Meghan McCain Seemingly Supports AOC’s Fertility Journey

Meghan McCain Slams Trolls Calling Her Old and Ugly Tells Body Shammers Im Going to Age

Conservative pundit Meghan McCain seemingly showed support for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez amid the Democratic politician’s fertility journey.

“As one of the few women left in conservative media who isn’t trying to live a trad wife life or peddle trad wife content — a lot of you sound so weird and mean talking about fertility, pregnancy, post partum,” McCain, 41, tweeted on Monday, August 17.

She then warned Republicans, “You’re scaring the normies. And you’re gonna need them in ‘28.”

While McCain did not directly address Ocasio-Cortez, 36, by name, there has been a heated discourse among conservatives around her recent decision to freeze her eggs. The congresswoman announced on August 8 that she felt “empowered” by making such an important fertility decision.

Related: Meghan McCain Slams Trolls Calling Her ‘Old and Ugly’: ‘I’m Going to Age’

Meghan McCain is shutting down trolls who called her “old and ugly,” revealing she is aging just like everyone else. “I am normally an Armadillo-skinned person, and there’s been a lot of commentary about how ‘old and ugly’ I am now,” McCain, 41, said during the Wednesday, July 22, of her and Miranda Wilkins’ “Citizen […]

“I want to share with you all a decision that is very personal that I have made that has taken me time to consider, weigh and save up for,” she said via her Instagram Stories at the time. “And it is of a sensitive matter and a personal matter and usually I keep my private life quite private, but I have made the decision to start freezing my eggs.”

However, many on the right criticized Ocasio-Cortez for her career aspirations, her age and more after learning she was freezing her eggs.

The New York representative addressed the backlash via an Instagram Story Q&A on Wednesday, August 12, when someone encouraged her to “ignore the idiotic Republican men saying dumb things.”

“They hate me ‘cause they ain’t me, and they can’t ever be me,” she wrote alongside a photo of her flashing a smile to the camera.

Criticism from conservatives has continued in recent days, though Ocasio-Cortez assured supporters that she did not regret publicly sharing her fertility journey.

“One question that I received earlier is do I regret coming out publicly about this due to all of the political negativity and the larger political context, and especially this idea that, for me, I’m quite young in my career — especially when it comes to politics — so would the backlash around this have any future impact on my career and do I regret it for those reasons,” Ocasio-Cortez said via her Instagram Story on Saturday, August 15.

“And the answer to that simply is — no. I was born a woman. Period,” she went on. “And I have no control over that, and I wouldn’t want to change that. And the way I feel is any negativity or judgement that I would receive at any point is negativity that I would receive for being a woman whether I shared this information or not, and so I might as well help others.”

The Democratic congresswoman has represented New York City’s 14th congressional district since January 2019.

One Usher fan was kicked off the stage during a performance in Nashville after she refused to participate in the segment once on the stage. Another spicy performance by Brown, with a fan in Canada, was criticized for being too graphic. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are reunite as they attend a Halloween event at their kids school

Ben Affleck marked his 54th birthday with a low-key family gathering in Santa Monica, joined by his ex-wife Jennifer Garner and their children.

The celebration comes shortly after the death of his mother, Chris Anne Affleck, who died on June 2 at age 83 following a battle with cancer.

Ben Affleck was photographed at the upscale market Farmshop with his sons Fin, 17, and Samuel, 14, while Garner was also spotted at the same location, showcasing the pair’s bond with their children as co-parents.

The birthday celebration marks Affleck’s first without his mother, whose passing has profoundly affected the actor and his brother, Casey Affleck.

A source told People Magazine about how the actor was coping: “Losing your mom is an unimaginable loss at any age, and they’re grieving deeply.”

The source added that the family is supported “by an incredible support system, and their kids have been a real source of comfort and strength during this heartbreaking time.” As reported, the family leans on one another, and they’ll “get through it together.”

Now, according to images obtained by the Daily Mail, Affleck spent part of his birthday with his children, Fin and Samuel, at an outing in Santa Monica as he did last year.

The trio was spotted at a Farmshop, dressing casually with Affleck in a striped shirt, dark trousers and shades.

