The Drama’s Kristoffer Borgli Justified Dating Teen in Essay
The Drama director Kristoffer Borgli is receiving backlash after an essay he wrote in 2012 justifying his relationship with a teenager has resurfaced on Reddit.
In a piece for Norwegian magazine Dagens Naeringsliv written in 2012, Borgli, 40, described his “exotic summer” dating a 16-year-old girl, which is the age of consent in Norway, when he was 10 years her senior, calling it a “May-December” relationship. (The term “May-December” refers to a romantic age difference that society disapproves of.)
“I met a girl ten years younger than me whom I liked very much — a girl who wasn’t old enough to vote — and I had to find something that could recalibrate my moral compass,” Borgli, who was 27 dated the teen, wrote in the essay, translated to English by The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, March 26. “The few friends I confided in about my situation responded that it was not ‘within bounds.’ That confirmed that it was precisely a May-December romance.”
The director, whose latest film The Drama is set to hit theaters in April, recalled the evolution of his romance with the teen girl, including their mostly shut-in lifestyle.
“Beside me lay a blonde girl, a high school student enjoying the sporadic holidays in May,” Borgli remembered of their time in his apartment. “I chose to see her that way, to define her by her age, and I chose never to see her again.”
He confessed, “But you can’t choose what the heart wants.”
Borgli explained that in order to sort out his “emotional dilemma” he turned to Lost in Translation, which depicted a May-December romance with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson who were 53 and 18, respectively, while filming.
The filmmaker pointed to Woody Allen’s Manhattan as the biggest influence on whether he would continue to see this girl. He noted the 1979 film featured a 42-year-old man dating a 17-year-old girl, presented in a “positive way” that caused “no controversy.”
“Why shouldn’t my relationship — with a considerably smaller age difference — in 2012 be ‘within bounds’?” Borgli mused, revealing, “I chose to listen to Woody over my friends.”
Borgli shared that he was “fascinated” by the girl’s life, calling her “quite equal” to him as she was into piano, went to gallery openings and felt grown up.
“Suddenly we were together all the time — long days in my apartment, eggs and bacon with Woody Allen films for breakfast (she was also a fan), long walks with her parents’ dog, and late midweek evenings at restaurants and bars (where they didn’t check ID),” he confessed.
Borgli added that when the girl’s parents were away they drank their wine and read their books.

“That summer, I didn’t travel — for the first time as long as I can remember — but the time we spent together that summer in her parents’ apartment was nonetheless the best and most exotic summer I’ve ever had,” he wrote, but once her parents came home “unexpectedly early from vacation” and he had to exit the first floor window the romance came to a halt.
Borgli concluded, “The summer ended, and our weeklong weekends became ordinary weekdays. She was May; I was December.”
Us Weekly has reached out to Borgli and A24, the production company behind The Drama, for comment.
After THR translated the essay, it made its rounds on Reddit — and users were quick to slam the director for his past actions.
“Ooooof that’s disappointing. Had no idea about this,” one fan wrote on the forum.
“What a f***ing creep,” another fan replied. “So, instead of accepting that he’s a creep who should not act on his creepiness, he decided everyone else was wrong and fellow creeps’ 1970s fantasies should guide his life?”
A third user confessed they didn’t want to support Borgli’s new film ahead of its Friday, April 3, release.
“Well … guess I won’t be watching The Drama,” the person wrote on Reddit. “I’m usually pretty good at separating art and artist usually but preying on vastly underage girls is where I draw a line 🙅.”

Kate Middleton Sparks Worry She’s ‘Carrying Too Much’ After Cancer Battle
Amid ongoing royal controversies, Prince William has relied heavily on Kate Middleton, who continues to support him and the wider family.
Insiders note her influence in guiding the future king through challenging moments, including handling concerns about former Prince Andrew’s role.
The couple recently attended a service at Canterbury Cathedral for the installation of Dame Sarah Mullally, the first woman to lead the Church of England, highlighting Prince William’s connection to faith and royal duties.
Kate Middleton Seen As The Royal Family’s ‘Steady Hand’ Amid Ongoing Challenges

Insiders claim Prince William has been leaning heavily on his wife, Kate Middleton, for support.
According to In Touch, a source noted that Kate has “always been his steady hand,” a role she’s played since their early days together.
“Even back in their university days, she was the voice of reason, always pushing William to think of the bigger picture and his role within the monarchy,” they added.
That dynamic hasn’t changed. The source points out that during her recent health struggles, Kate “was the one holding everything together and supporting William while he was struggling to process it all.”
Kate Middleton ‘Rarely Says No,’ Causing Those Around Her To Worry That She’s ‘Carrying Too Much’

