Glen Powell Reveals Johnny Depp’s Chad Powers Cameo

Chad Powers Season 2 featured a surprise cameo from Johnny Depp, and actor Glen Powell has now revealed how it came together.

Powell plays the lead role of quarterback Russ Holliday in the comedy series. After falling from grace in high-level football, Holliday goes undercover in an attempt to get a second chance with a struggling college team and revive his career.

When fans sat down to watch the second-season finale of Chad Powers, few probably expected to see Johnny Depp appear.

During the scene, Russ hides out in an abandoned cinema while meeting with a friend who is secretly preparing to betray him. The projector initially shows nothing but a blank screen before footage of Depp from Edward Scissorhands suddenly appears.

Using Depp’s character in this way would have required clearance from the Pirates of the Caribbean star, which Powell confirmed was the case.

“I have to give a shout out to Johnny Depp for giving us the rights. Johnny had to give us the OK, so I sent him an email, and he did,” he said in an interview with Gold Derby.

What Chad Powers Is About

In “Chad Powers,” Powell plays the lead role of Holliday, whose shot at a national title and professional career went down the drain because of his ego. Nearly a decade later, he tries to get a second chance by trying out for a struggling college team.

He uses prosthetics to disguise himself and goes undercover at the walk-on tryouts, eventually making the team as Chad Powers. However, he now has to tell more lies to hide his identity, which makes many people suspicious of him.

At the same time, he tries to make up for his past mistakes and use his second chance to better himself and his new team.

The Series Was Inspired By Real-Life Events

One of the many questions that came up after the series debuted in September 2025 was whether it was based on something real.

Powell addressed the question during a Good Morning America interview that same month, revealing that the series was linked to former professional football player Eli Manning, who once went undercover to try out as a walk-on quarterback for Penn State.

“We took that concept and that inspiration and have doubled down on the prosthetics, updated it, improved it, new model, new Chad, and we’re making a hell of a show here,” Powell said during the sit-down about the show.

Glen Powell Credited Eli And Peyton Manning For Their Involvement In Chad Powers

At the time, Powell also confirmed that Manning and his brother, Peyton, were deeply involved in the behind-the-scenes work on the series.

“One of the coolest things about the Manning boys is that they are extremely involved,” Powell shared.

Their involvement helped make the football scenes feel fully legit, and Manning’s input as a football player was especially helpful.

“What makes this show different is we wanted this thing to be funny and heartfelt but to have the football be legit,” Powell added. “You know what a real quarterback looks like and when it doesn’t, so the fact that I have these guys as my coach, it’s a nice little lifesaver.”

Powell Revealed The Stakes Were Higher For His Character In Season 2

Speaking about the new season ahead of its September 3 debut, Powell told ABC News that the stakes were even higher.

“That’s the fun and dance of this season is that there’s a give and take,” Powell shared at the time. “There’s kind of a pressure-release valve when you are sharing a secret with somebody—you’re not in on it alone.”

Indeed, that proved to be the case, as the finale hooked fans so much that many began asking when the third season would debut.

Taylor Swift’s latest date night look has Us crushing on chocolate brown all over again. Her chic textured bag style brought the right amount of fall to an otherwise glitzy outfit, but at $1,520 (and currently sold out) it’s not exactly an easy ‘add to cart.’ Thankfully, getting the look doesn’t require a pop star budget!

Swift was spotted out with Travis Kelce in New York City on September 6, 2026, wearing a cascading metallic halter gown with rose gold Aquazzura heels. She finished the look with the scale-embossed Stella McCartney bucket bag in a decadent chocolate brown shade — and we found a spot-on $34 Amazon lookalike that channels the luxe feel for less.

Get the Nicole & Doris Small Crocodile Bucket Bag for $36 at Amazon! Please note, prices are accurate as of the publishing date but are subject to change.

The Nicole & Doris Small Crocodile Bucket Bag has all the details that made Swift’s designer pick catch our eye in the first place. A glossy croc-embossed finish gives it an expensive-looking texture, while the petite bucket silhouette and curved top handle add a polished, lady-like touch. At first glance, we’d never guess it was an Amazon find.

