Disney’s Gritty $1 Billion Fantasy Sequel Surges to the Top of Streaming 20 Years Later

Published

Disney has built empires on familiar IP, but every so often, something genuinely original emerges from the studio that takes on a life of its own. In this case, that success story began with a theme park attraction. The original ride opened at Disneyland in 1967 and holds a special place in Disney history as the last attraction personally overseen by Walt Disney before his death. Decades later, Disney took that beloved ride and made it into a movie, which turned out to be a breakout hit and spawned one of the most recognizable movie franchises of all time.

The series has since gone on to gross upwards of $4.5 billion at the global box office across five films. The franchise also introduced one of the most iconic original characters of modern cinema, a protagonist (Johnny Depp) so beloved that audiences have been asking for his return ever since the series went quiet. Gore Verbinski directed the films that started it all, and Hans Zimmer scored them with one of the most recognizable adventure themes of all time.

That franchise is Pirates of the Caribbean, and now, the second film in the series, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is suddenly back in the spotlight. According to FlixPatrol, it is currently sitting in the Top 10 on Disney+ charts across 10 countries, including Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden. The film is notably absent from the United States charts, but the European surge is a strong signal of enduring love for the franchise internationally.

Your Universe Has Been Chosen
You Belong In…

Your answers point to the iconic universe your values, your instincts, and your particular way of seeing the world were built for. This is where you would find your people — and your purpose.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

You believe in the cause — in the idea that freedom is worth fighting for even when the odds are impossible and the empire is vast.

  • You are drawn to the moral clarity of a universe where hope itself is a form of resistance.
  • You’d find your people in the Rebellion — a ragtag coalition of true believers held together by conviction more than resources.
  • Star Wars is fundamentally a story about ordinary people choosing to matter in an extraordinary conflict — and that is exactly your kind of story.
  • The Force may or may not be with you. But the will to use it for something larger than yourself certainly is.

Middle-earth

Lord of the Rings

You understand, in the deepest part of yourself, that the journey matters as much as the destination — and that the world’s beauty is worth protecting even at great cost.

  • Middle-earth is a world of ancient wonder, deep friendship, and a darkness that only retreats when enough small acts of courage accumulate.
  • You would thrive here because you value the fellowship more than the glory — the road more than the arrival.
  • Tolkien’s universe rewards patience, loyalty, and the willingness to carry something heavy across a very long distance.
  • Those are not burdens to you. They are simply how you move through the world.

The Wizarding World

Harry Potter

You believe that love, loyalty, and doing what’s right are not naive sentiments — they are the most powerful forces in any world, magical or otherwise.

  • The Wizarding World is a place of wonder hidden in plain sight, where learning is transformative and the bonds you form at school follow you into every battle.
  • You would flourish here because you take both the magic and the friendships seriously — and you understand that one without the other is incomplete.
  • Harry Potter’s universe ultimately rewards those who choose to stand for something even when standing is terrifying.
  • That choice — made quietly, without guarantee — is something you understand completely.

Westeros · The Known World

Game of Thrones

You see the world clearly — its power structures, its hypocrisies, its brutal arithmetic — and you are not paralysed by that clarity. You use it.

  • Westeros is a world that rewards intelligence, adaptability, and the willingness to understand that every alliance is also a negotiation.
  • You would survive here — possibly thrive here — because you don’t confuse the world as it is with the world as you’d like it to be.
  • Game of Thrones is a story about what happens when the idealists and the realists collide. You are sharp enough to know which one lasts longer.
  • Winter always comes. You are already prepared.

The United Federation of Planets

Star Trek

You believe the future is worth building — that curiosity, cooperation, and the expansion of understanding are not just ideals but the most practical path forward for any civilisation.

  • Star Trek is a universe where the questions matter as much as the answers, and where encountering something utterly alien is cause for wonder rather than fear.
  • You would belong here because you are fundamentally optimistic about what intelligence and decency can achieve — while being honest about how hard that achievement is.
  • The Federation is the universe’s most ambitious thought experiment: what if we actually got better?
  • You don’t just hope that’s possible. You think it’s the only thing worth working toward.

