Prime Video Is Giving One of Sci-Fi’s Biggest Box Office Bombs a Second Chance

Published

on

odvv1sqvs0kxbxia8bhiblpgalx.jpg

With a reported production budget of $150 million, one of the biggest sci-fi box office bombs in recent memory grossed just over $67 million worldwide during its theatrical run. Released alongside Paramount’s slapstick comedy Jackass Forever, the film brought in $9.9 million in its opening weekend. While it managed a second-place finish, it unfortunately suffered a brutal 70% decline in its second weekend, pulling in just $2.9 million. However, years after its disastrous theatrical debut, the star-studded disaster epic is getting a second chance to find its audience on Prime Video.

Directed by the “master of disaster” himself, Roland Emmerich, the filmmaker behind genre staples like Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, and 2012, the 2022 release follows an unlikely team racing against time after a mysterious force knocks the moon out of orbit, sending it on a collision course with Earth. Unsurprisingly, the sci-fi flop leans heavily into Emmerich’s signature blend of world-ending catastrophe and increasingly outrageous narrative twists, which ultimately alienated a large portion of critics and viewers alike.

Your Fate Has Been Calculated
You’d Survive In…

Your answers point to the world your instincts were built for. This is the universe your temperament, your survival instincts, and your particular brand of stubbornness were made for.

The Resistance, Zion

The Matrix

You took the red pill a long time ago — probably before anyone offered it to you. You’re a systems thinker who can’t help but notice the seams in things.

  • You’re drawn to understanding how the system works before figuring out how to break it.
  • You’d find the Resistance, or it would find you — your instinct for spotting constructed realities is the machines’ worst nightmare.
  • You function best when you have access to information and the freedom to act on it.
  • The Matrix built an airtight prison. You’d be the one probing the walls for the door.

The Wasteland

Mad Max

The wasteland doesn’t reward the clever or the well-connected — it rewards those who are hard to kill and harder to break. That’s you.

  • You don’t need comfort, community, or a cause larger than the next horizon.
  • You need a vehicle, a clear threat, and enough fuel to outrun it — and you’re good at all three.
  • You are unsentimental enough to survive that world, and decent enough — just barely — to be something more than another raider.
  • In the wasteland, that distinction is everything.

Los Angeles, 2049

Blade Runner

You’d survive here because you know how to exist in moral grey areas without losing yourself completely.

  • You read people accurately, keep your circle small, and ask the questions others prefer not to answer.
  • In a city where humanity is a legal designation rather than a feeling, you hold onto something that keeps you functional.
  • You’re not a hero. But you’re not lost, either.
  • In Blade Runner’s world, that distinction is everything.

Arrakis

Dune

Arrakis is the most hostile environment in the known universe — and you are precisely the kind of person it rewards.

  • Patience, discipline, and political awareness are your core strengths — and on Arrakis, they’re survival tools.
  • You understand that the long game matters more than any single victory.
  • Others come to Dune and are consumed by it. You’d learn its logic and earn its respect.
  • In time, you wouldn’t just survive Arrakis — you’d begin to reshape it.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

The galaxy far, far away is vast, loud, and in a constant state of violent political upheaval — and you wouldn’t have it any other way.

  • You find meaning in being part of something larger than yourself — a cause, a crew, a rebellion.
  • You’d gravitate toward the Rebellion, or the fringes, or whatever pocket of the galaxy still believes the Empire’s grip can be broken.
  • You fight — not because you have to, but because standing aside isn’t something you’re capable of.
  • In Star Wars, that willingness is what makes all the difference.

Prime Video Gives ‘Moonfall’ a Second Chance

Titled Moonfall, the movie arrived in North American and UK theaters on February 4, 2022, courtesy of Lionsgate and Entertainment Film Distributors, respectively. It debuted to mixed-to-negative reviews, with critics slamming its complicated plot despite praising its visual effects. Now, Prime Video subscribers are deciding for themselves whether the movie deserves a better reception than its box-office receipts and critical ratings suggest. At the time of writing, Moonfall has broken into the top ten most-watched titles on Prime Video overall, and at the same time comfortably sits in the top 5 movie charts on the streamer in the U.S.

Featuring an ensemble cast led by Halle Berry, Moonfall is proving to be one of those big-budget spectacles that doesn’t need a successful theatrical run or a coveted “Certified Fresh” Rotten Tomatoes score to be appreciated. Currently holding an underwhelming 35% Tomatometer score, its arrival on Prime Video has clearly sparked renewed interest. Although this streaming comeback might not sway everyone’s opinion about the film’s odd choices, the data shows there’s still a large audience for high-budget, low-stakes disaster movies. Alongside Berry, Moonfall also stars Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Michael Peña, Charlie Plummer, Donald Sutherland, and Eme Ikwuakor.

Moonfall is streaming now on Prime Video.

‘Big Bang Theory’ Star Refuses to Return

Published

on

The Big Bang Theory Poster

Jim Parsons has opened up about reprising his role as Sheldon Cooper. The award-winning actor played the role for 16 years on the hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory and returned as both a narrator and a cameo in the prequel series Young Sheldon. With The Big Bang Theory universe expanding, with the success of the spin-off show, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, and the upcoming series, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, Parsons has revealed whether he would return as the iconic sitcom character.

The Big Bang Theory is a sitcom that follows two scientist roommates, Sheldon (Parsons) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki), whose world changes after they meet their new next-door neighbor, Penny (Kaley Cuoco). The first few seasons revolved around the guys’ friendship circle, which started with just Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar), but in later seasons, more cast members have been added to the group — namely Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) and Amy (Mayim Bialik), who were love interests for Howard and Sheldon.

Parsons has played Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory since the pilot episode, and the character has become a familiar face on the show, appearing in all 12 seasons. His character has been so popular that a spin-off show called Young Sheldon was greenlit, which tells the story of a young Sheldon Cooper (Iain Armitage) during his time in Texas, and showcases his family dynamic until the death of his father, George Cooper Sr (Lance Barber), and his move to California to study at Caltech. As the franchise expands with more titles, fans wondered if the Emmy Award-winning actor would make a return to the franchise that led to his career success.

In a recent interview on All Out with Jon Dean, Parsons reflected on his time in the role of Sheldon and was asked if he would return. Parsons said that working on The Big Bang Theory was “some of the best moments” of his life, but he was also miserable. Additionally, he said he wouldn’t return as Sheldon “for any amount of money” because of the stress and emotional toll. He explained:

“I look back now and realize that there were many ways, at some of the best moments of my life, I was miserable. I was not happy. I was stressed. I was, I felt that there was so many plates I was supposed to be keeping in the air and that the success and the good things of life that were happening were only due to this overworking, discipline, and whatever. And maybe to a degree that was true. I don’t know. I can’t say because that’s how I was. But I wouldn’t do that again for any amount of money. I just, because it was like, it was stressful and miserable at times. I made myself miserable.”