While it’s small enough for date night, you don’t have to leave half your essentials at home. Three separate compartments give your phone, wallet, keys and lipstick their own spots, while the included crossbody strap lets you go hands-free when needed. The waterproof PU leather is another win for those unpredictable fall days when rain decides to crash the plans.

Swift paired her brown bag with plenty of sparkle, but we can already think of a dozen other ways to wear the shade this season. Try it with a cream sweater and dark-wash jeans for brunch, a burgundy knit dress for dinner or a suede jacket and boots for a full-on fall moment. The deep neutral adds a rich-looking finishing touch without making an outfit feel overly dressed up.

With chocolate brown shaping up to be one of fall’s chicest color trends, this is one accessory that won’t have trouble earning its keep. Carry it for date night, weekend plans or whenever your outfit could use a little extra polish — all while channeling Swift’s look for a fraction of the price.

India Royale Breaks Her Silence With Heartfelt Message Following Lil Durk's Not-Guilty Verdict

Friday, September 11, brought plenty of emotions for Lil Durk as he learned his fate in his murder-for-hire trial. A Los Angeles jury found the rapper not guilty on all charges, while his wife, India Royale, and his mother sat in the courtroom for the major moment. Shortly after the jury announced its decision, India dropped a heartfelt message on social media as fans also dropped reactions to Durk’s not-guilty verdict.

RELATED: UPDATE: Lil Durk Will Remain In Custody Pending The Outcome Of His Upcoming RICO Trial

India Royale Speaks Out Following Lil Durk’s Emotional Day In Court

Lil Durk might not be a free man just yet, but that isn’t stopping India Royale from holding him down. She made it clear she’s standing ten toes behind her husband when she dropped a message late Friday night following his not-guilty verdict in the murder-for-hire trial. India reposted a throwback photo from an Instagram fan page to her Story that showed Durk giving their daughter Willow Banks a kiss on the cheek. She added the message, “Thank You God,” along with a praying hands emoji.

Durk Scored A Legal Win But Will Remain Behind Bars

As The Shade Room previously reported, India and Durk’s mother both showed up to support him as the jury delivered its highly anticipated verdict. According to reports, the Chicago rapper broke down in tears after the jury found him not guilty on all charges. Durk’s mom also got emotional, and India reportedly wrapped her arms around her as the jury announced its decision. But Durk isn’t fully off the hook just yet. Per Complex, the 33-year-old will remain behind bars as he awaits the outcome of his pending RICO trial, which kicks off on October 5.

Durk’s Eldest Son Angelo Banks Shares Message After His Verdict

India Royale wasn’t the only loved one showing Durk some love after his verdict. His eldest son, Angelo Banks, also hit his Instagram Story with a message for his dad, sharing a sweet throwback photo of himself and his siblings posted up with Durk. Angelo wrote, “I love you dad. I always believed in you.”

Angelo has been holding his dad down throughout the trial. Back in June, he showed Durk some love with a special Father’s Day post. Fans have also seen a lil’ peek at Angela’s bond with India after she and her daughter Willow pulled up to support him at his eighth-grade graduation in May. Durk shares Angelo with Nicole Covone. Nicole and Durk also share a daughter named Bella Banks. Durk has a total of seven biological children, including Angelo, Bella, and Willow, whom he shares with India. He also has another daughter, Skylar, and three other sons: Romeo, Zayden, and Du’Mier Banks.

NeNe Leakes Called Kim Zolciak After Son’s Arrest

Published

on

NeNe Leakes

NeNe Leakes is getting real about where she stands with her former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” co-stars. In a new interview, the veteran reality star said that while she wouldn’t consider herself to be best friends with any of the “RHOA” ladies today, she’s not in a bad place with them either. In fact, Leakes, who joined the cast of “The Real Housewives” in 2008, said she recently connected with a few of them, including her frenemy, Kim Zolciak.

Leakes appeared on the “Big Tigger Morning Show” recently and discussed her life, career, and, of course, her run on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

When the conversation shifted to Leakes’ relationships with some of the women, the Atlanta OG clarified that she’s not best friends with them, but they’re cordial.

“I’m cool with Kim,” Leakes said. “When you say the word friend … that’s just a real serious word to me. Friend, no. Associates? Yes.”