A New ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Film Is Finally Taking Shape at Disney

It has been nearly a decade since a new Pirates film arrived in cinemas. In the years since, the franchise has been stuck in development hell. Two projects were reportedly in motion at various points: a soft reboot sequel and a female-led spin-off starring Margot Robbie. A rotating range of writers have reportedly worked on the material, starting with Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick in 2018, followed by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin in 2019, and then Christina Hodson in 2024. None of those efforts made it to production. But now, with Josh D’Amaro stepping in as the new head of the Walt Disney Company following Bob Iger‘s tenure, a new Pirates film is reportedly a top priority for the studio.

The latest development comes from Jeff Sneider, who reports that Oscar nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns is on board to write the script. The story is said to center on Jack Sparrow’s (Depp) son alongside a new character set to be played by Robbie. This probably means that the spin-off and the mainline sequel that were previously rumored have been merged into a single project. Robbie’s character is described as a punk-rock cross between Jack Sparrow and Emma Stone‘s Cruella, and the goal for the film is to capture the tone of the originals but with a modern edge and a tighter budget. However, it’s important to take all this info in with a bucket of salt because nothing is official yet.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is available to stream on Disney+. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.

Stefon Diggs Reveals Where He Stands With Cardi B Now

Published

on

Cardi B at the 2025 Grammy Awards

Stefon Diggs is setting the record straight after a public argument with Cardi B sparked speculation about their relationship status.

The NFL star addressed the viral confrontation weeks after the pair were seen having a tense exchange outside a Maryland coffee shop and gym.

While the incident fueled breakup rumors, Diggs insists there is no bad blood between them. His latest comments come after a whirlwind year that included a romance, a child, a split, and an unexpected reunion.

Stefon Diggs brushed off concerns about the heated exchange that made headlines last month, insisting that things between him and Cardi B are still good.

In a video published on Wednesday, the 32-year-old athlete spoke with TMZ and was asked about his current relationship with the rapper following their very public disagreement.

Diggs made it clear that he still has deep affection for Cardi B, saying, “That’s my child’s mother. I love her to death.”

When pressed for more details about where they stand today, however, he declined to speak for her, adding, “You have to ask her.”

The football player also downplayed the seriousness of the confrontation itself. Asked about the explosive argument that was caught on camera, Diggs responded, “What argument? I don’t even think that was an argument,” while pointing out that he remained calm throughout the interaction.

Diggs Says He And Cardi B Are Still ‘Great’

Although paparazzi noted that Cardi B appeared considerably more animated during the encounter, Stefan Diggs refused to characterize the moment as a major dispute.

After TMZ suggested the Grammy-winning artist looked fairly fired up, he simply replied, “That’s okay … women get like that sometimes.”

Despite the attention surrounding the footage, Diggs repeatedly emphasized that there is no ongoing tension between the two. He described their current relationship status in simple terms, insisting they are “great.”

His comments came after fans were left confused by the pair’s recent public appearances. Diggs and Cardi B shocked followers when they reunited in May and packed on the PDA at Diggs’ Mother’s Day event.

The affectionate outing led many to believe the former couple had rekindled their romance after their split earlier this year.

However, that hope was quickly overshadowed with doubt when they were later spotted arguing outside a coffee shop and gym in Maryland, fueling fresh speculation about trouble behind the scenes.

The latest chapter in Diggs and Cardi’s relationship follows a roller-coaster timeline.

The pair began dating in 2025 and eventually made their romance Instagram-official last June. Their relationship continued to draw attention after they welcomed a son together.

However, the couple broke up in February, making their Mother’s Day reunion all the more surprising to fans. Meanwhile, Cardi has since addressed the viral video of her altercation with Diggs.

As The Blast reported, the “I Like It” hitmaker offered a humorous explanation for what happened, rather than fueling speculation. “Sometimes I forget I’m a celebrity,” she tweeted.

She followed that up with a relatable explanation for the confrontation, writing, “Damn y’all ain’t never cuss your babydad out when you hungry?”