Garner was also reportedly seen at the same Farmshop, although the former couple was not photographed together. The former couple also share a daughter, Violet, 20, who wasn’t present during the recent birthday outing.

The passing of Affleck’s mother was first announced by the family last month through an obituary in the Boston Globe. She was diagnosed with pancreatic adenocarcinoma in December 2025 and was reportedly given six months to live.

In her death certificate obtained by US Weekly, the late mother of two died from cardiopulmonary arrest while “visiting her son’s residence” in Los Angeles.

As noted in the obituary, Chris’ “greatest wish” after her diagnosis was to see her grandson graduate from high school.

She achieved that goal on May 31 in attendance with her family, two days before she died “peacefully in her sleep.”

Affleck’s mother was a grandmother to five grandchildren, namely Indiana, 22; Violet; Atticus, 18; Fin; and Sam, who were referred to as “the animating force of her last two decades.”

Chris Anne was born in New York City in 1942. As a Harvard graduate, she spent 35 years educating in a public school in Massachusetts.

As stated in the obituary, Chris was a committed civil rights activist who taught literacy classes in Mississippi during the Freedom Summer of 1964. She reportedly marched against the Vietnam War and “reveled in 1960s counterculture.”

In a 2012 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck spoke proudly of his mother, saying, “My mother taught public school, went to Harvard and then got her master’s there and taught fifth and sixth grade in a public school.”

Chris was fairly instrumental in launching the acting career of the ‘Good Will Hunting’ star. She reportedly connected her son to casting director Patty Collins, who was her roommate at Harvard.

The recent gathering at Affleck’s 54th birthday celebration highlights the wholesome co-parenting relationship between Affleck and Garner, who were married from 2005 to 2015.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Garner claimed Affleck’s reliability as a parent gave her freedom in her career. The ‘Five Star Weekend’ actress said in the report, “There is a time in your life where you just do get caught up in all of that, and that’s okay.”

She added that “Nothing is forever. That’s a season. And it’s a beautiful thing. And I wouldn’t trade a minute of it. But I feel like my kids are a little bigger. Their dad has become this incredible co-parent.”

Affleck has reportedly also offered similar praise. According to Today, the actor said, “I’m really lucky that I have a really good co-parent and partner in Jennifer Garner, the kids’ mom, who’s wonderful and great and we work together well.”

The pair have maintained a supportive dynamic, with Garner repeatedly attending the 54-year-old’s birthday celebration.

HBO’s Harry Potter Officially Confirms the Biggest Change From the Movies

Published

on

harry-potter-poster.jpg

Harry Potter is a series that is full of iconic imagery and distinctive marks scattered all over the Wizarding World. But there’s one above all else that has become utterly synonymous with the Boy Who Lived from the very beginning, the one telltale sign that Harry Potter is indeed the one who vanquished the Dark Lord, He Who Must Not Be Named, and lived to tell the tale. And now, one of the franchise’s most famous images is getting a noticeable makeover.

HBO’s adaptation of J.K. Rowling‘s beloved novels will debut on Christmas Day, and the network has just dropped its clearest look yet at Dominic McLaughlin’s redesigned scar, confirming that the new Harry Potter will look distinctly different from Daniel Radcliffe‘s Boy Who Lived. The latest version of the scar appeared prominently in promotional material for this year’s Back to Hogwarts celebration.

Radcliffe’s scar in the Warner Bros. movies was a relatively clean and precise lightning bolt — to be honest, it looked like it had just been drawn on with a pencil — consisting of three sharp, straight lines, but McLaughlin’s version is considerably rougher. The new scar is jagged and uneven, resembling an actual wound rather than a neatly drawn lightning symbol.

Arrakis · Dune

Paul Atreides

You carry a weight most people would crumble under — the knowledge of what you’re capable of, and the burden of what you might have to become.

  • You see further ahead than others and you plan accordingly, even when the vision frightens you.
  • You are driven by loyalty to your people and a sense of destiny you didn’t ask for but can’t escape.
  • Paul Atreides is not simply a hero — he is someone who understands the cost of power and chooses to bear it anyway.
  • That gravity, that willingness to carry what others won’t, is exactly you.

USS Enterprise · Star Trek

Captain Kirk

You lead with instinct, warmth, and an absolute refusal to accept a no-win scenario — because you’ve always believed there’s a third option nobody else has thought of yet.