Leakes and Zolciak both starred in the first several seasons of “RHOA,” and throughout the years, the two bumped heads over rumors and autotuned music tracks. Despite that, Leakes said she connected with Zolciak after learning that her son was arrested.

“I just hit her up wanting to know how she’s doing, congratulated her on Brielle, and made sure she was okay with what her son is dealing with. I know that’s a tough time, and I know she’s not okay.”

Leakes explained that she frequently connects with women from the show. However, they aren’t in constant contact. “If I need to call any of them on the show, they all will answer,” she said. “I don’t have no beef to the level where they won’t answer my call.”

In addition to Zolciak, Leakes said she recently connected with a few other “RHOA” cast members, including her longtime pal, Cynthia Bailey. “I’m not fighting with anybody,” she said. “I call Kenya; she’s answering. Marlo; she’s answering. Cynthia, I spoke to her just two days ago; we don’t have a beef. But we’re just not close like people think that we are, but we don’t have a beef.”

NeNe Leakes Shoots Down ‘RHOA’ Return In Passionate Statement

NeNe Leakes
MEGA

According to a previous report from The Blast, Leakes also spoke about the possibility of her ever returning to the series and said that she doesn’t think it’s likely.

“I think Andy has come out and said publicly that – I don’t think that he actually said the exact words, but I think what everybody took from it is NeNe won’t be back. So, NeNe won’t be back,” she said. “NeNe won’t be back. I don’t feel anything. NeNe won’t be back.”

Still, Leakes said that she’d be open to returning to the show in a much smaller capacity. “I would go and play with them, but as far as me actually holding a peach and all over here sitting on the couch, no. I can’t do that. That’ll drive me crazy,” she added.

Leakes’ comments come a week after her appearance on Bravo’s “Real Housewives: Ultimate Girls Trip.” In episode 4, the mother of two returned to the franchise during a drag show hosted in Atlanta. The following episode, Leakes clashed with “RHOA” OG Lisa Wu during the Alter Ego event.

Speaking to a producer on set, Leakes revealed how she felt being back in front of the cameras. “My stomach was kind of hurting a little bit, kind of, you know, like, nervous hurt,” she said. “I don’t know how they are, you know. I just hope they’re nice to me”

The Women Were Happy To See Leakes

Throughout the two episodes, the principal cast of “RHUGT” shared how excited they were to see Leakes back with the women.

“I’m so happy Nene’s here. And, I don’t know, I feel like we have, like, this sisterhood, like no competition or anything like that. We always, like, respected each other,” Teresa Giudice said in her confessional.

Kyle Richards shared a similar statement, telling producers she has fond memories of her time with Leakes, since she was the first cast member from another franchise she became friends with. “We just always had each other’s back. I’ve missed her,” Richards said.

Where to Watch Practical Magic and Practical Magic 2

Published

on

Practical-Magic-MSDPRMA_EC001

It’s been 28 years since we last saw the Owens sisters, and that’s 28 years too long.

But America’s long witch sister drought is now over, as Practical Magic 2, the long-awaited sequel to the cult film from 1998, is back in theaters.

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock reprise their roles as Gilly and Sally Owens, two siblings with a talent for casting spells — and getting into all sorts of trouble.

Since the high-profile sequel is sparking an interest in the original, Watch With Us has thrown together a handy guide to where you can stream Practical Magic, Practical Magic 2 and whether the first film is worth watching after all these years.

Where Is ‘Practical Magic’ Streaming?

Practical-Magic-MSDPRMA_EC001

Practical Magic is available to stream on HBO. It’s also technically available on Hulu and Prime Video, but only with an HBO Max bundle. You can also rent or purchase Practical Magic on digital platforms, like YouTube and Prime Video.

What Is ‘Practical Magic’ About?

Sally and Gilly are two sisters blessed and cursed with being generational witches. After losing her husband to a curse that kills any man who falls in love with an Owens woman, Sally refrains from using magic, while the more free-spirited Gilly uses it recklessly. When she gets involved with dangerous criminal Jimmy (Goran Visnjic), Gilly asks her sister to help her get rid of him. Things get complicated when a private investigator, Gary (Aidan Quinn), comes looking for Jimmy and bonds with Sally, who can’t fight her growing romantic interest despite her fear of the curse.

