Netflix’s Giant Shark Movie That Rivaled Jason Statham’s ‘The Meg’ Gets a Major Sequel Update
Giant sharks aren’t leaving our screens anytime soon. Back in 2024, Netflix took its own stab at the sharksploitation genre with Under Paris, a French horror thriller that saw Paris beset by a mutated variant of the predator big enough to rival The Meg lurking within the Seine River as the city prepared to hold the World Triathlon Championships. Despite debuting to mixed reviews, it exploded on the platform, becoming its second-most-watched non-English film ever, behind only Troll. All the success, unsurprisingly, earned Xavier Gens‘ film a sequel, and now, nearly two years later, a new report has confirmed who will continue the shark-infested carnage.
Another prominent French director, Alexandre Aja, is set to take the reins in Gens’ place for Under Paris 2. At this time, it’s unknown why Gens stepped away, but his replacement is a strong fit nonetheless, having become a known commodity when it comes to water-based creature features, including the campy Piranha 3D and the crocodile disaster flick Crawl. He also helmed the widely-praised and much darker 2006 remake of The Hills Have Eyes and, most recently, took on the under-the-radar Halle Berry supernatural mystery Never Let Go for Lionsgate. Netflix has yet to announce who is writing the script or if Gens will be back in any other capacity for the follow-up. When the sequel was first announced, he was said to be developing with hopes of filming beginning in the fall of 2025.
Plot details for the Under Paris sequel have yet to be shared, but it’s expected to bring back star Bérénice Bejo to reprise her role as marine biologist Sophia Assalas. Producer Vincent Roget is also back in the fold. The first film followed Sophia as she raced to save Paris from a certain bloodbath courtesy of the giant shark named Lilith in the Seine. In the process, she had to face her past and reckon with the violent death of her husband and colleague at the jaws of said shark. The result is a thrilling Jaws-like tale that goes off the rails, as she joins forces with police diver Adil (Nassim Lyes) to hunt down and kill the monstrosity as Paris’s mayor tries to rush the Triathlon along despite the danger. Presumably, Aja will pick up from the bleak ending Gens left viewers on, which saw the duo’s plans fail and all hell break loose as the city’s center is plunged underwater and Lilith’s offspring flood the rest of the world.
‘Under Paris 2’ Follows a Long String of Beloved Shark Horrors
While Aja may have experience with terrors in the water, it’ll be a tall task to replicate the success of Under Paris and create a shark flick that can stand with the best. The genre is flooded with films of varying quality, but it’s also delivered some truly classic films like Steven Spielberg‘s aforementioned Jaws or the quiet low-budget horror Open Water. Last year even saw a new addition to the sharksploitation oeuvre that earned widespread acclaim — the Jai Courtney-led Dangerous Animals, following a surfer who gets dragged to the ocean by a shark-obsessed serial killer to be ritualistically fed to the sea creatures. Expectations remain high that Aja can create another fun, chaotic, and bloody ride that’ll draw audiences back to the infested waters of Paris, though.

Brantley Gilbert is standing by his decision to perform in Turning Point USA’s rival halftime show.
“For those asking ‘who is Brantley Gilbert?’ and ‘why is he playing this event?’” the country singer, 41, wrote in a lengthy statement shared via X on Friday, February 6. “I’m a songwriter who grew up, and still lives in Jackson County, GA, whose goal in the music business was to sell out the local theater a few miles from my house and somehow make a living writing songs.”
Gilbert added he is a “recovering addict with the history of making bad choices that come with it.”
“I’m not proud of those choices, but I am proud of the choice I made to live in another direction,” he continued. “I share my story through my music, in hopes that it may help and inspire others in their darkest hour.”

Gilbert also explained that his “Christian” faith, “love” for the United States and being a dad are major parts of his identity.
“I love our country, despite its flaws. I’ve dedicated part of my life to the men and women who fight for it, and the families of those who gave their life for it,” he wrote. “Above all, I’m a proud husband and father of three.”
However his decision to say yes to Turning Point USA’s concert was due to the fact a county artist hasn’t performed at the Super Bowl’s halftime show in the past two decades.
“We’re celebrating 250 years as a country, and it’s been more than 20 years since a country artist has been asked to play the Super Bowl halftime show. I respect that some people may see this differently, but I’m not playing this show to be divisive,” he explained. “I was offered this opportunity and imagined my kids watching their daddy perform at halftime during the biggest game in American Football. Everything I do, I do for them.”
Gilbert continued, “The way I treat people isn’t conditional based on what our differences may be. I believe ‘United we stand, divided we fall,’ and my prayer for our country is that we stand united.”

Halle Berry Shows Off Her Ring On ‘The Tonight Show’
On February 5, Berry was a guest on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” and even before the interview began, the actress said she wanted to clarify some misinterpretations about her relationship with Hunt.
“Well, there’s some confusion that he asked to marry me, and I said no,” Berry explained to Fallon and the audience. She then continued to say, “No, that’s not the case. I did not say no. We just don’t have a date,” she explained.
“Of course, I said yes, I would marry him,” she exclaimed, which was met by cheers and applause from the audience. Berry then said Hunt “put a little ring on it,” gesturing to her finger with an engagement ring that was, by no means, little.

