‘Project Hail Mary’s Directors Want To Adapt This Impressive Sci-Fi Book Next After Their 95% RT Hit
Project Hail Mary is an undeniable hit among both critics and the audience, so now, everyone is naturally curious about what else directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have lined up. Up next is Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the latest installment in the trilogy Phil Lord and Christopher Miller helped shape as producers and creative leads, which began with 2018’s Into the Spider-Verse. After that, they may tackle yet another Andy Weir novel: Artemis. They have been connected to this project for a while, and, while the book may not have seen the same success as The Martian or Project Hail Mary itself, it still has the marks of a typical Weir novel; this time, however, instead of Mars or any other alien planet, the whole thing is set on the Moon.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s Adaptation of ‘Artemis’ Was Announced in 2017
Recently speaking to THR, Lord and Miller mentioned having “a backlog of like seven or eight things” they want to do after Beyond the Spider-Verse, so they may end up doing something else entirely instead of Artemis, but that is also the first optimistic update we’ve had on the project in, well, years. With the director duo already attached, the Artemis adaptation was initially announced the same year the novel came out, in 2017.
It was, however, a completely different world — the project was being developed by Fox, for example, before its acquisition by Disney two years later. The Martian had already come out and was a hit, so the spotlight was on Weir and his science-y storytelling; unfortunately, news became scarce over the years. The latest update came in 2018, when current Fallout co-showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet took over screenwriting duties. Then, the industry changed completely, and it seems things were left at that point.
Lord and Miller have suggested that a script exists and have spoken positively about its direction, but it isn’t clear whether that remains Robertson-Dworet’s initial script or if it’s a new treatment. The true challenge was figuring out “how to execute one-sixth gravity,” the duo reveals, since the story is set entirely on the Moon, and low gravity plays an important role. If this were a purely technical issue, then it’s apparently resolved, according to them, suggesting that Artemis remains one of several projects in their backlog that could potentially move forward, depending on scheduling and studio priorities.
‘Artemis’ Tells a Coming-of-Age Heist Story Set Entirely on the Moon
Although it’s just as much of a hard sci-fi story as Weir’s other novels, Artemis follows a completely different approach towards hard sci-fi than the usual scientist who has to “science the s*** out of” everything to survive. Here, the story follows Jasmine “Jazz” Bashara, a more hero-type protagonist who is very different from Mark Watney (Matt Damon) and Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling). She is every bit as brave and resourceful as those two, but her novel is unique compared to theirs.
Jazz lives in Artemis, the first city on the Moon, in the late 2080s, and is still learning how to navigate adult life. We meet her as a small-time smuggler who is at odds with everyone in her life, from her father to her best friend, but she has to reevaluate her position when she is recruited by a Norwegian entrepreneur to sabotage his rival’s mining operation. Desperately needing the money, she accepts, but things quickly take a turn for the worse as she suddenly finds herself the target of a huge crime syndicate.
As always, there’s a lot of science in Artemis, and Weir does an incredible job at world-building. The lunar environment plays a role of its own in the story, affecting everything from the way people move at low gravity to Artemis’ own economy. Tourism is the city’s main asset, but with so many people living there to support the tourist influx, other skills have become invaluable, especially welding and security. Still, Artemis didn’t see the same success as Weir’s other novels, but it’s perfectly suited for a movie.
After ‘Project Hail Mary’s Success, Lord and Miller Are the Perfect People to Helm ‘Artemis’
As great as Artemis is, though, it’s still representative of Weir’s honing his skills as a sci-fi writer, looking to tell more character-driven stories and lay out more complex plots in terms of drama, without leaving science behind. It’s an honest attempt, but Jazz’s story could benefit from a more cinematic vision, especially one as clear as Lord and Miller’s. They excel in telling high-concept stories with no small dose of sharp and accessible comedy, of which Project Hail Mary is but one of numerous proofs.
Jazz is the kind of protagonist that Lord and Miller have tackled countless times: funny, flawed, and morally flexible, while remaining an essentially good individual. We’ve seen that in Spider-Verse‘s Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and Katie Mitchell (Abbi Jacobson) in The Mitchells vs. the Machines, for example, both of which helped cement Lord and Miller as household names in Hollywood. This experience of crafting this kind of chaotic, yet sympathetic protagonist makes them the perfect people to bring Jazz to the big screen, too.
Finally, although Project Hail Mary has a contemplative side to it, Lord and Miller are also quite fond of fast-paced narratives. Artemis represents Weir’s first attempt to craft just that in a novel, but it does get sandwiched between science and Jazz’s own drama. Lord and Miller’s protagonists are often forced to grow while in the middle of the action, which would fit perfectly with Artemis‘ narrative. Hopefully, with the success of Project Hail Mary, this adaptation gets bumped up in the duo’s backlog.
Project Hail Mary is currently in theaters.