Who Stars in ‘Practical Magic’?

Sandra Bullock as Sally Owens
Nicole Kidman as Gillian “Gilly” Owens
Stockard Channing as Frances Owens, Sally and Gillian’s aunt
Dianne Wiest as Bridget “Jet” Owens, Sally and Gillian’s aunt
Goran Visnjic as James “Jimmy” Angelov, Gillian’s lover
Chloe Webb as Carla, Sally’s good friend
Aidan Quinn as Investigator Gary Hallet
Evan Rachel Wood as Kylie Owens, Sally’s elder daughter
Alexandra Artrip as Antonia Owens, Sally’s younger daughter
Margo Martindale as Linda Bennett, another friend of Sally’s
Lucinda Jenney as Sara, one of the town women
Camilla Belle as young Sally Owens
Lora Anne Criswell as young Gillian Owens
Courtney Dettrich as Young Sara
Mary Gross as Debbie
Mark Feuerstein as Michael Greene, Sally’s husband
Caprice Benedetti as Maria Owens
Martha Gehman as Patty
Peter Shaw as Jack, Sally and Gillian’s father
Caralyn Kozlowski as Regina Owens, Sally and Gillian’s mother

Most of the principal cast returned for the sequel except for the actors who played Sally’s children, who were replaced by Joey King (as Kylie) and Maisie Williams (as Antonia). The original Kylie, Evan Rachel Wood, didn’t like that at all and has been public about her disappointment in not being asked to appear in the sequel.

Is ‘Practical Magic’ Still Worth Watching?

Goran Visnjnic and Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic

To quote a popular Jemima Kirke meme, “What the hell, sure.” The original isn’t a masterpiece; it carries a very low 30 percent Rotten Tomatoes critical rating, and it’s filled with female empowerment clichés and witchcraft stereotypes that make you want to groan. But Bullock and Kidman have a great good sister/bad sister chemistry that makes them fun to watch, and the film is stolen by Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest as Sally and Gilly’s Steve Nicks-looking aunts. The film’s soundtrack is the perfect snapshot of late-90s music, with Faith Hill’s monster hit “This Kiss” prominently featured.

When Will ‘Practical Magic 2’ Be Available to Stream?

Like the first film, Practical Magic 2 is being released by Warner Bros., so expect it to be available on HBO Max.

There’s no announced streaming date for Practical Magic 2 just yet, but WB typically allows four months between releasing a movie in theaters and debuting it on their streaming platform. (Supergirl, which was released at the end of June, just dropped on HBO in the first week of September.)

With that timeframe in mind, expect Practical Magic 2 to become available on HBO Max around mid-December at the earliest and January 2027 at the latest. Spooky season will be long over, but who says you can’t have some witchy fun in the winter?

The 1973 Cult Classic That Quentin Tarantino Called “One of the Greatest Revenge Movies Ever Made” Is Streaming on MGM+

Published

on

Coffy with her arms on her hips

Fans of Quentin Tarantino‘s work appreciate his love for spaghetti Westerns, which can be felt in movies such as Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, and even Reservoir Dogs. But the famously opinionated filmmaker is an equally passionate fan of grindhouse movies. He grew up on them in Los Angeles, and even paid homage to them with Death Proof. Released around two decades ago, the movie was presented as part of a double bill with another feature, directed by Robert Rodriguez. The experience was made complete with the inclusion of several fake trailers for “coming attractions.” While Death Proof remains the most overt tribute that Tarantino paid to the grindhouse movies of his youth, the filmmaker made his tastes apparent early in his career, when he cast a grindhouse icon in the titular role of his Pulp Fiction follow-up.

We’re talking, of course, about Jackie Brown, which featured a star-studded ensemble cast including Robert De Niro, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, and others, but was headlined by Pam Grier. The movie revitalized her career, much like Pulp Fiction had done for John Travolta. Grier, the star of blaxploitation cult classics such as Foxy Brown, plays a flight attendant who is forced to work as a drug mule in Jackie Brown. The movie received mostly positive reviews and grossed around $75 million against a reported budget of $12 million.

Collider Exclusive · Action Hero Quiz
Which Action Hero Would Be
Your Perfect Partner?

