Steven Spielberg Fans Have Until March 31 To Watch His 35-Year-Old Fantasy Classic
Few studio fantasies inspire quite as much generational whiplash as Hook. For some viewers, it is one of Steven Spielberg’s most magical family movies. For others, it is a gloriously overstuffed curiosity that only gets weirder and more charming with age. Either way, it has become a real cult favorite over the years, and now Prime subscribers are down to their last days to revisit it.
Released in 1991, Hook imagines what happened after Peter Pan grew up. Robin Williams stars as Peter Banning, an adult who has forgotten his life in Neverland until Captain Hook returns and forces him to rediscover who he really is. The cast also includes, among others, Dustin Hoffman as Captain James Hook, Julia Roberts as Tinker Bell, Bob Hoskins as Smee, Maggie Smith as Granny Wendy, and Charlie Korsmo as Jack Banning.
Not just that, though, but you’ll also get to experience one of John Williams‘ most underrated scores. The music that swells when Peter remembers his true identity before embracing the persona of Pan once again and blasting into the Neverland sky is one of the most triumphant moments you’ll witness.
Lights, Camera, Retraction — The Collider Movie Quiz!
Sometimes actors quit; other times they’re fired. On this first day of spring, we’re recalling some famous roles that got a fresh start with a recast.
Is ‘Hook’ Worth Seeing?
The late critic Roger Ebert gave the film 2/4, noting that Hook takes a great idea — what if Peter Pan grew up? — and somehow turns it into something far less magical than it should be. Instead of feeling like a fresh or imaginative take on a beloved story, the film ends up feeling overly long, messy, and surprisingly uninspired. When his children are kidnapped by Captain Hook, Peter’s forced to return to Neverland and rediscover who he used to be. It’s a strong setup, and early on, the film hints at something special, but once the story reaches Neverland, things start to fall apart.
“The crucial failure in ‘Hook’ is its inability to re-imagine the material, to find something new, fresh or urgent to do with the Peter Pan myth. Lacking that, Spielberg should simply have remade the original story, straight, for this generation. The lack of creativity in the screenplay is dramatized in the sword fighting sequences between Hook and Peter, which are endless and not particularly well-choreographed. They do not convince me that either Williams or Hoffman is much of a fencer.”
Hook will leave Prime Video on March 31.

Hugh Jackman And Deborra-Lee Furness Struggle To Sell Home
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness‘s New York property is proving difficult to offload several months after they finalized their divorce, and reports claim it’s causing trouble again.
The movie star has since moved on with girlfriend Sutton Foster, and the pair are already looking to get married.
However, sources revealed that their wedding plans may have hit a snag as Hugh Jackman has become wary of the topic due to his kids, who have remained loyal to their mom.
Tensions Rise As Hugh Jackman And Deborra-Lee Furness Struggle To Sell Their New York Property

Jackman and his ex-wife, Furness, have yet to sell their sprawling New York City mansion several months after their marriage ended.
The former couple was married for 27 years until they announced in 2023 that they had decided to go their separate ways “to pursue our individual growth.”
At the center of their divorce proceeding was the division of their impressive real estate portfolio, which includes high-end luxury properties in New York and Australia.
However, reports suggest their New York apartment is still on the market as they’ve struggled to find a suitable buyer for it.
“Selling this place was supposed to be straightforward, but it’s turned into a nightmare because there’s so much money on the line and they’re having no luck unloading it,” a source told the National Enquirer. “They’ve already slashed the price, which took a huge amount of back and forth because they couldn’t agree on how much to go down.”
Meanwhile, reports suggest the former couple has cut their asking fee by $10 million in hopes of selling it off as soon as possible. Back in 2022, when it first hit the market, the asking price was set at $38.9 million, but according to the New York Post, the exes are now just looking for $29.9 million.
The Former Couple’s Property Troubles May Lead Them To Court: ‘Things Are Starting To Get Heated Again’

Jackman and Furness’s inability to secure a buyer for the property is reportedly causing issues between them and reopening old wounds.
“There’s a lot of finger-pointing over who pushed to buy it in the first place and who is responsible for the mess they’re in now,” the source shared. “When they finalized the divorce, it seemed like they were finally ready to move on from all the anger, but things are starting to get heated again.”
The insider also explained that the issue may soon lead them to have to resolve things through their lawyers.
“This isn’t something they can just ignore. There’s too much at stake financially, and if they can’t find a way to agree on what to do with the property next, it’s very likely going to end up being something they have to fight out through lawyers,” the source said. “It’s a huge mess, and every day that goes by without selling, they’re losing money.”
Hugh Jackman’s Wedding Plans To Sutton Foster Seemingly Suffer A Setback