Your Hero Has Been Identified
Your Sci-Fi Hero Is…

Your answers point to the iconic sci-fi hero who shares your instincts, your values, and your particular way of facing the impossible.

Arrakis · Dune

Paul Atreides
Advertisement

You carry a weight most people would crumble under — the knowledge of what you’re capable of, and the burden of what you might have to become.

  • You see further ahead than others and you plan accordingly, even when the vision frightens you.
  • You are driven by loyalty to your people and a sense of destiny you didn’t ask for but can’t escape.
  • Paul Atreides is not simply a hero — he is someone who understands the cost of power and chooses to bear it anyway.
  • That gravity, that willingness to carry what others won’t, is exactly you.

USS Enterprise · Star Trek

Captain Kirk
Advertisement

You lead with instinct, warmth, and an absolute refusal to accept a no-win scenario — because you’ve always believed there’s a third option nobody else has thought of yet.

  • You take the mission seriously without ever taking yourself too seriously.
  • Your crew would follow you anywhere, not because you demand it, but because you’ve earned it.
  • Kirk’s genius isn’t tactical — it’s human. He reads people, bends rules with purpose, and wills outcomes into existence through sheer conviction.
  • That combination of warmth, audacity, and relentless optimism is unmistakably yours.

The Rebellion · Star Wars

Princess Leia
Advertisement

You are the kind of person who holds the line when everyone else is losing faith — not because you’re fearless, but because giving up simply isn’t something you’re capable of.

  • You lead through conviction. Your voice carries because your belief is unshakeable.
  • You gave up everything ordinary the moment you chose the cause, and you’ve never looked back.
  • Leia is not a supporting character in her own story — she is the moral centre of the entire rebellion.
  • That same fierce, principled, unbreakable core is what defines you.

The Nostromo · Alien

Ellen Ripley
Advertisement

You are not reckless, not grandiose, and not particularly interested in being anyone’s hero — you just refuse to stop when it matters.

  • You see threats clearly, you document the truth even when no one listens, and when the time comes you handle it yourself.
  • Ripley’s heroism is earned, not performed. She doesn’t have a speech — she has a flamethrower and a plan.
  • You share her composure under the worst possible pressure, and her refusal to pretend the monster isn’t there.
  • When it counts, you don’t flinch. That’s everything.

The Wasteland · Mad Max

Max Rockatansky
Advertisement

You have been through fire that would break most people — and what came out the other side is something the world underestimates at its peril.

  • You don’t ask for help, don’t need validation, and don’t wait for anyone to tell you the rules no longer apply.
  • Your loyalty, when it finally arrives, is absolute — but it’s earned in silence and tested in action, not in words.
  • Max is not a nihilist. He is someone who lost everything and found, against his will, that he still has something worth protecting.
  • That bruised, stubborn, ultimately human core is exactly yours.

Jim Parsons’ Career Has Grown Beyond ‘The Big Bang Theory’

Despite his complicated feelings about his time on The Big Bang Theory, Parsons went on to talk about being recognized for one role. He acknowledged that that recognition isn’t going away anytime soon, and his relationship with the character has become healthier in the years since the show ended. “It’s not going away. But I’m changing my relationship to it,” said Parsons. “It’s evolving, and it gets better all the time. What I feel is better, what I feel is healthier.” He continued:

“It is a weird feeling to know people know you when you walk into a room, but you don’t know them. And it’s an even weirder feeling when, if I think about it, to go, ‘Oh, and most of them only know me as a character that I no longer even play anymore and haven’t for seven years now.’ So sometimes I’m being, what’s coming reflected back at me from a person, if it’s odd to me at all, it makes sense. Because I don’t think of myself in that way because I’m not doing it every day anymore, and that could be the majority of what they’re putting on me. I don’t know.”

Parsons started his career in 1993, and while he’s best known for his role in The Big Bang Theory, he has appeared in numerous other projects. He played a supporting role in the 2016 film Hidden Figures, in which he portrayed Paul Stanford. He also appeared in the 2020 TV miniseries Hollywood, where he played Henry Wilson. He also played the lead role in the 2015 animated film Home, where he voiced the alien named Oh. Recently, Parsons’ latest work has been in theater, where he plays Ruth DeWitt Bukater in the jukebox musical Titanique, a parody of James Cameron‘s 1997 film Titanic.

The Big Bang Theory is available to stream on HBO Max. Stuart Fails to Save the Universe premieres on HBO on July 23.

‘The Rookie’ Season 9 Officially Brings a Major Cast Shake-Up

Published

on

Eric Winter as Tim Bradford, Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, and Tru Valentino as Aaron Thorsen sitting together in The Rookie

ABC’s The Rookie has always prided itself on depicting fresh talent joining the Los Angeles Police Department. The police procedural started out with the lead protagonist, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), becoming the oldest rookie to join the force. Along with Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Jackson West (Titus Makin Jr.), we have been able to watch these rookies traverse their way through a dangerous, high-pressure career. Throughout the past eight seasons, we’ve also met some truly great officers, including Aaron Thorsen (Tru Valentino) and Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez), and some not-so-great ones, like Larry “Badger” Macer (Greg Grunberg), who washed out on his first day for accidentally firing a gun during roll call, and Seth Ridley (Patrick Keleher), who turned out to be a pathological liar. Now, with one more rookie graduating from the lowest ranks, The Rookie will be getting more recruits in Season 9.

In the Season 8 finale, it was questionable whether rookie Miles Penn (Deric Augustine) would actually continue on with the Mid-Wilshire precinct or not. After fumbling a shift where a shootout occurs in the station, Miles seems prepared to accept the consequences. However, Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) discovers that Miles isn’t at fault. Not only does she not boot him from the rookie program, but she actually states that she’ll put in a recommendation so that he’s accelerated out of the program, and can graduate early. Creator Alexi Hawley noted in an interview back in May that Season 9 will, in fact, feature Miles as an official police officer, who is 100% done with his training. This sets up an exciting opening for new storylines for Miles’s character — who will he partner up with? How will he handle being out on the streets on his own? Will his fellow officers stop treating him like the newbie? But aside from getting to see Miles grow and mature, this also means that The Rookie now has an opening for a new rookie to join the team.

🎭Ethan Hunt

01

You’re dropped into a dangerous situation with no warning. What do you need most from a partner?
The first few seconds tell you everything about who belongs beside you.

