Tom Hardy has starred in plenty of big projects over the last few years, but few have picked up as much steam and developed the same level of audience as MobLand. Hardy’s stardom is certainly part of what helped draw people to the show in the first place, but MobLand also features other stars like Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren at the front to draw an even more vast audience. If that wasn’t enough, Paramount recruited tenured action and crime thriller director Guy Ritchie to direct several episodes of MobLand. He also produces the show, and while it’s primarily written by Ronan Bennett, Ritchie is said to be heavily involved with the creative direction of the series. Bennett also recently wrote the first season of The Day of the Jackal, the Peacock original spy series based on the writings that inspired Reacher.
Paramount renewed MobLand for a second season not long after the conclusion of the first, and only a few months later, cameras were rolling on the sophomore season of the Hardy and Brosnan-led crime drama. Production on MobLand Season 2 wrapped earlier this year, and while Paramount has still yet to assign the show a spot on the release calendar, it is expected to premiere before the end of this year. However, MobLand fans have been dealt a massive blow as it’s being reported that Tom Hardy has officially been fired from his role as Harry Da Souza in the show. Hardy will be seen in the second season since it has already wrapped, but if MobLand is picked up for Season 3 and beyond, Hardy will not be back in the role. It’s unclear if the role will be recast or written out entirely.
Why Was Tom Hardy Fired From ‘MobLand’?
Paramount reportedly let Tom Hardy go from MobLand after the conclusion of Season 2 filming for being consistently late to set, clashing with writers and constantly trying to rewrite lines and dialogue during filming, and pushing back at the show becoming more of an ensemble series, taking the spotlight off of his character. Hardy had a reputation for the same behavior on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road, where he clashed with his co-star Charlize Theron on several occasions after showing up late and not knowing his lines.
