Weekly, claiming “concern is growing” among Perhacs’ close friends, collaborators and the music community.
According to Stearns, “numerous friends and longtime collaborators report they have been unable to establish direct contact” with Perhacs since she was discharged.
“Repeated attempts to communicate with her guardian have also, they say, gone unanswered,” she added.
Perhacs, 83, is best known for her debut album, Parallelograms, which was released in 1970.
Despite its low sales, the album was rediscovered three decades later and was reissued numerous times due to growing demand during the New Weird America movement.
Perhacs went on to release The Soul of All Natural Things in 2014, followed by her third studio album, I’m a Harmony, three years later.
Cardi B is setting the record straight about her appearance following renewed speculation over whether she altered her famous curves. During a recent Instagram Live, the rapper confirmed that she previously had her butt injections reduced. However, she denied recently undergoing surgery to achieve her current figure and said she has not had another procedure since January 2024. Her candid admission came days after her appearance at Pacha NYC sparked widespread discussion about her noticeably plump posterior.

Although liposuction could remove additional volume, the rapper claimed that taking that approach could cause her backside to droop due to loose skin. Correcting that result would require a more invasive operation and a lengthy recovery period, neither of which currently appeals to her. “So I would have to cut myself. And I’m not cutting myself,” Cardi continued. “I’m not sitting down for four months. I’m outside, like I said.”

Despite the constant commentary surrounding her curves, Cardi insisted she is happy with her appearance. “I like my body how it looks right now. I’m comfortable in my skin,” she said.
The “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker also emphasized that she has never attempted to hide her cosmetic procedures from the public. “I’m very, very honest,” she said. “First of all, I got two lipos and one a-s reduction.”
Cardi explained that she originally decided to reduce the injections because she felt the exaggerated shape did not properly suit her naturally small frame. “First thing first, I am a small girl,” she said. “I’m a very small, petite girl. My mom is petite. My sister’s petite. My aunts are small.”

Johnny Depp is stepping back into the Hollywood spotlight as Ebenezer Scrooge in Paramount’s dark new take on A Christmas Carol.
One critic has pushed back against celebrations surrounding Depp’s return, arguing that the film’s marketing glosses over the controversies that derailed his career. Much of the backlash stems from his bitter legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, which damaged his reputation and cost him several major roles.
Johnny Depp is set to return to major Hollywood studio filmmaking in Paramount’s dark reimagining of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The actor unveiled the first trailer for Ebenezer after making a surprise appearance in full costume as Ebenezer Scrooge at San Diego Comic-Con, staying in character as the famously bitter miser throughout.
Directed by horror filmmaker Ti West, the movie puts a darker spin on the classic holiday tale, with Scrooge haunted by terrifying versions of the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. The film also boasts a star-studded cast that includes Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Daisy Ridley, and Sam Claflin.
Ebenezer is scheduled to hit theaters on November 13 and is being positioned as Depp’s first major studio release in years. The trailer even features the pointed line, “I’m back,” a moment many fans have interpreted as a nod to both Scrooge’s story and the actor’s Hollywood comeback.
Guardian Critic Questions Johnny Depp’s Hollywood Return
Not everyone is celebrating Depp’s return to Hollywood. In a sharply critical review for The Guardian, columnist Stuart Heritage argued that the actor’s new role as Ebenezer Scrooge asks audiences to overlook the controversies that have defined his recent years.
Heritage pointed to the trailer’s emphasis on Depp’s comeback, including the tagline calling him the “master of misfits” and the line, “I’m back.” He argued that, rather than simply promoting a new film, the marketing deliberately positions Ebenezer as Depp’s return to mainstream Hollywood.
The columnist also questioned whether enough time has passed since Depp’s court cases and abuse allegations for such a comeback to feel comfortable. While acknowledging that the film’s horror elements under director Ti West could suit the actor’s public image, Heritage suggested a darker role may be easier for audiences to embrace than a conventional redemption story. Even so, he conceded that the movie’s box office performance in November will ultimately determine whether the comeback succeeds.
Amber Heard Case Reshaped Johnny Depp’s Career
Depp’s public downfall was largely driven by his bitter legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard. She accused him of domestic abuse, allegations he repeatedly denied. In 2020, Depp lost his UK libel case against The Sun, with the judge finding the newspaper’s description of him as a “wife beater” was “substantially true,” according to Reuters.
Two years later, a Virginia jury largely sided with Depp in the former couple’s dueling defamation claims. Heard was ordered to pay him damages, while Depp was also found liable over one statement made by his attorney.
His controversies extend beyond the marriage. City of Lies crew member Gregg Brooks accused Depp of punching him on set, though the actor denied the allegation and the lawsuit was later settled. His lavish spending and legal disputes with former financial managers have also generated years of damaging headlines.
Depp’s Legal Problems Cost Him Roles
At the height of his legal battles, Depp’s standing in Hollywood suffered a significant hit as major studios began moving away from him. After the UK libel case in 2020, Warner Bros. asked him to step down from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise, replacing him as dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald.
His future as Captain Jack Sparrow also became uncertain. During the 2022 Virginia defamation trial, Depp’s longtime agent testified that Disney had moved in “a different direction” with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise following the allegations against the actor, although the company has never publicly confirmed that was the reason.
Speaking to The Telegraph last year, Depp said he felt “shunned, dumped, booted, deep-sixed, canceled” by the industry after losing the role. While he continued making films overseas, his upcoming turn as Scrooge in “Ebenezer” is widely being viewed as one of his most serious attempts yet to reestablish himself in mainstream Hollywood.
