Philipps added that she almost skipped her appointment to undergo the scan as she didn’t have any obvious symptoms and the consultation was scheduled to take place just one day after her former Dawson’s Creek costar, James Van Der Beek, died from stage III colorectal cancer.

“‘Should I cancel it?’” Philipps recalled asking her ex-husband, Marc Silverstein, who responded, “Maybe it’s the best thing you could do for your friend this morning. Go get that scan.”

After the scan confirmed a tumor had been detected, Philipps underwent a procedure in March so doctors could remove a 2.6-centimeter mass from her brain.

Philipps’ procedure was successful, and she told the outlet that she “wasn’t in pain at all.” However, she faced a setback in April when she contracted staphylococcus on her incision and needed a follow-up surgery to debride and clear the wound.

In the People interview, Philipps shared the impact her cancer diagnosis had on her two daughters, Birdie, 17, and Cricket, 13, whom she shares with Silverstein, 55.

“[Birdie] was kind of beside herself and really, really scared and overwhelmed with emotion,” Philipps said. “I just kept saying to her, ‘Birdie, you’re just not in the movie where your mom dies your senior year of high school. That’s just not the movie that you’re in. I promise you.’”

The actress said Cricket processed the news in a calmer way than her eldest child.

‘OK. You’re going to be fine?’ And I was like, ‘I’m totally going to be fine,’” Philipps said. “And she’s like, ‘OK.’”

10 Perfect Movies That Are Over 2 Hours

Published

on

Cillian Murphy smoking a pipe in Oppenheimer

We live in a society that loves instant gratification. We love a quick fix, we need the satisfaction of having completed something so we can move on to the next adventure. It’s why on television, miniseries and smaller episode orders are the new frontier. But when it comes to movies, audiences don’t necessarily want to be in and out; rather, they want to experience the joy of the cinema for as long as they can.

Though there are certainly some great films that run around ninety minutes, some of the greatest films of all time are longer than two hours, and we’re here to honor them. In 180 minutes or more, a complete story is brought to life through cinematic magic. These films are so perfect that time fades away as we are completely immersed in the action, and by the time the credits roll, we forget how long we’ve been happily glued to our screens. From modern thrillers to beloved classics, these ten titles are over two hours and well worth the time.

‘Oppenheimer’ (2023) – 3 Hours and 1 Minute

Cillian Murphy smoking a pipe in Oppenheimer Image via Universal Pictures

Trying to condense an entire biography into a single film can often be a struggle, but with someone like Christopher Nolan at the helm, the task was handled with ease. Told across multiple timelines, Oppenheimer traces the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), from his university days studying quantum physics through the Trinity test, the world’s first successful nuclear explosion, to his moral and emotional turmoil as he sat for his 1954 security clearance hearing during the Red Scare.

Just over three hours long, Oppenheimer is more than just a fascinating true story; it’s a masterclass in performance and direction. The film flies through at a restless pace that pulls you straight into the chaotic world of Los Alamos. By flipping back and forth between color and black-and-white, there are no dull moments, as every scene is informative of Oppenheimer’s psyche. Murphy gives a haunting transformation as Oppenheimer, carrying the weight of the world. Alongside a stellar ensemble, this dialogue-heavy film is like watching the greatest stars do what they do best.

‘Pulp Fiction’ (1994) – 2 Hours and 34 Minutes

John Travolta and Uma Thurman dancing in Pulp Fiction Image via Miramax Films

If you keep the action moving at a relentless pace, a multi-perspective thriller will move along at a perfect pace. In Quentin Tarantino’s ’90s-defining Pulp Fiction, four interconnected stories are brought to life as it tells the tale of criminals, hitmen, and boxers in Los Angeles. Jumping back and forth in time through a bookend of a young couple, Pumpkin (Tim Roth) and Honey Bunny (Amanda Plummer), who plan to rob a restaurant, Pulp Fiction uses dark, humorous dialogue, philosophical chats, and random bursts of violence to force the individuals to question their dangerous lives.

Pulp Fiction’s unconventional structure, razor-sharp dialogue, and deeply developed characters make it function as an intricately woven tapestry. Audiences spend their time eagerly waiting to see who or what might pop up next and how it affects future events. With an unpredictable nature to the story, Pulp Fiction keeps you on your toes, as you never know when an incidental overdose or accidental car shooting can disrupt the conversations. By the time the film ends, you’re left highly satisfied thanks to its ultimate character collision, an iconic soundtrack, and high-voltage thrills.