Rambo · James Bond · Indiana Jones · John McClane · Ethan Hunt

Five legends. Five completely different ways of getting out alive — with style, with muscle, with charm, with luck, or with a plan so intricate it probably shouldn’t work. Ten questions will reveal which action hero was built to have your back.

🎖️Rambo

🍸James Bond

🏺Indiana Jones

🎭Ethan Hunt

01

You’re dropped into a dangerous situation with no warning. What do you need most from a partner?
The first few seconds tell you everything about who belongs beside you.

02

You have to get somewhere dangerous, fast. How do you travel?
How you get there is half the mission.

03

You’re pinned down and outnumbered. What does your ideal partner do?
This is when you find out what someone is really made of.

04

The mission is paused. You have one evening to decompress. What does your partner suggest?
Who someone is when the pressure drops is who they actually are.

05

How do you prefer your partner to communicate mid-mission?
Good communication is the difference between partners and a liability.

06

Your enemy is powerful, well-resourced, and has the upper hand. How should your partner approach them?
The approach to the enemy defines the partnership.

07

Things go badly wrong and you’re captured. What do you trust your partner to do?
Who someone is when you need them most is the only thing that matters.

08

What does your ideal partner bring to the table that you couldn’t replace?
A great partner fills the gap you didn’t know you had.

09

Every partnership has a cost. Which of these can you live with?
No one comes without baggage. The question is whether you can carry it together.

10

It’s the final moment. Everything is on the line. What do you need from your partner right now?
The last question is the most honest one.

Your Partner Has Been Assigned
Your Perfect Partner Is…

Your answers have pointed to one action hero above all others. This is the person built to have your back — for better or considerably, spectacularly worse.

Rambo

Your partner doesn’t talk much, doesn’t need to, and will have assessed every threat in your immediate environment before you’ve finished your first sentence. John Rambo is not a man of plans or politics — he is a force of nature shaped by survival, loyalty, and a capacity for endurance that goes beyond anything training can produce. He will not leave you behind. He has never left anyone behind who deserved to come home. What you get with Rambo is the most capable, most quietly ferocious partner imaginable — one who has been through things that would have broken anyone else, and who chose to keep going anyway. You’ll never need to ask if he has your back. You’ll just know.

James Bond

Your partner will arrive perfectly dressed, perfectly briefed, and with a cover story so convincing it’ll take you a moment to remember what’s actually true. James Bond is the most professionally dangerous person in any room he enters — and the most disarmingly charming, which is the point. He operates in a world of layers, where nothing is what it appears and every advantage is used without apology. You’ll never be bored. You’ll occasionally be furious. But when it matters — when the mission is genuinely on the line and the margin for error has collapsed to nothing — Bond is exactly the partner you want. He has survived things that have no business being survivable. He does it with style. That is not nothing.

Indiana Jones

Your partner will know the history, the language, the cultural context, and exactly why the thing everyone else is ignoring is actually the most important thing in the room. Indiana Jones is brilliant, reckless, and occasionally impossible — but he is also one of the most resourceful, most genuinely knowledgeable partners you could find yourself beside. He approaches every situation with a scholar’s eye and a brawler’s instinct, which is an unusual combination and a remarkably effective one. He hates snakes and gets personally attached to objects of historical significance, both of which will slow you down at least once. It doesn’t matter. What Indy brings is irreplaceable — and the adventures you’ll have together will be the kind people write books about. Assuming you survive them.

John McClane

Your partner was not supposed to be here. He does not have the right equipment, the right information, or anything approaching the right odds. He has a sarcastic remark and an absolute refusal to accept that the situation is as bad as it looks. John McClane is the greatest accidental hero in the history of action cinema — a man whose superpower is stubbornness, whose contingency plan is improvisation, and whose capacity to absorb punishment and keep moving would be alarming if it weren’t so useful. He will complain the entire time. He will make it significantly more chaotic than it needed to be. And he will absolutely, unconditionally, without question come through when it counts. Yippee-ki-yay.

