For the most part, Star Trek: The Next Generation was a pretty tame show. It may have constantly put Marina Sirtis in skimpy outfits, but this is the last series where you might expect a character to make a vulgar joke.

Nevertheless, one such joke is hidden inside one of the show’s most important episodes. In “The Price,” a Ferengi uses his hands to tell a hapless ensign about how large his member is, in a moment that seems wildly out of place in this Star Trek spinoff. 

The Infamous Gesture

If it’s been a hot minute since you watched “The Price,” here’s a quick recap: in this Star Trek adventure, different governments negotiate for the rights to what is supposedly a stable wormhole to the other side of the galaxy. Some of the representatives at these negotiations are Ferengi, a race known for their greed and general misogyny toward women. The latter quality is on full display in a scene where the Ferengi Goss makes a hand gesture toward Ensign Bailey; later, the Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion confirmed he was referencing the size of his “sex organ.”

This vulgar display is a real “blink and you miss it” moment…one that, in fact, most Star Trek fans missed entirely. But why is this moment in the episode at all? While we can only speculate, it’s entirely possible that director Robert Scheerer included this as a reference to another thing most fans don’t know about: Gene Roddenberry’s weird fascination with the Ferengi having huge members.

Gene Roddenberry Wanted Giant Ferengi Codpieces

Years before “The Price” aired, Roddenberry helped create the Ferengi as a new villain for our heroes to face, one that would function like the Klingons did in Star Trek: The Original Series. In a 1987 memo, the Trek creator described the Ferengi as having “prodigious sexual appetites”, and TNG producer Herb Wright later claimed that the Ferengi were manifestations of Roddenberry’s own “sex fetish.” Wright claims that Roddenberry wanted “wanted to put a gigantic codpiece on the Ferengi” as a way of confirming for audiences that these aliens were very well-endowed.

Continuing, Wright said that Roddenberry “spent 25 minutes explaining to me all the sexual positions the Ferengi could go through.” Eventually, the producer shut down all of this weird talk by telling the franchise creator that they couldn’t have all of this spicy content because “this is a family show, on at 7:00 on Saturdays.” Roddenberry agreed, and Ferengi size is not confirmed onscreen, though these misogynistic aliens retained their outsized sexual appetites as originally conceived by the Trek guru.

Was The Price A Nod To Gene Roddenberry?

It’s entirely possible that having a Ferengi brag about his size in “The Price” is a way of honoring the Star Trek creator’s original vision for these aliens. It’s also possible, of course, that this is simply a fun visual gag about a minor character bragging about his anatomy in a memorably vulgar way. These aliens are often portrayed as crude caricatures of modern capitalists, so having one of them focused on the size of his stick of latinum would be perfectly in line with their other onscreen portrayals.

As for us, we like to think that “The Price” is a way of honoring Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry’s wildly horny vision for these avaricious aliens. However, we may never know if Goss (presuming he was telling the truth) is uniquely endowed or if the Ferengi are collectively rocking a very thick endowment (presumably from the Great Material Continuum).

OnlyFans star Sophie Rain has joined the people voicing their concerns over Sydney Sweeney‘s scenes in the new season of the hit series, “Euphoria.”

The actress is facing scrutiny after her character, Cassie, was shown dressed as a baby and then a dog in an attempt to grow her presence on the adult platform.

Now, reacting to the controversial Sydney Sweeney scenes, Sophie Rain noted that they were “disturbing” to her, and were being “dramatized” for “shock value.”

While praising the show for “bringing OnlyFans into the entertainment space,” Rain told TMZ that she found scenes depicting Sweeney’s character as an adult content creator on the platform “disturbing.”

She said, “I think the way they are doing it is overdramatized. I’ve seen her dressed as a dog. Like being pulled around on a leash, and like, I just think that’s crazy. I’d never do that. They are definitely just making it dramatic for entertainment, but it’s not reality.”