‘Schindler’s List’ (1993) – 3 Hours and 15 Minutes

Liam Neeson walking in his factory in Schindler's List Image via Universal Pictures

Sitting through a story about a harrowing period of world history may not sound like a fun time, but when it’s a masterpiece like Schindler’s List, it’s worth the length. Steven Spielberg’s historical drama recounts the true story of Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson), a German businessman who saved over 1,000 Jewish lives during the Holocaust. With the aid of his accountant, Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley), Schindler spends his entire fortune bribing Nazi officials and producing fake military goods to keep his workers alive until the war ends.

Despite the topic, the three-hour-plus runtime is crucial for the director. Spielberg carefully plots the story as he builds Schindler’s arc from a greedy, opportunistic war profiteer into a fervent savior. Spielberg provides an immersive feeling inside the grueling suffocation of the Kraków Ghetto and Plaszów concentration camp. Through mesmerizing visual storytelling, Spielberg and cinematographer Janusz Kamiński opt for black-and-white, only to introduce profound flashes of red that evoke a haunting, effective feeling.

‘The Dark Knight’ (2008) – 2 Hours and 32 Minutes

Image via Warner Bros. Pictures

The superhero genre was forever redefined thanks to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. In the second film in the trilogy, Batman (Christian Bale), Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and DA Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) work together to stop organized crime in Gotham City as the city is plunged into pure chaos by the Joker (Heath Ledger), whose mission is simple: prove that regular people and heroes can be corrupted and turned to violent chaos.

A wonderfully refreshing take on the classic hero-and-villain dynamic, The Dark Knight is a full-tilt thriller that wastes no time in its 152-minute run. The narrative moves swiftly, leaving audiences on edge as Batman and his allies are always a step behind the criminal mastermind. While it is still an action film, most of the time is spent enriching its psychological depth, allowing both Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent to undergo parallel, tragic transformations from heroes into symbols of a broken Gotham. The Dark Knight is also a showcase of the late Ledger at his very finest.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ (2003) – 3 Hours and 21 Minutes

Whether you choose to watch the original theatrical release or the four-hour director’s cut, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is a true fantasy epic. The third part of the trilogychronicles the final confrontation in Middle-earth as Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) and Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin) approach Mount Doom to destroy the One Ring, while Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) leads the free peoples against Sauron’s armies.

Though it might be difficult to call it a standalone film, in the larger scope of the trilogy, The Return of the King does a phenomenal job of resolving multiple massive storylines. The extended wrap-ups provide crucial closure following long years of war, alongside some much-needed moments of levity and reflection. Like its predecessors, the film is a viscerally extraordinary visual and narrative masterpiece. Earning 11 Academy Awards, The Return of the King earned its status as a landmark cinematic achievement.

Gollum

You carry something heavy — and you carry it alone, even when you don’t have to. You were not born for greatness, and that is precisely why greatness chose you. Your courage is not the roaring, sword-swinging kind; it is quiet, stubborn, and terrifying in its refusal to quit. The Ring weighs on you more than anyone can see, and still you walk toward the fire. That is not weakness. That is the rarest kind of strength there is.

You are, without question, the best of them. Not the most powerful, not the most celebrated — but the most essential. Your loyalty is not a trait; it is a force of nature. You would carry the person you love up the slopes of Mount Doom if it came to that, and we both know you’d do it without being asked. The world needs more people like you, and the world is lucky it has even one.

You were born to lead, and you have spent years running from it. The crown is yours by right, but you know better than anyone that right means nothing without the will and the worthiness to back it up. You are tempered by loss, shaped by long roads, and defined by a code of honour you hold to even when no one is watching. When you finally step forward, the world shifts. Because it was always waiting for you.

You have seen more than you let on, and you say less than you know — which is exactly as it should be. You are a catalyst: you do not fight the battles yourself, you ignite the people who can. Your wisdom comes not from books but from an age of watching what happens when it is ignored. You arrive precisely when you mean to, and your presence alone changes what is possible. A wizard is never late.

Graceful, perceptive, and almost preternaturally calm under pressure — you see things others miss and act before others react. You do not need to make a scene to be remarkable; your presence speaks for itself. You are loyal to those you choose to stand beside, and that choice is not made lightly. You have lived long enough to know that the most beautiful things in this world are also the most fragile, and that is why you fight to protect them.

