Why Paul Hennessy’s ‘The Cost Of The Escape’ Resonates
In an era defined by singles, snippets, and endless scrolling, Paul Hennessy did something radically patient: he trusted listeners with abundance.
The Cost Of The Escape arrived all at once, twelve albums-144 songs, and in doing so, it quietly challenged assumptions about how modern audiences engage with music. Rather than asking for constant attention, the project offers permission. “I don’t have a preferred way,” Hennessy says. “That’s intentional.”

Listeners Are Choosing To Stay

The work can be entered anywhere. One song in four minutes, an album in an hour, or the full sweep, experienced slowly over weeks or months. Hennessy likens it to standing at the edge of the ocean. “Some people will dip a toe. Others will let the currents carry them for a while. I leave that choice entirely to the listener.”
What’s striking is that listeners are choosing to stay. The project’s reach has grown not through spectacle, but through sustained engagement. Songs are being saved, revisited, and lived with. “That kind of engagement says something different than applause,” Hennessy observes. “It says, this mattered enough to keep.”
Article continues below advertisement
That response reflects the deeper purpose behind the scale. Hennessy wasn’t trying to outpace attention spans. He was acknowledging how storytelling has evolved. Entire seasons of television are binged, and the world moves fluidly between short-form and long-form narratives. “I don’t see that as a flaw,” he says. “I see it as a reality.”

‘Zoom In Or Zoom Out’

The Cost Of The Escape was designed to exist within that reality. It functions both as individual moments and as an extended arc, with themes unfolding gradually. Freedom, for Hennessy, isn’t choosing between formats. “It’s about trusting the work to hold up at any distance,” he explains. “Zoom in or zoom out, it still needs to mean something.”
That trust is rooted in discipline. The hardest part of creating the project wasn’t emotional vulnerability, but consistency. “The real challenge wasn’t staying honest,” he says. “It was never sacrificing the work itself.” Every song had to earn its time. Hooks mattered, and ideas had to land. If a thought wasn’t true, it was discarded and rewritten.
Article continues below advertisement
That rigor shows in the details. In Bulletproof, a single line captures emotional contradiction: “If my love is bulletproof, then why am I afraid?” In A Large and Better Life, affection is offered without possession: “I’ll kiss you, and wish you a large and better life.” Other songs, like Life, strip experience down to repetition and weight, naming the grind without softening it. Different listeners gravitate toward different tracks, which Hennessy sees as essential. “That’s not a flaw in the project,” he says. “That’s the point.”

Guinness World Records Expanded The Conversation

When Guinness World Records confirmed the release as the largest multi-album launch of its kind, the recognition expanded the conversation rather than concluding it. “What mattered more was that it created a platform big enough for the songs to actually be heard,” Hennessy reflects. Now, with the record behind him, the path forward feels open rather than heavy. “It feels like freedom,” he says, “but not the kind that sends you off alone.” Collaboration, curiosity, and continued craft are what excite him most.
In the end, The Cost Of The Escape offers company. Song by song, it traces what happens when we stop running long enough to listen and discover that meaning often waits right where we are willing to stay.

Ex-Prince Andrew And Sarah Ferguson Leaning On Each Other
The former Duke and Duchess of York have faced scrutiny over their connection with Jeffrey Epstein, which has escalated following the release of Epstein-related files.
More recently, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, adding to his woes. As pressure mounts, the royal family has totally shunned them, but is there any redemption for the estranged couple?

Ex-Prince Andrew And Sarah Ferguson’s Future Looks Bleak, As The Royal Family Turns Its Back On Them

In light of Andrew and Ferguson’s downward spiral, sources say there is no hope that they could bounce back, as their reputation has taken a serious hit. “There’s no real return to royal life,” one source told US Weekly, adding that the estranged couple is “very much in survival mode.”
With their inner circle cutting ties, the exes are now leaning on each other. “They are miserable,” the insider added, “and misery loves company.”
Following Andrew’s arrest, King Charles made it clear in his statement that the “law must take its course,” and now the source says he feels “validated” for distancing himself.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly “disgusted and appalled” with the situation, reinforcing their zero-tolerance approach to reputational risk.