Ethan Hunt

Your partner has already run seventeen scenarios by the time you’ve finished reading the briefing, and the plan he’s settled on involves at least two things that should be physically impossible. Ethan Hunt operates at the absolute edge of human capability — technically, physically, and intellectually — and he brings the same relentless precision to protecting his partners that he brings to dismantling organisations that shouldn’t exist. He is not easy to know and he will never fully tell you everything. But he will carry the weight of the mission so completely, so absolutely, that your job is simply to trust him — and the remarkable thing is that trusting him always turns out to be the right call. The mission will be impossible. He will complete it anyway.

Quentin Tarantino’s Favorite Revenge Movie Is Streaming on MGM+

But we’re here to talk about the movie that Grier is best known for, Coffy. Tarantino was hugely inspired by the 1973 title, directed by Jack Hill. On The Plot Thickens podcast, Tarantino described it as one of his “top 10 favorite movies” and one of his two “favorite revenge movies” of all time. “I don’t want to go too crazy on the idea that Coffy is a great movie. It’s very amateurish, but I do think that Coffy is one of the most entertaining movies ever made; it’s a blast, it’s funny, it’s just a hoot. You’re having an internal struggle in the first 20–30 minutes. Am I laughing at the movie, or am I laughing with the movie? I suspect most audiences might think that they are laughing at the movie. But then, the story starts working.” You can make up your own mind by checking the movie out on MGM+. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.

Lil Yachty & Karrahbooo Debate Who Deserves Credit For Her Music

On Thursday, Sept. 10, Karrahbooo made an appearance on Lil Yachty and Mitch’s ‘A Safe Place’ podcast. During the episode, Karrahbooo had been on for only a short time before the conversation shifted to the pair’s past fallout and disagreements over songwriting.

Karrahbooo appeared frustrated and became emotional as she attempted to explain her perspective, claiming that Yachty had only written one of her four hits. Yachty pushed back on the claim.

“It’s not fair that you try and act like you did this alone, I hate that,” Yachty said.

The two continued going back and forth over Yachty’s contributions to Karrahbooo’s music. Karrahbooo maintained that Yachty only wrote her ‘On The Radar’ freestyle, which she argued isn’t even her biggest record.

The exchange grew increasingly tense as the two continued to defend their perspectives.

Social Media Reacts

Once the clip began circulating online, social media users had plenty to say about the exchange. Some defended Karrahbooo and felt she deserved more recognition for her work, while others criticized her approach to the conversation and sided with Yachty.

Instagram user @tattsonfleek wrote, “So she mad that her career is based off of his skills and because she ahs 3 big songs that he didn’t write. She wants all the credit 😂😂😂”

Another Instagram user @jodysconcepts wrote, “This why healing is important, cause people only wanna focus on your anger as opposed to the fact that she’s obviously being manipulated because one person calmer 😂narcissist can be calm 😂”

Instagram user @the1nonly_ivy_ wrote, “I feel lil yachty is weird… if hes supposed to be a ghost writer then he’s supposed to be ghost 😂😂😂 but he wanna have a ego and be weird and then she’s telling him exactly what she said and he keep deflecting idk”

Another Instagram user @jaydaluvsjayda wrote, “She tripping. People thinking your song sounds so good that yachty had to write it… is a compliment. Take your wins where you can babe.”

While Instagram user @det.vante wrote, “She just gotta stop yelling but he definitely tryna take credit for the work she did 😂😂😂”

Instagram user @theboythattats wrote, “I don’t think she overreacting, he trying to manipulate her and take credit for her HITS, y’all know how this music stuff go especially when you don’t write your own raps”

Karrahbooo & Lil Yachty Address Their Heated Exchange

Following the heated exchange, Karrahbooo and Lil Yachty clarified that the conversation did not actually end when the clip circulated on social media. Karrahbooo took to social media to explain that the discussion had been cut from the episode and that the two had returned to the conversation the following day.

She also pushed back on comments about her reaction, writing, “i’m not a crash out i’m just passionate 😂😌,”

Yachty also encouraged viewers to watch the full interview in response to the conversation surrounding the viral clip.