02

You have to get somewhere dangerous, fast. How do you travel?
How you get there is half the mission.

03

You’re pinned down and outnumbered. What does your ideal partner do?
This is when you find out what someone is really made of.

04

The mission is paused. You have one evening to decompress. What does your partner suggest?
Who someone is when the pressure drops is who they actually are.

05

How do you prefer your partner to communicate mid-mission?
Good communication is the difference between partners and a liability.

06

Your enemy is powerful, well-resourced, and has the upper hand. How should your partner approach them?
The approach to the enemy defines the partnership.

07

Things go badly wrong and you’re captured. What do you trust your partner to do?
Who someone is when you need them most is the only thing that matters.

A great partner fills the gap you didn’t know you had.

09

Every partnership has a cost. Which of these can you live with?
No one comes without baggage. The question is whether you can carry it together.

10

It’s the final moment. Everything is on the line. What do you need from your partner right now?
The last question is the most honest one.

Your Partner Has Been Assigned
Your Perfect Partner Is…

Your answers have pointed to one action hero above all others. This is the person built to have your back — for better or considerably, spectacularly worse.

Rambo

Your partner doesn’t talk much, doesn’t need to, and will have assessed every threat in your immediate environment before you’ve finished your first sentence. John Rambo is not a man of plans or politics — he is a force of nature shaped by survival, loyalty, and a capacity for endurance that goes beyond anything training can produce. He will not leave you behind. He has never left anyone behind who deserved to come home. What you get with Rambo is the most capable, most quietly ferocious partner imaginable — one who has been through things that would have broken anyone else, and who chose to keep going anyway. You’ll never need to ask if he has your back. You’ll just know.

James Bond

Your partner will arrive perfectly dressed, perfectly briefed, and with a cover story so convincing it’ll take you a moment to remember what’s actually true. James Bond is the most professionally dangerous person in any room he enters — and the most disarmingly charming, which is the point. He operates in a world of layers, where nothing is what it appears and every advantage is used without apology. You’ll never be bored. You’ll occasionally be furious. But when it matters — when the mission is genuinely on the line and the margin for error has collapsed to nothing — Bond is exactly the partner you want. He has survived things that have no business being survivable. He does it with style. That is not nothing.

Indiana Jones

Your partner will know the history, the language, the cultural context, and exactly why the thing everyone else is ignoring is actually the most important thing in the room. Indiana Jones is brilliant, reckless, and occasionally impossible — but he is also one of the most resourceful, most genuinely knowledgeable partners you could find yourself beside. He approaches every situation with a scholar’s eye and a brawler’s instinct, which is an unusual combination and a remarkably effective one. He hates snakes and gets personally attached to objects of historical significance, both of which will slow you down at least once. It doesn’t matter. What Indy brings is irreplaceable — and the adventures you’ll have together will be the kind people write books about. Assuming you survive them.

John McClane

Your partner was not supposed to be here. He does not have the right equipment, the right information, or anything approaching the right odds. He has a sarcastic remark and an absolute refusal to accept that the situation is as bad as it looks. John McClane is the greatest accidental hero in the history of action cinema — a man whose superpower is stubbornness, whose contingency plan is improvisation, and whose capacity to absorb punishment and keep moving would be alarming if it weren’t so useful. He will complain the entire time. He will make it significantly more chaotic than it needed to be. And he will absolutely, unconditionally, without question come through when it counts. Yippee-ki-yay.

Ethan Hunt

Your partner has already run seventeen scenarios by the time you’ve finished reading the briefing, and the plan he’s settled on involves at least two things that should be physically impossible. Ethan Hunt operates at the absolute edge of human capability — technically, physically, and intellectually — and he brings the same relentless precision to protecting his partners that he brings to dismantling organisations that shouldn’t exist. He is not easy to know and he will never fully tell you everything. But he will carry the weight of the mission so completely, so absolutely, that your job is simply to trust him — and the remarkable thing is that trusting him always turns out to be the right call. The mission will be impossible. He will complete it anyway.

A Fresh Face Will Breathe New Life Into ‘The Rookie’

As much as viewers love the familiar characters in the series, it’s also true that The Rookie thrives when it can bring new characters onboard. In that same interview, Hawley stated that rookies are “always an opportunity to serve two stories. One is, who that person is, and then how that person affects everyone around them, especially their training officer.” With that in mind, including at least one brand-new character in Season 9 is an exciting prospect. Not only would a new character inject a different energy into the show, but it would also provide a variety of ideas for storylines for them, especially dramatic ones that can bring the whole crew together. As Hawley mentioned, a new rookie can also highlight different partnerships, and seeing characters paired up in new ways is always fun. Getting to see our beloved, familiar characters in new situations is also a way to insert characters we already know into thrilling scenarios, and allows us to see different sides to their personality.

The world of law enforcement is always changing, so the Mid-Wilshire police precinct needs to reflect that. Bringing in a new rookie can help showcase how the police department is evolving over the years/seasons. It would be entertaining to bring in characters from all walks of life that can also illustrate the diversity of Los Angeles. The Rookie is most successful when there is a naive or rough-around-the-edges rookie who needs to learn the ropes and discover the harsh realities of being a police officer. So, having a young (or old) recruit joining the gang would be instantly compelling to watch. Luckily, we’ll still get to follow the adventures of Miles and his fellow officers, but it’s high time that another rookie gets to come along and shake things up.

The Rookie does need to stay relevant, especially because its spin-off, The Rookie: North, will be debuting soon. The flagship series won’t want to lose any viewers to the new series because audiences are tired of seeing the same characters and storylines. Making Miles a regular member of the force and debuting a new rookie (even if they don’t last) will certainly help ensure that the series stays relevant, even after being on the air for so many seasons.

Seasons 1–8 of The Rookie are available to stream on Hulu. Season 9 will premiere in January 2027.

Jenelle Evans Shares ‘Progress’ Update On Son

Published

on

Jenelle Evans at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards

Jenelle Evans is fully committed to the course of helping her oldest son Jace get back in shape!

The reality star has kept a hands-on approach to seek professional help for her 16-year-old son, who was checked into a mental health facility earlier in the year after he allegedly pulled a gun on his granny.

Jenelle Evans and her mother Barbara Evans have also engaged in a very feisty custody war shortly after the incident happened, with the latter insisting she could do a better job looking after him than her daughter.

The media personality took to her Instagram to share a post about her visit to her son, who is currently addressing his issues with the help of a professional. According to the reality star, the latest set of images is the result of her making a conscious decision to share Jace’s journey in treatment.