Other members of the brood have also kept away. According to another insider, “No one has spoken to him since the latest batch of Epstein files was released.”
Andrew’s controversy has not only been a pain to his family but also to the royal institution at large. Royal expert Christopher Andersen explained that the British monarchy survives on public trust, but Andrew’s scandals have pushed it to the breaking point, sparking questions that need answers.
Crisis communications expert David E. Johnson chimed in that the fallout could even affect Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy, arguing that the public may wonder whether she should have taken action sooner.

Andersen shared another perspective, suggesting that Andrew could be regretting his mother’s death, noting that the late queen did her best to “shield her favorite son.” He pointed out that Andrew has since shown entitlement, believing he could avoid consequences because the queen would step in.
However, now, neither Andrew nor Ferguson can escape reputational damage, even if no formal legal charges are brought against them.

How Princess Eugenie And Princess Beatrice Have Been Affected By Their Parents’ Scandal

Andrew and Ferguson’s fallout has also taken a toll on their daughters, as they were said to be “horrified, devastated, and in a state of total shock” at Andrew’s detention.
An insider claimed Beatrice feels mortified and has faced intense public scrutiny in the U.K. Now, more than ever, the sisters are said to be supporting one another while maintaining distance from their parents.
“They don’t want to be associated with the scandal. They don’t spend a lot of time with Fergie and Andrew,” one source said.

Sarah Ferguson Seeks Treatment Abroad Amid Mounting Pressure

As their daughters reportedly distanced themselves following Andrew’s detention on February 19, Ferguson remained noticeably silent, fueling speculation about her whereabouts.
The Blast reported that those close to her noted she is in a bad condition and was struggling with her mental health, fearing that the scrutiny would soon shift to her.
Days afterward, her location came to light. According to The Blast, Ferguson had quietly left the U.K. and admitted herself to the Paracelsus Recovery Clinic in Zurich, Switzerland, and has been there for a month.
The wellness facility is considered among the most expensive in the world, with rates reaching $17,500 per night.
How Ex-Prince Andrew’s Arrest Points At Something Serious

As Ferguson takes on recovery, more dots are being connected about Andrew’s detention.
Per The Blast, former Met Police Chief Superintendent Dal Babu explained that police don’t usually need to arrest someone under investigation when they could simply request a statement.
In Babu’s view, Andrew being taken into custody suggests “significant evidence.” Babu further noted that taking a suspect into custody enables authorities to conduct property searches tied to the investigation, emphasizing that such a move is never made lightly.

Andrew And Sarah Ferguson’s Daughters Reportedly Feel ‘Betrayed’

As the fallout from Andrew and Ferguson’s troubles continues, their daughters are said to be confronting difficult truths.
As The Blast reported, a source alleged the sisters are “putting pieces of the puzzle together in real time and realizing they may have been used.”
The insider added that the realization has left them heartbroken and in despair, but they are said to still love their parents.

According to Deadline, Hulu is officially moving forward with Coogler’s reboot of “The X-Files” by ordering a pilot. Oscar nominee Danielle Deadwyler is set for one of the lead roles, with Jennifer Yale as the showrunner.
From Hulu’s Onyx Collective and 20th Century Television, Coogler will write and direct the pilot. The Director Made History At This Year’s BAFTAs

On Sunday, February 22, Ryan Coogler made history by becoming the first Black person to win a BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay for his box-office and critical smash “Sinners.”
As he received his award at the 79th annual ceremony, Coogler admitted that he was shocked to win, while also paying tribute to his fellow nominees.
“I’m nominated with some incredible writers,” he said. “I’ll share this with y’all… Y’all already won by being here.”

“Sinners” earned a record-breaking 16 nominations across multiple categories at this year’s ceremony, including Best Actor, Best Picture, and Best Director. Coming in right behind “Sinners” was the Paul Thomas Anderson drama “One Battle After Another” with 14 nominations.
With the “Sinners” recognition, Michael B. Jordan has earned his first Oscar nomination. Two of his co-stars in the film were also recognized for their work, as Delroy Lindo (Best Supporting Actor) and Wunmi Mosaku (Best Supporting Actress) were nominated as well.