You are loud, proud, and absolutely formidable — and beneath all of that is one of the most fiercely loyal hearts in Middle-earth. You don’t do anything by half measures. Your friendships are forged like iron, your grudges run as deep as mines, and your courage in battle is the kind that makes legends. You came into this fellowship suspicious of everyone and ended it willing to die for an elf. That is not a small thing. That is everything.

You think in centuries and act in absolutes. Order, dominion, control — not because you are cruel by nature, but because you have decided that the world left to itself always falls apart, and you are the only one with the vision and the will to hold it together. You were not always this. Something was lost, or taken, or betrayed, and the version of you that stands now is the answer to that wound. The tragedy is that you’re not entirely wrong — just entirely too far gone to course-correct.

You are a study in contradiction — pitiable and dangerous, cunning and broken, capable of both cruelty and something that once resembled love. You are defined by loss: of innocence, of self, of the one thing that gave your existence meaning. Two voices war inside you constantly, and the tragedy is that the better one sometimes wins, just not often enough, and never at the right moment. You are a warning, yes — but also a mirror. We are all a little Gollum, given the right ring and enough time.

‘The Shawshank Redemption’ (1994) – 2 Hours and 22 Minutes

Tim Robbins under the rain in The Shawshank Redemption Image via Columbia Pictures
Advertisement

One of the great adaptations of a Stephen King work, The Shawshank Redemption features one of the most satisfying conclusions in cinema history. The story follows a banker named Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) who spends nearly two decades in a harsh prison after a wrongful murder conviction. Inside the prison walls, he befriends Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding (Morgan Freeman), uses his banking skills to help the corrupt warden (Bob Gunton) and guards launder money and handle finances, and carefully plots his escape.

Every minute of the 142-minute drama is utilized precisely. With a deliberately paced story, writer and director Frank Darabont ensures that an enduring bond between Andy and Red develops, so that the climax is well-earned. The long-spanning story requires a longer run so as not to rush the important beats and erosion of emotional moments. The film depicts the tragic psychological impact of long-term imprisonment, giving the audience the chance to feel life behind the walls. By the end of the film, Andy’s journey becomes warranted and truly triumphant.

‘The Sound of Music’ (1965) – 2 Hours and 54 Minutes

The hills are truly alive with The Sound of Music. Based on the Broadway musical, Robert Wise directs the film about a young nun, Maria (Julie Andrews), who becomes a governess for seven children of the stern Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), bringing music into their lives as they escape Nazi-occupied Austria.

Without a wasted minute, The Sound of Music fulfills the necessary beats from the stage show while profoundly crafting its own identity, largely due to the astonishing performance of its star. Andrews is simply divine, carrying the story through song, heart, and emotional resonance. The extended runtime furthers the secondary stories, which are necessary for the historical background and the looming threat the protagonists are fighting against. The Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II score is vividly brought to life, and pairing it with the vast Austrian Alps and Salzburg architecture provides a truly remarkable viewing experience.

‘Titanic’ (1997) – 3 Hours and 14 Minutes

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic Image via Paramount Pictures
Advertisement

The James Cameron epic film operates in two parts, beginning with a forbidden romance between an upper-class young woman, Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), who feels trapped by her wealthy, abusive fiancé. She meets Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), a poor, free-spirited artist, in third class. As they fall in love, the ship of dreams strikes an iceberg during its transatlantic voyage, leading to a heartbreaking conclusion.

If you’re a child who grew up in the ‘90s, you most certainly are aware of the Titanic 2-VHS box set. You may have even made jokes at its expense for its runtime. Now, looking back, we savor those three-plus hours for giving us a beautiful romance before tragedy strikes. Cameron uses the first act to establish the vessel’s luxury, class divides, and grand scale before making the Titanic the main character. Without its bold framing device, Titanic wouldn’t be as incredible as it is.

‘Wicked’ (2024) – 2 Hours and 40 Minutes

Theater lovers finally had their wish fulfilled when Wicked was adapted for the big screen. Director Jon M. Chu split the musical into two parts to allow the full story to take shape. The first part of the story, acting as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, depicts how Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) became the Wicked Witch of the West and Galinda (Ariana Grande) became Glinda the Good.