High Potential Season 2 Finale Kills Steve Howey, Teases Roman
High Potential’s season 2 finale ended on a shocking note after a main character was presumably killed off, Roman’s identity was addressed and fans witnessed a surprise split.
During the Tuesday, April 7, episode of the hit ABC series, Wagner (Steve Howey) and Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) worked together to uncover the ins and outs of her ex Roman’s disappearance. The further they dug into how Wagner’s dad was involved, and Willa’s (Jennifer Jason Leigh) role in the apparent crime, the more the danger escalated.
The finale ultimately showed Wagner preparing to meet someone his father claimed had the answers he needed. By the time Morgan arrived, Wagner was bleeding out and first responders were called to help — but it wasn’t clear whether he survived. (Howey, 48, for his part, has been cast in upcoming seasons of Off Campus and Ransom Canyon, so he could potentially be written off the show.)
Elsewhere in the episode, Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) and Morgan were assigned to a case at Lucia’s (Susan Kelechi Watson) workplace. When a reality TV star was found murdered, Morgan started to question Lucia’s involvement in the case. She realized Lucia helped cover up the crime — and was involved in other criminal behavior before returning to Los Angeles — and Karadec was forced to arrest his girlfriend and break off their relationship.
The finale touched on Roman’s identity by having Willa reveal to Morgan that the FBI agent he was working with was allegedly conspiring against the government. Roman allegedly was also a double agent who seemingly killed the FBI agent when she wanted to come clean.
While Roman wasn’t unmasked, there was a presence at Ava’s (Amirah J) that appeared to be her missing father. The finale left a lot of unanswered questions, which will be addressed when the series returns in season 3.

Before season 2 came to an end, news broke in March that showrunner Todd Harthan exited the show to focus on the upcoming live-action adaptation of Christopher Paolini’s YA book series The Inheritance Cycle. The adaptation — titled Eragon — is cocreated with Paolini and Harthan will serve as coshowrunner alongside Todd Helbing.
High Potential, which premiered in September 2024, was created by Drew Goddard. The pilot was written by Goddard, who was expected to executive produce alongside Sarah Esberg, Rob Thomas, Dan Etheridge, Pierre Laugier, Anthony Lancret, Jean Nainchrik and Alethea Jones.
Thomas, meanwhile, was expected to serve as the showrunner before exiting in June 2024 — months before the series premiere. Harthan was ultimately announced as the new showrunner, who also served as an executive producer.
Harthan teased the vision for the series while speaking to Us Weekly in January.
“It’s a pretty bumpy ride. We’re going to start unpacking some pretty intense things with Morgan, as it relates to all things Roman,” he said at the time.“There are all kinds of trials and tribulations that are going to happen with the kids at home. It’s just going to get messy and complicated — hopefully in all the best ways so that the audience stays on the edge of their seats.”
He concluded, “Our job now as we get to the back half of the second season is to fill in some of the big blanks and progress some of the relationships. You’re going to see some intense things happen between Steve Howey’s character and Captain Wagner really starts to bloom in the back half. That causes some good soapy messes on multiple fronts. It’s just our normal MO of just trying to mix things up and keep the audience engaged and keep them guessing.”
High Potential is now streaming on Hulu.

