2026 hasn’t exactly been a benchmark year for Gerard Butler so far, who starred in one of the biggest box office bombs of his career with Greenland 2: Migration. Butler reunited with his Greenland co-star Morena Baccarin on the sci-fi sequel, but with a budget of $90 million, it needed close to $200 million just to break even — Greenland 2 left theaters with less than $50 million total at the box office. Butler’s second movie of the year, In the Hand of Dante, is a 700-year-spanning crime thriller that saw him team up with other stars like Oscar Isaac and Jason Momoa. The film had a successful run into the top 10, but it certainly didn’t stay at the top of streaming charts as many fans were expecting, especially considering the star power involved.
Just because Butler’s last few movies haven’t lived up to his high standards doesn’t mean he doesn’t still have plenty of hits under his belt, though. While it failed to find success at the box office, Butler’s 2021 action thriller with Frank Grillo, Copshop, has become a massive success on streaming in the last few years, running in the top 10 on various platforms. Copshop has called Netflix its streaming home for a few months now, but all good things must come to an end. The streamer recently announced that the last day to watch Butler and Grillo’s Copshop will be on August 9, at the end of this weekend. Fans need to act fast if they want to check out the film on streaming, as a new home has yet to be announced for when it leaves Netflix.
What Is ‘Copshop’ About?
The official synopsis for Copshop reads as follows: “A small-town cop shop becomes a pressure cooker when a wanted man (Frank Grillo) gets himself arrested on purpose to hide from a ruthless hitman (Gerard Butler) hunting him down. Rookie officer Valerie Young (Alexis Louder) finds herself caught in the crossfire as lies unravel and bullets fly. A tense, twisty thriller where nothing — and no one — is what they seem.” Copshop was directed by Joe Carnahan, who also worked on one of the biggest Netflix movies of 2026, The Rip, starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Copshop also holds solid scores of 83% from critics and 74% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.
Check out Copshop before it’s removed from Netflix at the end of this weekend, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Gerard Butler’s future projects.