Through themes of government corruption, discrimination, and the ways propaganda shapes public perception, the film explores what it means to truly be “wicked.” Based on Gregory Maguire‘s novel, Wicked has the freedom to dive deeper into the relationships that the stage show has thanks to the expanded runtime. Further, it gives Chu the chance to do extensive visual worldbuilding through beautiful landscape shots and extravagant musical numbers. Fans were enthralled that no song from Wicked‘s first act was cut, ensuring the musical vision remained intact.

Capitalizing on the public’s obsession with true-crime thrillers, David Fincher did the unthinkable in the haunting thriller Zodiac. The film follows the grueling manhunt for the real-life Zodiac Killer in Northern California. As the killer begins to send the San Francisco Chronicle cryptic letters and blood-stained items, demanding they be printed to prevent further murders, San Francisco Police Inspectors Dave Toschi (Mark Ruffalo) and Bill Armstrong (Anthony Edwards) hit endless dead ends as crime reporter Paul Avery (Robert Downey Jr.) and political cartoonist Robert Graysmith (Jake Gyllenhaal) begin independently connecting the clues.

Running just over two and a half hours, Zodiac‘s long pacing masterfully reflects the exhaustion of the endless investigation. Each moment is filled with crucial evidence, false leads, and rich character building. Rather than heading fully into the murders, Fincher showcases how the obsession with resolution destroyed careers, relationships, and the sanity of those involved, forcing the audience to sit through the trauma of the unsolved case and providing a realistically chilling experience.

Lionel Richie Refuses To Slow Down As Family Fears Grow

Published

Lionel Richie at The Princes Trust Gala in New York

The applause may still be loud, but behind the scenes, those closest to Lionel Richie are reportedly becoming increasingly concerned about the pace of his life.

The music icon has spent decades performing, touring, recording, and building one of entertainment’s most enduring careers.

Yet recent health scares have sparked fresh questions about whether the 77-year-old superstar is pushing himself too hard. According to insiders, however, convincing Richie to slow down may be impossible, no matter how worried his family becomes.

For many artists approaching their eighth decade, retirement would seem like a natural next step. However, according to insiders, Lionel Richie has no interest in that conversation.

Sources close to the singer claim he remains deeply attached to the career that transformed him from a member of the Commodores into one of the most successful solo artists of all time.

Even after decades of hit records, sold-out tours, Grammy Awards, an Oscar, and his role in co-writing “We Are the World,” Richie reportedly still thrives on the excitement of performing and staying in the public eye.

“Lionel likes to stay busy, he can’t sit still, and loves his career momentum,” one source told the Daily Mail.

Insiders insist money is not the driving force behind his relentless schedule. Instead, they claim Richie simply loves working and being connected to audiences.

One source put it bluntly, “He puts his health at risk to work super hard even though he is 77 – work is like an addiction for him and he refuses to retire.”

According to the same insider, “He has tons of money, he is worth over $200 million, so that’s not the problem. The issue is he loves being popular, in the news.”

While Lionel Richie may be determined to keep moving forward, insiders say his children are viewing things very differently.

According to sources, Nicole, Sofia, and Miles have become increasingly worried following a series of alarming medical episodes involving their father.

One insider claimed the siblings are “crazy scared they could lose him” and fear he could be dealing with serious heart-related issues.

The concern has reportedly changed family dynamics in unexpected ways. Nicole and Sofia are said to have become especially protective, with one source describing them as being “like moms to him” as they encourage their father to prioritize his health.

Despite juggling careers, businesses, and young families of their own, both daughters reportedly continue making time to check on Richie and assist whenever needed.

Sources say Miles shares those same concerns, with all three siblings struggling to imagine life without the man they consider the family’s foundation.

As The Blast reported, one incident occurred during a concert in June when the singer suddenly stopped performing after telling the audience he felt “dizzy.”

The show was ultimately cut short, and fans later learned he had been taken to a hospital. Then, just weeks later, fresh concern emerged when Richie appeared to struggle physically during a performance in St. Louis.

He was later admitted to intensive care, where he underwent testing for cardiac-related issues and spent four days hospitalized.

Although insiders say Richie has since returned home and is “feeling OK” while remaining in his “usual jovial mood,” the incidents reportedly reinforced concerns about the workload he continues to maintain.

Beyond his current tour commitments, Richie has also served as a judge on “American Idol” for years, a role he has held since ABC revived the series in 2018. Sources claim even longtime colleague Luke Bryan has urged him to ease up.

“Luke has been calling often to check on him and telling him to take a break,” one insider stated, adding, “Luke is a very grounded guy and has reminded Lionel that family, not work, comes first.”