Van Hunt Proposed Last Year
As Berry explained, people assumed that she had refused Hunt’s proposal last year. In June 2025, the two were guests on “Today with Jenna & Friends,” where Hunt revealed that he had already asked the Oscar-winner to marry him.
“So I put out the proposal, and it’s still on hold, as you can see. It’s just out there floating. You know, maybe you can encourage her,” the singer said, which garnered a laugh from Berry. The actress didn’t say that she said no, and instead explained her reason for not rushing into marriage.
“Well, I’ve been married three times. Van has been married once, and so no, we don’t feel like we have to get married to validate our love in any way. We don’t,” she said. That explanation might have been the reason why people assumed she said no to the proposal.

The 59-year-old actress met Hunt during the pandemic in 2020. Hunt’s brother knew the actress, and he wanted to set them up. Berry said that while she was hesitant at first, she eventually agreed.
Berry and Hunt then became acquainted through text messages and phone calls at first before meeting in person for a date months later, as she told The Cut.
“We were forced to let only our brains connect and discover if we had a connection before our bodies decided to get involved. I’d never done it this way. I fell in love with his mind, his conversation,” Berry explained, as reported by People.

Kelsea Ballerini and Chase Stokes have pulled the plug on their relationship for the third time – just weeks after announcing they were back together.

“Although you keep saying you’re not excited for 32, I’d say I’m lookin’ forward to more of this,” he wrote via Instagram on September 12, 2025. “Happy birthday, my love.”
They decided to give it another shot two months later, and multiple sources exclusively confirmed to Us in November 2025 they were back together.
“Kelsea and Chase are giving their relationship another try,” one insider told Us at the time. “There’s still a lot of love there, so they fell back into it very naturally.”
This reconciliation was short-lived, however, and within weeks, they were broken up again.
The twists and turns of the duo’s on-off relationship continued in December 2025. Taking to social media to ring in the new year, Ballerini and Stokes revealed they had reunited again.

Less than a week ago, Ballerini spoke to Entertainment Tonight about getting back together with Stokes, insisting the situation wasn’t as “dramatic” as it appeared.
“I love him so much. We’ve been together for quite a while now and done a lot of life together and he was with me getting ready today and he’ll be with me when we wrap. I love love and I believe it in it,” she told the outlet at the 2026 Grammys on Sunday, February 1, which Stokes did not attend.

Murphy’s role in the “Opalite” has a few fans scratching their heads, as it isn’t as obvious as some of the other cameos.
The Inception star, 49, is actually included twice. First, he is the opening voiceover in the infomercial for magical product Opalite.
“Hey there pal, why so glum? Have you been feeling unsatisfied in life? Maybe, you’re lacking connection in a friendship or a relationship. Maybe you give more than you get back. What if I told you, you could magically turn all that crappiness into happiness?” Murphy can be heard saying in the ad.

Which Other Celebrities Appear in the ‘Opalite’ Video?
The Oppenheimer actor isn’t the only celeb to grace the screen during “Opalite.” Murphy is joined by Graham Norton, Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith and Lewis Capaldi.
Gleeson, 42, portrays a character in a one-sided relationship with a cactus, which turns into Swift when he sprays it with the Opalite potion.
“Someone You Loved” singer Capaldi, 29, plays a mall photographer who is tasked with taking portrait photos of Swift and Gleeson, while talk show host Norton, 62, acts as a salesman selling Opalite’s antidote, the aptly named, “Nope-alite.”
Meanwhile, Lee, 42, appears as a singer on TV while Swift is hanging out with her “rock” best friend and Turner-Smith, 39, plays an aerobic instructor that Swift and the “rock” work out to.
Other notable cameos in “Opalite” include some of Swift’s Eras Tour dancers such as Kameron Saunders as a dance judge and Jan Ravnik in a commercial.

Swift revealed via her Instagram on February 6 that she had conjured up the idea to include them all when she was doing promo for her Life of a Showgirl album on The Graham Norton Show in October 2025. The stars who made cameos in “Opalite” were also guests.
“I remember thinking I got ridiculously lucky with the group I was paired with. Cillian Murphy, Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee, @JodieSmith, and @LewisCapaldi,” she wrote. “All people whose work I’ve admired from afar. When we were all talking during the broadcast, Domhnall made a light hearted joke about wanting to be in one of my music videos. He’s Irish! He was joking! Severance fans are buzzing after finally receiving some solid Season 3 news to cling to last week. Collider recently reported via an interview with John Turturro that production on Severance Season 3 will begin this July. This may still be months away, but at least it’s confirmation that the show is still moving in the right direction, which some fans had begun to doubt. Following this exciting news about the future of Severance, fans have been rushing to Apple TV to watch the twisted sci-fi show, which has helped it close the gap between its biggest competitor, Pluribus.
For years, Severance held the crown as Apple TV’s biggest sci-fi show ever. With the immaculate reception of the first two seasons, it seemed unfathomable that any other show could ever take this title from Ben Stiller’s series, but that’s what happened last year when Apple TV brought Pluribus to the small screen. Although we know Severance Season 3 will begin filming this summer, it’s still entirely too early to predict when the show could be released. Ben Stiller previously promised that the gap between Seasons 2 and 3 wouldn’t be nearly as long as the first two seasons, but it’s getting harder to deliver on this promise by the day.