Dakota Mortensen’s Texts And Tattoo Shock Taylor Frankie Paul
Taylor Frankie Paul’s ongoing legal battle with ex-boyfriend Dakota Mortensen has taken another dramatic turn, with new claims surfacing in court filings that paint a troubling picture of their relationship.
As tensions escalated ahead of her planned reality TV spotlight, Paul alleges Mortensen’s behavior became increasingly intense and unsettling.
Now, with custody disputes, past incidents, and a shocking tattoo revelation in the mix, the situation between the former couple continues to unfold in a very public way.
Taylor Frankie Paul Claims Dakota Mortensen Became ‘Possessive’ Before Premiere

As tensions between Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen continue to escalate, new details about their relationship have begun to emerge through court documents.
Recently, Paul alleged that Mortensen’s behavior changed as her season of “The Bachelorette” approached its planned premiere.
In a filing submitted on April 7 and obtained by PEOPLE, the 31-year-old claimed he showed a “pattern of abusive conduct and coercive control” during their relationship.
According to the filing, Mortensen sent multiple messages expressing his feelings after filming had wrapped but before the show aired.
Paul said he texted things like “I want you forever” and “I still love and want you,” while also asking her to “give me a chance,” on February 16 and 17. These alleged messages were included as screenshots in the filing.
Paul described this period as a turning point, claiming his actions became more intense as her public exposure grew.
Paul Shocked By Mortensen’s Tattoo Move

One of the most startling claims in Taylor Frankie Paul’s filing was that Mortensen allegedly got a tattoo in her honor.
She said she was shown an image of his lips with her initials tattooed inside, which he later confirmed to her over text.
“Considering his increasingly possessive and erratic behavior, and considering the fact that we were not in a relationship, this was extremely alarming,” Paul wrote.
The reality TV star further stated, “My initials are now permanently tattooed on the body of a man who has been abusive toward and possessive of me.”
An insider claimed the tattoo was done on February 14, shortly after Paul shared a Valentine’s Day promotional post for “The Bachelorette.”
The following day, Mortensen allegedly showed the tattoo to cast members while cameras were rolling.
The filing included images of the tattoo, which reads “TFP,” though no exact date for the photos was specified.
Taylor Frankie Paul Accuses Mortensen Of Leaking Video

Paul also accused Dakota Mortensen of playing a role in the release of a video that ultimately derailed her reality TV opportunity.
Just days before the show’s premiere, ABC canceled her season after footage surfaced showing a 2023 altercation between the pair.
In the filing, Paul claimed Mortensen “released” the video to TMZ in an effort to “humiliate” her.
However, she also acknowledged uncertainty about how the footage was obtained, noting it was “presumably Dakota.”
Mortensen denied the allegation, telling PEOPLE at the time, “I am, unfortunately, used to these baseless claims about me and our relationship, which I categorically deny.”
The resurfaced video aligned with a prior incident that led to Paul’s 2023 arrest, where she was accused of throwing metal chairs during an argument.
One of the chairs reportedly struck her daughter during the altercation.
Paul Files For Protective Order Against Mortensen Amid Abuse Claims
Taylor Frankie Paul also filed a protective order against Mortensen, alleging a pattern of abuse and escalating conflict in their relationship.
As reported by The Blast, Paul claimed Mortensen engaged in “a high number of instances of abuse and domestic violence (assault, harassment, and stalking)” and said his actions left her fearing for her safety.
She also accused him of “slamming her head against the dashboard of his truck” during a February incident, which is now part of an ongoing investigation.
In her filing, Paul said their breakup in early 2026 led to behavior that “scared me and made me fear for my safety,” while also claiming his earlier protective order was an attempt to “sabotage” her career.
The request includes protection for both her and their young son, as the legal battle between the former couple continues in court.
Taylor Frankie Paul Loses Show Opportunity Amid Custody Battle With Dakota Mortensen

As the legal drama unfolded, Paul’s professional life was also impacted. Her season of “The Bachelorette,” scheduled to premiere in March, was canceled after the release of the 2023 video.
On the same day as her filing, Mortensen was granted custody of their two-year-old son, Ever, while Paul was given limited supervised visitation until a later hearing.
The fallout has extended into her reality TV career as well. Production on season five of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” was paused after several cast members reportedly refused to film with her amid the controversy.
With court proceedings ongoing and another hearing scheduled, both Paul and Mortensen remain entangled in a situation that continues to affect their personal lives and public careers.