In her words: “… He’s working on himself and focusing on his emotions. He’s obviously had ups and downs, but I’m hoping for the best in his future. Here are some awesome pictures of his progress.”

She continued in the caption that she has had to experience some difficult times over the past six months, all for her son’s happiness. Jenelle added that she would do whatever it takes to help her son physically and mentally, and she concluded the caption by declaring, “As his mother I WILL NOT give up,” then wrote hashtag, team Jace.

Jenelle’s photo story featured her teenage son doing a lot of physical activities on his time away, including building tents, rock climbing, fishing, playing the guitar, and even taking a cold plunge outdoors.

On the topic of sharing measured content about her son’s life, The Blast previously noted that the actress broke her silence in March at the peak of public attention on her family.

Jenelle stressed in a TikTok video that she has been forced to declare her innocence in how Jace turned out and also ensure that her family’s privacy remains respected.

However, Jenelle recognized that some unscrupulous elements within her family are hell-bent on disrupting that arrangement and would rather sell stories to the media.

While she did not mention the name of these extended family members, Jenelle had previously condemned her mother and sister, who, according to her, were committed to making her the villain.

Jenelle affirmed her belief in her capability as a good mom, not just to Jace, but to her other kids, noting that when the situation demanded it, she had paused her whole life to attend to her children’s needs.

Jenelle Evans’ Mother Feared Her Grandson Was Struggling Without Her Presence

Jace’s journey to the treatment facility after he allegedly pulled out a gun from Barbara also meant he would be out of her life for a while; an arrangement his grandmother was displeased with.

As shared by The Blast, Barbara revealed that she finds herself calling the facility twice daily to find out about Jace’s well-being, reminding him how much she loves him and is thinking about him. Barbara added that she was certain Jace was having a difficult time there without constant communication with her.

Barbara previously raised Jace for more than a decade after Jenelle voluntarily transferred legal and primary custody of him to her when he was a baby. Jenelle has maintained regular contact with her son, reportedly visiting the facility on a weekly basis.

The reality star has also previously blamed her mother for not doing her best in raising the teenager, accusing her of continuing the same toxic cycle she experienced during her childhood with Barbara.

The 34-year-old did not take the news of her son wielding a weapon at Barbara with a pinch of salt, telling everyone who cared to listen on social media that Barbara and her sister Ashleigh have handled the issue wrongly. Jenelle slammed her mother for betraying her trust despite being there for her during her health struggles.

On one hand, she also watered down her sister’s criticism of her parenting as hypocritical, adding that she also had parenting challenges of her own in the past. Ashleigh trashed reports of Jace pulling a gun at Barbara as false, noting that Jenelle blew up the story online for sympathy narratives.

Jenelle also cleared up the screenshot saga on her own end, claiming that the content was selectively edited and shared after she disciplined him, saying his actions stemmed from frustration rather than the full reality of their relationship.

While admitting the incident was painful, Jenelle said she believes Jace has been dealing with significant personal and medical challenges. She stressed that her focus remains on helping him recover and promised to continue providing whatever support and resources he needs.

Last year, Jace famously moved into his father, Andrew Lewis’ home in Florida, indicating a leap in their relationship after years of estrangement. Jenelle welcomed her eldest child, Jace, with Andrew in 2009, which became the central focus of Jenelle’s debut episode on MTV’s “16 and Pregnant,” which aired in 2010.

Following Jace’s scandal, Andrew registered his interest in fighting for his custody and turned to the public for help by launching a GoFundMe campaign. He shared that he and Barbara have been handicapped financially from the crushing legal and medical bills to bring him home.

However, Barbara has attested to some limitations in the relationship Jace has with Andrew, stating that he was not interested in knowing him and would only ask about him once in a blue moon. When Jace eventually moved in with Andrew in 2025, the reality star was sure it was in his best interest to sample what it felt like living in different households of his parents.

A former dental assistant in Arizona was sentenced to 40 years in prison after he admitted to sexually abusing several minor patients during X-ray exams at a children’s dental office.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office announced in a news release on Friday, July 17, that Deion Garcia learned his sentence after he pleaded guilty to multiple felony charges, including attempted molestation of a child and sexual conduct with a minor.

The statement also revealed that Garcia, 29, will receive lifetime supervised probation for his crimes.

The investigation into Garcia was launched in May 2024 after a parent of one of his victims reported him for sexual abuse while he was working as a dental assistant at a children’s dental office in Chandler, Arizona.

The parent of the 6-year-old girl reported Garcia to Chandler police and claimed that he had “inappropriately touched the victim” and “taken inappropriate photos of her” while administering an X-ray exam, according to the attorney’s office.

Investigators then connected the incident with a previous situation that took place in September 2022. At the time, a different 6-year-old patient was allegedly sexually abused during an X-ray exam.

Investigators also learned that Garcia had “multiple inappropriate images of a 4-year-old victim” on his phone. The attorney’s office said that the victim in the photos was under anesthesia when Garcia allegedly abused them.

Following his arrest, Garcia pleaded guilty to one count of attempted molestation of a child, one count of sexual conduct with a minor and two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a minor. All of the counts he was convicted of are deemed to be dangerous crimes against children.

Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro Sneak Peek Robert Irwin Offers Support to Grieving Dancer

Robert Irwin is proving — again — that music and dance both have the power to heal.

In Us’ exclusive sneak peek of the Monday, July 20, episode of Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro, Robert, 22, sits down with contestant Allen Genkin before an emotional challenge.

“I wanted to visit Allen today because I know he’s telling a very important story and a story that’s hard to tell,” Robert shares. “I want to see if I can help him through it.”

For this week’s challenge, the remaining 10 dancers must bring a personal story to life through dance. While dancing the Rumba to Charlie Puth’s “See You Again” with fellow contestant Adele Zaikman, Allen, 36, hopes to honor his late mom.

“My mom died when I was 15. I lost my best friend,” Allen shares while trying to hold back tears. “Twenty years have gone by and they say time heals all wounds, but it really doesn’t. The only way I can really do it justice is to really showcase it through art and that’s what I’m going to do.”

Robert begins to recall his experience on season 34 of Dancing With the Stars when he honored his mom, Terri Irwin, and late dad, Steve Irwin, during Dedication Night.

To this day, Robert still remembers the emotions he felt after dancing a contemporary routine to Phil Collins’ ballad “You’ll Be in My Heart.”

“As soon as the music stopped, my mom joined me on stage and I completely broke down,” Robert recalls in the preview. “It’s like you’re facing something for the first time in your life that you’ve never had the strength to face. Movement and dance is the thing that gives you the ability to face that.”