  • You take the mission seriously without ever taking yourself too seriously.
  • Your crew would follow you anywhere, not because you demand it, but because you’ve earned it.
  • Kirk’s genius isn’t tactical — it’s human. He reads people, bends rules with purpose, and wills outcomes into existence through sheer conviction.
  • That combination of warmth, audacity, and relentless optimism is unmistakably yours.

The Rebellion · Star Wars

Princess Leia

You are the kind of person who holds the line when everyone else is losing faith — not because you’re fearless, but because giving up simply isn’t something you’re capable of.

  • You lead through conviction. Your voice carries because your belief is unshakeable.
  • You gave up everything ordinary the moment you chose the cause, and you’ve never looked back.
  • Leia is not a supporting character in her own story — she is the moral centre of the entire rebellion.
  • That same fierce, principled, unbreakable core is what defines you.

The Nostromo · Alien

Ellen Ripley

You are not reckless, not grandiose, and not particularly interested in being anyone’s hero — you just refuse to stop when it matters.

  • You see threats clearly, you document the truth even when no one listens, and when the time comes you handle it yourself.
  • Ripley’s heroism is earned, not performed. She doesn’t have a speech — she has a flamethrower and a plan.
  • You share her composure under the worst possible pressure, and her refusal to pretend the monster isn’t there.
  • When it counts, you don’t flinch. That’s everything.

The Wasteland · Mad Max

Max Rockatansky

You have been through fire that would break most people — and what came out the other side is something the world underestimates at its peril.

  • You don’t ask for help, don’t need validation, and don’t wait for anyone to tell you the rules no longer apply.
  • Your loyalty, when it finally arrives, is absolute — but it’s earned in silence and tested in action, not in words.
  • Max is not a nihilist. He is someone who lost everything and found, against his will, that he still has something worth protecting.
  • That bruised, stubborn, ultimately human core is exactly yours.

Why Does Harry Potter Have His Scar?

The scar is much more than a distinguishing feature for Harry. As a baby, he survived Lord Voldemort’s attempt to murder him with the Killing Curse after his mother Lily sacrificed herself to protect him. Voldemort’s curse rebounded, destroying his body and leaving Harry with the lightning-shaped mark on his forehead. Harry spends the first decade of his life believing the Dursleys’ lie that his parents died in a car crash and that the scar came from the accident. It’s only after Hagrid arrives that Harry learns what actually happened.

The redesigned scar has already been visible in footage from HBO’s adaptation, including scenes featuring McLaughlin’s Harry at his Muggle school and travelling through London with. Aunt Petunia’s book-accurate and hilariously bad haircutting skills conveniently hide portions of it in some scenes, but other shots provide a much clearer look.

Fans will get another look at the series during the annual Back to Hogwarts celebration on September 1, ahead of Harry Potter’s premiere on HBO on December 25, 2026.

10 Best Sci-Fi Books of the 1980s

Published

on

Firestarer-Stephen-King

The 1980s were an exciting time for sci-fi, as the political climate and shifting technological landscape gave writers a lot to work with. Personal computers were becoming increasingly important, biotechnology was advancing, and the Cold War still held the world in its grip; the genre responded by becoming stranger and darker.

Many of the classics of that time are bleak and paranoid, suggesting that technology might create just as many problems for humanity as it solves. For this reason, some 1980s sci-fi novels have aged very well. Here are a few of the finest of them.

‘Firestarter’ (1980)

Firestarer-Stephen-King
Firestarter cover by Stephen King

“Some abilities are too dangerous for anyone to control.” With Firestarter, Stephen King took some ideas he’d touched on with Carrie but gave them a more action-packed, overtly sci-fi treatment. The book tells the story of Andy McGee and his daughter Charlie, who has extraordinary abilities because of a government experiment in which Andy and his future wife participated years earlier. Charlie can generate fire with her mind. This makes her an enormously valuable weapon to the clandestine agency known as the Shop.

The plot unfolds as a relentless pursuit. At its core, Firestarter is a paranoid thriller that rhymes thematically with 1970s bangers such as The Parallax View, which were very suspicious about the government and its secrets. Many books and movies have borrowed from it. Decades later, King’s son Joe Hill, too, would pay significant homage to Firestarter in his own novel The Fireman.