Since their split, the “Wolverine” actor has moved on with girlfriend Sutton Foster, with reports suggesting that they’re ready to tie the knot soon. The pair have made several public appearances together, going on dates and holding hands while walking.
However, their wedding plans have seemingly suffered a setback as his kids, Oscar and Ava, are understood to only be in support of their mom.
“Even though Hugh is excited to start this next chapter with Sutton, he has to be sensitive to his kids,” a source told the Daily Mail. “They’re incredibly protective of their mother, and he wants to be respectful of that.”
“Hugh really wants his kids at the wedding,” the insider added. “They both want their loved ones with them to celebrate.”
The Couple Has A Preferred Period And Location For Their Nuptials

According to a New Idea, a source revealed that Jackman and Foster are leaning towards a date during spring or summer and would also love for their special day to be held in New York.
The lovebirds are also reportedly keeping the wedding small, with plans for a long honeymoon through Europe afterward.
“[Jackman] told his team to keep a big window open for him and Sutton to tie the knot and have a ‘honeymoon tour’ of Europe, where they can see his mum,” the source noted.
Sutton Foster’ Doesn’t Leave Anything To Chance’ Amid Hugh Jackman’s Cancer Scare

Back in March, reports suggested that Foster is so in love with Jackman and is doing the best she can to protect him.
A source claimed that she’s doing her best to keep things in check after the actor suffered several skin cancer scares.
“Sutton is all about prevention and getting Hugh to the doctor even when nothing is wrong,” the insider told the National Enquirer. “She’s driven by preparation, going back years in musical theater, and doesn’t leave anything to chance, including Hugh’s well-being.”
Several years ago, Jackman revealed that he’s had about six basal cell carcinomas removed, adding that even if there’s no immediate cause for concern, “it’s a cancer and it grows.”
“And if you don’t take it out, it’ll get into your bones, and then you’ve got to take the bone out,” he added at the time.

Britney Spears Reportedly Checks Into Rehab After DUI Arrest
Pop star Britney Spears has reportedly checked into rehab over a month after she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The “Oops!… I Did It Again” singer was pulled over near her home in Ventura, California, on March 4. She was released the following day, pending a court hearing in early May.
Britney Spears Reportedly Checks Into Rehab Voluntarily

On Sunday, April 12, sources told Us Weekly that the “Toxic” singer had voluntarily entered rehab weeks after she was seen laughing and dancing on a yacht with her two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.
Last month, an insider told the publication that the singer has been sober and has been attending AA meetings. It is not clear what prompted her sudden decision to enter rehab now.
According to a 911 audio call, the pop star’s car was seen speeding and driving “in and out of lanes.” The call operator also reported that the car was “erratic[ly] braking, swerving and driving with no tail light.”
She is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, May 4.
Britney Has Reportedly Been Struggling With ‘Bad Habits’ For Years

In late March, another source told Us Weekly that her friends and family were treating her sobriety as a “delicate” situation.
A second source claimed that “It wasn’t a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’ she would get arrested.” The insider claimed that she had been making a lot of “bad choices” since her divorce from actor Sam Asghari.
The two met on the set of her “Slumber Party” music video in 2016. He supported her through the end of her conservatorship in 2021, and they married the following year; however, he filed for divorce in 2023, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
Britney Spears Felt ‘Invincible’ Following The End Of Her Conservatorship

Another source claimed that she felt “invincible” ever since she was freed from her court-ordered conservatorship, which started in February 2008 and lasted about 13 years.
“She has this tendency to think she’s kind of invincible, especially since she’s been free from the conservatorship,” the source told the publication. “For a while, she felt like there were no real consequences, but lately, it’s started to catch up with her.”
One insider claimed that pills are her “real vice” and claimed that she has “been privately struggling with it for two to three years now.” They went on to state that she has “started falling back into old habits” since she stopped being drug tested following the end of her conservatorship.
Britney’s Former Lawyer Is Still Proud Of Her

