The 10 Most Suspenseful Movies of All Time, Ranked

Published

on

Robert Graysmith (Jake Gyllenhaal) hunchesover his desk while Paul Avery (Robert Downey Jr.) loiters casually behind him in 'Zodiac' (2007).

Suspense maybe shouldn’t be bearable, but sometimes, the milder thrillers out there kind of are. You can also talk about suspense in movies that aren’t necessarily thrillers, or that aren’t entirely thrillers. Comedies can be suspenseful and even anxiety-inducing (see Shiva Baby and After Hours), and if a funny movie can also be tense and unnerving, then any movie of any kind can be, really.

Returning to the idea of suspense being bearable or unbearable, the following titles lean toward the latter. They’re thrillers (alongside some crime, drama, and horror films) that go particularly hard on being intense. Your mileage may vary somewhat, so if you don’t find these unbearable, then good for you. But there’s a good chance that at least some people will find some films below quite hard to get through, especially if you’re not well-prepared for a disquieting sit.

With his first few movies, released in the 1990s, David Fincher proved he could make some pretty damn suspenseful stuff, but it’s probably 2007’s Zodiac that ends up being his most consistently unsettling. It has the dread you’d expect out of a movie covering the ultimately fruitless search for a notorious serial killer, and finds ways to keep being unsettling even after all the leads seem to dry up.

Zodiac pivots to being about obsession in its second half, and while the paranoia there might not be as in-your-face, there are certainly sequences found closer to the end that feel even more harrowing than the comparatively grislier first half. It’s all very well-controlled and paced throughout, keeping things engrossing even in the quieter moments, and all-around being a much better experience than reading the book it was based on.

‘The Wages of Fear’ (1953)

A wounded man leaning on another one in The Wages of Fear Image via Cinédis

The Wages of Fear was remade as Sorcerer, and that film’s also very suspenseful for sure, but the original might be more of a nail-biter. It’s also easier to appreciate the original for holding up remarkably well, since it’s about a quarter of a century older, feeling timelessly intense as a movie about men on a desperate mission through dangerous territory where any false move could result in their fiery deaths.

It might all sound a bit too simple to work as well as it does, and the 153-minute runtime might also be questionable, or even something of a deterrent, but in execution, The Wages of Fear nails things. It’s also a movie that proved influential on the films of Christopher Nolan, and he’s generally good at crafting suspenseful works, so that’s another reason this one is very much worth checking out, even if you’re not usually the fondest of movies that are many decades old.

‘Parasite’ (2019)

Just a perfect movie all around, Parasite has been praised to death at this point. Like, every part of Parasite has been praised to death, truth be told. It’s a very good social dramedy that feels agonizingly relevant and of the times, all the while also being a genuinely exciting thriller. And it lurches into some more genres throughout, but mostly sticks to being a comedy/drama/thriller kind of thing.

The less said about the plot, the better, because all you really need to know is that it’s about two families (one poor, one very well-off), and a strange dynamic/conflict that plays out between the two. The bleak parts make the humorous parts funnier, and then the funny parts contrast with the bleak parts to make them feel all the heavier. It’s a chaotic blend of genres and tone, but ultimately functions incredibly well.

‘No Country for Old Men’ (2007)

Javier Bardem standing firmly in No Country for Old Men Image via Miramax Films

Capturing the harrowing and nightmarish quality of Cormac McCarthy’s writing very effectively, No Country for Old Men is a neo-Western, a thriller, and a very dark crime movie all at once. It’s about a man finding some money at the site of a drug deal that turned deadly, and when he takes it, he ends up making himself the target of a relentless assassin who’s trying to track down the immense quantity of cash.

If it’s not the best Coen brothers movie, then it might well be the best-directed Coen brothers movie, which is saying quite a bit. No Country for Old Men has an inherently intense premise that’s made a whole lot more grim because of the approach taken, not to mention the strength of the acting on offer (Javier Bardem did indeed deserve the huge amount of praise heaped upon him for his performance here).

6

‘Psycho’ (1960)

Marion Crane driving and looking pensive in Psycho.

