After Season 1 focused on Jeffrey Dahmer, Season 2 on the Menendez brothers, and Season 3 on Ed Gein, the prolific Ryan Murphy added a new season to his controversial Monster anthology series last week, and it has, unsurprisingly, shot straight to the streaming summit. Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, starring If I Had Legs I’d Kick You‘s Ella Beatty, is already making headlines for both the right and wrong reasons, proving beyond doubt that Murphy’s impact on our streaming habits cannot be understated. Party Down, created by John Enbom, Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge, and the MCU’s Paul Rudd, follows a group of wannabe actors who move to Los Angeles and find themselves working as caterers to try to make a living.

Effortlessly funny, this undeniable gem should’ve been much more popular with audiences and critics than it was. The likes of Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan, Ken Marino, Jane Lynch, and many more exciting names bless this three-season series with some of their most underrated work, with 26 episodes currently available for your viewing pleasure.

‘Doc’ (2025–Present)

From The Pitt to Grey’s Anatomy, we simply can’t get enough of medical dramas. Hospitals provide the perfect canvas on which writers can paint the most gripping storylines, as is certainly evident in Fox’s medical drama Doc, which is currently available on Netflix. The series follows Molly Parker as Dr. Amy Larsen, the Chief of Internal Medicine at the fictional Westside Hospital, as a tragic incident causes her to lose eight years of memory.

Based on the Italian series, Doc —Nelle Tue Mani, this might not be as acclaimed as The Pitt or boast as strong a fanbase as Grey’s Anatomy, but there’s plenty to enjoy about a visit to Doc. Parker is superb as Dr. Amy, joined by a stacked cast that includes Omar Metwally (Michael Hamda), Amirah Vann (Gina Walker), Jon Ecker (Jake Heller), Anya Banerjee (Sonya Maitra), Scott Wolf (Richard Miller), and Patrick J. Walker (TJ Coleman). Earlier this week, the second season finally made its way to Netflix, makig now the perfect time to dive in.

‘A Different World’ (2026)

Netflix loves a sitcom revival, and this week, the streamer’s newest made its debut. Based on the NBC sitcom of the same name, A Different World follows Deborah Wayne (Maleah Joi Moon), the youngest daughter of Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy), as she enters her freshman year at Hillman College and looks to escape her parents’ shadow.

Premiering earlier this week, exactly 39 years from the original series release date, A Different World threatens to fall under the radar of many on Netflix this weekend, so don’t let that be you. Featuring 10 episodes in total, showrunner Felicia Pride‘s revival will hope to take the groundbreaking work that came before and transform it for a new audience, with original series director Debbie Allen returning behind the camera for the premiere outing.

Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for Lanterns Episode 6.

The latest episode of Lanterns, “Bad Optics,” finally brought the series into the broader DCU. Some of the references were brief, like the mention of “a bat guy” in Gotham and “a giant starfish,” confirming that the events of The Suicide Squad still take place in this universe. The biggest connection, though, was the appearance of Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion). Superman featured Gardner as the current Green Lantern, with most of Lanterns showcasing the events that led to Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) vacating the position and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) outright rejecting it. “Bad Optics” features another major Superman connection that fans might have missed.

During “Bad Optics,” Stewart contacts Gardner and asks him to retrieve Jordan’s Green Lantern ring so he can bury Jordan, who’s seemingly dead, in his uniform. Gardner refuses, as the ring is locked on Oa and grabbing it would alert the Guardians of the Universe; it isn’t until Stewart goads him that he reluctantly agrees. After securing the ring, Gardner says that if the Guardians found out what he did he’d be “on the first beam to the Phantom Zone.” The Phantom Zone is arguably one of the most terrifying concepts in the Superman mythos, and its confirmation hints at villains who could challenge the Man of Steel.