Besides the public altercation, Stefon Diggs and Cardi B’s recent reunion was also overshadowed by explosive allegations from Diggs’ former personal chef, Jamila Adams.

Just weeks after the pair sparked reconciliation rumors, Adams publicly claimed that Diggs mistreated Cardi during her pregnancy and after the birth of their son.

As The Blast reported, Adams posted a social media video on May 11 directed at the rapper and alleged, “The same person that abused you abused me.”

Adams also revealed that there were text messages to prove that Diggs spoke down to and belittled the Grammy Award winner during their time together.

Prior to the revelation, Diggs’ legal saga took another dramatic turn after Adams made a claim about the nature of their relationship.

According to The Blast, Adams stated during court testimony tied to her assault allegations against Diggs that she and the former New England Patriots receiver had a sexual relationship before she was hired as his live-in personal chef in 2025.

According to her testimony, what began as a friendship eventually became romantic, then evolved into a professional arrangement.

Adams also alleged that Diggs assaulted her during a dispute at his Massachusetts home, while Diggs consistently denied the accusations and pleaded not guilty.

After a two-day trial, a jury found Diggs not guilty of felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault charges.

Love Island USA Couples Status Check Who Is Still Together and Who Broke Up After Leaving Villa 719

Love Island USA is all about coupling up — so which Islanders are currently together and which have already called it quits in the villa?

Peacock’s popular dating show returned in June 2026 with contestants Aniya Harvey, Beatriz Hatz, Bryce Alakai Dettloff, KC Chandler, Mackenzie “Kenzie” Annis, Melanie Moreno, Sincere Rhea, Sean Reifel, Trinity Tatum and Zach Georgiou.

While the Islanders paired off during Day 1, it didn’t take long for those bonds to shift. There was also the arrival of bombshells Gabriel Vasconcelos and Kayda Bosse, who tempted several Islanders to Paradise Cove.

Viewers continue to tune in to see how each couple flourishes — or falls apart. Peacock, meanwhile, issued a message before the show returned to remind the audience to be kind.

22 Years Later, Nicolas Cage’s Near-Perfect Indiana Jones Replacement Still Holds Up

Published

on

01270646_poster_w780-2.jpg

Before Nicolas Cage played the web-slinging superhero in Spider-Noir and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, he starred in one of the most iconic film franchises from Disney which has recently made a streaming comeback. This feature led to a franchise, including a Disney+ series with 10 episodes and starring notable Hollywood names. And while it got mixed critics’ reviews, audiences loved it.

Cage started his career in 1981 and has since appeared in many projects, with the most recent being Prime Video’s Spider-Noir, as well as The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Teen Titans GO! To the Movies, and Snowden, but he also has many producer credits under his belt. But out of all the movies and TV shows Cage has worked on, there are a few projects that he’s known for, and one of them recently became a streaming hit.

National Treasure was a 2004 historical fiction action-adventure that kick-started a franchise, leading to a sequel and a Disney+ show that came out in 2022. Cage starred in the film as treasure hunter Benjamin Gates, as he and his friend Riley (Justin Bartha) attempt to find the treasure hidden in America by the Founding Fathers and other notable people in history, before crime boss Ian Howe (Sean Bean) can. Recently, National Treasure landed at #5 on Hulu’s Top 10 Movies in the U.S., sitting between 2024’s Twisters and The Home with Pete Davidson.

01

You’re dropped into a dangerous situation with no warning. What do you need most from a partner?
The first few seconds tell you everything about who belongs beside you.

02

You have to get somewhere dangerous, fast. How do you travel?
How you get there is half the mission.

03

You’re pinned down and outnumbered. What does your ideal partner do?
This is when you find out what someone is really made of.

04

The mission is paused. You have one evening to decompress. What does your partner suggest?
Who someone is when the pressure drops is who they actually are.

05

How do you prefer your partner to communicate mid-mission?
Good communication is the difference between partners and a liability.

06

Your enemy is powerful, well-resourced, and has the upper hand. How should your partner approach them?
The approach to the enemy defines the partnership.

07

Things go badly wrong and you’re captured. What do you trust your partner to do?
Who someone is when you need them most is the only thing that matters.