Richie Prepares For Major Tour Return With Busy Fall Schedule

As concerns about Lionel Richie’s health continue to make headlines, the legend himself appears focused on something entirely different: getting back in front of audiences.

The next phase of the Sing A Song All Night Long tour remains firmly on the calendar, with Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire preparing for a string of high-profile dates throughout September and October.

According to Richie’s official schedule, the tour resumes with a September 26 stop at San Francisco’s Chase Center before continuing to Chicago, Columbus, and several other cities.

The performance has become a major talking point among fans because it will mark the duo’s return to the Bay Area after the original August date was unexpectedly postponed.

Tickets purchased for the original concert will still be honored, while fans unable to attend the new date have been offered refund options through the venue.

Richie is also slated to return to Las Vegas for another run of his King of Hearts residency at Encore Theater in October.

Lionel Richie Takes Aim At Usher And Chris Brown’s Tour

As Lionel Richie prepares for the next leg of his Sing A Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, one of the musician’s most talked-about moments in recent weeks had nothing to do with his own concerts.

During a stop in Phoenix in August, Richie addressed the buzz surrounding Usher and Chris Brown’s massively successful co-headlining R&B Tour and used the opportunity to draw a comparison with an earlier era of touring.

Speaking to the crowd, Richie pointed out that collaborative tours between major R&B stars were hardly a new concept.

Referencing his years with the Commodores and the touring landscape of previous decades, he joked, per PEOPLE, “Usher and Chris Brown, see, they trying to do something new! We were doing that forty years ago.”

He then delivered the line that quickly spread across social media and entertainment headlines: “Only difference is, between then and now, we didn’t go to jail!”

The comment immediately drew attention because of Chris Brown’s well-documented legal history. However, Richie quickly softened the moment, adding, “We’re fine Christian men. Fine Christian men, that’s right.” The crowd laughed, but the remark became one of the most discussed celebrity comments of the week.

The story did not end there. Brown later responded publicly on social media rather than escalating the situation. In a lighthearted reply, he wrote, “Damn unk. We love you paw paw.”

A few days ago, Deschanel stepped out with fiancée and Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott for a walk. The actress wore a simple black top, Oxford-style sneakers, and wide-leg pull-on pants with a soft, relaxed appeal. The pair was effortlessly polished, just like this luxe-looking twin.

Better yet, the pull-on elastic waistband means no buttons or zippers to fuss with. One thrilled shopper put it perfectly: “I can’t wear jeans or leggings in the summer and was looking for something light and comfortable. I found it.”

Another five-star fan confessed, “If I like something, I buy it in every color imaginable. I’ve purchased almost every color available. They’re the perfect linen pants that can be dressed up or down effortlessly.”

This weekend, the historical crime thriller By Any Means becomes the latest to try to dethrone Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, following his previous 2026 roles in Wonder Man and Man on Fire, By Any Means follows the unlikely partnership of a young Black FBI agent and a notorious mafia hitman turned informant (Mark Wahlberg). Wahlberg hasn’t had much success at the box office in recent years, so Brand New Day is expected to continue its all-conquering run. With the box office taken care of, here’s a look at three movies you should stream this weekend on Netflix.

Camp Crystal Lake · Friday the 13th

Jason Voorhees

Jason is relentless, but he is also predictable — and that is the gap you would exploit.

  • He moves in straight lines toward his target. He doesn’t strategise, doesn’t adapt, doesn’t outsmart. He simply pursues.
  • Your ability to keep moving, use the environment, and resist the panic that freezes most victims gives you a genuine edge.
  • The Crystal Lake survivors were always the ones who stopped running in circles and started thinking about terrain, water, and distance.
  • You think like that. Which means Jason, for all his indestructibility, would face someone who simply refused to be where he expected.

Haddonfield, Illinois · Halloween

Michael Myers

Michael watches before he moves. He is patient, methodical, and almost impossible to detect — until it’s too late for anyone who isn’t paying close enough attention.

  • But you are paying attention. You notice the shape in the window, the car parked slightly wrong, the silence where there should be sound.
  • Michael’s power lies in the invisibility of ordinary suburbia — the fact that nothing ever looks wrong until it already is.
  • Your spatial awareness and instinct to map every room, every exit, and every shadow before you need them is precisely the quality Laurie Strode had.
  • You are not a victim waiting to happen. You are someone who already suspects something is wrong — and acts on it.