Psycho might well be the definitive psychological horror/thriller movie made before, say, 1970. What it did for its time was undeniably bold and subversive, to such a famous extent that the biggest surprise Psycho has in store will likely be known ahead of time, should you choose to watch Psycho for the first time decades after it first came out.

That’s not a fault of the movie or anything, and more a testament to how iconic it was as a shock-heavy film. Psycho throws certain storytelling rules out the window before the halfway mark, and though the film was quietly tense before that point, it’s more relentlessly suspenseful afterward. You get the feeling that anything could happen, and the sense of a movie feeling genuinely dangerous while being this old is truly impressive.

The Academy Has Decided
Your Perfect Film Is…

Your answers have pointed to one Oscar Best Picture winner above all others. This is the film that was made for the way your mind works.

Parasite

You are drawn to films that operate on multiple levels simultaneously — that begin in one genre and quietly, brilliantly migrate into another. Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite is a film about class, desire, and the architecture of inequality that manages to be darkly funny, deeply suspenseful, and genuinely shocking across a single extraordinary running time. Your instinct is for cinema that hides its true intentions until the moment it’s ready to reveal them. Parasite is exactly that — a film that rewards close attention and punishes assumptions, right up to its devastating final image.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

You want it all — and this film gives you all of it. The Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of the most maximalist films ever made: action comedy, multiverse sci-fi, family drama, existential crisis, and a genuinely earned emotional core that sneaks up on you amid the chaos. You are someone who responds to ambition, who doesn’t want cinema to choose between being entertaining and being meaningful. This film refuses that choice entirely. It is overwhelming by design, and its overwhelming nature is precisely the point — because the feeling of being crushed by infinite possibility is exactly what it’s about.

Oppenheimer

You are drawn to cinema on a grand scale — films that understand history not as a backdrop but as a force, and that place their characters inside that force and watch what happens. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is a film about the terrifying gap between what we can do and what we should do, told with the full weight of one of the most consequential moments in human history behind it. You want your films to feel important without feeling self-important — to earn their ambition through sheer craft and the gravity of their subject. Oppenheimer does exactly that. It is enormous, complicated, and refuses easy comfort.

Birdman

You are drawn to films that foreground their own construction — that make the how of the filmmaking part of the what it’s about. Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, shot to appear as a single continuous take, is cinema examining itself through the cracked mirror of a fading actor’s ego. You respond to formal daring, to the feeling that a film is doing something that probably shouldn’t be possible. Michael Keaton’s performance and Emmanuel Lubezki’s restless camera create something genuinely unlike anything else — a film that is simultaneously about creativity, relevance, self-destruction, and the impossibility of ever truly knowing if your work means anything at all.

No Country for Old Men

You are drawn to cinema that trusts silence, that refuses to explain itself, and that treats dread as a form of meaning. The Coen Brothers’ No Country for Old Men is a film about the arrival of a new kind of evil — implacable, arbitrary, and utterly indifferent to the moral frameworks we use to make sense of the world. It is one of the most formally controlled films ever made, and its controlled restraint is what makes it so terrifying. You want your films to haunt you, not comfort you. You are not interested in resolution if resolution would be dishonest. No Country for Old Men is honest in a way that most cinema never dares to be.

‘Misery’ (1990)

Based on a pretty much perfect Stephen King novel that the author himself considers one of his best, Misery centers on an author who finds himself in just about the most nightmarish situation possible for someone in his profession. He’s seemingly rescued from a car accident, but finds he’s actually been kidnapped by an obsessive fan who doesn’t take kindly to the discovery that her favorite book series of his has recently ended.

She forces him to continue it, and he has to keep writing something he now hates, or otherwise risk incredible physical pain and, eventually, probable death. Misery is all confined, suspenseful, and honestly quite fun/engaging, which might mitigate some of the horror. Yet that horror is nonetheless visceral, and you do feel the desperation of the whole situation and fight for survival in a very intense way, so the immense suspense factor here can’t be denied.

4

‘The Departed’ (2006)

Leonardo DiCaprio about to throw a punch at Matt Damon who has his hands raised in The Departed.