08

What does your ideal partner bring to the table that you couldn’t replace?
A great partner fills the gap you didn’t know you had.

09

Every partnership has a cost. Which of these can you live with?
No one comes without baggage. The question is whether you can carry it together.

10

It’s the final moment. Everything is on the line. What do you need from your partner right now?
The last question is the most honest one.

Your Partner Has Been Assigned
Your Perfect Partner Is…

Your answers have pointed to one action hero above all others. This is the person built to have your back — for better or considerably, spectacularly worse.

Rambo

Your partner doesn’t talk much, doesn’t need to, and will have assessed every threat in your immediate environment before you’ve finished your first sentence. John Rambo is not a man of plans or politics — he is a force of nature shaped by survival, loyalty, and a capacity for endurance that goes beyond anything training can produce. He will not leave you behind. He has never left anyone behind who deserved to come home. What you get with Rambo is the most capable, most quietly ferocious partner imaginable — one who has been through things that would have broken anyone else, and who chose to keep going anyway. You’ll never need to ask if he has your back. You’ll just know.

James Bond

Your partner will arrive perfectly dressed, perfectly briefed, and with a cover story so convincing it’ll take you a moment to remember what’s actually true. James Bond is the most professionally dangerous person in any room he enters — and the most disarmingly charming, which is the point. He operates in a world of layers, where nothing is what it appears and every advantage is used without apology. You’ll never be bored. You’ll occasionally be furious. But when it matters — when the mission is genuinely on the line and the margin for error has collapsed to nothing — Bond is exactly the partner you want. He has survived things that have no business being survivable. He does it with style. That is not nothing.

Indiana Jones

Your partner will know the history, the language, the cultural context, and exactly why the thing everyone else is ignoring is actually the most important thing in the room. Indiana Jones is brilliant, reckless, and occasionally impossible — but he is also one of the most resourceful, most genuinely knowledgeable partners you could find yourself beside. He approaches every situation with a scholar’s eye and a brawler’s instinct, which is an unusual combination and a remarkably effective one. He hates snakes and gets personally attached to objects of historical significance, both of which will slow you down at least once. It doesn’t matter. What Indy brings is irreplaceable — and the adventures you’ll have together will be the kind people write books about. Assuming you survive them.

John McClane

Your partner was not supposed to be here. He does not have the right equipment, the right information, or anything approaching the right odds. He has a sarcastic remark and an absolute refusal to accept that the situation is as bad as it looks. John McClane is the greatest accidental hero in the history of action cinema — a man whose superpower is stubbornness, whose contingency plan is improvisation, and whose capacity to absorb punishment and keep moving would be alarming if it weren’t so useful. He will complain the entire time. He will make it significantly more chaotic than it needed to be. And he will absolutely, unconditionally, without question come through when it counts. Yippee-ki-yay.

Ethan Hunt

Your partner has already run seventeen scenarios by the time you’ve finished reading the briefing, and the plan he’s settled on involves at least two things that should be physically impossible. Ethan Hunt operates at the absolute edge of human capability — technically, physically, and intellectually — and he brings the same relentless precision to protecting his partners that he brings to dismantling organisations that shouldn’t exist. He is not easy to know and he will never fully tell you everything. But he will carry the weight of the mission so completely, so absolutely, that your job is simply to trust him — and the remarkable thing is that trusting him always turns out to be the right call. The mission will be impossible. He will complete it anyway.

Is ‘National Treasure’ Worth Watching?

Since its release in 2004, National Treasure has generated over $347.5 million at the box office, leading to a sequel released in 2007 called National Treasure: Book of Secrets, which performed higher at the box office, and there’s speculation that a third installment could be on the table. Disney attempted to lure new viewers to the franchise with a Disney+ series called National Treasure: Edge of History, but it was poorly received and was canceled after its first season. While critics gave the first National Treasure movie a 47% score on Rotten Tomatoes, audiences praised the 2004 feature, earning a 78% score on the popcornmeter and a 3.3-star rating on LetterBoxd.