Elm Street · A Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy Krueger

Freddy wins by getting inside your head — using your own fears, your own memories, your own subconscious as weapons against you. That strategy requires a target who can be destabilised.

  • You are harder to destabilise than most. You’ve faced uncomfortable truths about yourself and you haven’t looked away.
  • The survivors on Elm Street were always the ones who understood what was happening and chose to face it rather than flee from it.
  • Freddy’s greatest weakness is that his power evaporates in the presence of someone who refuses to give him the fear he feeds on.
  • Your psychological resilience — the ability to stay grounded when reality itself becomes unreliable — is exactly the quality that keeps you alive here.

Derry, Maine · It

Pennywise

Pennywise is ancient, shapeshifting, and feeds on terror — but it has one critical vulnerability: it cannot function against someone who genuinely stops being afraid of it.

  • The Losers Club didn’t survive because they were braver than everyone else. They survived because they faced their fears together, and faced them honestly.
  • You ask the questions others avoid. You look directly at what frightens you rather than turning away.
  • That directness — the refusal to let fear fester in the dark — is Pennywise’s worst nightmare.
  • It chose the wrong target when it chose you. You are exactly the kind of person whose fear tastes like nothing at all.

Chicago · Child’s Play

Chucky

Chucky’s greatest advantage is that nobody takes him seriously until it’s already too late. He exploits the gap between how something looks and what it actually is.

  • You don’t have that gap. You take threats seriously regardless of how they present — and you never make the mistake of underestimating something because of its size or appearance.
  • Chucky relies on surprise, on the delay between recognition and response. You close that delay faster than almost anyone.
  • Your instinct to treat every unfamiliar thing with appropriate scepticism — rather than dismissing it because it seems absurd — is the exact quality that keeps you breathing.
  • Against Chucky, not laughing is already winning. You are very good at not laughing.

‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Sequel Gets Official Update From ‘The Witcher’s Creative Studio

Published

on

Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077

Everyone in the world is talking about Rockstar Games right now as fans everywhere prepare for the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, but there’s another studio crushing it behind-the-scenes. Best known for developing the Game of the Year-winning RPG, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red is carving out a name for itself as one of the most bankable game studios in the world. There was quite a stumble for CD Projekt Red at the end of 2020 with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, but the troubled launch has since been redeemed with dozens of quality-of-life updates and even a massive DLC, Phantom Liberty, which brought Idris Elba to Night City. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that a sequel to Cyberpunk is officially in the works, but updates about the game have been eerily quiet in the last few years.

Right now, the vast majority of CD Projekt Red employees are focused on the launch of The Witcher 4, which will shift Geralt of Rivia to a side character while putting his protege Ciri in the spotlight. The studio recently confirmed that the game won’t be released before 2028, but they’re playing it extra safe after the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. After hearing enough questions, though, CD Projekt Red took to its official X account to share an update on several of its projects in development, announcing exactly how many employees were working on each project. As of July 31, over 500 employees are chopping away at development on The Witcher 4, but there are also 184 employees working on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. This is up from 163 total employees working on the game in April.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

What Does This Mean For ‘Cyberpunk 2’?

This is exciting news for fans anxiously awaiting the next Cyberpunk game, but there’s no reason to get overly carried away. With The Witcher 4 not even being released next year, this means the potential release of Cyberpunk 2 is at least 4–5 years away, possibly even more. It’s even possible that Cyberpunk 2 could be a next-generation title for PlayStation 6 and the next XBOX. While it’s good to know the game is deep in development, it’s still unlikely to be released before 2030, if we’re sticking to a realistic timeline. No plot details about the sequel have been released at the time of writing.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of both The Witcher 4 and the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

Jim Thornton’s ‘Wheel’ Scandal Deepens After New Photos

Jim Thornton's 'Wheel' Scandal Deepens After New Photos

The mystery surrounding Jim Thornton’s sudden suspension from “Wheel of Fortune” has taken a dramatic turn after newly surfaced photographs shed light on the incident that reportedly triggered Sony’s investigation.

For days, questions swirled about what happened aboard an American Airlines flight that ultimately led to the longtime announcer being removed from the show.

Now, images obtained have provided the clearest look yet at the online activity that sparked complaints from a fellow passenger and set off a chain of events that continues to rock the beloved game show.

The controversy centers on photographs allegedly taken during a May flight showing Thornton seated with a laptop open in front of him.