Although it’s only week two in the competition, Allen has impressed the judges and viewers with his dance moves.

While attending the Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro Watch Party on July 13, Allen explained why he wanted to make his mom proud throughout the competition.

“My mom’s dream when Dancing with the Stars came out was she said, ‘One day, I envision you on a main stage like that,’” Allen exclusively recalled to Us from The Palm & The Pine in Hollywood. “I kept that dream alive. I kept that story alive, and it pushed me to this moment now. I’m going to keep fighting until I get to that goal.”

As the competition continues, the San Jose, California-based dancer hopes his late mom is able to witness the latest milestone in his dance career from the great beyond.

“I have an angel looking after me and she’s guiding me through all of this,” Allen told Us. “God, I hope she’s watching. I hope she’s proud. I hope I make her proud. That’s all that I care about.”

Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro airs on ABC Mondays at 8 p.m. with episodes available to stream on Hulu and Disney+.

Jerry O’Connell Addresses Giuliana Rancic’s Viral Breakup Claim

Published

on

Jerry O'Connell at the Universal Fan Fest Nights

More than 20 years after his relationship with Giuliana Rancic ended, Jerry O’Connell is taking ownership of one of the most infamous celebrity breakup stories of the early 2000s.

The actor recently reflected on the split during an appearance on Kelly Ripa‘s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast, admitting he was “a terrible boyfriend” while revealing he couldn’t dispute Rancic’s long-standing account of how their relationship came to an end. His comments also offer a new perspective on a breakup that first made headlines again in 2015, when the entertainment journalist detailed the painful split in her memoir “Going Off Script.”

During the podcast, Ripa asked O’Connell about one of the most memorable moments from Rancic’s memoir, in which she claimed he ended their relationship over his condominium’s intercom system. In “Going Off Script,” Rancic recalled O’Connell allegedly telling her, “Nope, sorry, homegirl. Things change, but you take care, OK?”

While O’Connell admitted he doesn’t remember the exact exchange from their 2004 breakup, he also wasn’t prepared to say Rancic got it wrong. “I can’t deny that I said that,” the “Jerry Maguire” actor admitted. “It doesn’t sound like something I would say, but again, if I was writing a memoir, it made for a good quote.”

Rather than criticizing his ex, O’Connell praised the way she told the story. “I applaud her for using colorful dialogue and everything,” he said.

While acknowledging the breakup was handled poorly, O’Connell also offered additional context that wasn’t widely known when Rancic first shared the story in her memoir. Calling himself “a terrible boyfriend” during their 2003-2004 relationship, the actor apologized before revealing another woman was inside his condominium when Rancic unexpectedly arrived.

“[Another woman] was inside my condominium,” he admitted. “Giuliana Rancic wanted entry into my condominium. Thank goodness, buzzer, gate, security. I paid a pretty hefty homeowners’ fee for these things. Cameras and everything.”

Although O’Connell declined to identify the woman, Ripa speculated it could have been either former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell or O’Connell’s future wife, Rebecca Romijn.

The actor also insisted the relationship had already begun unraveling before that moment. “Our relationship was already in trouble,” he explained, adding that he hadn’t expected Rancic to stop by.

“I said, ‘I did not know you were coming. You can’t come here unannounced,’” O’Connell recalled. “Notice no one had a key, so the relationship was not like that. There was no warning, and I didn’t want someone coming in because I didn’t want any confrontation.”

Giuliana Rancic’s Memoir Kept The Story Alive For Years

Although O’Connell and Rancic split more than two decades ago, the breakup became part of Hollywood lore after the television personality revisited the relationship in her 2015 memoir.

Along with recounting the intercom incident, Rancic accused O’Connell of cheating on her with Geri Halliwell and compared his reaction during the breakup to an airline employee delivering bad news. “[He gave me] as much emotion as the customer service representative who tells you your bags missed the flight,” she wrote.

Rather than push back against that characterization, O’Connell again complimented Rancic’s storytelling during the podcast.

When Ripa referenced the cheating allegations, O’Connell called Rancic “a smart girl” and described her writing as “great,” suggesting he appreciated the colorful way she recounted their relationship despite being at the center of it.

Jerry O’Connell Also Looked Back On Dating Sarah Michelle Gellar

Elsewhere during the interview, O’Connell reflected on another famous relationship from his younger years, joking about going on “literally one date” with Sarah Michelle Gellar before she decided not to pursue things further. “We were kids, and Sarah Michelle dumped my ass,” he joked. “She was the smartest one. Sarah Michelle took one look at me and was like, ‘I’ve got to get away from this drunk. One and done.’”

O’Connell quickly added that he has no interest in revisiting that chapter, joking that he doesn’t “want any beef” with Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., while praising the couple’s longtime marriage and “beautiful family.”

Today, O’Connell has been married to Romijn since 2007, and the couple shares twin daughters.

Days of our Lives 2-Week Spoilers July 20-31: Lexie’s Heartbreaking Deathbed Crisis & Leo Panics

Published

on

Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Lexie Carver (Nikki Crawford) - Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart)

Days of Our Lives 2-Week Spoilers for July 20 – 31, 2026 scare with Lexie Carver (Nikki Crawford) collapsing in public and being rushed to the hospital where she is on her deathbed soon. Plus, Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) is in panic mode and determined to save his bestie Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien).

Also, in the two weeks from July 20th through the 31st, expect to see EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) trying to tie up loose ends as things continue to unravel for him. Plus, Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) is desperate to avoid consequences and Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) faces an emotional shocker.

Days of our Lives Spoilers: Holly in the Hot Seat

On Monday, July 20th, it’s the last day of July sweeps. And we know that Tate Black (Leo Howard) found the pills in Holly Jonas’ (Ashley Puzemis) bag on Friday. So, we’re going to pick back up with that on Monday. And of course, we know that EJ planted the Coriseal while Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) and Xander Cook Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) are away. Tate has to tell Sarah about the pills he found.

She’ll confirm they’re Coriseal and they assume the worst of Holly. So then Tate and Sarah confront Holly about the pills. And Holly’s asking Sarah if she can go home, Sarah says she can’t. And when Holly asks why not, Sarah says because of the pills and waggles the little packet of drugs that EJ planted. So Holly’s going to be stunned when Tate says he found them in her bag. Holly insists the pills are not hers. They will not believe her.

Days of our Lives Spoilers: EJ Sets Holly Up & Apologizes to Cat

And when Tate asks if they can talk, Holly explodes at Tate in front of Sarah. And Holly’s going to explode at Sarah. Also, she feels like everybody is accusing her except EJ, which is really sad because he is the one who’s setting Holly up. Also, Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord) gets an apology from EJ. And this may be because she’s stressed out.