Justin Trudeau’s Son Xav Opens Up About Dad Dating Katy Perry
As an up and coming musician, Justin Trudeau’s son Xavier “Xav” Trudeau is thrilled to see his father dating pop star Katy Perry.
“When I’m really happy with a song [I] send it [to her],” Xav, 18, said of his dynamic with Perry, 41, during the Wednesday, April 8, episode of the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast. “She’s always happy to give me advice or tell me what I should change.”
Xav noted that he has a good relationship with the “Roar” singer and has grown to know her in the year since she and the former Canadian Prime Minister, 54, began dating.
“She’s super nice. She’s super down to earth. She’s great,” Xav added. “I think that my dad’s happy so that’s important.”
While Xav admitted there was some “noise” that comes with his father dating such a public figure, as the son of a former — and prominent — politician he said he’s used to it.
He revealed that seeing a picture of Justin and Perry together is “just like any other picture of my dad and my mom. Or just my dad.”
“My life is so crazy sometimes. I’m like, What is my life? What the hell?” Xav shared. “I just laugh. The reality of it is, it’s my life. What can I do? What can I change?”

When it comes to his own public persona, Xav said he’s learned not to “really care” about what other people think — or write on social media.
“I’ve been told my whole life, ‘Don’t read comments,’” Xav continued, noting that he has always grown up in the spotlight thanks to his dad’s political career. His mother, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, is also a public figure working as a public speaker, published author and mental health advocate.
Xav confessed that he’s not, however, always bulletproof.
“The hate, it gets to me sometimes,” he said. “I guess it’s built into my brain, I think of it as when someone comments on my video, when someone shares my video, when someone likes it, it just helps me.”
While Xav had nothing but good things to say about Perry and her relationship with his father, Justin has kept his feelings about the musician to himself since they were first romantically linked in July 2025.
After the pair were spotted spending time together in Canada, Justin and Perry flew under the radar for a few months. Their romance was brought back into the limelight in October 2025, when they were seen packing on the PDA on a yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara, California.
“She’s very happy,” an insider exclusively told Us Weekly of Perry at the time. “She’s trying to keep it low-key, and they’ve spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship.”
Perry, who shares daughter Daisy, 5, with ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom, has since begun to post more and more intimate moments featuring her and Justin on social media.
Justin, who shares Xav, Ella Grace, 17, and Hadrien, 11, with his ex-wife Sophie, 50, was featured in Perry’s Tokyo roundup in December 2025. He also made an appearance in the singer’s holiday season photo dump posted in January.
Perry showed off her love life with Justin again last month, sharing an Instagram photo of the duo out to dinner.
Check out Xav’s complete interview on the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast now.

Aubrey Plaza Expecting First Baby With Chris Abbott
Aubrey Plaza is reportedly expecting her first child with partner Chris Abbott, marking a joyful milestone for the actress. The news comes a little over a year after the passing of her husband, Jeff Baena, highlighting a new chapter in her personal life. Plaza and Abbott have remained private about their relationship, keeping their romance largely out of the public eye.
Inside Aubrey Plaza’s ‘Beautiful Surprise’

On April 7, an insider confirmed to PEOPLE magazine that Aubrey Plaza is expecting her first child with her partner, actor Chris Abbott. “It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” the source revealed, adding that the couple feels “very blessed.”
The source didn’t reveal how far along Plaza is in her pregnancy, but said the baby is due in the fall.
Plaza and Abbott have maintained a private relationship, and it’s unclear when they began dating. However, they’ve been spotted together on several occasions. In February, they attended New York Fashion Week and sat in the front row together at one of the shows. A month later, Plaza attended Paris Fashion Week shows donning an oversized top that concealed her midsection.
The Couple Worked Together In The Past
Plaza and Abbott have worked together before, first collaborating on the 2020 psychological thriller “Black Bear,” directed by Lawrence Michael Levine and co-produced by the actress.
In it, Plaza played Allison, a filmmaker struggling with personal conflicts, and Abbott portrayed Gabriel, a troubled man who pushes Allison’s boundaries. In an interview with Variety in 2020, Plaza said she wanted Abbott to be in the movie. She had never met the actor before, but had seen him in the 2015 drama film “James White.” She wrote him a letter, and he agreed to be in “Black Bear.”
The two also worked together in the theater production “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea” from 2023 to 2024, where Plaza, making her stage debut, portrayed the role of Roberta opposite Abbott’s Danny.
Back then, the “Parks and Recreation” actress said she was “nervous” to star in her first professional theater performance, but agreed to do it for the love of the story and the character. It was also another opportunity to work with Abbott, whom she described as “one of the best actors around.”
Aubrey Plaza’s Husband Died In 2025