The images obtained by TMZ, which reportedly show the “Wheel of Fortune” announcer wearing a show-branded jacket, captured messages from a chatroom that immediately raised alarm.

According to the photos, participants in the conversation made references to children, including one message describing a restaurant as “a nice hangout for kids” with “a couple of cute boys and a hot little girl.”

Another message read, “All-you-can-eat Boyffet.” A separate reference to “CP” led the passenger who documented the screen to believe it was a reference to child pornography.

The timestamps on the photographs suggested Thornton remained on the site for nearly an hour, a detail that quickly fueled scrutiny after the images emerged.

Thornton Denies Any Criminal Conduct

As questions mounted, Thornton’s attorney, Allison Hart, pushed back strongly against any suggestion of wrongdoing.

According to Hart, the veteran announcer accidentally ended up in the chatroom while pursuing work related to suicide-prevention advocacy, a cause he became involved with after losing a close family member to suicide two years ago.

Hart explained that Thornton regularly visited 988lifeline.org and its related support forum, and that an acquaintance allegedly directed him to a different website, lifeline.chat. Thornton maintained he did not realize the nature of the site when he entered and left after discovering its purpose.

The attorney stressed that the website in question was legal and stated that “there is no unlawful child pornography or other pedophilic content, and my client never viewed, downloaded or consumed any child pornography whether on that commercial flight in May or at any other time.”

Hart also emphasized that Thornton “did not engage in any illegal conduct, was not arrested, and has not been charged with any crime.”

She further claimed that after speaking with Thornton for only a few minutes, authorities “immediately determined that no wrongdoing had occurred and told my client he was free to go.”

‘Wheel Of Fortune’ Producers Face Massive Editing Challenge Before Season 44 Premiere

As Sony weighed Thornton’s future, producers were simultaneously forced to confront a practical problem: a significant portion of Season 44 had already been completed before the suspension became public.

The Blast reported that roughly a month’s worth of episodes had been taped ahead of the September 14 premiere, leaving the production team with little time to react once the investigation began.

Sources described the effort to remove Thornton’s voice from upcoming broadcasts as a “major undertaking.” Unlike many behind-the-scenes roles, the announcer’s voice is embedded throughout every episode, from contestant introductions and prize descriptions to recurring promotional segments.

Replacing those elements required extensive post-production work on episodes that had already been finalized.

More From The Blast

‘Wheel Of Fortune’s Longest-Serving Modern Announcer Faces Career Crisis

The uncertainty surrounding Thornton’s future has cast a shadow over a tenure that spans more than a decade at one of television’s most recognizable game shows.

Long before the current controversy, Thornton built a reputation as the voice of “Wheel of Fortune” after being selected in 2011 to succeed legendary announcer Charlie O’Donnell.

Over the years, he became a constant presence through major changes, including Pat Sajak’s retirement and Ryan Seacrest’s arrival as host.

His work on the franchise extended beyond the syndicated version of the show. Thornton also served as announcer for “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” and occasionally stepped into the spotlight himself.

In one memorable 2023 episode, he even swapped places with Sajak during a bonus round after a contestant expressed excitement about meeting him in person.

Now, however, Thornton’s future with the franchise remains unclear. Sony has confirmed that it is recasting while its investigation proceeds, but the company has not indicated whether the move is temporary or permanent.

‘Wheel Of Fortune’ Introduces Major Season 44 Gameplay Shake-Up

Even as “Wheel of Fortune” continues navigating headlines off-screen, one of the biggest developments surrounding the show itself has nothing to do with controversy.

According to The Sun, producers are rolling out a significant gameplay change for Season 44, marking one of the most notable format adjustments in recent years. The long-running game show will reportedly replace its traditional opening toss-up sequence with a brand-new round called the Toss-Up Sprint.

Under the new format, contestants will have 30 seconds to solve as many toss-up puzzles as possible. Each puzzle is worth $1,000, and players are allowed only one guess per puzzle. If a contestant answers correctly, they earn the money and move on to the next puzzle.

If they answer incorrectly, the solution is immediately revealed and a new puzzle appears without any penalty. The clock continues running throughout the entire round. Audience members who attended tapings reported that contestants typically encounter five or six puzzles during the sprint.

The change also affects the structure of the episode. Instead of stopping for contestant introductions after the opening toss-ups, the show will move directly into the first standard puzzle round. The player who solves the final toss-up in the sprint will gain control of that opening round. Contestant introductions will now take place later in the episode.