“I don’t know any massive OnlyFans creators that are putting on a dog outfit, especially her dressed up as an infant,” Rain continued, adding, “that was really disturbing to see for me at least. That should almost be illegal.”

Speaking more on the issue, Rain stated that she “loves” Sweeney’s character on the show as she “plays it very well.”

“I just don’t agree with it. We shouldn’t be portraying OnlyFans that way because a lot of young girls watch ‘Euphoria’, and I just think it’s very misleading,” Rain explained.

In the new season of the show, Sweeney’s character, Cassie, has turned to adult content creation in hopes of making her own money amid her engagement to Nate (played by Jacob Elordi). The controversial scenes then pop up when she stages provocative photo shoots in an attempt to grow her popularity on the platform.

In one of the scenes, Sweeney’s character was dressed as a baby in a diaper, sucking on a pacifier, while holding her legs up with her hands. In another, the actress donned a dog costume while also acting like one on all fours.

On social media, the reaction to Sweeney’s scenes was even more ruthless, with many fans blasting the actress for agreeing to the script.

A person on X wrote, “So Sydney Sweeny saw this in the script and still agreed to do this? Both Sam Levinson and Sydney Sweeney, and everyone who is involved in this, should be banned.”

Another noted, “This is so embarrassing even for Jacob. But, how Sydney Sweeney can agree to do something like this? It’s like a humiliation ritual.”

“Hey, Sidney Sweeney …. you can set standards for yourself. This is repulsive,” one more individual said of the controversial scenes.

The Actress Previously Defended Her Steamy’ Euphoria’ Role

Sweeney’s character on the show has always been a major subject of debate, even from the first season, and the actress has had to defend the vision behind the role and its explicit scenes.

During a 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she explained that she was not bothered by her raunchy scenes and “won’t stop doing them.”

According to Sweeney, such eyebrow-raising scenes are not for shock value, but help with the development of the story.

“People forget that I’m playing a character, they think, ‘Oh, she gets naked onscreen, she’s a sex symbol,’” the actress told the publication. “And I can’t get past that. I have no problems with those scenes, and I won’t stop doing them, but I wish there was an easier way to have an open conversation about what we’re assuming about actors in the industry.”

Justin Fairfax, 47, and his wife, Dr. Fairfax, 49, were found dead in their home in the Washington, D.C., suburb of Annandale. Their teenage son called 911 shortly after midnight, Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said. He and his sibling were both home when the murder-suicide occurred.

The couple was separated and going through a divorce. A court filing said the couple separated in 2024 and filed for divorce last year. The couple had been married since 2006. Despite the pending divorce, they were still living in the same house with their two children. Justin Fairfax was served recently with paperwork telling him when to appear in court next, Chief Davis said.

In January, officers went to the home after Justin Fairfax alleged that his wife had assaulted him, per police. However, when police reviewed home footage, they found that to be a lie.

“Apparently, Mrs. Fairfax, at some point during these divorce proceedings, set up a lot of cameras inside the home. We reviewed those cameras, and we corroborated that the alleged assault never occurred,” Davis said.

Dr. Cerina Fairfax ran a family dentistry practice. She graduated from Duke University and the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry, which honored her in 2015 as its most outstanding alumna of the last decade.

“It’s very sad for this community,” Davis said. “A lot of people who know the Fairfax family, everybody’s shocked. We’re shocked.”

A former federal prosecutor and civil litigator, Fairfax first unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for attorney general in 2013. Then, he won the race for lieutenant governor in 2017.

Fairfax later tried to run for governor in 2021, some said to clear his name, but Virginia Democrats largely shunned him. Fairfax said he believed voters would see through what he described as a smear campaign against him. But he was defeated in the Democratic primary.

Court filings show that Fairfax had financial challenges following the sexual assault allegations. Those allegations prompted his resignation as a partner at a prestigious law firm. The IRS filed a lien against the couple for more than $91,000 in unpaid taxes, which was resolved in 2021.