After her court-appointed attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, resigned, the “Crossroads” actress retained Mathew Rosengart to see her through the end of her conservatorship. The former federal prosecutor had her estranged father, Jamie Spears, suspended as her conservator two months before a Los Angeles judge terminated the conservatorship.
He helped her obtain several lucrative deals, including the rights to her bestselling 2023 memoir, “The Woman In Me.” He stepped down from his role the following year, after Britney and Jamie settled their court case and officially ended her conservatorship.
Mathew Rosengart Praises Britney Spears As An ‘Icon’

In a brief statement made approximately two weeks after her arrest, Rosengart told Us Weekly that it was an “honor” to work with her and said that he was certain that Britney would “take the right steps” following her arrest.
“It was my great honor to work with and protect Britney as her litigator, and I will always be proud of her and the work we did together, ranging from helping, at her request and direction, to restore her freedom, civil rights and civil liberties after a 13-year conservatorship that stripped her of those rights, to many other matters,” he said.
“Britney is and always will be an icon,” he continued. “While I do not have the facts concerning March 4, with freedom comes responsibility, and I was pleased to see that Britney will take the right steps and comply with the law. I’ll always care greatly about her and help and support her in any way I can.”
Although she deactivated her Instagram page following her arrest, it is still live as of this writing, and her videos with her sons remain up.

Kristin Cavallari Gets Real About Dating Younger Men
Kristin Cavallari has no issues with age-gap relationships.
“I love this era for us!” Cavallari, 39, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Saturday, April 11, after being asked about the trend of younger men dating older women. “I think older women are just more confident in their skin. Not as many games and not afraid to ask for what they need/want.”
She continued, “I think, for women, it’s just really fun and traditionally a little ‘bad,’ which just makes it even more fun. I love seeing us breaking rules, ladies.”
Cavallari dated TikTok star Mark Estes for seven months in 2024 despite their 13-year age difference, which she later admitted contributed to their split.
“It’s hard because I broke up with Mark because I just know long-term it’s not right,” she said on an October 2024 episode of her “Let’s Be Honest” podcast. “It’s not because of love lost or something bad happened. No one cheated. No one was mean. No one did anything. Those breakups are always the hardest I think because it’s almost easier if the guy does something that makes you hate him.”
Cavallari added at the time, “Mark has been nothing but so sweet and so supportive. He’s always been there. He’s been the best boyfriend I’ve ever had. I just know long-term he needs to experience life.”
Cavallari was previously married to retired football star Jay Cutler, with whom she shares three kids, from 2013 to 2020. In the years since her divorce, Cavallari has been candid about her willingness to re-enter the dating pool.
“I’m not looking. For the last year or so, dating has not been a priority,” she exclusively told Us Weekly earlier this month. “Honestly, even if I met Mr. Right today, I don’t know how he would fit into my life at the moment.”

According to Cavallari, her life is “full right now” between raising her kids and her work commitments.
“I realistically have every other weekend … when my kids were at their dad’s house,” the Uncommon James founder said. “I had a whole weekend to myself. I could do whatever I wanted. I didn’t have to see anybody, and I loved that. I’m not ready to give that up. I really value alone time. That’s how I recharge my batteries.”
Cavallari also recently reunited with her high school friends on Roku’s Laguna Beach reunion special. Costar Talan Torriero, for his part, is hopeful that Cavallari will eventually find The One.
“She obviously has a very high standard, and she has a very long, long list for what she looks for in a guy,” Torreiro, 39, told Us in a separate interview earlier this month. “[But] she’s a catch, right? I mean, she’s successful. She’s beautiful. She’s got a great relationship with her kids. She’s just got it going on. I understand why her list is so long. She deserves to find that guy, and I know she will. It’s around the corner.”