She’ll lose her job if EJ can’t keep the hospital. Not that Cat’s really stressed out about it, but EJ may tell Cat he’ll straighten it out. And EJ may be feeling cocky since he’s got Gwen on ice, so she can’t finish the deal to buy the hospital. And of course, Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) will wonder why Gwen is ghosting her.

DOOL Spoilers: Lexie’s Terminal Collapse and Escape Plans

Leo admits something to Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) in therapy, something difficult, and it may be Leo saying that he realizes he’s lost Javi Hernandez (Jacob Martinez) for good. Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) and Belle Black (Martha Madison) discuss the clue from the chess set and the letter and they realize that all the clues are pointing to Italy. Sounds to me like we’re going to get a trip to Venice or wherever. But of course Days of our Lives can’t afford a location shoot. So, they’re going to set dress one of those Salem rooms to look like an Italian hotel, I’m sure, and just use stock footage of Europe.

So, Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) is listening as Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez) is griping. I suspect this is her venting to her FBI brother Rafe about the counterfeit bag that Gwen bought. And of course, she showed Gabi a couple of websites that were selling her fake merchandise. On the plus side, Gabi should have a large deposit in her bank account, which is her inheritance from Stefano DiMera’s (Joseph Mascolo) estate.

Days Spoilers: Foster Apologizes to Julie

Then on Tuesday, July 21st, we’ve got Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) getting an apology from Foster. I’m sure it’s about him bailing on the concert. Eli Grant (Lamon Archey) and Lani Price (Sal Stowers) have a nice time celebrating their anniversary. Eli surprises Lani with a gorgeous necklace and a fun afternoon at the Salem Inn. Gabi stuns Xander and Philip Kiriakis (John-Paul Lavoisier) when she drops the bombshell on them that she’s got the money.

But she’s taking back her offer to bail out Titan. Gabi will not invest her DiMera inheritance in them. And Xander and Philip are shocked and they want to know why she changed her mind. So, I wonder if Xander’s going to push Philip to guilt Gabi into investing. I doubt Xander’s going to let her walk out the door without him doing all he can to change Gabi’s mind.

Kristen has this brilliant idea that she and Lexie need to leave Salem together. She already warned Kristen about EJ’s plan to snatch her up and Lexie’s going to need a caretaker as she withers away and dies. So, the DiMera sisters may cook up an exit plan. Of course, it’s going to go awry, but they both have to say goodbye to loved ones first.

Days of our Lives Spoilers: Kayla Makes Cat and Offer

Then on Wednesday, July 22nd, Cat gets an offer from Kayla. Is this Kayla offering Cat a job where she can stay at the hospital once EJ’s officially out? Of course, Cat really probably doesn’t want that job because she works for the ISA and she’s only there to spy on EJ. Gabi teams up with Leo. I suspect it’s about Gwen. This week, Leo stops by Gwen’s room at the Salem Inn and he realizes her bed wasn’t slept in.

So, Leo knows Gwen didn’t make it back the night before, and he may tell Gabi that Gwen warned him if something happened to her, that EJ did it. Holly angrily denies taking pills and keeps insisting they’re not hers. Tate and Sarah don’t seem to believe her. We’re going to see a crying Holly with her bags packed. And it looks like she might actually walk out of the hospital when Sarah’s back is turned.

Tate’s back, too. Sarah asks for Xander’s help. But I wonder if Sarah will tell Xander about the drugs that Tate found in Holly’s bag and ask if Xander saw the pills since he’s the one who packed her things. If he confirms that Holly’s bag was empty before he packed it, that might signal to Sarah that there’s more to this.

EJ’s worried and talks things through with Rita. This may be about him losing the hospital or Johnny being so upset with him or maybe about EJ’s guilt over setting up Holly.

DOOL Spoilers: Goodbye Moments and Exposed Conspiracies

Thursday, July 23rd. We have Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) telling Jada Hunter (Elia Cantu) his feelings. So, it sounds like Shawn is falling for Jada. Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) is venting to Belle. I’m sure it’s another tirade about Joy Wesley (AlexAnn Hopkins). Speaking of that, Chad is there for Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) who’s feeling torn on all sides.

Kristen has a sweet moment with Rachel Black (Lorelei Olivia Mote). And as Brady watches with tears in his eyes, Kristen is hugging Rachel and telling her, “You are my heart and my greatest treasure.” And Kristen tells Rachel that she wants her life to be bright and beautiful. Clearly, Kristen’s planning on ditching her daughter, and Brady may realize this is some sort of goodbye.

Lexie and Abe Carver (James Reynolds) renew their vows. Lexie seems to want this final moment before she bails on Theo and Abe so they don’t have to watch her die all over again. But Lexie isn’t going to make it out of Salem. And she and Kristen’s whole plan to run off isn’t going to work out. Instead Lexie is going to wind up in the hospital and we’ll see. But she may collapse at the vow renewal.

Days of our Lives Spoilers: Johnny Goes Off on EJ

Then on Friday, July 24th, Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) is blasting EJ with accusations. He’s asking Johnny, “What’s this about?” And he wants to know if EJ planted the drugs in Holly’s bag. Well, of course EJ did, but will he actually tell Johnny? He’s been pretty transparent with him, but I don’t think the more criminal things like kidnapping Gwen and things like that are things that EJ will share with his son.

Sarah and Xander share a peaceful moment. Despite them getting closer, Sarah and Brady will soon swap “I love yous.” And Kayla and Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) are worried about what is ahead. There’s trouble at the hospital with Coriseal. There’s the EJ stuff, trouble with Stephanie’s marriage that’s not going away ever, and lots more happening. Leo convinces someone to help him.

This may be about Gwen, especially if this person is the lawyer that Gwen used to hold that stack of EJ’s secrets and receipts that can expose him. Leo’s supposed to get them after Gwen’s been gone a certain amount of time, but Leo may try to get those materials earlier to force EJ’s hand, so he has to give Gwen back.

Days Spoilers: Lexie’s Final Days and Unraveling Conspiracies

The week of July 27th through the 31st, Kristen’s time is just about up. After Lexie collapses, she’ll wind up at the hospital after the vow renewal with Abe. That was supposed to be their final moment before Lexie slunk off to die with just her sister at her side. Abe and Theo Carver (Tyler Joseph Andrews) are panicking as Lexie begins to slip away. They’re facing losing her again.