Mackenzie Shirilla Loses Attempt to Appeal Conviction in Ohio

How Many Years Will Mackenzie Shirilla Be in Prison? Her Sentence After Fatal Car Crash

Mackenzie Shirilla has lost her final attempt to appeal her 2023 double murder conviction at a state level.

The Ohio Supreme Court‘s Chief Justice, Sharon L. Kennedy, declined to reconsider Shirilla’s appeal on Tuesday, September 1, after the court rejected a previous bid from her lawyers in June, per court documents obtained by Us. (Columbus, Ohio’s Fox 8 was the first to report the ruling.)

“It is ordered by the court that the motion for reconsideration in this case is denied,” Chief Justice Kennedy wrote in her ruling.

Us has reached out to Shirilla’s attorneys for comment.

How Many Years Will Mackenzie Shirilla Be in Prison? Her Sentence After Fatal Car Crash

Related: How Many Years Will Mackenzie Shirilla Be in Prison? Sentence Details

Mackenzie Shirilla became the subject of national attention after a fatal July 2022 car crash in Strongsville, Ohio, killed her boyfriend and their close friend — and her story has only intensified in the wake of Netflix’s documentary The Crash. As viewers process the chilling details of the case, many are asking the same question: […]

The Netflix true-crime documentary The Crash explored her July 2022 car crash in Strongsville, Ohio, in which Shirilla, now 21, allegedly drove her Toyota Camry into a brick building after accelerating her car to 100 mph. Investigators later discovered that she never pushed the brake before impact.

Shirilla’s two passengers — her on-off boyfriend Dominic Russo and classmate Davion Flanagan — were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash while she suffered serious injuries. The documentary raised questions over whether Shirilla may have intentionally driven into a wall due to relationship problems with Russo.

Shirilla was convicted during a 2023 bench trial of 12 felony charges, including murder, and ordered to serve two concurrent sentences of 15 years to life imprisonment. Shirilla has always maintained her innocence.

Since her conviction, Shirilla has hired new lawyers and shaped her appeal around a theory that she had a pre-existing medical condition known as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) that may have caused her to black out behind the wheel.

Her current legal team has argued that Shirilla’s previous lawyers did not adequately explore a possible medical defense, nor did they secure any expert testimony. They also offered an alternate theory of why Shirilla may have been in the vicinity of the crash site on the night of the deadly incident.

“The prosecution theorized that the location was intended to be private in order for Shirilla to crash the vehicle without immediate attention,” her lawyers wrote in her appeal. “But the defense had evidence that a local grocer had left a package of produce for Shirilla at a 24-hour pickup spot at a store located in the vicinity of the crash scene.”

Mackenzie Shirilla Loses Final Attempt to Appeal Murder Conviction in Ohio After New Ruling

An appeal filed in 2024 was initially dismissed as untimely since Shirilla filed it on October 24, 2024 — a single day after the statutory one-year deadline expired. Her lawyers argued that there was a mix-up on the calendar since 2024 was a leap year.

Her appeal was eventually denied twice in Cuyahoga County Court and once in the Eighth District Court of Appeals before it finally landed in the Ohio Supreme Court in June. At that time, the Supreme Court upheld the lower courts’ decision to deny consideration.

Shirilla’s legal fight is not over after her legal setback, as Us confirmed on July 29 that her attorneys filed a writ of habeas corpus in federal court, arguing that her rights were violated in her original bench trial because key evidence in her defense was excluded from consideration.

For now, Shirilla remains behind bars at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville where she continues to serve two concurrent sentences of 15 years to life. She will be eligible for parole in 2037, per state prison records.

Everything to Know About RHOSLC Alum Jen Shah's Legal Drama

Hilaria Baldwin and husband Alec Baldwin accidentally shared a twinning moment with their outfit of the day.

“He’s concerned about the fit of my pants. I’m concerned that we accidentally coordinated 😂,” Hilaria, 42, wrote alongside an Instagram Reel shared on Thursday, September 3. “The odd couple has officially started dressing alike.”

In the clip, Hilaria stood in front of a mirror to show off her maroon top and black trousers. Alec, 68, then could be heard as he attempted to fix her pants.

“I don’t like the way it is here cause your butt is so nice,” the actor said as he adjusted his wife’s bottoms.