On January 3, 2025, Plaza’s husband, Jeff Baena, was discovered deceased in his Los Angeles home. It was later determined that the 47-year-old filmmaker died by suicide, as previously reported by The Blast.
Plaza and Baena began dating in 2011 but kept their romance largely out of the public eye. The couple collaborated on several projects during their relationship, including “Life After Beth,” “Joshy,” and “Spin Me Round.” In 2021, Plaza casually referred to Baena as her “darling husband” in an Instagram post, sparking marriage rumors.
In an interview on “The Ellen Show” in 2021, Plaza shared the story of her “spontaneous” wedding, telling the host that she and Baena married in their backyard on a whim, hiring an officiant online. “It was our 10-year anniversary, we were in the lockdown,” she said, adding that it was a “crazy” time.
The actress created a “love altar” in the yard while Baena picked up food from a restaurant, and they were married by a man in a Hawaiian shirt.
The Couple Was Separated When Jeff Baena Died

Following Baena’s death, it was revealed that the couple had been separated for months, explaining Plaza’s absence from their home. According to reports, the couple split in September 2024, with Plaza moving to New York.
Several months later, the actress opened up about the tragic incident on former co-star Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast. At that time, Plaza said she was happy in that specific moment, but admitted to still struggling with her grief.
“Overall, I’m here and functioning. I feel really grateful to be moving through the world. I think I’m okay, but it’s like a daily struggle, obviously,” Plaza explained, comparing her feelings to a gorge. “At all times there’s like this giant ocean of awfulness,” she added.
Aubrey Plaza’s Upcoming Projects

Plaza has been busy with a slew of projects, with the adult animated series “Kevin” she co-created with Joe Wengert premiering on Prime Video on April 20.
The actress is also producing and starring in “The Heidi Fleiss Story,” a film focusing on the life of Heidi Fleiss, also known as the Hollywood Madam, who ran an upscale and exclusive prostitution ring in Los Angeles in the ’90s.

Sabrina Carpenter Is Unrecognizable With Brown Hair, Bangs
Sabrina Carpenter proved she shines no matter what shade of hair she rocks.
Carpenter, 26, was unrecognizable while posing for Perfect Magazine in a brunette wig on Tuesday, April 7. Her hair, which was much darker from her signature honey blonde mane, was worn down and straightened. Her look was finished with short bangs cut above her eyebrows.
Carpenter complimented her wig with a black manicure and soft makeup, including rosy cheeks, light pink lips and mascara.
Fans went wild over her look via social media. “Omg didn’t even recognize her!! ❤️,” one wrote, while a second added, “ooo the black hair looks good.” A third commented, “Full on shape shifting ❤️.”
While chatting with the publication, Carpenter, who was styled by fashion editor Katie Eleanor Grand, opened up about her dark makeover, sharing, “I love to play dress up. This shoot was really fun for that reason.”
She added, “We got to really try some looks that I’ve never tried before. Lots of wigs, lots of different makeup for me, lots of shapes that maybe I wouldn’t normally wear. I can just play a little bit more with editorial. It was really fun.”
Carpenter also got candid about her upcoming gig headlining Coachella on Friday, April 10, and April 17, which she manifested two years ago while performing on the same stage.
“Now, two years later, we’re back,” she said. “And I think that’s what makes this show feel really, really surreal: getting to celebrate all the songs that have come after it, and just how many lives they’ve lived since they’ve come out.”
Photographed by Bryce Anderson, Carpenter continued, “When I’m on stage, there’s a button. I think it’s been this way ever since I was young. And when you’re singing these songs, whether these songs be your personal stories or songs you wrote about other people, in that moment, it really becomes a show.”
Carpenter explained, “I’ve always been able to differentiate when I get off stage. I am a human being. I’m a 26-year-old girl. I’m hormonal. I’m emotional. I’m dealing with a lot of stuff. For me, it really just has been compartmentalising the moments where I feel like the show must go on and then moments where I can really allow myself to be a little all over the place and allow that to be OK.”