Coogler Spoke About His Record-Breaking Oscar Noms

“I did not have any expectations when it came to the recognition of what they [the team] did,” he said. “For me, people just showing up to the movies and having a good time, that would’ve been enough. That is worth all the effort. But that people would consider the craft and the achievements that went into it individually. It’s so rewarding.”
The director, who has worked with Michael B. Jordan multiple times since their first collaboration making “Fruitvale Station,” also shared his happiness for the actor’s nomination.

“Obviously, the three of us have been working with Michael since 2012. So that’s a 14-year relationship. So to see him achieve this recognition by his peers, it’s just the best feeling to have. We just feel really, really, really happy that they said yes to the project, first of all, and happy for them,” Coogler said.
‘Sinners’ Was One Of The Biggest Box-Office Hits Of 2025

To date, “Sinners” has grossed $400 million globally and, as a result, broke a string of box office records along the way.
According to Screen Rant, the film became the highest-grossing R-rated film to debut during Easter weekend, earned the biggest opening weekend for an original R-rated horror movie since 2021, ranked in the ninth spot as the best opening weekend of all time for an R-rated horror movie, and the best opening weekend for an original movie in the 2020s.

Ethan Hawke showed his wild side during a recent question-and-answer session that has gone viral on social media.
The actor revealed that he enjoys eating in bed but joked that he doesn’t eat “food” there when asked about the pros or cons of the habit. Just a few days ago, he walked his daughter, Maya, down the aisle as she married Christian Lee Hutson.
Ethan Hawke shares the 26-year-old with Uma Thurman, to whom he was married from 1998 to 2005. The former couple also shares a son, Levon.

Ethan Hawke Says He Eats Something Other Than Food In Bed
In a rare and risqué moment of honesty, Ethan Hawke gave a brief glimpse into his sex life during interviews with British Vogue and British GQ.
When asked a seemingly innocent question about whether it’s “bad to eat in bed,” the actor didn’t stick to the topic of snacks, choosing instead to reveal a side of himself usually reserved for the bedroom.
“Incredibly vulgar things are going through my brain right now,” the actor told the outlets after reading out the question.
“I like to eat in bed, but I don’t eat food,” he added, alongside a mischievous laugh that underscored his sexual innuendo.
Perhaps not wanting to push things further, Hawke chose not to elaborate on what he meant, leaving it to viewers to read between the lines.

The ‘Training Day’ Star Recently Walked His Daughter, Maya, Down The Aisle

The chat with the publications comes just days after the actor took on the ultimate fatherhood role of walking his 27-year-old daughter, Maya, down the aisle for her marriage to Christian Lee Hutson.
The Hollywood veteran shares the “Stranger Things” actress with his ex-wife, “Kill Bill” star Uma Thurman. The duo also welcomed a son, Levon, now 23, during their seven-year marriage.
For the star-studded ceremony at St. George’s Episcopal Church in New York on Valentine’s Day, Hawke arrived in a black suit, looking every bit the proud father, per Page Six.
He was also seen holding a bouquet of flowers, presumably on behalf of his daughter.
Meanwhile, Maya’s mother, Thurman, was also in attendance, looking elegant in a light blue floral ensemble paired with matching heels.

Ethan Hawke Reflected On His Split From Ex-Wife Uma Thurman

In November last year, Hawke reflected on his split from Thurman, which reports at the time suggested was due to infidelity.
He said that being celebrities made the breakup more complicated, but what made it truly difficult were the “family elements” involved.
“The public eye is like gasoline, but what makes divorce hard is the stuff that makes it hard for everyone — the family elements, how to help the kids through it,” Hawke said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times at the time.
“I’m so envious of people who have amicable splits,” the actor further remarked.

The Actor Felt The Media Attention On His Divorce Was ‘Humiliating’

Hawke’s comment about how being a celebrity makes breaking up with someone complicated was echoed in his September interview with GQ.
At the time, the Hollywood star opened up about the media coverage surrounding his divorce from Thurman, noting that it greatly affected him, even when it was being talked about in a positive light.
“It’s almost humiliating even when they’re saying positive things,” he told the publication.
Ethan Hawke Revealed Why He Has Mostly Kept Silent About His Divorce From Uma Thurman

As for why Hawke has never fully detailed the circumstances of his split in interviews, it’s because of a promise he made to his children.
“I vowed to my kids so many times not to talk about the divorce in public,” he told the Los Angeles Times.
He went on to say that “staying married” is a challenge everywhere in the world, and that he feels lucky to have found a second love in his current wife, Ryan Shawhughes, with whom he shares two teenage daughters, Clementine and Indiana.
“But one thing I will say is if you get the privilege of traveling the world, you realize that everywhere men and women have a tremendous amount of difficulty staying married,” Hawke shared.