The Phantom Zone Contains Some of Superman’s Deadliest Foes

First appearing in Adventure Comics #283, the Phantom Zone is an alternate dimension where time loses all meaning; anyone who enters the Zone also becomes a psychic “phantom,” forced to roam its expanses for what seems like eternity. Superman’s biological father, Jor-El, used this realm as a prison for Krypton’s worst criminals, building a projector that could beam anyone into the Zone. It remains to be seen how the Guardians of the Universe can access the Zone, but Gardner’s knowledge of it continues to cement him as one of the DCU’s biggest players, as Nathan Fillion pointed out in a Variety interview.

“It’s nice that there’s a bunch of us witnessing the birth of the DC Universe that’s being thrown at us in these pieces, and Guy Gardner is becoming a thread in the backdrop. He’s a very public part. I think that says a lot about who he is.”

The confirmation of the Phantom Zone also hints that it’s home to one of Superman’s deadliest enemies, General Zod. Zod was sent to the Zone after an attempted coup on Krypton, and often escapes to take vengeance on Superman, as Jor-El was both his former friend and the man who sentenced him. Zod isn’t the only threat locked within the Phantom Zone, as Superman’s faced off against foes like the mad scientist Jax-Ur and even Doomsday, the monstrous creature who killed the Man of Steel. If James Gunn winds up making more Superman movies in the DCU, the Phantom Zone could make for an excellent set piece.

Another DCU Project Almost Featured the Phantom Zone

While the Phantom Zone is mentioned in Lanterns, it was almost referenced in another DCU movie. A deleted scene from Supergirl has Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock) and Ruthye (Eve Ridley) discussing the fate of Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts). While Ruthye still wants vengeance on Krem for killing her family, Kara says that she’ll make sure he’s sent to the Phantom Zone for life. This mirrors the original ending of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Elvey, where Krem was sent to the Phantom Zone. King currently serves as a writer and producer on Lanterns, so he may have folded in the reference to the Zone after it didn’t appear in Supergirl.

Lanterns is gaining critical acclaim for balancing the fantastic elements of the Green Lantern comics with a gritty crime thriller, and the reference to the Phantom Zone is a perfect example of that. Now all that’s left is for the Zone to make a proper appearance in the DCU.

Miranda Kerr is sharing a candid insight into how tough her split from Orlando Bloom was for her mental health.

Speaking on “The Jess Rowe Big Talk Show” podcast on Thursday, September 24, Kerr, 43, explained how going through the divorce was one of her toughest challenges. (Kerr and Bloom married in July 2010 and welcomed their son Flynn in January 2011. The pair announced their separation in October 2013.)

“Obviously my public divorce, separation with Orlando, that was something that was another challenging time,” Kerr explained to host Jessica Rowe, adding, “After we separated, I went through a little bit of like, depression.”

The Victoria’s Secret model continued, “And it was so odd for me because I’m a naturally joyful person. And like my mother would call me Giggly Gertrude. Like that was my name, my nickname as a kid because it was always very joyful and giggly.”

The Kora Organics founder said she hoped that she and Bloom can be a good example for other parents who are grappling with coparenting after calling it quits. “We can hopefully encourage other people to do the same and to put the children first and not your own hurt,” she said.

To help heal and move on from her relationship breakdown, Kerr noted that she embraced meditation and yoga and turned inwards.

“This is a decision that we both mutually agreed was good for us. I understand logistically, but my body isn’t catching up to my mind that understands, right?” Kerr explained. “So there was some kind of disconnect that was happening and I and I just felt like I wasn’t the best version of myself.”

She continued, “I felt like my body had to move through the waves of feelings that would come up out of nowhere and it was processing and it was really just me giving myself the time to process and instead of trying to fix it like automatically, it was time to feel the feelings.”

“It was time to forgive and release. It was time to be patient with myself and not feel like I had to have it all together and had to have it all perfect because I didn’t,” she said.

Kerr noted that another thing that helped her was “being truthful with yourself and saying, you know what, this is hard and I’m having a hard time and I don’t really know the way out, but I’m just going to take it day by day and try.”