Swap Your Dated Jean Jacket for a Mindy Kaling-Approved Style

Just when we thought we had a handle on the Great Jeans Debate (skinnies versus wide-leg pairs), another denim dilemma began flooding our feed. According to Gen Z, fashion influencers and stylists, jean jackets are out. Or at least the cropped, fitted versions millennials tend to rock every spring. Rather than ditching the versatile layer entirely, there is an updated alternative that has already been approved by Mindy Kaling. Relaxed, button-up shirt styles keep your transitional outfits from looking dated.
Although old habits die hard, the Emmiol Denim Oversized Long-Sleeve Button Down is easy enough to work into your spring wardrobe. The medium blue shade makes it just as versatile as your tried-and-true jean jacket, but the loose fit and structured collar give it an elevated, modern spin — sort of like the also-trendy chore coat. With its sleek, casual-cool design, this Amazon find closely resembles the style that Kaling wore on Ike Barinholtz’s podcast, “Funny You Ask.” But while the actress’ Blazé Milano denim shirt costs upwards of $400 (it’s $423 on sale), this one is just $37.
Get the Emmiol Denim Oversized Long-Sleeve Button Down for $37 (originally $59) on Amazon! Please note, prices are accurate at the date of publication but are subject to change.
The cotton-blend material means the denim button-down won’t leave you sweating on 70-degree days. It’s breathable, but still heavy enough to fight off that seasonal chill (or save you from shivering in the air conditioning come summertime). And, while you could easily pair this piece with a fit-and-flare or floral maxi, doing so might send a signal that you (like Us) are a woman of the 1900s (the cool kids are all wearing cardigans with dresses this year). A trendier look would be to style your denim button-down with tailored or linen trousers, Bermuda shorts or do as Kaling did and coordinate it with jeans of the same shade.
No matter how you choose to style this under-$4o pick, you won’t be disappointed by your purchase. This versatile number has garnered tons of rave reviews, with many praising its quality and versatility.
“This shirt feels very high quality, it’s structured and thick,” one five-star reviewer wrote. “It sits a little lower than the waist line so it’ll look good with dress pants and with jeans. I can’t wait to wear it all year long!!”
“LOVE,” said another happy shopper. “Fits so well. It’s the perfect in between of a regular fit and oversized, so I feel like it’s easy to pair with jeans or leggings! Great quality and I love the color! I also have unbuttoned it and worn it as a little jacket. It’s cute both ways!”
It’s also worth noting that this jacket style isn’t just ‘in’ — the breezy fit also makes it extra comfy, so you won’t have to worry about slipping on something stiff before heading out the door. Kaling clearly knows what’s up when it comes to spring-ready layers, and we’re ready to follow her lead. . . for a little less than that designer price tag.
Add the Emmiol Denim Oversized Long-Sleeve Button Down to your cart and freshen up your warm-weather ensembles. When the compliments start to roll in (from people your age as well as from too-cool teens), you can credit Us for the tip!

Us Weekly has affiliate partnerships. We receive compensation when you click on a link and make a purchase. Learn more!
We’re less than a month away from the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2, which means it’s time to overhaul your closet. In all seriousness, I’ve revisited the original movie so many times and realized that many of the fashions featured then are coming back in style — like cerulean blue, bubble dresses and more. I wish I had kept some of those early 2000s staples. That said, the modern versions are so much better. Refresh your wardrobe in preparation for the movie with our favorite early aughts fashions that are back in style. Miranda Priestly would take notice!
The Devil Wears Prada Fashion Trends Making a Comeback
Cerulean Blue
1. Our Favorite: It’s still up for debate whether Miranda Priestly approved of cerulean. To avoid her wrath, this chunky oversized sweater makes chill nights at home extra comfy.
2. Dress for Success: Want to look instantly elegant? Grab these wide-leg pants in cerulean blue and you’ll own every room you walk into.
3. Beach-Ready: Cerulean blue is a divine choice for vacations, especially when it comes to swimwear. This sporty-chic one-piece might become your favorite suit of all time.
4. Miranda-Approved: If Miranda Priestly wore cerulean blue, it would 100% be this silk button-down blouse that’s equal parts professional and fun.
Florals for Spring…(Groundbreaking)
5. Our Favorite: You don’t need to be completely swathed in blossoms to participate in the florals trend. The dainty embroidered flowers on these Abercrombie jeans add a little spring flair to your average denim.
6. Prettiest Blouse: This dainty floral blouse is so flattering — and joy-inducing — you’ll want to wear it year-round (and you should!).
7. Evening Blooms: Florals take on a sophisticated aura in this high-neck silk slip dress that looks and feels totally timeless.
8. Peek-a-Boo: Little floral accents can complete your springtime outfit. If you aren’t a fan of floral prints, opt for these beautiful blooming earrings.
Bubble Dresses
9. Our Favorite: The girly bubble dress trend is made modern with this color-block drop waist design. Pair it with kitten heels for a night out on the town — or to go see The Devil Wears Prada 2.
10. Tres Chic: Between the full skirt, large polka-dot pattern and rose neckline, a lot is going on with this mini dress, but it all blends seamlessly together. Total Andy vibes!
11. Street Style Goddess: The bubble dress silhouette takes on a casual energy with this denim style. While the bottom maintains its flouncy silhouette, the structured shoulders and statement zipper make this a wearable work of art.
12. Easy Breezy: When you’re running late, you’ll be glad you have this strapless bubble dress you can slip into in seconds. It’s a foolproof outfit!
Bootcut Jeans
13. Our Favorite: I have a feeling Andy Sachs’ favorite jean style hasn’t changed much in 20 years. A quality bootcut style can last in your closet for decades!
14. Forever Classic: Levi’s jeans never go out of style, especially this high-rise bootcut silhouette.
15. Deep Dark: Indigo washes tend to be the most slimming. This elevated pair from Quince has a bit of stretch, so you’ll stay comfy from morning to night.
16. A Total Steal: A reliable pair of jeans for $35? Sign Us up! We’re buying multiple washes while the price is that low.