Critics criticized National Treasure, stating it was trying to be Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, but merged with a history lesson, or that it was like The Da Vinci Code, but with the religious context replaced with American history. Others didn’t believe that Cage was convincing enough to be a treasure hunter and saw him as a “social studies teacher.” However, some critics gave National Treasure some praise, saying that it “gave America sex appeal” and that it’s a guilty pleasure, and the only reason why is because of Cage’s performance.

National Treasure is available to stream on Hulu.

Amanda Seyfried's Slimming Capri Pants Style Is $7 on Amazon

If you’re not in the mood for stiff, scratchy denim lately, you’re not alone. Amanda Seyfried is in the same boat, as are New York rich moms who rock Seyfried’s comfy and flattering (yet polarizing) capri pants style. We found the look on sale for only $7!

For a movie premiere in Paris, Seyfried paired capri leggings with a skirt and a sharp blazer, a getup that works on the streets of the 8th arrondissement and Tuesday in Milwaukee alike. These chic cropped pants infuse any getup with intention; with Seyfried’s style stamp of approval, they’re not so controversial anymore.

These trendy Sinophant High-Waisted Capri Leggings have the same slimming, lengthening effect Seyfried showed off. The high waist smooths your midsection, while the cropped hem elongates your frame, making your legs look longer and leaner without even trying.

Then, there’s the buttery-soft fabric that feels like a second skin. These capri pants are designed to carry you from the boardroom to boxing class, looking and feeling your best.

One happy Amazon shopper wrote, “They are soft and stretchy, but bounce back when you are wearing them, so they don’t become baggy . . . For a short person like me, they are very high-waisted, but it stops me from having a muffin top and keeps my tummy flat.”

Over 5,000 fashionistas bought these leggings last month alone, wearing them for lounging, errands and everything in between. They go from casual to dressy in seconds, working just as well with a quarter-zip and sneakers as they do with a silk blouse and flats.

Capri pants have a long road to credibility, but we can thank fashionistas like Seyfried for nudging them along. This comfy, skin-soft version makes it easy to rock the look, and once you slip it on, you’ll understand why it’s winning over even the skeptics.

Seyfried approves. Paris approves. At just $7, your wallet certainly approves, too!

This Forgotten ‘Arrested Development’ Reunion Was Considered Cancelled After Just 4 Episodes

Published

on

There was never going to be an easy way for Mitch Hurwitz to follow up Arrested Development. But that’s exactly what he tried to do with the bizarre project that is Sit Down, Shut Up. In 2009, a few years after his cult classic show came to its (first) conclusion, Fox greenlit Hurwitz’s US take on Sit Down, Shut Up. The expectation was that whatever came next for him would recapture the same lightning-in-a-bottle magic that made Arrested Development one of the greatest sitcom masterpieces of all time.

Instead, Sit Down, Shut Up became one of the most spectacular misfires of Fox’s late-2000s comedy lineup. So much so, in fact, it wound up disappearing from primetime after only four episodes — and was banished to one of television’s least desirable time slots. More than 15 years later, the series remains a fascinating case study: a show packed with comedic talent, anchored by several Arrested Development veterans, that somehow failed to connect with either critics or audiences.

Mitch Hurwitz Reassembled Much of the ‘Arrested Development’ Family

Sit Down, Shut Up centered on a dysfunctional group of teachers and administrators at Knob Haven High School, a Florida school populated by adults who seemed far less interested in educating students than pursuing their own selfish agendas. On paper, it really sounded like can’t-miss television. For one, it reunited Hurwitz with three key Arrested Development performers: Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Henry Winkler. The supporting cast only made the project look more promising: Saturday Night Live stars Will Forte, Cheri Oteri, and Kenan Thompson, plus comedian Nick Kroll, voice-acting legend Tom Kenny, and Broadway favorite Kristin Chenoweth.