Man Fatally Shoots Wife, ‘Would Rather Live in Prison’ Than ‘Deal With’ Her
A man in Florida has been arrested after he allegedly fatally shot his wife because he “would rather live in prison” than “deal with” her amid her battle with dementia.
Former police officer William Elwood Simmons was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 83-year-old wife, Nancy Simmons, on Saturday, February 21.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in Orlando, Florida, around 5:15 p.m. after a caller said his wife “was down and I’m just sitting here,” according to a probable cause arrest affidavit reviewed by Us Weekly.
Once deputies arrived at the home, they saw William, 80, waving them down in the garage. “I do know what happened, I did it,” he told them after they asked what occurred.
William was then asked if there were any weapons in the house, and he reportedly said, “Well, one on the floor. I put it there.”
Officers then entered the home, where they found the victim in the kitchen, dead from a gunshot wound. A shotgun was also on the floor with a spent shell casing, according to the affidavit.
William was taken into the police station for questioning, where he told cops that he “was guilty and he shot his wife.”
“He confirmed they were in the kitchen arguing over going on a cruise. Nancy told him multiple times ‘F**k you, you bastard’ which triggered Simmons,” the affidavit stated.
William said he then went to his bedroom and grabbed a shotgun from the closet. His wife said, “F**k you, you bastard” again before he shot her one time.
He told the officers that he dealt with her dementia for “far too long” and that he loved “the old Nancy.” He added “that he would rather live in prison than to deal with her.”
He is currently in custody at Orange County Jail after he was denied bail. It is not immediately clear if William has entered a plea or retained legal representation.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment.
Not much is known about William and Nancy’s relationship, including how long they were together or if they had kids. Additionally, it is not known when she was diagnosed with dementia.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Dementia is “a general term for loss of memory, language, problem-solving and other thinking abilities that are severe enough to interfere with daily life. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia.”
If William is found guilty of first-degree murder, he could face either the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole. However, the evidence and circumstances of the crime will ultimately determine his sentence.
The state of Florida has aggressively accelerated its use of the death penalty in recent years, and a record high of 19 people were executed in 2025. A death sentence is executed by lethal injection, according to the Florida Statues. However, the person who was sentenced to death also has the choice to be executed by electrocution.

How Team USA’s Isabeau Levito Spent ‘Last 2 Hours’ in Olympic Village
Despite her pleas, Isabeau Levito did have to leave the Olympic Village eventually — but she managed to have some fun on the way out.
The Team USA figure skater shared a video of how she spent the last two hours before heading to the airport to fly home from Italy, and it was magnificent.
“How I choose to spend my last two hours in the Olympic Village before leaving for the airport,” Levito, 18, wrote over a video shared via TikTok on Sunday, February 22.
The video showed Levito driving a golf cart through a parking lot, weaving between cones and appearing to race another cart. She revealed in the caption that she had to stop when the poliza, or police, showed up.
The hilarious video comes after Levito went viral for saying “you can’t evict me” from the Olympic Village in an interview with NBC on February 16.
“I’ve spent every night in the [Olympic] Village. It’s been everything and more,” she said at the time. “I don’t think there’s anything not to enjoy. I haven’t even gotten to compete yet and I feel like my experience is already complete. Not complete, but I’m having a blast. The best time.”
Though she didn’t medal at the Olympics, Levito has talked extensively about how much the experience has meant to her.
“This has been like a fantasy. I really love being here,” she said after competing, according to Golden Skate. “Living in the village feels like being on a university campus, which is new to me. I’m a teen, so I’ve never been to university. Walking into the dining hall and seeing friends there, walking past the rings every day, and then getting to do what I’m passionate about, my skating.”
She continued, “Getting to be here with friends and meeting new people from different sports has been a wonderful experience. It feels like once in a lifetime because I’ve never experienced something like this before. And I don’t have a bad thing to say about it.”
Levito added that she felt like competing at the Olympics gave her “more energy” than usual.
“I don’t know if it’s because subconsciously I know I’m at the Olympics, or if it’s because the crowd is very energetic and supportive here,” she said. “But I felt it.”
Levito competed as one-third of the so-called Blade Angels, alongside fellow Team USA figure skaters Amber Glenn and Alysa Liu. Their Olympic run began in memorable fashion when Taylor Swift introduced them in a video that NBC shared via social media.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to introduce you to Amber, Alysa and Isabeau. Three amazing showgirls on ice who will capture your heart with their stories,” Swift, 36, said in the clip, a reference to her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
“Her mom grew up in Milan,” Swift said of Levito. “And her Nonna, her grandma, lives exactly 13 minutes from the Olympic rink. When you can skate like you’re meant to be out there, history has a funny way of showing up.”