‘The Uplift War’ (1987)

Uplift War book0

“Humanity isn’t alone—and certainly isn’t in charge.” This space opera takes place largely on the planet Garth, where avian aliens known as the Gubru seize control while humanity is embroiled in a much larger interstellar conflict. Humans and their uplifted chimpanzee allies must navigate occupation, resistance, alien politics, and the complicated rules governing Galactic civilization. It’s a colorful, sweeping tale of space-age culture clash.

Here, author David Brin imagines an ancient interstellar society in which humanity is a strange newcomer surrounded by alien species whose civilizations stretch back millions of years. In addition to the Gubru, there are the Tymbrimi, who have tentacles on their threads that can shift and form symbols; as well as the Thennanin, 7-foot-tall telepathic reptilians, and even genetically engineered neo-dolphins and neo-gorillas. At the core of all this is “uplift”, where pre-sapient animals are modified to achieve higher intelligence.

‘Ender’s Game’ (1985)

“The enemy’s gate is down.” The movie adaptation was disappointing, but the Ender’s Game novel remains a classic. With it, Orson Scott Card took the familiar premise of humanity preparing for war against an alien civilization and focused it through the perspective of a brilliant child. Andrew “Ender” Wiggin is recruited into Battle School because military leaders believe his unusual combination of intelligence, empathy, and ruthlessness could make him humanity’s greatest commander.

Through increasingly difficult simulations and games, Ender learns to think about conflict in entirely new ways while remaining largely unaware of how completely the adults around him are controlling his development. Card makes the Battle Room sequences especially memorable by turning zero-gravity combat into a series of tactical puzzles. Yet the novel’s enduring power comes from the moral consequences of that training, and the themes continue to hit hard.

‘Speaker for the Dead’ (1986)

Speaker for the Dead book0

“Understanding can be more difficult than victory.” Speaker for the Dead is the sequel to Ender’s Game. Rather than treading the ground of the first book, the novel changes direction considerably, in a good way, transforming Ender’s story into an exploration of guilt. Thousands of years have passed through the effects of relativistic space travel, and Ender now travels between human colonies working as a Speaker for the Dead, a person who tells the complete truth about someone who has died.

In this case, he writes about the dormant Formic Queen whom he secretly carries. At the same time, Ender travels to the planet Lusitania, where he encounters a community divided by secrets and a mysterious indigenous species known as the pequeninos, whose behavior humans repeatedly misinterpret. The central conflict therefore becomes one of understanding rather than conquest.

‘Life, the Universe and Everything’ (1982)

life, the universe and everything book0

“The universe is ridiculous enough without anyone trying to destroy it.” Life, the Universe and Everything is the wonderful third installment in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Having perfected his recipe of sci-fi crossed with absurdist comedy, Douglas Adams expands the series into a genuine universe-threatening adventure. In it, Arthur Dent once again finds himself dragged across space and time, eventually becoming involved in an attempt to prevent the inhabitants of the planet Krikkit from destroying the rest of the universe.

Naturally, the resulting story involves bizarre technology, impossible coincidences, robots, aliens, and hilarious digressions that are often more memorable than the central plot itself. Adams’ genius lies in treating big-brain sci-fi concepts as opportunities for philosophical jokes. Artificial intelligence, time travel, interstellar warfare, and the nature of existence are simultaneously taken seriously and rendered completely silly, often within the same paragraph.

“The universe is a pretty big place.” Although best known for his nonfiction science communication, particularly the landmark book and TV series Cosmos, Carl Sagan also penned one of the best sci-fi novels ever. Contact (later made into a film by Robert Zemeckis) centers on Ellie Arroway, whose lifelong search for extraterrestrial intelligence finally produces an astonishing result when an unmistakably artificial signal arrives from the star Vega. Hidden within the transmission are instructions for constructing an enormously complicated machine.

Governments and scientists all around the world are left scrambling to determine what the device does and whether humanity should risk building it. Sagan gets incredibly thoughtful with this premise. Scientists debate the signal’s meaning, governments compete for influence, religious movements respond to its implications, and all of humanity is forced to confront how little it truly understands about the universe.