Now that Kate is in remission, those close to her are growing concerned.
They feel the future queen may be taking on too much, especially as more members of the family turn to her for guidance and support.
The insider adds that it’s no longer just William depending on her; Kate has increasingly become the “go-to person” others rely on, including King Charles III.
“The thing with Kate is she rarely says no because she loves to be of service, which is a beautiful quality, but it also means she runs the risk of burning herself out,” the source explained. “Everyone agrees she’s incredibly capable. They just worry that she’s carrying too much.”
Prince William Pressed For Action Against Ex-Prince Andrew Long Before Titles Were Stripped

One of the challenging moments Kate is seemingly guiding the royal family through is the current scrutiny plaguing the monarchy due to the former Duke of York, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s connection to the late sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
The future king and queen were recently heckled during a royal outing over Andrew’s shocking arrest, with an insider telling People Magazine, “Other events have rocked the monarchy, but something from within — where someone is being arrested — is very different. This is much more serious.”
However, long before King Charles officially removed Andrew’s royal titles last year, William is said to have expressed serious concerns about his uncle’s place in the family.
In his new book, “William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era: The Inside Story,” author Russell Myers details William’s stance following Andrew’s controversial 2019 BBC interview regarding his Epstein ties.
Sources revealed that William urged his father and Queen Elizabeth to take decisive action, believing that Andrew should handle the fallout on his own.
One insider said that William reportedly “never much liked his uncle and wanted him out of the picture immediately before the rot further set in.”
Prince William And Kate Middleton Attended A Historic Service For The First Female Archbishop Of Canterbury

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, March 25, William and Kate attended a historic service at Canterbury Cathedral, celebrating the installation of the first woman to lead the Church of England.
William represented his father, King Charles III, upholding the tradition of the heir appearing at key royal ceremonies.
The service marked the formal investiture of Dame Sarah Mullally as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury.
Arriving just ahead of the service, the Prince and Princess of Wales were welcomed by Lady Colgrain, the Lord Lieutenant of Kent, before joining the congregation and participating in the ceremony, including singing hymns during the procession.
For the occasion, Kate wore an elegant Suzannah coat complemented by a wide-brimmed hat by Juliette Botterill.
Earlier, the couple had met Mullally at Lambeth Palace in February, shortly after she was named Archbishop-elect in October 2025, with her appointment officially confirmed in January.
Prince William’s Faith In Focus During Historic Canterbury Cathedral Service
The appearance also sheds light on William’s personal relationship with faith. While he does not attend church as regularly as his father, Charles III, or his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, insiders say William remains committed to supporting the church in his own way.
One source explained to The Sunday Times that for William, this event “is a drawing of a line in the sand of where he’s at, and it’s really important that it [the question over his commitment to the Church] is cleared up.”
They added: “His feeling is, ‘I might not be at church every day, but I believe in it, I want to support it, and this is an important aspect of my role and the next role, and I will take it very seriously, in my own way.”
Following their February meeting, Mullally spoke warmly about the pair, expressing shared hopes for a better future and noting that she would continue to hold them and their family in my prayers.”

Where They Are Amid Company Retreat
Jury Duty is expanding with a new season — but where is the original cast now?
The comedy premiered on Prime Video in 2023 and followed a group of prospective jurors going through the selection process and civil trial. Most of the cast members were actually actors except for one participant, who was unaware that everything was fictionalized.
Ronald Gladden was a contractor who answered a vague Craigslist ad to participate in a documentary about jury duty.
“I was just under the impression that this was going to be a behind-the-scenes look … or what it was like for jury duty,” he recalled to Access Hollywood in April 2023. “So, I signed up for what I thought was a documentary. I didn’t really know what was going on until the end.”
In addition to Gladden, the show featured James Marsden, Mekki Leeper, Edy Modica, Ishmel Sahid, David Brown, Cassandra Blair, Maria Russell and Kirk Fox. Susan Berger, Ross Kimball, Pramode Kumar, Ron Song and Brandon Loeser also appeared.
Season 2, which premiered in March 2026, follows Anthony Norman, who is hired at Rockin’ Grandma’s Hot Sauce as a temp while unaware that the company is fake.

James Marsden
James Marsden was already a household name when he played a parody of himself as an alternate juror in Jury Duty. He has since appeared in Paradise, Your Friends & Neighbors and more Sonic the Hedgehog films.