Keanu Reeves’ New 83-Minute Thriller Is Apple TV’s Latest Streaming Hit
From director Paul Greengrass‘ pulse-racing The Lost Bus, starring Hollywood icon Matthew McConaughey and Barbie‘s America Ferrera, to Joseph Kosinski‘s fast-paced sports drama F1, Apple TV has a great recent history of delivering critically acclaimed movies. In fact, the two mentioned were Academy Award nominees at this year’s 98th ceremony, with F1 earning a nod for the coveted Best Picture prize, and even walking out victorious in the Best Sound category.
Sadly, the streamer’s latest feature-length project has failed to have the same impact as the aforementioned duo. The film in question is Outcome, the latest directorial effort from Jonah Hill, which stars the ever-brilliant Keanu Reeves as Reef Hawk, the world’s biggest movie star who takes a hiatus from the industry after struggling with heroin addiction. Ready to make a comeback, Reef’s chances of redemption are hurt when a reputation-destroying video surfaces. Sadly, the initial response from critics to Outcome has been disappointing.
Dubbed “streaming filler” by one critic, with another saying, “Jonah Hill’s new movie rarely has anything of value to say,” Outcome has earned a terrible 25% score, from 24 reviews at the time of writing, on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, which marks Reeves’ lowest score for a film since 2018’s Replica. Writing for Collider, Nate Richard scored the film just 4/10 in his review, writing, “It moves at too quick a pace to leave much of an impact, and it’s a bit of a tonal nightmare. Hill has already proven himself as a director, but Outcome was a strange yet bold choice to make as his second narrative film.” Despite this, the film is at least proving an instant hit on Apple TV, as it has risen past the likes of F1 and the Elizabeth Olsen-led fantasy rom-com Eternity to take the top spot on the U.S. streaming charts.
Who Else Stars in ‘Outcome’?
As Hill’s second narrative feature as a director, following the release of the skateboarding dramedy mid90s in 2018, Outcome was written by the Wolf of Wall Street star alongside Ezra Woods, with producer credits going the way of Hill, Matt Dines, and Alison Goodwin. The rest of the cast includes Matt Bomer, Cameron Diaz, Susan Lucci, Laverne Cox, David Spade, Atsuko Okatsuka, Roy Wood, Jr., Welker White, Kaia Gerber, Ivy Wolk, and even Hollywood icon Martin Scorsese as a washed-up talent agent.
Outcome is streaming on Apple TV. Stay tuned for more streaming stories.

Sydney Sweeney Box Office Flop Is HBO’s Number One New Movie
By Jonathan Klotz
| Published

Sydney Sweeney had a rough 2025 at the box office, culminating in the launch of a new franchise following the success of The Housemaid. Her earlier flop, Christy, a biopic about the life of American boxer Christy Martin, was a complete bomb in theaters.
Now that it’s on HBO Max, Sweeney’s home turf thanks to Euphoria, it debuted as the number one movie on the streamer, finally finding success away from the big screen. It’s also continuing the trend for Sweeney of two steps backwards for every one step forward her career takes.
Sydney Sweeney Comes Out Swinging