The Departed tells the same basic story as Infernal Affairs, with a criminal infiltrating the police force and a police officer going undercover in the criminal world. Both realize that someone else might be an opposing mole, and so there’s a whole cat-and-mouse game that involves one finding the other before said other can expose them. With The Departed, that whole premise is stretched out to about 2.5 hours.

And it really does keep things going — and always intense — for that entire runtime, which is one of the longest Martin Scorsese movies that isn’t a full-on epic. It’s sort of another Scorsese gangster movie, but with more of an emphasis on being a thriller, and The Departed does thrill indeed. It’s the kind of thing that’s also riveting if you’re rewatching it, or know what happens ahead of time, with that being a sign of a suspense-heavy movie going above and beyond, and truly delivering.

3

‘Whiplash’ (2014)

Miles Teller as Andrew as looking intensely at JK Simmons as Terence who's out of focus
Miles Teller as Andrew and J.K. Simmons as Terence co-star in Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash.
Image via Sony Pictures Classics
Advertisement

The second film Damien Chazelle directed, and probably his best one overall too, Whiplash is also the most intense exploration of pursuing art and greatness at the cost of everything else Chazelle’s done to date. It’s mostly just one young man doing a bunch of increasingly risky things because he wants to be a legendary drummer one day, and there’s a tyrannical instructor who’s just as willing to push his most desperate (and potentially vulnerable) students.

Drumming has never been so intense, and it probably won’t be ever again to quite this extent. Maybe that’s okay, though. Maybe the world only needs one music-related film that’s this damn gruelling. It’s about as perfect as psychological dramas get, too, being so introspective and effectively nauseating that it puts a good many psychological thrillers to shame, too (even though it’s not technically a thriller).

2

‘Inglourious Basterds’ (2009)

Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine in a suit in the woods in 'Inglourious Basterds'
Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine at the end of ‘Inglourious Basterds’
Image via The Weinstein Company
Advertisement

Kind of an epic movie set during World War II, but not really in the expected way, Inglourious Basterds has a lot of moving pieces and a pretty large cast, too. It takes place in Nazi-occupied France, and many of the characters are people who are either resisting Nazi violence or taking the fight to the Nazis themselves, and the fact that they’re all outgunned and/or underdogs makes so much of the movie all the more intense.

Also, Inglourious Basterds plays around with history and has fictional characters colliding with some real-life historical figures, and the way things are rewritten keeps the suspense high, since you can’t rely on knowledge of actual history to know what’s going to go down. It’s also home to some of the most suspense-filled sequences of the 21st century so far, including the opening scene, the one in the tavern, and then much of the finale inside a cinema.

‘Uncut Gems’ (2019)

Essentially, Uncut Gems is a movie about a man digging himself into a deeper hole for a bit over two hours. He’s played by Adam Sandler, and he just doesn’t know when or how to quit hustling, betting money on increasingly risky things in pursuit of a big score. And that involves borrowing more and more money from people, some of whom react very poorly to it all, and everything just worsens to an almost comical degree.

If it’s comedic, though, then it’s certainly dark comedy, and dark in a way that some people just might not find all that funny. But either way, Uncut Gems will put you on edge for pretty much its entire runtime, which is a Safdie specialty (see also Good Time, and the more recent Marty Supreme, which was directed by Josh, but not Benny Safdie).

Yolanda Hadid Finds Love Again After Recent Heartbreak

Published

Just months after the end of a long-term engagement, Yolanda Hadid is preparing to walk down the aisle again.

The former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star has reportedly accepted a surprise proposal from businessman Randy Kendrick, marking a dramatic new chapter in her love life.

For fans who watched her previous relationships unfold in the public eye, the news comes as a shock, especially given how quietly this latest romance developed behind the scenes.

Yolanda Hadid is reportedly engaged to real estate developer Randy Kendrick, less than two years after the end of her previous relationship.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Kendrick popped the question earlier this week, and Yolanda happily accepted.

The engagement marks a significant milestone for the former model and reality television star, whose romantic life has often attracted public attention. This will be her third marriage if the couple ultimately makes it down the aisle.