Rihanna Seemingly Addresses Baby Rumors, Talks "Little Pouch"

Whew, Roommates! It doesn’t look like the clap backs between Papoose and Remy Ma are slowing down anytime soon. After Remy teased her ‘Why I Get Married’ track, Pap came through with some bars of his own on a new song called ‘Jezebel.’ Y’all already know the internet doesn’t hold back! Fans kept it a stack about Pap’s track, with some saying he picked up the WRONG pen for this one. Meanwhile, others think the lyrics are giving he might want that old thang back!

Papoose Addresses His Split With Remy Ma On ‘Jezebel’ Track

If you’ve been out of the loop, Papoose recently came through with his ‘Jezebel’ record, where he gets real about his split from Remy Ma. Pap looks back on holding Remy down while she served six years behind bars from 2008 to 2014. He even claims he’s still being solid by giving her money to this day.

“Jezebel, how could you say I haven’t fed you well?
When you was locked up I brought you food, sent you mail
Jezebel, ask the bond man who sent your bail
To this day, I give you money; did you get the Zelle?”

But chile, that’s all! Pap seemingly threw a lil’ jab at Eazy The Block Captain, whom Remy reportedly dated during her split from Papoose. Pap also accused Remy of lying and claiming that he cheated during their marriage. However, he tells a completely different story, alleging that Remy was actually the one who did him dirty.

“You cheated with a fake Papoose
I never spoke to the public even though it was true
Just kept raisin’ my daughter like a father should do
She cried callin’ your phone; we couldn’t get through
I finally got tired; year number two
Now you make up a lie and said I cheated on you?
How bizarre is this? I always treated you marvelous”

The Internet Heard Pap’s Bars & Said “HOLD UP!”

Once The Shade Room dropped a snippet of Papoose’s track, the comment section went OFF! Some Roomies said the ‘Jezebel’ record sounded more like a love song than a clap back. Meanwhile, others called for Claressa Shields to enter the chat, because they think Pap might still have some feelings for Rem.

Jodie Comer’s ‘Stuffed’ Is Officially the Strangest Movie You’ll Love This Year

Published

on

Stuffed-3

The expectations saddled on a movie musical are difficult to meet. There has to be spectacle, impeccable performances, and amazing music to carry the story until the credits roll. This typically requires massive sets and intricate costumes, all backed by a budget that could also fund an expedition to the moon. These are not easy endeavors, so to see a movie as original and distinct as Stuffed manage to tell a uniquely macabre musical love story so effectively is an achievement.

With bold orchestral arrangements, a gothic visual aesthetic, and amazing performances from leads Jodie Comer and Harry Melling, Stuffed stands out as a triumphant musical experience. It establishes a brutal and unforgiving world with its opening shot and never lets up, all while showcasing the beauty and safety that exists in both love and death. So it’s all the more impressive that this is not an adaptation of an established stage production, but a completely original story from director Theo Rhys and co-writer Joss Holden-Rea, .

What Is Stuffed About?

Stuffed-3 Agile Films

The tragedy begins with a corpse or two; animals, dead or close to it, being dragged from the side of the road by the reclusive taxidermist Araminta (Comer). You can tell from the care that she gives to the deceased creatures that she truly does care for them, in her own way, and that she longs to take care of them for eternity. But Araminta doesn’t just want to care for animals—she longs to stuff a human specimen that she can preserve. She just hasn’t found the right candidate yet.

Next, we meet Bernie (Melling), a hapless nobody toiling away making sandwiches in a factory. It’s here we get a clearer sense of the depressing world of the film, mundane and bleak with grey skies and foggy fields. Bernie is having trouble finding purpose here, and is constantly reminded that the odds are stacked against him. He only wants to be remembered; but with a mother battling dementia who can’t even recall his name, he’s faced with the fact that he’ll never have a meaningful legacy.

This drives Bernie into the arms of Araminta, who slowly cajoles him into giving up his life so that she can ultimately fulfill her own ambitions—he decides to allow himself to be taxidermized so that he, too, may live forever as the first human being to be preserved, stuffed and “immortal.”

From this point, Araminta and Bernie grow closer and learn to understand each other in ways they’ve never been able to with anyone else. This complicates their plans, of course, but not before they force each other to grow and face their own trauma and fears in unexpected ways. It’s not the most original love story, but it’s effective because of its musical backbone, which serves to push the movie even when it starts to drag.