Trump To Pause Bombing Amid “Workable” Peace Plan
U.S. President Donald Trump said late Tuesday he’s pulling back on his threats to attack Iranian bridges, power plants, and other civilian targets. His decision depends on Iran agreeing to a two-week ceasefire and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also said Iran has proposed a “workable” 10-point peace plan that could help end the war the U.S. and Israel launched on Feb. 28. Early Tuesday, Trump threatened that “a whole civilization will die tonight,” doubling down on an 8 p.m. EST deadline to reach a deal.
RELATED: Trump Warns “A Whole Civilization Will Die Tonight” As Iran Says 14 Million Are Ready To Defend Nation (UPDATE)
Trump Pulls Back Iran Threat Amid Peace Plan Proposal
In a post on his social media site, Donald Trump said Iran could agree “to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz” and said that he’d then “suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.” He cited conversations with Pakistani officials as the basis for these negotiations.
The update was shared at 6:32 local Washington D.C. time, about an hour and a half from his deadline. Also, the president said in his post that Iran has presented “a workable basis on which to negotiate.”
“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE! The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East. We received a 10 point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate. Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and consummated. On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also representing the Countries of the Middle East, it is an Honor to have this Longterm problem close to resolution. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP,” the Truth Social post said.
Donald Trump had previously threatened Tuesday that a “whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran fails to meet his latest deadline to strike a deal. His terms include reopening the strait through. During peacetime, a fifth of hte world’s oil is transported through it.
Since the war began, Trump has repeatedly imposed deadlines linked to threats, only to extend them. Tehran previously rejected a 45-day ceasefire proposal by Egyptian, Pakistani and Turkish mediators. The nation sought a permanent end to the war.
Iran Vowed To Reciprocate Trump’s Energy
Tehran’s representative at the U.N., Amir-Saeid Iravani, said the threats “constitute incitement to war crimes and potentially genocide.” Iravani also said Iran would “take immediate and proportionate reciprocal measures” if Trump launches devastating strikes.
For context, the U.S. and Israel have battered Iran with attacks targeting its military capabilities, leadership and nuclear program. Iran has responded with a stream of strikes on Israel and Gulf Arab neighbors, causing regional chaos and outsized economic and political shock.
Early Tuesday, Iran’s president said 14 million people, including himself, have volunteered to fight. The president said his volunteers are ready to sacrifice their lives behind the nation.
More than 14 million proud Iranians have so far registered to sacrifice their lives to defend Iran. I too have been, am, and will remain devoted to giving my life for Iran. https://t.co/B9GBHAAEMu
— Masoud Pezeshkian (@drpezeshkian) April 7, 2026
Additionally, a general in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard general warned that Iran would “deprive the U.S. and its allies of the region’s oil and gas for years” and expand its attacks across the Gulf region if Trump carries out his threat.
Iran was standing on business, despite Trump saying that U.S. forces could wipe out all bridges in Iran in a matter of hours. Trump also claimed the U.S. could reduce all power plants to smoking rubble in roughly the same time frame.
“Civilization” Death Threat Caught National And International Heat
Late Tuesday, Pakistan’s prime minister urged Trump to extend his deadline by two weeks to allow diplomacy to advance. In a post on X, Shehbaz Sharif, whose country has been leading negotiations, also asked Iran to open up for two weeks the Strait of Hormuz.
Before the deadline, airstrikes hit two bridges and a train station. Also, the U.S. hit military infrastructure on Kharg Island, a key hub for Iranian oil production. It was not clear if airstrikes against Iran on Tuesday were linked to Trump’s threats to widen the civilian target list. At least two of the targets were connected to Iran’s rail network. Additionally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli warplanes struck bridges and railways in Iran. Tehran, Iran, fired on Israel and Saudi Arabia, prompting the temporary closure of a major bridge.
Trump’s shocking threats between Easter Sunday and Tuesday did not seem to account for potential harm to civilians. His words prompted Democrats in Congress, some United Nations officials, French officials and even scholars in military law to say such strikes would violate international law.
In Rome, Pope Leo XIV said Tuesday that the threats were “truly unacceptable” and that such attacks would violate international law. Also, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said that attacks targeting civilian and energy infrastructure could constitute a war crime.