The timing has surprised many fans because Yolanda only recently ended her engagement to longtime boyfriend Joseph Jingoli.

Inside Yolanda And Jingoli’s Romance And Split

Yolanda Hadid and Joseph Jingoli quietly ended their engagement after more than six years together, bringing an end to one of the former reality star’s most private relationships.

News of the split surfaced in June 2025, though sources revealed the couple had actually gone their separate ways months earlier, in January.

According to a report from The Blast, the breakup was amicable, with the pair choosing to remain friends despite ending their engagement. “They remain friends and have nothing but fond memories of their time together,” a source revealed.

Yolanda and Jingoli first met in 2017 after she relocated to Pennsylvania following her divorce from music producer David Foster.

Their romance blossomed away from the spotlight, leading to a secret engagement in 2022 during a trip to Holland.

The engagement remained private until 2024 when Yolanda casually referred to Jingoli as her fiancé. Despite their split, sources said there was no bad blood between them as both moved forward separately.

Yolanda Hadid Keeps Romance With Randy Kendrick Under Wraps

Yolanda appears ready to begin an entirely new chapter. Unlike many celebrity relationships, her romance with Kendrick has largely stayed out of the spotlight.

While details about their relationship remain scarce, sources say the couple has quietly built a strong connection away from public scrutiny.

Kendrick is best known as the founder and CEO of Xebec, a company that describes itself as “a national logistics real estate platform.”

His business portfolio extends beyond logistics. In 2021, he also became CEO of Sandow Lakes Ranch Venture, LLC, a massive Texas-based development spanning 33,000 acres.

The project includes plans for manufacturing and logistics facilities and boasts extensive water rights holdings throughout the state.

Despite his business success, Kendrick has largely avoided the celebrity spotlight, making his relationship with Hadid even more intriguing.

Yolanda’s Future Husband Has A Passion Beyond Real Estate

While Randy Kendrick has built a career in real estate development, business is only part of his story.

In an interview with D Magazine last year, he revealed that he had known he wanted to become a developer since high school.

Away from work, however, music remains one of his greatest passions. Kendrick shared that he enjoys collecting “vintage guitars” and spending his free time “cooking for my family and playing guitar.”

His love of music stretches back decades. “If you saw the Elvis movie, when he played his first concert at the International Hotel, six-year-old Randy Kendrick was in the front row next to Elvis’s mom and Priscilla Presley at that concert,” he recalled.

This latest engagement adds another chapter to a romantic history that has included two previous marriages.

Yolanda first married real estate developer Mohamed Hadid in 1994. Together, they welcomed three children,  Gigi, Bella, and Anwar Hadid, before divorcing in 2000.

Her children would later become some of the most recognizable names in fashion and entertainment.

Years later, Yolanda found love again with music producer David Foster. The pair married in 2011, becoming one of Hollywood’s most talked-about couples at the time. However, the marriage ended in 2015, with their divorce finalized two years later.

Since then, she has navigated public breakups, health struggles, and major life transitions while continuing to reinvent herself.

Muni Long Revealed She Underwent A Double Lung Transplant

According to PEOPLE, Muni Long appeared on ‘Good Morning America’ earlier this week. During her appearance, she reflected on joining Monica and Brandy’s ‘The Boy Is Mine’ tour last year and running into health concerns.

“I should have never taken that tour. But there was so much going on in my life where I had to do it,” she said.

Long, who was diagnosed with lupus in 2014, revealed that she fell ill while on the tour and was diagnosed with pneumonia. For Thanksgiving, she went home, and then woke up to herself in the hospital. There, doctors reportedly told her that she needed a double lung transplant.

“I knew for a really long time that something was wrong. Every day I’m, like, spitting in cups and coughing all the time. Trying to take all these medicines to get through the day,” she recalled.

Then, doctors told her that she only had a week to live.

“My jaw dropped. Literally. I was like, ‘That’s rude.’ But they were kind of like, ‘This is not a joke. You need to make a choice. You can either go to hospice, or you can get these lungs,’” she added.