Christy seems like an odd choice for Sydney Sweeney. It’s about the boxing champion, who fought in the first female boxing main event on pay-per-view, the first female boxer on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and easily the most popular female boxer of the 90s. Her rise was sudden, thanks in part to legendary promoter Don King (The Walking Dead’s Chad Coleman), and the support of her husband, James (Ben Foster, who was born to play creeps like James Martin). It’s the latter that led to the downfall of her career and nearly cost her life.
The meat of Christy’s story isn’t the boxing career; it’s the abusive, codependent relationship with James, which is especially difficult as Christy’s a lesbian. Closeted to start with, but that doesn’t stop James from going to extreme lengths to retain his control over her. Drugs, sex, blackmail videos, you name it, James does it, right down to attempted murder. It’s an awkward mashup of underdog sports movie and terrifying domestic abuse that doesn’t quite work, but it’s not Sweeney’s fault.
Christy Is A Tough Story For Hollywood

Christy Martin goes against Sweeney’s public image as a blonde bombshell with great jeans. It’s the same as her earlier film, Reality, about Reality Winner’s interrogation by the FBI for her role as a national security whistleblower. These are not glamorous roles, and Sweeney does her best to bring them to life, but in the case of Christy, she’s undercut by a confused script, and going up against the underrated acting powerhouse that is Ben Foster is a task for any performer.
No one was surprised when Christy bombed at the box office with a haul of only $2 million. Fresh off the “great jeans” scandal, the film became a lightning rod for a culture war, with one side boycotting and the other showing no interest in a film about a lesbian boxer. It was a no-win situation, which, at the end of the day, with the film’s arrival on streaming, ultimately meant nothing. Anyone can now stream it no matter their personal feelings on the actress, in the privacy of their own home, and without paying movie theater prices, which means a lot of Sweeney fans are now checking it out, and a lot of her detractors are now hate-watching.

At the end of the day, it’s a lot of online discourse over a film that’s ultimately, decent. Christy isn’t the best boxing movie, it’s not the best movie about domestic violence, but it is a close examination of the fascinating life of Christy Martin, who today, is living her best life as an out lesbian with her partner, and given the hell she endured to get there, you can’t help but cheer for her. As for Sydney Sweeney, Euphoria Season 3 is about to debut, so you might want to stay off social media for a few days.
Christy is now streaming on HBO Max.

Why Theo James Thinks Having a Son Is ‘Terrifying’
Theo James had certain fears about becoming a boy dad.
“Capitalism is the dominant force and if you are celebrated, no matter what you are, if you are stinking rich and driving around in flash cars [that] has been epitomized by Trumpism and everything that goes with that,” James, 41, said on the Wednesday, April 8, episode of Josh Smith’s Great Chat Show, referencing the cultural influence of President Donald Trump. “It’s terrifying having a son because people get lured into this idea very easily.”
He continued, “You don’t have to be ‘hyperwoke,’ but it’s about a base level of empathy and some semblance of morality. I think now that isn’t cool. It’s not cool to talk about those things. It’s cool to be like, ‘F*** you, I earn loads of cash.’ But, at the end of the day, there’s a deep emptinessiness within that as we all know and eventually all those people will find out.”
James and his wife, Ruth Kearney, welcomed their son in late 2023. (The couple also share a daughter, who was born in 2021.)
“We have a 4-month-old. We’re in the thick of it,” James said at the Emmy Awards in January 2024, confirming that Kearney, 41, gave birth months earlier. “We have a daughter and then a 4-month-old son.”
James and Kearney, who have been married since 2018, have not publicly revealed their children’s names and maintain a private family life. As they remain out of the public eye, James is hopeful to raise his son without the influence of toxic masculinity.
“I [also] try and have conversations with my friends and be open about mental health and if you’re struggling with things,” James said on Wednesday’s episode. “I think it’s super important because mental health affects a lot of men.”
The White Lotus alum further believes that toxic masculinity “comes down to a fact of an unclear identity.”
“They feel untethered, reduced. I think the misogyny comes from lots of successful, strong women around them. They don’t know how to deal with that,” he speculated. “They’re confused by who they are or who they should be, and the easiest thing to do is to latch on to something [whether it’s] money, going to the gym a lot of telling people to ‘go f*** themselves.’ That’s easy.”
A man’s identity can also affect body image, which James believed is “a problem.”
“It constantly evolves and changes when we talk about men, obviously, women have dealt with it for thousands of years and they continue to do so,” James acknowledged. “With men, I think the idea of, and again it goes into this kind of toxic masculinity thing about identity and forming identity through your body [where] you have to be bigger and more muscular, more swole.”