Kate Middleton Allegedly Found To Be Meghan Markle ‘Abrasive’
In “William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story,” author Russell Myers alleges personality clashes, staff disputes, and growing mistrust deepened the divide between the couple.
This ultimately reshaped the once-close bond between Prince William and his younger brother Harry, and widened the rift between the Waleses and the Sussexes.

Kate Middleton Found Meghan ‘Abrasive’ And Expected Their Royal Exit

A new book claims that the relationship between the Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Sussex was strained long before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties.
In “William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story,” Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers writes that Kate struggled with Meghan’s manner and believed early on that a split from royal life was likely.
According to the author, the princess “who had so long been a voice of reason in the brothers’ previous squabbles, decided she could do no more to bring them together.”
However, Myers suggests that tensions escalated after concerns arose over how Harry and Meghan interacted with palace staff, people William and Kate were said to value deeply.

Myers also alleged that following the Sussexes’ 2018 wedding, the dynamic between the couples shifted noticeably.
William and Kate reportedly felt that Harry and Meghan had their own “agenda,” and the atmosphere between the two households became increasingly strained.
A source quoted in the book describes the mood as “toxic,” claiming Meghan’s “bullish” approach did not sit well with Kate, who allegedly “found her abrasive.”
The biography further suggests that Kate anticipated a separation from royal life, though perhaps not the scale of what ultimately unfolded in 2020.

Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Early Romance And Her First Meeting With William and Kate

Harry and Meghan began dating in 2016 and became engaged the following year before marrying in May 2018.
During their televised engagement interview, Harry shared that he had kept the relationship private at first, even from his family. He said William and Kate were eager to meet Meghan once they learned about her. Meghan, for her part, described Kate as “wonderful” during that early introduction.
Years later, the duchess reflected publicly on meeting William and Kate for the first time. She recalled hosting them for dinner while dressed casually in ripped jeans and barefoot.
Meghan explained that her naturally affectionate personality, which includes greeting people with hugs, may have felt unexpected within the more formal royal setting.
Article continues below advertisement
The duchess said she was surprised to discover that the “formality on the outside carried through on the inside.”
“There is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door and go ‘You can relax now’, but that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me,” Meghan noted.
Prince William’s Reaction To Harry And Meghan Markle’s 2019 Interview Revealed

In another section of the book, Myers examined how William reacted to Harry and Meghan’s 2019 television interview with Tom Bradby.
During the broadcast, Meghan acknowledged she had been finding life difficult, while Harry remarked that he and his brother were on “different paths.”
Myers also suggested the interview marked a turning point for William. According to the author, it underscored just how much the relationship between the brothers had shifted and reinforced a growing sense that the distance between the couples was becoming permanent.
A source cited in the book claims William felt he had, at some undefined moment, “lost” his brother.
Article continues below advertisement
The same source alleges that William believed Harry “became paranoid, angry, obsessive, and firmly rooted in the past. There’s no doubt, at that time at least, there was a lot of love and support available for Harry.”
The Prince Of Wales Initially Had A Positive Impression Of Meghan Markle

The book also revisits reports that William had advised Harry to move cautiously in his relationship with Meghan.
While that guidance was later interpreted by some as skepticism, Myers includes claims that William initially had a positive impression of Meghan.
An insider quoted in the biography says William found her engaging and was “genuinely happy for Harry and only wanted the best for him.”