And while Abe is going to rage at EJ when he comes to the hospital, as this goes on, he and Theo may ask EJ if there’s any way to stop what’s happening to Lexie. So, their desperation may have them looking for any solutions to keep her with them, even if that means turning to EJ. Gabi may offer Theo her support once she hears what’s going on with his mom, Lexie. And Holly is frustrated with her life with the lawsuit, with Sarah and Tate and Brady and others, thinking she’s taking pills.

So, Holly may consider bailing on Salem because life is too hard for her there. Cat does more hypnosis with Marlena soon, and we’ll find out just how deep she got in with EJ in Italy, and Belle and Chad could take the DiMera private jet to Italy following the next clue they get. But there was that Irish symbol as well, so we’ll see how it goes. Also, soon we’re going to see the guy who’s keeping track of them on spy cameras who’s orchestrating the delivery of all these clues.

Young and Restless 2-Week Spoilers July 20-31: Nick’s Total Meltdown & Sally in Desperate Scramble

Published

on

Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) - Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope)

Young and the Restless 2-Week Spoilers for July 20 – 31, 2026 begin with Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) spiraling. And when he sees an ex-wife doing something very sketchy, he may actually relapse. Also, Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) is scrambling with threats to her business in a tempting offer that could save her.

Also, during the two weeks of July 20th through the 31st, we’re going to see Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) get her bandages off and we find out if her eyesight is working. There’s a big secret that Jill Abbott (Lauren Koslow) is keeping and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) is going all out for family. Let’s get right to it.

Young and the Restless: Matt’s Departure and Newman Family Drama

On Monday, July 20th, we have got Matt Clark (Roger Howorth) telling Noah Newman (Lucas Adams) and Sienna Bacall (Tamara Braun), Nick and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case), that he is leaving town. Noah lectures him on forgiveness and Matt snaps that Noah slept with his wife and never apologized. Then Nick gets in Matt’s face and asks what is his next move. Matt wants to leave Genoa City, make a life, find somebody to love. Sounds nice. Sharon wants Matt gone and she offers to help him pack.

Matt doubts that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) will let him go, but Nick says he’ll take care of that. And Sienna agrees it’s best for everybody if Matt leaves town. He wishes Sienna and Noah good luck with the Shadow Room. Says sorry for all the pain he caused. And Matt walks out.

Y&R Spoilers: Victor Rages

Meanwhile, Nikki asks Victor if he’d even be speaking to her if she wasn’t blind. Nikki knows he’s furious that she went to see Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) in the hospital. And Nikki tells Victor that Jack is her friend, but he tells Nikki she’s got to cut Jack out of her life. Nikki claps back about him letting Matt live on the ranch and then treating her best friend like this. Nikki walks away but stops to tell Victor she’ll always love him despite what he has done.

He’s mad and that’s when Matt shows up to tell Victor he can’t get the dirt on Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) and just wants to leave Genoa City. Victor says no and then he threatens him. Matt says the rest of his family wants him gone. Walks out and then Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) meets up with Matt after he leaves the new ranch very upset and he’s telling Phyllis he just wants to leave town. He is tired of being emotionally kicked and always being the villain. But Phyllis also refuses to let Matt go, just like Victor.

Young and Restless Spoilers: Adam’s Shocking Offer

Elsewhere, Sally is looking at nursery paint colors as Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) strolls up. He reminds her the color that she was going to paint their baby Ava’s nursery. And then Adam proposes a plan to take care of Newman Media so that Victor won’t try and destroy her and Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver).

Adam says that Victor will never take Sally’s offer to sell to him. So, Adam suggests that he will secretly pay her for Newman Media. Sally will sign it over to him and then Adam will tell Victor that he yanked it away from her just like his dad wants to do. And Adam says Victor will think he won. And Sally asks why Adam is willing to risk his father’s eye over this. And he says Victor shut him out of Newman Enterprises.

So, he promises Sally that only her and Audra and him and Chelsea Newman (Melissa Claire Egan) will know about this deal. Sally doesn’t want to owe Adam, but he says he’s the one who owes Sally, and he always will. It’s very sweet. I miss them together as a couple.

Across town, Noah checks on Sharon, who wishes that Nick would just let Victor handle Matt because Sharon’s afraid that this is too much on Nick and he may relapse. Victor and Nick talk about Matt wanting to leave town, and Victor asks Nick if he was in charge of Matt’s fate, what would it be?

Young and the Restless: Markham Search and Nikki’s Medical Appointment

Then on Tuesday, July 21st, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) share secrets with each other. And I wonder if Kyle drops the bombshell that Patty Williams (Stacy Haiduk) rolled over on Victor and is going to give the DA evidence that her dad orchestrated all of this madness done to Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) and Jack. We don’t know if that’s the deal that Kyle made with Patty. I know it’s the deal he wants. So maybe we’ll find out that he made it happen.

And speaking of them, Diane is thrilled that Jack is now at home, but he’s still recovering. But at least Diane gets to cuddle with him. And she wants loose ends tied up, particularly with Dr. Markham. She wants that guy behind bars so she can breathe.

So, Diane presses Traci about Martin Laurent (Christopher Cousins), who of course is Tracy’s sociopathic ex. Diane thinks Martin may have a clue how to find Markham, who had tons of Alan Laurent (also Christopher Cousins) books on his shelves. But Traci tells Diane that Martin will never talk to her. But Traci admits that Martin would talk to her. And of course, Traci never wanted to lay eyes on that creep again, but she is willing to do it for Diane. So, we’ll have scenes of Christopher Cousins as Martin talking with Traci soon.

Y&R Spoilers: Victor Makes Nikke a Promise

Then on Wednesday, July 22nd, Victor promises Nikki something as she is up at the doctor’s office. Victor’s there with her. The doctor takes off Nikki’s bandages and then Victor holds her hand and the doctor says to Nikki, “It’s time to open your eyes.” I would be shocked if she can see. There should be more to this story. Phyllis is watching Matt like a hawk. Phyllis does not want Matt to leave Genoa City, and she may tempt him to stay by seducing him on Young and the Restless.

Because this week, Phyllis has Matt in her room at the GCAC. She’s in sexy blue satin pajamas that are practically falling off of her as she flirts. And we know that Nick is going to catch Matt and Phyllis in a compromising position soon. And that could be what sends him spiraling back to drugs. Also, it’s just gross to see a woman seducing a man who assaulted her friend. I’m sorry. It’s awful. Josh Griffith needs therapy.

Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nick Fesses Up

Thursday, July 23rd, Nick makes a confession to Sharon, and I wonder if it’s Nick saying out loud, actually confirming that he wants Matt dead. Then again, Nick may tell Sharon that he popped a pill and needs a meeting. Sally and Audra consider their options. I’m sure Sally’s going to run to Audra and tell her about Adam’s offer. They may feel like they have no choice but to accept.