‘The Shadow of the Torturer’ (1980)

The Shadow of the Torturer Book cover Image via Simon & Schuster

“The future can become so old that it resembles the past.” This is the opening entry in the masterful Book of the New Sun series, a seminal sci-fi/fantasy hybrid. Our protagonist is Severian, an apprentice in the Guild of Torturers who is exiled after showing mercy to a prisoner. His journey through the immense city of Nessus and beyond exposes readers to forgotten technologies, ancient institutions, bizarre creatures, and fragments of history whose true meanings are rarely explained directly.

Author Gene Wolfe trusts readers to interpret his world for themselves. Severian is an unreliable narrator, as well, meaning that every detail potentially contains information that only becomes meaningful much later. For that reason, The Shadow of the Torturer rewards rereading. The world-building here is simply rich, too, full of visions, seemingly magical gems, and a badass sword named Terminus Est.

‘Foundation’s Edge’ (1982)

Foundation's Edge book0

“The closer to the truth, the better the lie, and the truth itself, when it can be used, is the best lie.” Foundation’s Edge is the fourth book in Isaac Asimov‘s landmark Foundation series, arriving a full thirty years after the first three stories. It picks up centuries into the Foundation’s grand project of shortening humanity’s coming dark age, as councilman Golan Trevize begins to suspect that the supposedly destroyed Second Foundation is still secretly manipulating events.

His investigation sends him and historian Janov Pelorat across the galaxy, gradually transforming a political mystery into a search for something far stranger. Although not as good as its predecessors, Foundation’s Edge is still a respectable achievement. In particular, it revisits ideas the author first developed in the 1940s and ’50s without simply repeating them. The result is a cerebral space opera with a lot of philosophical heft.

‘Hyperion’ (1989)

Hyperion book cover Image via Doubleday

“Every pilgrim has a story.” Few science fiction novels combine as many different traditions as confidently as Hyperion. With it, writer Dan Simmons draws on space opera, horror, literary fiction, cyberpunk, romance, religion, and the structure of Chaucer‘s Canterbury Tales to create a truly unique experience. In the novel, seven pilgrims travel toward the mysterious Time Tombs on the planet Hyperion, where they expect to encounter the terrifying creature known as the Shrike (one of the genre’s most fascinating creations).

During their journey, each traveler recounts the events that brought them there, with every story adopting a different tone and subgenre. One account becomes military science fiction, another resembles detective noir, while others explore tragedy, horror, artificial intelligence, religion, and time itself. Even more importantly, the character development is just as thorough and convincing as the world-building.

‘Neuromancer’ (1984)

“The future arrived wearing mirrored shades.” This is the ur-text of cyberpunk. Neuromancer centers on Case, a former hacker whose ability to enter cyberspace has been chemically destroyed after he betrayed his employers. Offered the chance to regain that power, he joins a mysterious operation involving mercenary Molly Millions, powerful corporations, artificial intelligence, and secrets hidden within the digital world.

Along the way, author William Gibson immerses us in a vision of the future that’s grimy, globalized, commercially saturated, and technologically astonishing. In the process, he pioneered several concepts and terms (including “cyberspace” itself) and predicted things like widespread internet access and megacorporations that wield almost as much power as governments. At the same time, he doesn’t scrimp on the atmosphere, conjuring up a striking mood of danger, seduction, and rebel cool. Not for nothing, this banger took home both the Hugo and the Nebula.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

AMC’s Overlooked 3-Season Martial Arts Series Is the Perfect Weekend Binge

Published

on

Daniel Wu walking through a snowy tundra in 'Into the Badlands'.

The streaming boom has given us a treasure trove of TV shows that would never would have been made in the decades prior, but many of them were cut tragically short. These shows can be heartbreaking when you dwell on how much potential was squandered, but if you accept them as they are, they make for a perfect weekend binge-watch. Into the Badlands is a perfect example. The show aired just 3 seasons — 32 episodes — between 2015 and 2019, and fans grieve for the extra seasons that couldn’t be made. Tragic as it is, the short run of the series does make for an incredible 32-hour binge.