Counting On Removed From Streaming After Joseph Duggar Arrest
Counting On has been removed from streaming platforms following Joseph Duggar’s recent arrest for child molestation.
The TLC series, which aired from 2015 to 2020, is no longer available to view on HBO Max as of Friday, March 27. Additionally, The US Sun reported that the show has also been pulled from Discovery+.
Some users in Canada and the United Kingdom, meanwhile, have claimed that Counting On is still available to view.
Us Weekly has reached out to Warner Bros. Discovery for comment.
Counting On served as a spinoff to 19 Kids and Counting following its 2015 cancellation amid Joseph’s brother Josh Duggar’s molestation scandal. (Josh was accused of molesting five underage girls, four of whom were his sisters, when he was a teen. In 2021, Josh was arrested for receiving and possessing child pornography. He was found guilty and sentenced to 12.5 years in prison the following year. Josh has since made numerous attempts to appeal his sentence, which have all been denied.)
The series followed the lives of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s older children as they began their own families. Jana, John-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn-Grace and Josie all made appearances.
Joseph and wife Kendra Duggar were featured on Counting On as they began their courtship. During season 6, Joseph asked Kendra’s father, Pastor Paul Caldwell, for his permission to propose. The couple wed one month before the episode aired in October 2017. Joseph and Kendra share four children: Garrett, Addison, Brooklyn and Justus.
News of Counting On’s removal from streaming platforms comes after Joseph was arrested in Arkansas for lewd and lascivious behavior involving molestation of a victim less than 12 years old and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 years or older.
A victim, now 14, claimed that she experienced “several instances of sexual abuse” with Joseph when she was 9 years old. The alleged incidents took place while on a family vacation with the Duggars in Panama City Beach, Florida, back in 2020.
The girl alleged that Joseph “asked [her] to sit on his lap, numerous times” and asked her to “sit on the couch beside [him].” She also claimed that Joseph would cover them with a blanket, where he allegedly touched her inappropriately. She shared that Joseph later “apologized for his actions,” claiming that “the incidents stopped occurring” following the apology.
Joseph was arrested after the victim’s father called the reality star to confront him. During the call, during which police were on the line, Joseph allegedly admitted his actions to the father and to Tontitown detectives. He appeared in court virtually one day after his arrest and did not enter a plea. Joseph, who waived his right to an extradition hearing, is awaiting extradition from Arkansas to Florida.
Shortly after his arrest, Kendra was booked and taken into custody. She and Joseph were both charged with four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, second degree and four counts of second degree false imprisonment. Kendra was released after paying a $1470 bond.
A spokesperson for the Duggar family told Us in a statement, “[Kendra’s] is a misdemeanor charge totally unrelated to the Florida case.”

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau Are All Smiles on Dinner Date
Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau prove they are still going strong — and don’t feel their ages — with a recent date night snap.
“How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were?” Perry, 41, captioned a series of Instagram photos on Friday, March 27.
The caption appeared to be tailored to Perry’s first picture of the couple out to dinner. In the photo, Perry and Trudeau, 54, are both holding up their phones to show their “biological ages” after taking a quiz together.
The “Roar” singer’s result revealed that she is 33.1 years old, which is more than eight years younger than her calendar age. Trudeau’s number was 43, 11 years younger than his real age.
Both Perry and Trudeau had big grins on their faces, with the singer closing her eyes and smiling after realizing they both have young spirits.
The rest of Perry’s photo recap included pictures of her skiing with daughter Daisy, 5, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom, and getting custom cowboy boots made for her little girl.
The sweet upload comes less than one year after Perry and the former Canadian prime minister were first spotted out to dinner together in July 2025.
A source exclusively told Us Weekly at the time that Perry and Trudeau — who shares kids Xavier, 18, Ella Grace, 17, and Hadrien, 11, with ex-wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau — were “definitely” on a date when they were seen in Montreal, Canada.
The musician kept the start of her relationship with Trudeau quiet for months before they were seen packing on the PDA and kissing during an October 2025 yacht trip off the coast of Santa Barbara, California.
“She’s very happy,” an insider told Us at the time. “She’s trying to keep it low-key, and they’ve spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship.”
The twosome ended 2025 with a very public outing, meeting with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during a trip to Japan that December.
To kick off the new year, Perry gave fans a glimpse at her romance with Trudeau and the time they shared over the holidays.
“Holidaze ♥️,” Perry captioned the Instagram post in January, sharing a photo of herself leaning to kiss Trudeau.
Earlier this month, Perry once again featured Trudeau in a photo dump.
“You are the treasure you seek,” she captioned the Instagram snaps, which included a silly selfie of Perry and Trudeau taken from below.