Ultimately, Long underwent the procedure and is now feeling “fabulous.”

“Tomorrow is my last appointment for all the things. No symptoms. Asymptomatic. No infections. None of that. Then I have my vocal checkup, six months will be in August because I had to have vocal surgery, as well… My voice now is totally different. It’s actually better, should I say? But I don’t know that I can perform yet. They gave me six months to a year,” she said.

Here’s What Happened Before Muni Long Revealed She Underwent A Double Lung Transplant

As The Shade Room previously reported, Muni Long made headlines when she abruptly exited ‘The Boy Is Mine’ tour in November 2025. At the time, she had missed a few tour stops and ultimately took to social media to tell fans, “… Despite doing everything I can to push through, my doctors have made it clear that it’s not safe for me to continue with the remaining dates of the tour. I’ll truly miss seeing you all out there, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity. Thank you to Brandy and Monica for having me and sharing the stage with me. I can’t wait to see you all again. Stronger than ever”

Rapper Mystikal Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison After Pleading Guilty in Rape Case

Band of Brothers actor Iain Robertson has been found guilty of rape following a trial in Scotland.

Robertson, 45, was convicted Tuesday, June 23, on five offenses, including rape and domestic abuse, against three women between 2004 and 2019, reported the BBC.

The Scottish actor appeared in HBO’s acclaimed Band of Brothers and is best known for playing Stevie O’Hara in the BBC soap opera River City.

A jury at the High Court in Glasgow heard how Robertson allegedly raped a woman whom he met on the set of River City sometime between 2018 and 2019.

Rapper Mystikal has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to rape. Local ABC affiliate WBRZ reported that Mystikal (real name Michael Tyler) appeared in court on Tuesday, June 16, to receive his sentencing. The rapper, 55, was accused of raping a woman in his Prairieville, Louisiana, home back in 2022, to […]

The woman testified that she did not want a romantic relationship with the actor but that they did become intimate at one point. She later told Robertson that she wanted to return to a platonic relationship, per the BBC.

“It was a long back and forth. Iain was convinced I was in denial about having feelings for him and in denial about what I wanted,” she said. “I do not think he believed me.”

The woman added that she felt her “boundaries were being ignored.”

She said she was sexually assaulted after staying at Robertson’s home in Glasgow. The woman claimed she planned to sleep on the sofa, but that the actor said she could join him in his bed and “nothing would happen.”

The woman said that Robertson then “had sex” with her. “I was lying down, I was very limp and he went on top of me,” she described the incident, which she said was nonconsensual.

Another woman testified that the actor “lunged” at her during an argument in 2014, reported the BBC. She said, “I thought he was going to hit me.”

Robertson was convicted of assault in connection with the second woman but cleared a second charge.

The woman, who is also an actor, said Robertson called her and left voicemails in an “obsessive” manner and sent snack boxes to theaters at which she was performing.

Giving evidence earlier in the trial, Robertson said he was “no angel” but denied all of the charges against him.

“I am aware to know if the person is not as present as I am in what we are doing,” he said of the rape allegation. “I am sensitive enough to be aware there are non-verbal ways to communicate.”

“It would be something I would not participate in at all,” he added.

Robertson is due to be sentenced on July 23.

As someone who likes to revamp her wardrobe every season, my clothes are looking more European these days — almost as if my closet went and got itself a passport. Indeed, I’m all about European-style summer sets that look expensive, are easy to style and look luxe in that quintessential European way, quietly elevated without trying too hard. Thankfully, there’s no better place to tap into that classic European polish than Amazon, which is overflowing with rich‑girl sets practically begging to go international.

From matching gingham combos to Parisian‑style vests, denim duos and even chic skirt sets, I’ve found 13 European‑inspired pairings that have completely elevated my summer style. If you, too, are craving stylish summer sets that look straight out of a European getaway, the pieces below are absolutely worth adding to your cart.

13 European Summer Outfits That Look Expensive

1. My Favorite: With a luxe, loosely tailored fit, this striped button‑down set delivers a regal, resort‑ready aesthetic. Choose understated shades like khaki or white for a quiet‑luxury feel, or make a statement in hot pink or ocean blue.