Into the Badlands was created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and it aired on AMC. It’s a post-apocalyptic action-drama set about 500 years in the future, at a time when modern governments have collapsed and technology has regressed. It is set in the region between the Rocky Mountains and the Mississippi River, known colloquially as the Badlands. It explores martial arts, politics, and even touches on spirituality. The series is streaming now on AMC+, and it’s definitely worth the watch.

It’s often said that “Hollywood is out of ideas,” and that the industry relies too much on reboots, remakes, and adaptations. For those who feel that way, Into the Badlands is the cure. This show was not adapted from anything, though it did take some narrative views from the classic Chinese legend Journey to the West. Of course, the scribes who set that story down in the 16th Century knew nothing about the Rocky Mountains, cars, or electrical grids, so it’s safe to say this show goes in its own direction.

The main characters here are Sunny (Daniel Wu) and M.K. (Aramis Knight). Sunny is a hardened warrior and the right hand the Badlands’ most powerful Baron, Quinn (Marton Csokas.) M.K. is a teenage boy who seems to have a mysterious power hidden beneath the surface. The two travel through this wasteland together, navigating a world that has descended into ruthless feudalism despite the inhabitants’ yearning for peace.

The Badlands are ruled by a wary alliance of “Barons,” who control all trade between communities. They enforce their dominance with warriors known as Clippers — young men and women who are forbidden from marrying or having children. Clippers are led by another class of warrior known as Regents, such as Sunny. This brutal society has other classes — slaves known as “cogs” and “dolls” — while those outside the baronies are generally known as Nomads. These include individuals, tribes, and even religious groups.

The show builds an amazingly vast fantasy world within a relatively small territory by today’s standards. The characters often wonder and fantasize about what’s going on beyond their borders, but the societal collapse means they have no global communication. Some technology remains, such as ground vehicles and limited electricity, but firearms are strictly taboo. This gives the setting its distinct martial arts aesthetic, as clippers must rely on melee weapons and crossbows.

The Highs and Lows of Binge-Watching Canceled Shows

The greatest drawback of watching a canceled show is the question of how it ends, but Into the Badlands is fortunate in this regard. Without spoiling anything, the show has a relatively satisfying ending, even if fans wished it had gone on longer. Without spoiling anything, the characters developed a lot over the course of the series, and they aren’t left in some heartbreaking, unresolved place. The story could have gone on, and some might describe the ending as a “cliffhanger,” but in truth it’s a lot more satisfying than many shows get in today’s day and age.

That said, it can be hard to look back at an older show with new titles premiering all the time — especially with social pressure to keep up. Into the Badlands is worth it, and its 32-hour run-time makes it easy to schedule. The show is ideal for a lazy weekend or two at home, with no need to wait for a new episode to drop. It’s all available on one subscription, and it’s presented without ads. It’s refreshing to enjoy a piece of media after the dust has settled, with no pressure to feel a certain way about it.

Perhaps the best part of watching a canceled show is belatedly joining a strong fandom, and Into the Badlands provides that as well. The show inspired thoughtful fan art and discussion that is a joy to jump into after watching. It opens up a whole new world of references, and before long you’ll be catching allusions in other works wherever you look. The show is relatively popular for cosplayers as well, so if you attend conventions you may have seen it already without realizing. Into the Badlands is streaming now on AMC+ in the U.S.

Before His ‘Star Wars’ Crossover, Kevin Smith Officially Unites Two Classic Marvel Heroes

Published

on

spider-man-brand-new-day-poster-2.jpg

Kevin Smith has most prominently made his mark on pop culture as a filmmaker, establishing the View Askewniverse with the classic Clerks and expanding to more ambitious, weird, and comedic places from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back to Chasing Amy and Tusk. However, as an avid comic fan, his work has also extended to the page. He’s not only used the medium for more View Askewniverse stories, but has also created some memorable storylines for Marvel and DC characters like Daredevil, Green Arrow, and even Batman. With the announcement earlier this month that the superheroes of Earth-616 would collide with the characters from a galaxy far, far away for the first time in the crossover event Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles, it’s no surprise then that the multihyphenate icon was tapped to pen the historic five-part limited series.