Chelsea and Adam try to impress Victor with a power move they are planning. I expect Adam and Chelsea to lie and to tell Victor that he’s right. They need to get back Newman Media, but they’re going to take care of it. They’re going to snatch it from Sally. They’re going to be ruthless. I am guessing that Victor will be skeptical about their reversal of attitude.

Young and the Restless: Secrets and Health Crises

Then on Friday, July 24th, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Sally find out Jill’s keeping a secret from them. Could be about business with Victor. Maybe she’s investing in Chancellor to help Cane or it could be something about her heart condition and Billy finds out his mom is dying.

And if Cane finds out first, Billy will have a meltdown. We also have Cane driving a hard bargain with somebody on Friday.  Could be about Billy and the whole deal for him to work at Chancellor or it could be something fun and flirty with Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) because they are sparking every time they’re together these days.

Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) and Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) find common ground. I’m sure that’s about Abigail and Dominic. And I wonder if Devon will open up to Ashley about his anger issues. Maybe he’ll get some good advice from his mother-in-law.

Young and the Restless Spoilers: Nick Pushed Over the Edge?

Then the week of July 27th through the 31st, we could see Nick popping some pills because he’s ramping up to deliver the fate that he and Victor agreed Matt should face. Nick seeing his ex-wife Phyllis in Matt’s arms might push him over the edge towards violence and possibly also drugs. We’ll find out more about Jill’s big secret and how it’s going to affect Billy and Cane and many others. Sally and Audra let Adam know what they decided about his sneaky scheme to trick Victor.

And Tracy’s probably going to have some PTSD after having to see her ex-fiancé Martin. And we’ll find out if he has any idea where to find Dr. Markham or if he knows that his dead brother Alan Laurent and Dr. Markham perhaps knew each other. I also expect Ashley to leave town again now that Jack is on the road to recovery. We’ll find out if Kyle cut a devil’s bargain with Patty that will make Victor face consequences at last. And we’ll get more on Nikki’s health struggle and find out the extent of what Victor did with Patty and whether Nikki can live with that or not.

“Yesterday’s Enterprise” isn’t just a great episode of The Next Generation; it’s arguably in the running for the best Star Trek episode ever made. The story takes our characters to a much darker place than they have ever been before, all while emphasizing the need to fight for a better universe. As the cherry on top, the writers used the timey-wimey nature of this episode to bring back a beloved character who had died back in Season 1: Tasha Yar, who lost her life fighting an evil oil slick named Armus. In the altered reality of “Yesterday’s Enterprise,” that never happened, and Yar was very much alive.

Unfortunately, that didn’t last very long. The Tasha of this universe decides to travel back in time, leading the crew of the Enterprise-C on a suicide mission into the past. She succeeds in restoring reality, but this ultimately comes at the expense of her own life. At the time, it seemed shocking that Star Trek: The Next Generation had brought a popular character back just to kill her off again. Why did they do that? According to one of the show’s greatest writers, they wanted to give Tasha Yar a “heroic sacrifice” and make up for the crappy way she died in the first season.

Yar Trek: The Next Generation

The plot of “Yesterday’s Enterprise” is that when the Enterprise-C travels forward in time instead of getting destroyed, it alters history for the worse. The Federation is now losing a bitter war with the Klingons. Thanks to information from Guinan, Captain Picard authorizes a risky plan to send the Enterprise-C back in time, where it was destined to be destroyed while defending a Klingon outpost. He hopes that this will restore the timeline, saving countless lives from pointless slaughter. Ironically, this plan involves sacrificing someone who should already be dead: Tasha Yar, who leads the Enterprise-C back into the past after its captain is killed.

For audiences watching this Star Trek: The Next Generation episode at home, seeing Denise Crosby’s Tasha Yar on the screen again was a very pleasant surprise. This character had died in the Season 1 episode “Skin of Evil,” fighting a living oil slick named Armus. It was sudden and unexpected, and she died the same ignominious kind of death as the various redshirts of The Original Series. Her death added tension to the show, of course; if a main character could suddenly be killed off, then nobody was safe. Still, many thought it would have been better if Tasha Yar’s death had a bit more meaning to it.

A Chance To Kill Her Right

Interestingly, this included the TNG writers who were hired after Season 1. Ronald D. Moore, the veteran Trek writer who went on to create the Battlestar Galactica reboot, described the writing staff’s motivation for bringing Yar back in “Yesterday’s Enterprise.” On the Season 4 DVD special features, he claimed, “We brought Denise back to kill off Tasha Yar a second time. It was a great opportunity to send the character off in a big heroic sacrifice because nobody was really happy with the way she left the series in the first season.” Continuing, he said, “Nobody on the show really liked it, the fans didn’t like it, I’m not sure even she really liked it. So ‘Yesterday’s Enterprise’ was a chance to kill her right.”

Fortunately, Moore and the other writers succeeded in this task. Tasha Yar died to save billions of lives throughout the galaxy by restoring reality and ending a pointless war. “Yesterday’s Enterprise” implied that the Enterprise-C would be destroyed as soon as it returned to the past, killing everyone on board. Later, the two-part episode “Redemption” clarified that the attacking Romulans took a handful of prisoners, including Tasha Yar. Later, she was betrayed by her own half-Romulan child and killed. That child was Sela, who grew up to be one of the scariest threats Picard and the Enterprise-D crew would ever face.

Arguably, “Redemption” ruined Tasha Yar’s act of self-sacrifice. Sure, she still saved an entire reality, but instead of dying in battle, she died at the hands of the evil aliens who captured and violated her. However, one person who had no problem with this retcon was Denise Crosby, who now had another reason to return to the show that she had left back in Season 1. Of course, it’s fair to say her character was having more fun in that first season. Instead of saving the galaxy or forcibly bearing Romulan kids, she was cozying up to a drunken android and performing a job much more rewarding than security chief: Data entry.

Sure, jeans pair well with basic tops, but on days when you’re looking for something a bit more elevated, Reese Witherspoon‘s outfit is the perfect source of inspiration. Her classy blouse style begs to be worn with denim, and we found a near-identical, expensive-looking design on Amazon, on sale for only $13!

Witherspoon recently took to Instagram to share a photo of herself in front of a large American flag. Her look was classic, featuring a white flutter-sleeve blouse, a straw hat and rich mom sunglasses. While we couldn’t see the star’s pants, we really didn’t need to. Her white top stole the show, and since the photo was posted for Independence Day, we could easily envision it styled with jeans or cutoffs.