The recent success of Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil appears to be inspiring audiences to revisit the original Resident Evil movie franchise, headlined by Milla Jovovich. It also seems to be rubbing off on other fantasy horror movies of that era, such as the Underworld series, the forgotten vampire movie Priest, and another movie that was released in 2010. Like Priest, it was directed by Scott Stewart and headlined by MCU alum Paul Bettany. However, while Priest was a box-office underperformer, its predecessor was a modest hit. It’s now among the most-watched titles on the domestic Tubi chart, according to FlixPatrol.

A mashup of the cult classic comic book adaptation Constantine and the blockbuster John Wick franchise, both starring Keanu Reeves, the movie follows a fallen angel who must protect the Second Coming of Christ. The film also featured Tyrese Gibson, Kevin Durand, and Dennis Quaid. It grossed nearly $70 million worldwide against a reported budget of $26 million, which perhaps encouraged Sony, Screen Gems, and Bettany to regroup for another original movie directed by Stewart. Produced on a much higher reported budget of $60 million, Priest wasn’t as successful as its predecessor, grossing approximately $78 million worldwide.

‘Legion’ Received Poor Reviews

Neither movie received positive reviews, but we’re talking about Legion. It now holds a 20% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads, “Despite a solid cast and intermittent thrills, Legion suffers from a curiously languid pace, confused plot, and an excess of dialogue.” Ahead of Bettany’s return as Vision in the MCU series VisionQuest this October, Legion is witnessing a resurgence on Tubi. Meanwhile, there has been growing chatter about a Constantine sequel with Reeves, primarily due to the cult following that the original movie has garnered over the years. Reeves’ return as John Wick for a fifth film, on the other hand, has been confirmed. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.

A lot of ink has been spilled about the erosion of the ‘monoculture’, meaning that it’s becoming increasingly rare for millions of people to enjoy the same books and movies. Thanks to social media and algorithms tailored to our specific tastes, we seem to be splitting off into our silos.

That said, a handful of books have nevertheless managed to break through and find broad appeal, even if they are not as ubiquitous as the literary hits of earlier decades. Without further ado, here are a few of the most widely loved books from the last few years.

‘Lessons in Chemistry’ (2022)

“Chemistry is change.” Lessons in Chemistry sold over 8 million copies and also quickly spawned a TV show starring Brie Larson. It’s about Elizabeth Zott a chemist working in the deeply sexist scientific culture of the 1950s and early 1960s, where her intelligence is repeatedly underestimated or exploited. After her career takes several painful turns, Elizabeth unexpectedly becomes the host of a television cooking program. Naturally, she refuses to behave like the cheerful domestic personality her producers imagined. Instead, Elizabeth is stubborn, deadpan, and incredibly brave.

Author Bonnie Garmus builds on that premise with romance, grief, workplace comedy, scientific curiosity, and an unusually memorable dog. This recipe resonated: Lessons in Chemistry received positive reviews, was named the Barnes & Noble Book of the Year in 2022, and was one of the most borrowed books from American public libraries in 2023.

‘Anxious People’ (2021)

“They say that a person’s personality is the sum of their experiences…” This is one of the more recent books by Swedish writer Fredrik Backman, best known for the 2012 breakout hit A Man Called Ove. Anxious People centers on a failed bank robber who accidentally takes a group of eccentric strangers hostage during an apartment open house. While the characters initially appear to be insufferable or combative, Backman slowly dismantles their outer personas through alternating police interviews and flashbacks, revealing flawed and three-dimensional human beings.

The narrative is partly structured like a classic, fast-paced comedy of errors, utilizing sharp wit, absurd dialogue, and a Rube Goldberg-like plot. However, it also seamlessly pivots into surprisingly deep ruminations on issues like grief and guilt. Not for nothing, Anxious People was a big commercial and critical hit, and has already been adapted into a Swedish TV show.