2. Luxe for Less: Almost 1,000 customers (including me!) have snagged this V‑neck vest shorts set in the past month. It’s giving absolute Parisian chic — clean, confident and just the right amount of polished.

3. Tummy Slimming: Designed with an A‑line silhouette that disguises the midsection, this slimming tank and shorts set has become a fast favorite of mine. I, along with countless other reviewers, love how lightweight and versatile it is — great for vacation or even weekend plans.

4. Southern Centric: Gingham matching sets are a failsafe way to rock rich-girl style on a budget. With a slightly cropped top and high‑waist pants, this colorful duo brings that expensive energy to your closet — even though the price is anything but.

5. Denim Demure: It’s no surprise that denim is just as in style in the U.S. as it is in Europe, which makes this denim matching set a travel essential. Pair the button‑up top and high‑waist shorts with a classic white sneaker and a structured tote for a very Parisian look.

Thinning hair is a natural part of life, but if your ponytail’s been feeling a bit lighter than usual recently, switching up your hair routine may help. One product that’s been praised for its volume-boosting properties is Medicube Rosemary PDRN Clarifying Thickening Shampoo. Yes, the formula cleanses the scalp like a traditional shampoo, but it also helps hair appear thicker, stronger and more voluminous, all while maximizing the effectiveness of your haircare routine.

The shampoo contains rosemary, which helps create an optimal environment for healthy-looking hair growth, plus PDRN, an ingredient known for its restorative properties. Together, these ingredients help nourish the scalp while supporting the appearance of stronger, more resilient strands. Since healthy hair starts at the scalp, using a formula like Medicube Rosemary Shampoo can make a noticeable difference in how the hair looks and feels over time.

Beyond its scalp-first ingredients, this shampoo is formulated to create the appearance of thicker hair immediately by removing excess oil, product buildup and impurities that typically weigh strands down. This allows hair to feel lighter and appear more lifted at the roots, resulting in hair that’s fuller, bouncier and more voluminous without feeling coated or heavy.

For those with thinning hair, that added body can make a significant difference in styling as well. By giving hair a cleaner foundation and enhancing root lift, this shampoo helps create the illusion of greater density, making ponytails, blowouts and everyday styles appear fuller.

One Amazon shopper with fine hair said that it not only made hair feel “clean, light and noticeably more bouncy,” but that it “boosts volume and freshness without sacrificing moisture.”

Leslie Jones Details ‘Frustrating’ ‘SNL’ Experience

Published

Leslie Jones

Comedian and actress Leslie Jones joined NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” in 2014 before leaving five years later in 2019. Now, years after her exit, the “Ghostbusters” star is reflecting on her experience with the show, revealing that she found the sketches she appeared in to be frustratingly stereotypical.

Her latest comments come after the 58-year-old said the long-running series turned her into a caricature.

Jones appeared on “The Sam Sanders Show” in June 2026. While on the show, the topic of her five-year run on “Saturday Night Live” arose, with her calling the experience “bittersweet,” stating that she felt typecast by the show’s writers, while also understanding that one of the hallmarks of the show is that they “make you a character of yourself.”

According to her, “It was kind of frustrating that they would always make me the girl that was angry and beating up people or in love with a white boy. They just always would make me angry or I’m fighting somebody.”

Regarding why she agreed to take part in the skits, she found problematic, Jones said, “I wanted to be on the show. And at the time, I didn’t think that [typecasting] was what was happening till it kept happening. And then, like, every time I would get a sketch, I was like, ‘Okay, who am I beating up this week?’”

The “SNL” alum continued to recall her time on the show, admitting that being typecast by the writers hasn’t fully tainted her experience. She revealed, “I loved being there. It was great, it was fun, but I don’t miss the mental part of it.”

Later in the interview, the host asked Jones if, based on her experience, she felt “Saturday Night Live” was “a good place” for black comedians. She responded, “I think that it is the machine that it is.”