Unfortunately, critics and audiences didn’t respond well to the actual show. Part of the problem was Sit Down, Shut Up‘s unusual animation style. Hurwitz and the creative team attempted to blend traditionally animated characters with real-world photographic backgrounds. The idea was intended to give the series a unique look that existed somewhere between live-action and animation. Instead, most people just found it distractingly ugly. The series also struggled to establish a comedic identity separate from Arrested Development. While traces of Hurwitz’s trademark meta-humor and rapid-fire joke structure remained visible, many felt the writing relied too heavily on crude punchlines and broad character archetypes.

Here’s Why You Should Give Seasons 4 and 5 of ‘Arrested Development’ Another Chance

The Bluths are back and as funny as ever.

Sit Down, Shut Up premiered as part of Fox’s prestigious “Animation Domination” lineup, which meant it shared space with must-watch adult animated shows such as The Simpsons and Family Guy. That placement should have given the series every possible opportunity to find an audience. Instead, viewership tanked almost immediately. After only two episodes, Fox moved the show from its original Sunday slot to an earlier timeslot in an effort to stop the bleeding. The strategy didn’t work, though. Ratings continued to slump. After just four episodes had aired, the network removed the series from the Animation Domination lineup entirely.

Fox didn’t officially cancel the series right away, but the network’s next move revealed exactly how little confidence it had left in the project: Five months after the last airing, they stuck the remaining nine episodes on the schedule for Saturday nights at midnight. Insiders know this is one of the least valuable programming windows imaginable: Audiences are tiny, promotion is minimal, and most shows that get dumped there are basically just being burned off to satisfy contractual obligations. Fox officially cancelled the series later that year, bringing its brief run to an end after just 13 episodes.

The ‘Arrested Development’ movie faced arrested development, but the premise was hilarious.

Hurwitz would face similar struggles with his subsequent projects, as well. His next — another Will Arnett collaboration, this time called Running Wildewas cancelled after one season in 2011. His Netflix series Lady Dynamite survived its first season but was cancelled after its second in 2017. Looking back, Sit Down, Shut Up was a canary in the coal mine. Hurwitz was in an impossible position of trying to make anything other than the infinitely quotable Arrested Development. His defining work has become one of television’s defining sitcoms, and its too-soon cancellation will always have people hungry for more of the same from him. It’s created expectations that few creators could ever realistically satisfy. Alas, even with beloved cast members from one of the best comedy ensembles on television, Sit Down, Shut Up was never going to be able escape these constant comparisons to its predecessor.

X-Files’ Coolest Supporting Character Nearly Got A Gender Swap

X-Files’ Coolest Supporting Character Nearly Got A Gender Swap

By Chris Snellgrove
| Published

Part of why The X-Files got so popular is that it had some of the coolest characters on television. Obviously, Mulder and Scully were awesome, and their engrossing chemistry made this one of the most popular shows of the ‘90s. However, the show had a small army of supporting characters that were equally compelling, including everyone from the quirky Lone Gunmen to the fearsome Cigarette Smoking Man. Arguably, though, nobody had a more fascinating role than Mulder’s informants. In Season 1, Deep Throat provided crucial information about aliens and government conspiracies, but even after he was murdered, it was unclear whose side he was truly on.

After Deep Throat’s death, fans shared Mulder’s concern that he’d never have another informant with juicy insider knowledge. Eventually, however, Deep Throat was replaced by a character known as X (sometimes referred to as “Mr. X”). He quickly became a fan-favorite character thanks to actor Steven Williams, who gave Mulder’s latest insider a volatile and sometimes violent intensity. Looking back, it’s understandably difficult to imagine anybody else playing such an important role. However, the role of this hypermasculine character almost went to a woman named Natalia Nogulich, and you can even watch her acting as X in a deleted scene!

You’re A Mean One, Mr. X

By design, there’s only so much we know about the informant characters in The X-Files. After all, they are supposed to have risen through some very shadowy governmental ranks and know how to hide their secrets from some of the most powerful men in the world. What do we actually know about X? He was one of the men in black (no, really!) and worked for the Cigarette Smoking Man. However, he wasn’t loyal to the evil Syndicate and offered some of their secret information to Mulder. Eventually, they found out he was helping the enemy, and the Syndicate sent the Grey-Haired Man to eliminate him.