‘Piranesi’ (2020)

“The Beauty of the House is immeasurable; its Kindness infinite.” Piranesi is the latest gem from author Susanna Clark, who gave us the modern fantasy classic Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell. The title character lives largely alone in a strange, enormous house, carefully documenting the building in his journals and mapping as much of its impossible architecture as he can. As far as he knows, only one other living person regularly visits: a mysterious man Piranesi calls the Other.

Piranesi begins by refusing to explain itself. Readers know only what its narrator knows. Gradually, however, inconsistencies appear. Piranesi’s journals suggest that his understanding of his own past may be incomplete, and that the Other is concealing information. In the process, the story shifts from a poetic “cozy fantasy” into a gripping, tense psychological mystery. Not for nothing, Piranesi received rave reviews.

‘The Rose Field’ (2025)

“Everything changes. Everything stays the same.” The Rose Field concluded Philip Pullman‘s Book of Dust series, a sequel to His Dark Materials. Here he continues his decades-long investigation into consciousness, imagination, authority, love, and the mysterious substance known as Dust. The older Lyra is far removed from the fearless child readers originally met in Northern Lights. Her experiences have complicated her relationship with both herself and her dæmon Pantalaimon, and The Book of Dust has increasingly explored the consequences of that estrangement.

The Rose Field pushes those personal tensions toward their resolution while expanding the philosophical and political struggles surrounding them. Along the way, it reintroduces a sprawling, beloved ensemble cast, including spies, scholars, witches, and mythical gryphons, all while serving up both adventure and character development. A fantastic finale to a thirty-year phenomenon.

‘Demon Copperhead’ (2022)

“The wonder is that you could start life with nothing, end with nothing, and lose so much in between.” Demon Copperhead is author Barbara Kingsolver’s retelling of David Copperfield, but set in modern Appalachia. Its narrator, Damon Fields, known as Demon Copperhead, is born into poverty in rural Virginia and spends his childhood navigating addiction, neglect, foster care, exploitation, grief, and institutions that repeatedly fail the people they’re supposedly designed to help. What keeps the novel from becoming overly heavy is Demon himself.

His voice is funny, observant, angry, vulnerable, and remarkably difficult to resist, drawing comparisons to Holden Caulfield and Huck Finn. He remains sharp and witty even in the direst circumstances. The book sold over three million copies, charmed critics, made Oprah‘s Book Club, and walked away with several major awards, including the 2023 Women’s Prize for Fiction and the Pulitzer.

‘Project Hail Mary’ (2021)

“What’s the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?” This one has been back in the public consciousness this year thanks to the delightful movie adaptation. In Project Hail Mary, Ryland Grace wakes aboard a spacecraft with no memory of who he is, why he’s there, or why the other members of his crew are dead. Piece by piece, his memories return, revealing an alarming truth: Earth faces an extinction-level threat, and Grace has been sent to another star system as part of a desperate attempt to find a solution. That alone would provide enough material for an excellent survival thriller.

Then Grace meets Rocky, an intelligent extraterrestrial, and the tale becomes an unexpected buddy comedy. Author Andy Weir weaves all this into an optimistic, problem-solving-based sci-fi banger, pleasing fans and critics alike. Consequently, Project Hail Mary has spent more than 57 weeks on the NYT bestseller list.

Taylor Swift’s game day outfits are the definition of trendy and festive.

Swift started attending Kansas City Chiefs games in September 2023 amid her then-budding romance with tight end Travis Kelce. From official Chiefs gear to miniskirts and leather jackets, Swift has been supporting her beau in style. (Swift and Kelce said “I do” in July 2026.)

At the Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Chargers game on October 22, Swift was a must-see in a red crewneck featuring the team’s logo and name. The MLS’ Columbus Crew have fired reserve coach Federico Higuaín after an alleged incident with a female referee during a match on August 23.