Stuffed ‘s Musical Numbers Steal the Show

Stuffed-2 Agile Films

There’s a moment when you first start watching a movie, a good movie, where something happens early in the runtime and it hits like a punch to the gut. An intricately blocked sequence, a beautifully framed establishing shot, or an editing technique indicating the pace and tone of the journey set to take place. In Stuffed, that moment occurs early on, when the orchestral score swells with sinister, foreboding strings.

The music and score are much more traditional in a musical sense, leaning more towards Les Miserables than the more contemporary Broadway and West End shows that define the medium’s oeuvre nowadays. Cello and violin arrangements are as effective in building the tension as they are at easing it. And the vocal performances from Comer and Melling match the instrumentation, allowing both performers to rise and fall with the music in climactic and dramatic ways. Both are impressive and provide enough variety to carry what is essentially a two-hander musical, even though the opening scene makes use of a wide cast of singers.

And it would not be a musical without set pieces. For the most part, Stuffed is subdued and shot like Tim Burton was working on an indie budget. The aesthetic is gothic but not surreal; it’s definitely of a certain late-’80s-to-early-’90s time period. It is filmed intimately, so don’t expect to see grandiose dance numbers with backup dancers filling the space just for the sake of a musical number.

But the big acts in the film are earned by the story, such as when Bernie makes a show about quitting his job in a feint to convince his coworkers that he’s probably suicidal (an effort to lay the groundwork for his eventual disappearance, so that he can be, you know, stuffed). It doesn’t go over, because Bernie isn’t memorable, so he finds newfound confidence in his relationship with Araminta and tries again—this time, there’s a lot more pomp and circumstance, and a dash of class warfare.

The film’s best musical sequence occurs when the pair fake Bernie’s death with a suicide note, some extracted teeth, and an exploding car. The joy of Bernie letting go of his past life, of giving in to Araminta’s needs, and the two finding strength in each other whilst the vehicle erupts into flames behind them, gives way to an unexpected connection, setting up the epic number “Nothing’s Changed.” This is the greatest moment of the movie, and the most quintessential musical number of the show. If it were on stage, it would be perfectly timed to lead into the intermission; here, it sets up a final act that escalates until the credits roll.

Jodie Comer and Harry Melling Will Break Your Heart

instar53860134.jpg
Headshot Of Jodie Comer In The Premiere Of The Bikeriders

Stuffed is most effective when it is simplest. It uses identifiable tropes from modern filmmaking, such as the use of blue and gold lighting and color grading to portray the dichotomy of life and death, realism and romanticism, practicality and optimism. Many scenes are filmed in dark houses or brutalist factories, creating a world where it’s difficult just to go on living.

It evokes a sense of safety in death, which Araminta promises to Bernie at every step of their journey. The rural setting provides vast and foggy fields that add to the film’s gloom, while the interior locations all have a rustic charm, even if they’re slightly evocative of a Tim Burton production. The amount of detail and care packed into Stuffed, with the budget that it has, is impressive in nearly every frame.

But while the production is inspiring, and the music and performances are great, the film’s script tends to overstay its welcome. There are moments where it lulls with minor musical interludes to carry some of the weight. The entire stretch where Araminta coaxes Bernie into her plans is a little flat, though we do get some great flashes of the characters’ idiosyncrasies in these scenes, including a funny bit with a jar of toenails.

These lulls cease as the characters’ romance grows, and their charm begins to take over the screen. By the time we get to the final act, everything has escalated to a degree that you can only expect in a movie like this. And when the conclusion finally hits, its impact has an emotional weight comparable to some of the best stage shows you can find in a theater. It’s tragic, poetic, and hauntingly beautiful, all at once. There are some concessions in the plot and some logical fallacies, but fans of musicals are likely to oblige them, as it’s no different from many other popular shows. Stuffed creates its own world and lives in it, confidently and comfortably.

The ultimate triumph of Stuffed, as a wholly original musical film with a twisted plot, is how cohesively all the elements come together. Built off the backbone of an epic soundtrack, two powerhouse performances, and the vision of Rhys and Holden-Rea, the movie manages to capture the dread of loneliness and insignificance, and effectively replaces it with acceptance and belonging. We might not ever get another musical like Stuffed, so cherish this one because it’s actually here.