The most popular show on Apple TV right now is Shrinking, the Ted Lasso replacement hailing from creator Bill Lawrence that just debuted its long-awaited third season. The show has already been renewed for Season 4, and it’s expected to be a major streaming juggernaut for the duration of its third season. To reach the top spot, Shrinking dethroned Hijack, the thriller starring Idris Elba that’s roughly halfway through its sophomore season. The Morning Show is also still hanging around in the Apple TV top 10 a few weeks after going off the air.

Kaley Cuoco has two words to say about the mom group drama that recently rocked Hollywood: “Just leave.”
The actress weighed in on the drama that broke out when Ashley Tisdale revealed via a shocking essay that she cut ties with her former mom group following a string of events that made her feel alienated.
Since Tisdale’s essay was published, some A-listers have come forward to give their opinion on the issue, including Dylan Efron, who voiced support for the actress.

What Did Kaley Cuoco Say About Ashley Tisdale’s Mom Group Drama?
Kaley Cuoco made an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” on Thursday. During a segment, a fan asked Cuoco to give her candid opinion on Tisdale’s falling out with her mom friends, since she is also part of a mom group herself.
The “Big Bang Theory” actress shook her head and said, “I mean, if you don’t like being part of the group, just leave, baby,” she said, to which host Cohen agreed.
Explaining her point of view, Cuoco added, “I don’t think we have to talk about it,” to which Cohen quipped, “Like, write an essay about it.”
Concluding her speech, the 40-year-old stated, “Just leave, find a new group.” A fellow guest chimed in, “Find someone else,” and Cuoco agreed to that as well.

Dylan Efron Called Ashley Tisdale ‘Sweet’ Amid Mom Group Drama
Weeks before Cuoco’s statements, Dylan Efron similarly weighed in on the drama. However, he seemed to lean towards defense for Tisdale.
During a previous interview with Andy Cohen, Efron made it clear that while he tries to be intentional about staying out of drama, he knows that Tisdale has a good personality.
“All I know is, Ashley, since I was a kid, she’s been so sweet to me,” he said, per The Blast.
He further noted that he couldn’t picture his long-time friend being the source of toxicity in the group and hoped for it all to be a “misunderstanding.”
However, Efron was quick to admit that he didn’t know the full details of the situation, so it may be more than a misunderstanding after all, before describing Tisdale as “so sweet.”

‘RHOB’ Crystal Minkoff Could Somehow Relate To The Mom Group Drama
Another star who shared their thoughts on the situation is “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Crystal Minkoff, who could relate to Tisdale’s experience.
According to The Blast, she explained that she lost 14 friends when she went on the reality show and, as such, could relate to Tisdale’s feeling of being left out.
Minkoff acknowledged that she found the whole situation “interesting,” and when she reached out to a member of the group, they said, “It’s so ironic that we’re the toxic ones and she’s on her own.”
The reality star then truthfully admitted that she had mixed emotions about it all because while she could relate to Tisdale, she also couldn’t imagine Hilary Duff being a toxic person.

Over her ten-year relationship with the actress, she got to know her as a “super sweet” person with no trace of meanness.
Notably, Duff, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor were reportedly part of the mom group Tisdale left behind.

Ashley Tisdale Felt ‘Frozen’ Out Of Her Mom Group
While Minkoff’s falling out with her 14 friends was a result of her debut on “RHOB,” Tisdale’s experience seemed to be a result of subtle occurrences that piled up over time.
In her essay, Tisdale revealed that she was systematically being left out of group gatherings, which made her feel “frozen” out of everything. While she tried to brush it off at first, it eventually became clear to her that it was an intentional act from other members of the group. That was when she decided to leave.
The 40-year-old entertainer sent a text to her former friends explaining the reason for her exit and likening it to something that would happen in high school.
According to The Blast, a source confirmed that Tisdale has indeed been feeling disconnected from the group long before she took her exit. The source also revealed that the actress made the move because she didn’t want to support toxic behaviour from her friends.

Tisdale Was Unsure If She Was ‘Cool Enough’ For Her Friends
Tisdale’s essay, which was published by The Cut, shed light on how she felt about leaving her friends behind.
She explained that in the past, she used to confide in the mom group and share her work and family life challenges with them.
However, over time, the tone in the group changed, and she began to question whether she was “cool enough” for them or not, as confirmed by The Blast.