The X was technically introduced in the Season 2 episode “The Host,” but he didn’t appear onscreen until two episodes later. In “Sleepless,” he has the first of what would be many clandestine meetings with Agent Mulder. The original script for that episode referred to X as a woman, and Natalia Nogulich was cast in the role and filmed a scene alongside David Duchovny. However, once director Rob Bowman, prolific X-Files writer James Wong, and others sat down to watch the dailies, they decided she was wrong for the role. Interestingly, though, the original scene with Nogulich was included as a bonus feature on the Season 2 DVD set.

X was recast, and the role was given to veteran character actor Steven Williams. Williams added some welcome intensity to the role, and he had some solid inspiration. He later stated that he modeled his performance after Avery Brooks’ iconic role in Spenser: For Hire. While the actor ended up being a great addition to the show (writer Glen Morgan thought he’d be perfect as a series regular), putting him into “Sleepless” proved to be difficult. Rather than reshooting the entire scene with David Duchovny, Bowman simply filmed Williams’ scenes and edited them into the existing footage. Thanks to some creative close-ups, his addition to the scene was relatively seamless.

Why, though, was X originally written as a woman? X-Files creator Chris Carter thought that he could play with fan expectations by introducing a new female character that Mulder could potentially hook up with. While Nogulich didn’t work out as X, Carter still liked the idea of Mulder having a female informant. Therefore, after X died in Season 3, he was replaced by Marita Covarrubias, a character played by Laurie Holden. Unfortunately, her character was poorly written and often poorly acted, and she is almost universally considered the worst of Mulder’s informants.

Personally, I’ve always thought that X was the greatest informant on The X-Files. This is mostly due to the performance of Steven Williams, an accomplished actor who can supercharge any scene simply by walking in the room. While Natalija Nogulich is a great actor (sci-fi fans will know her best as Admiral Nechayev from Star Trek: The Next Generation), it’s impossible to imagine anyone other than Williams playing Mulder’s second informant. However, the fact that Chris Carter wanted Nogulich to play the role of a potential hook-up while looking like a multiversal variant of Scully is absolutely wild. Forget the truth, Mulder; the Freud is what’s really out there!

GettyImages-276015 NHL Legend Claude Lemieuxs Death Certificate Reveals New Details After His Death by Suicide

NHL legend Claude Lemieux’s death certificate has been released, shedding more light on the aftermath of his death by suicide at age 60.

A document obtained by TMZ from Florida’s Bureau of Vital Statistics confirmed that Lemieux was found dead at a “place of business” on Thursday, May 28, in Lake Park, Florida. (Prior reporting clarified that one of Lemieux’s adult sons found him dead in a rear warehouse at the Andros Home showroom in West Palm Beach County.)

Lemieux’s body was initially taken to a Stuart, Florida, funeral home before it was transferred to Henson Chapel Cemetery in Vilas, North Carolina.

A Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson confirmed to Us Weekly at the time that officers on the scene at the warehouse determined that Lemieux died by suicide.

“The business was secured for evidence preservation/investigation by VCD Homicide,” a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson confirmed. “The victim is believed to be Claude Lemieux.”

The news of Lemieux’s death shocked the sports world, as he’d served as a torchbearer at the NHL’s Eastern Conference Finals between the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes in Montreal on Monday, May 25.

In the wake of Claude’s death, his four adult children —sons Christopher, Michael and Brendan as well as daughter Claudia — released a collective statement to celebrate their father’s life and incredible legacy in the NHL. (Claude was a four-time Stanley Cup champion and won the prestigious Conn Smythe Trophy in 1995.)

The Lemieux children and their mother, Deborah Lemieux, confirmed on Saturday, May 30, that they plan to donate the athlete’s brain “as a gift to science” for research into the neurodegenerative disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). (Per the Mayo Clinic, CTE is a brain disease linked to repeated head trauma. It is most commonly linked to athletes and combat veterans.)

The family shared that Claude’s brain would go to the UNITE Brain Bank at the Boston University CTE Center for a study of “the long-term effects of repetitive head impacts and traumatic brain injury.”