Featuring art by David Marquez, the comic will release in January 2027, just in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Wars. It’s a collaboration that’s been envisioned for decades, and the cover artwork teases the possibilities of the crossover, with Luke Skywalker and Captain America among the heroes standing together against the united might of Darth Vader, Doctor Doom, Thanos, and more. Events will unfold on Earth when a powerful spell conjures the events of A New Hope on the planet. While fans wait for the momentous occasion when these two massive, iconic worlds collide, Smith has another Marvel story on the way centering on two beloved Avengers who recently shared the big screen together.

Marvel Comics shared the official preview for Spider-Man/Hulk: Fire & Brimstone, a new series penned by Smith and long-time collaborator Andy McElfresh that promises thwip-smashing action and plenty of quips. The early pages waste no time delivering on both fronts, either. A cadre of villains, including Sandman, Mole Man, Stilt Man, Molten Man, and more, are seen wreaking havoc on a church, and delivering one painful pun after another related to their powers. That is until Spidey swings onto the scene, stopping Absorbing Man from bringing his ball-and-chain down on the priest and sending everyone scrambling to flee with the cash they stole. Plant Man is able to tie up the web-head and clear a path for Sandman and Mole Man to make a break for it, but just as Peter laments the lack of a partner to appreciate his quips, Hulk enters the picture with an almighty smash to bury the baddies before they can get away.

You carry the weight of the world on shoulders that are younger than they should have to be — funny, loyal, and endlessly self-sacrificing.

  • You do the right thing not because it’s easy, but because no one else will.
  • You understand that responsibility isn’t a burden you choose — it’s one that finds you.
  • Whether it’s a neighbourhood mugging or a multiverse crisis, you show up.
  • Peter Parker’s lesson — that great power demands great responsibility — isn’t a slogan to you. It’s the code you live by, even when it costs you everything.

Hell’s Kitchen, New York

😈 Daredevil

You fight in the shadows between law and chaos, guided by a fierce moral compass that refuses to let the guilty walk free.

  • You use every tool available — your mind, your body, your faith — to protect those the system overlooks.
  • You’ve looked into the darkness and chosen not to become it, though the line has never been easy.
  • Matt Murdock’s duality — champion in the courtroom, devil in the alley — mirrors your own.
  • Relentless, conflicted, and unwilling to stop. That is exactly you.

Brilliant, driven, and occasionally insufferable — but always the person who solves the unsolvable problem.

  • You lead with your mind and back it up with resources, innovation, and a stubbornness that borders on heroic.
  • You started out looking out for yourself, but somewhere along the way the world became your responsibility.

You’ve been through fire that would break most people — and it did change you, completely. What’s left is unyielding, relentless, and operating by a code forged in grief.

  • You don’t ask for forgiveness, and you don’t expect gratitude.
  • You see a corrupt, broken world and you’ve decided to do something about it, consequences be damned.
  • Frank Castle’s war is born from love twisted by loss — and so is yours.

You believe in something bigger than yourself — and you fight for it even when the world has moved on and nobody else will.

  • You don’t bully the small guy, and you never stop when it gets hard.
  • Steve Rogers didn’t become a hero when he got the serum — he was always one. So were you.

‘Spider-Man/Hulk’ Will Feature the Exorcism of Bruce Banner’s Jade Demon

Amid Spidey’s many puns and Hulk’s rampage, Fire and Brimstone will tell a story with religious themes within the Marvel Universe. It unfolds as Easter Mass in Central Park is interrupted by the many Man-themed villains as seen above. Peter Parker and Bruce Banner save the day in their own ways, but Banner has another purpose for the church once they’ve driven off its attackers. He’s long wrestled with the furious Jade Giant within him, and, instead of science, he’s resorting to an exorcism to separate himself from the Hulk. Smith is no stranger to exploring religion, between his 1999 film Dogma and his Guardian Devil comic run, but this will be his first time putting the Hulk front and center in one of his stories.

Artwork for the new series is done by the great R.B. Silva, known for his work at Marvel with the X-Men, One World Under Doom, and much more. Silva also designed the cover, though several big names are being brought in to craft variants, including Marco Checchetto, Rose Besch, Ryan Stegman, and Skottie Young. For Smith, it’s the latest addition to what’s been a busy year of comic creation, as he’s also brought his signature View Askew characters into the Marvel Universe with the special Jays of Future Past and sent his stoner duo to Riverdale with the double-sized Archie Meets Jay & Silent Bob.