“We determined it’s in the best interest of our Club, players and support staff to dismiss Federico Higuaín from his responsibilities,” Crew general manager Issa Tail said in a statement published Tuesday, September 22. “After conversations this week and further assessing the past month, our Club’s standards of what’s expected from a leader for one of our teams have not been met.”

Higuaín, 41, had already served a two-game suspension for the incident, which allegedly included a sexist remark and physical intimidation. He received a red card and was ejected from the match.

The decision to fire him, which came a month after the match took place, happened amid a public outcry, including a scathing statement from the Professional Soccer Referees Association.

“During a recent MLS NEXT Pro match, a male head coach committed two deliberate acts of physical abuse and sexism against a female official — squeezing her hand and refusing to let go after being told to stop three times,” read the statement, shared via X. “The physical intimidation was compounded by a demeaning, sexist remark to the official: ‘Don’t forget this is a man’s game.’”

The PSRA argued that the two-game suspension “and other non-suspension discipline” fell short of US Soccer’s own standards.

“US Soccer policy states a ‘forceful grab’ like this requires a minimum three-game suspension,” the statement read. “Acts of discrimination also require a minimum three-game suspension. MLS NEXT Pro’s own manual also states that. Coaches are held to ‘a higher professional standard than players.’”

It continued, “The League’s response falls drastically short of the right message to the participants, the referees and the public. It needs to be reevaluated.”

“Women make every level of this game better,” the PSRA concluded. “They should not have to endure intimidation or degrading. Comments to prove it. Our female officials have proven their excellence on the world state. They deserve the same respect, dignity and safe working environment as every other official.”

As a player, Higuaín spent nearly a decade in MLS, with most of that time coming as a member of the Crew. In 2012, his first season in the league, he won the MLS Newcomer of the Year Award.

A native of Argentina, Higuaín also played at the highest level of Argentine soccer, scoring 35 goals over 157 matches in the Argentine Primera División.

Law Roach is shedding light on how Zendaya feels about him speaking about her love life.

Appearing on the “Outlaws with TS Madison” podcast this week,  the celebrity stylist, 48, shared how Zendaya, 30, reacted after Roach publicly announced the actress had tied the knot with Tom Holland.

“She thought it was funny,” Roach said on the podcast. “I’m still slightly spilling the tea about the wedding. You don’t know if that lady married or not.”

Roach made headlines in March when he referenced Zendaya and Holland, 30, while speaking to Access Hollywood on the Actor Awards red carpet, claiming, “The wedding has already happened. You missed it.”

When the reporter asked for clarification as to whether the rumors that Zendaya and Holland had quietly wed following their 2024 engagement, Roach insisted, “It’s very true.”

At the Oscars the same month, Roach was questioned by Extra on the red carpet on whether he wanted to “clarify any comments” he made earlier in the month about Zendaya and Holland being married. “No,” Roach responded, before adding, “I said what I said.”

However, on September 14, Roach backtracked on his earlier comments when asked about Zendaya on the CNN & Variety Red Carpet Live: TV’s Biggest Night pre-show.

“Well, I actually lied, she wasn’t married. They actually haven’t had an official ceremony yet. It’s gonna happen after the Dune press tour,” he said.

During his “Outlaws with TS Madison” podcast appearance, Roach explained why he is making seemingly contradictory statements about Zendaya and Holland’s marriage status.

“Because the thing about it is, stop asking me about somebody who I love’s personal business,” Roach said. “You don’t have the right or the allowance or the agency to ask me questions about that lady’s personal business. So, every time you ask me, I’m going to tell your ass something different.”

Roach also complimented Zendaya, who has been a longtime client and friend of his, for letting him be himself.

“The great thing about her is that she has become one of the biggest movie stars in the world and she never ever tries to make me be something I’m not,” he said. “I go and I cut up and I do things on the carpet or whatever, and she be like, ‘Boy, you crazy.’ She never ever ever ever tries to change me.”