“Claude dedicated his post-play career to helping the next generation,” his family said on Saturday. “By allowing his name to be connected to this research, we hope his life can contribute to greater understanding, more honest conversations, and better protection for athletes and families in the years ahead.”

The Lemieux family also cautioned the public to avoid speculating about the “circumstances of Claude’s death.”

Did Love Island's Vasana Montgomery Film Any Scenes Before Exit?

Love Island USA‘s Vasana Montgomery is speaking out for the first time since being removed from the villa amid a racism scandal.

“I want to address a couple videos from my teen years that have recently resurfaced,” she wrote via her Instagram Story on Wednesday, June 3. “In those videos, I used a racial slur. I am embarrassed and disappointed by my words.”

Vasana noted that she wanted to take accountability for her actions.

“I take full responsibility for what I said and understand why it has hurt and upset people,” she continued. “Since then, I have grown a lot as a person and taken the time to educate myself, listen, learn, and better understand the impact that language can have.”

Love Island USA returned for season 8 — minus one contestant — but did Vasana Montgomery appear in the premiere before her exit? The popular dating show returned on Tuesday, June 2, with contestants Aniya Harvey, Beatriz Hatz, Bryce Alakai Dettloff, Gabriel Vasconcelos, KC Chandler, Mackenzie “Kenzie” Annis, Melanie Moreno, Sincere Rhea, Sean Reifel, Trinity […]

She added: “That growth does not erase my mistake, and 1am not asking anyone to excuse it. I believe people should be held accountable for their actions, but I also believe in growth, learning, and becoming better. To anyone I hurt or disappointed, I am truly sorry.”

Vasana was cut from season 8 of Love Island USA after resurfaced social media posts showed her using a slur. Vasana was removed from the show before she got a chance to enter the villa. Both clips were leaked from her private social media, which meant producers weren’t privy to the posts while casting the season.

The Peacock dating show has previously weathered similar issues with Islanders when Yulissa Escobar left days into the experience in season 7 after clips of her using racial slurs on a podcast circulated online.

Cierra Ortega also faced backlash when a resurfaced social media post showed her using a slur. She was pulled from the villa and later issued an apology for her posts.

“Now that I’ve been back in the U.S. for about 48 hours and I’ve had the chance to process, I now feel like I’m at a space where I can speak about this without being highly emotional because I am not the victim in the situation,” Cierra said in an Instagram video in July 2025. “While I was in the villa, there were some posts that resurfaced from my past where I was very naively using an incredibly offensive and derogatory term. I want to first start by addressing not just anyone that I have hurt or deeply offended — but most importantly — the entire Asian community.
I am deeply, truly, honestly, so sorry.”

Cierra admitted she didn’t know she was using a slur at the time.

“I had no idea that the word held as much pain, as much harm and came with the history that it did or I never would have used it. I had no ill intention when I was using it but that’s absolutely no excuse because intent doesn’t excuse ignorance.
It just doesn’t,” she noted. “I just need you to know that I am so sorry — but this is not an apology video. This is an accountability video. I do want to hold my hands up and say that I take accountability for using the word, but I do want it to be known that I genuinely had no idea that it was a slur. I had no idea of its meaning.”

After leaving the villa, Cierra said she found the online backlash “very hard to deal with,” adding, “I can do my best to drown out the noise and pay attention to the truth. But what’s been extremely, extremely difficult is the way people are approaching my family and my loved ones. They have had ICE called on them. My family doesn’t feel safe in their own home.
I’m receiving death threats and there’s no need to fight hate with hate. I don’t think that that’s justice. If you want to know that you are heard and that I’m sorry and that I will move differently, I promise you that’s what will happen.”

Cierra promised to take the necessary steps to grow from the experience.

“I know that no apology could ever be enough for the harm that I’ve caused and the offense that’s taken place. I know that moving forward my actions and how I decide to live my life from here on out is going to speak louder than any apology ever could,” she said. “But I do need it to be known that I am sorry and I did mean no harm. Hopefully there are people out there that can use my mistake as a learning moment and to just be better because that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna take today and tomorrow and I’m gonna take strides to be better.”