‘SNL’ Fans Are Reacting To What Jones Said About The Show

Following Jones’ comments on “The Sam Sanders Show,” fans are reacting on social media. For the most part, they understand her feelings, but many think that her comedy outside of “Saturday Night Live” is similar to what she delivered on the series.

One person said, “…have you seen her standup? She writes herself like that.” Someone else wrote, “What a narcissist. Chris Farley was always the fat, dim-witted guy, and he never openly complained.”

A different “SNL” fan stated, “Then how about do what every other successful person on SNL did. Write your own stuff and pitch it.”

In support of the “Ghostbusters” actress, one social media user said, “Leslie Jones is my favorite and so wonderful in any Avenue acting comes to her. Even rocked the hell out of revived TV show Supermarket Sweep. Wish there were more seasons. So fun. Love her!”

After that, someone recalled one of her skits, saying, “It was hilarious when she kept calling Peter Dinklage his ‘Game of Thrones’ name, Tyrion, in the ‘Naked & Afraid’ sketch. But she’s one of those ‘a little goes a long way’ chicks.”

Jones interviewed with NPR in 2023. When asked about her time on “Saturday Night Live,” she expressed sentiments similar to her most recent comments. According to her, “I’ve been doing comedy so long, it’s like, I know what I am.”

She continued, “At ‘SNL,’ they take that one thing, and they wring it. They wring it because that’s the machine. So whatever it is that I’m giving that they’re so happy about, they feel like it’s got to be that all the time, or something like that.”

After that, she went into more detail about her time on the show, saying, “So it was, like, a caricature of myself, you know what I’m saying? So it was like, now either I’m trying to love on the white boys or beat up on the white boys, or I’m doing something just, like, loud. I knew once I did these things, though—I knew it was going to happen, because I know the power of them.”

Still, she acknowledged that this was the nature of the show and wasn’t unique to her. During the interview, she used former “SNL” cast member Taran Killam as an example, noting, “Taran wanted to do so much other stuff, but they would only have Taran in those very masculine [roles] and singing and stuff.”

The series will feature the Emmy-nominated comedian “roasting” short-term rentals.

Ghostbusters: Night Shift Reveals First Look as Netflix Brings the Franchise Back to the ’90s : Coastal House Media

Ghostbusters: Night Shift Reveals First Look as Netflix Brings the Franchise Back to the '90s : Coastal House Media

Who ya gonna call? Apparently, a brand-new team of Ghostbusters.

Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation have officially unveiled the first details for Ghostbusters: Night Shift, an all-new animated series set within the beloved supernatural franchise. Alongside the announcement came the first concept art, a logo reveal, and an official story synopsis that teases a fresh generation of paranormal heroes.

Set in New York City in 1994, the series takes place five years after the events of Ghostbusters II, when the original team famously brought the Statue of Liberty to life to save the city. But while that battle may have ended, a new supernatural threat is just beginning.

According to the official logline:

“A new wave of supernatural terror hits the Big Apple, forcing a group of scrappy, young New Yorkers — untrained, underappreciated, and kinda sorta responsible for the problem — to put on proton packs, face their fears, and bust some ghosts.”

The newly released concept art hints at a darker and more cinematic tone than previous animated entries. One image showcases a massive fiery ghost towering over a lone figure inside an industrial building, while another depicts eerie creatures roaming the streets of New York beneath an orange sunset sky.

The series is being executive produced by Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan, Ben Hibon, Elliott Kalan, Amie Karp, and original Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd. Reitman and Kenan previously collaborated on Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, helping usher the franchise into a new era while honoring its roots.

Fans have been eager for more animated Ghostbusters adventures ever since The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters aired decades ago. Early reactions online have praised the title Night Shift and the moody art direction, with many hoping the series embraces a slightly darker tone while maintaining the humor the franchise is known for.

Netflix has confirmed that Ghostbusters: Night Shift will premiere exclusively on the streaming service in 2027.

With a 1990s setting, a new generation of ghost hunters, and the backing of several key figures behind the recent films, Ghostbusters: Night Shift may be the franchise’s most exciting animated revival yet.

What do you think of the first look at Ghostbusters: Night Shift? Are you excited to return to the world of Ghostbusters?