Spider-Man/Hulk: Fire and Brimstone releases its first issue on August 19. Check out the preview of Bruce and Peter’s new team-up in the gallery above.

“Save the cheerleader, save the world.” Everyone knows where that iconic tagline comes from and who it refers to – Heroes’ unlikely high school avenger, Claire Bennett. Played by Panettiere across four uneven seasons, Claire was the show’s unlikely entry point and the one character who changed the most during its run.

NBC’s Heroes was packed with shocking twists and turns that still have fans reeling, years after the show’s 2010 finale. The show, which ran for 4 seasons from 2006 to 2010, followed seemingly ordinary people who discover that they have supernatural abilities and are forced to band together to prevent life-changing disasters. Heroes’ first season remains its best, and that’s due to its focus on Claire slowly discovering her powers – and that there are other superpowered people just like her. In many ways, Panettiere was the best Supergirl we never really got – a blonde bombshell who was far more dangerous and complicated than she initially appeared to be. If there’s one role Panettiere will be known for, it’s this one.

Heroes is streaming on Netflix.

‘I Love You, Beth Cooper’ (2009)

While still on Heroes, Panettiere headlined her own moderately successful teen comedy, I Love You, Beth Cooper. She plays the titular object of affection for high school nerd Denis Cooverman (Paul Rust), who just graduated at the top of his class but only wants one thing – Beth. He invites her and several of her friends to a house party on graduation night, but Denis’ path to love is paved with one obstruction after another.

Directed by Home Alone filmmaker Chris Columbus, I Love You, Beth Cooper doesn’t reinvent the teen comedy, but it doesn’t traffic in genre cliches either. Instead, it tells a sweet story about two loners who connect before life separates them for good. Panettiere plays another cheerleader, but her Beth is more soulful and complex than even Denis realizes.

The biggest hit of Panettiere’s career was surprisingly Nashville, which ran for six seasons on ABC and CMT. Because Nashville was about the city’s country music scene, the show featured a lot of songs and performances, with Panettiere writing and performing several original songs like “Wrong Song,” a duet with Britton’s Rayna, and “Nothing In This World Will Ever Break My Heart Again,” which actually charted on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. Panettiere was nominated for Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film Golden Globe in 2013 and 2014, and the show won Most Exciting New Series at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards in 2012.

All six seasons of Nashville are streaming for free on Pluto TV.

‘Scream 4’ (2011)

Scream 4 didn’t get a lot of love when it was first released, but it’s since become a favorite for fans of the franchise. A big reason why is due to Panettiere’s Kirby Reed, a supporting character who somehow stole the limelight from the film’s two female leads, Emma Roberts and Neve Campbell.

Scream 4’s best scene occurs when Kirby is forced to play horror trivia on the phone with Ghostface to save love interest Charlie (Rory Culkin), a dorky classmate who is being held captive outside. Being a horror fan, Kirby outsmarts Ghostface by providing every possible answer to his purposefully vague question about which film started the horror POV trend. It’s a stand-up-and-cheer moment, and Panettiere makes the most of it. The actress made Kirby such a likable character that her indecisive death (she seemingly bleeds out offscreen) left enough room for her to be revived in a later sequel, and that wouldn’t have happened if Panettiere hadn’t made Kirby so damn awesome to watch.

Scream 4 is streaming for free on Sling TV. You can also stream it on Paramount+.

With Neve Campbell sitting this sequel out, one of Scream VI’s main selling points was the return of Panettiere’s Kirby to the newly revitalized franchise. The horror film fan is now an FBI agent, and she teams up with Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers to find the new Ghostface before he, she or they strike again.

Hayden Panettiere’s family is mourning the actress’ tragic death at age 36. “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” her father, Skip Panettiere, said in a statement to Us on Sunday, August 16. “She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love […]

Kirby is again a side character, ceding the spotlight to Melissa Barrera’s Sam and Jenna Ortega’s Tara, but she once again steals every scene she’s in, showing her trademark knowledge of slashers combined with her tough-as-nails approach to her investigation. The film does make you wonder a bit if Kirby herself is the real killer, but no one would buy the fan-favorite character as a cold-blooded serial killer. Kirby is too cool for that, and so was Panettiere.