Inside Prince William And Kate’s ‘Clear-the-Air’ Meeting With Harry And Meghan That Deepened The Royal Rift

In another excerpt, via Hello! Magazine, Myers describes an attempt by the Prince and Princess of Wales to ease the growing strain within the family by inviting Harry and Meghan to their home for frank discussions.
Myers writes that although the nation celebrated the couple’s wedding on 19 May 2018 with widespread enthusiasm, the atmosphere behind palace walls was far less harmonious.
By July that year, Prince William and Kate reportedly arranged what was intended to be a “clear-the-air” meeting. However, the author said the “resulting exchange did not bode well for the future.”
According to the book, tensions centered on staff issues, including the departure of two of Meghan’s personal assistants and claims of a stressful working environment.
Myers alleges that Harry and Meghan did not accept responsibility for the situation, while William is said to have directly challenged Meghan over her conduct, describing it as her “being difficult and rude and, according to Harry, pointed directly at his wife.”
The meeting seemingly worsened the situation between the royal parties as they only grew apart ever since, with no signs of reconciliation in the works.

Death Of Cartel Leader Sparks Violence Across Mexico
The Mexican army killed the country’s most powerful cartel leader and one of the United States’ most wanted fugitives. El Mencho, as he’s known, is dead. While it’s a victory for law enforcement, cartel members have responded with a wave of violence across Mexico. Here’s what’s going down in the aftermath of Mencho’s death, per the Associated Press.

El Mencho Dies During Attempted Arrest, Cartels Unleash Violence
Oseguera Cervantes, aka El Mencho, was killed during an attempt to capture him. Meanwhile, his followers attempted to fight off Mexican troops. Mexico’s Defense Secretary, Ricardo Trevilla, said Monday that the army and National Guard launched an operation in the southern part of Jalisco state to capture El Mencho. Mexican air force and special forces were also involved. Intelligence gathered about one of Mencho’s romantic partners led them to his hideout, he said.
The cartel counterattacked. In the confrontation, federal forces killed eight members of the criminal group. El Mencho and two of his bodyguards were wounded and died later during transfer by air to Mexico City, Trevilla said. Officials seized rocket launchers capable of shooting down aircraft and destroying armored vehicles at the scene.
The killing of Jalisco New Generation Cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes during an attempt to capture him in Jalisco state was a high-profile blow against cartels. The highest since the recapture of former Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán a decade ago.
After El Mencho died, security forces were placed on alert throughout the country as gunmen unleashed violence. Cartels torched cars, blocking roads in 20 Mexican states. People locked themselves in their homes in Guadalajara, Mexico’s second-largest city and Jalisco’s capital. Also, school was canceled on Monday in several states.
Who Was El Mencho?
Oseguera Cervantes, better known as ‘El Mencho,’ was 59 years old and originally from the western state of Michoacan. His ties to organized crime went back at least 30 years. In 1994, he was tried for trafficking heroin in the U.S. He spent three years in prison. After returning to Mexico, he quickly rose through Mexico’s drug trafficking underworld.
Around 2009, El Mencho founded the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. It became Mexico’s fastest-growing criminal organization and moved cocaine, methamphetamines, fentanyl and migrants to the United States. The cartel recruited aggressively, experimenting with new ways to reach potential members online. It also made money through fuel theft, extortion and timeshare fraud.
Ultimately, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel earned a reputation for attacks on Mexican security forces, including downing a military helicopter in Jalisco in 2015. Mencho’s cartel also attempted a spectacular, but unsuccessful, assassination of Mexico City Police Chief Omar García Harfuch. Harfuch is now Mexico’s federal security secretary.
It’s not clear who will succeed El Mencho, or if any one person can. The Jalisco cartel has a presence in at least 21 of Mexico’s 32 states and is active in almost all of the United States, according to the U.S. DEA. But it is also a global organization.
Will The U.S. Respond?
The killing could give Mexico a leg up in its dealings with the Trump administration. The president has been threatening tariffs or military action if Mexico does not show results in the fight against the cartels.
El Mencho was facing multiple indictments in the United States and the U.S. State Department had offered a $15 million reward for information leading to his arrest. The Trump administration designated his cartel a terrorist organization a year ago.
