Why Anderson Cooper Left 60 Minutes: Departure Explained
Anderson Cooper said goodbye to 60 Minutes after 20 years as one of the show’s correspondents.
“There’s very few things that have been around for as long as 60 Minutes has and [have been able to] maintain the quality that it has,” Cooper, 58, said during his final show in May 2026. “Things can always evolve and change, and I think that’s awesome, and things should evolve and change, but I hope the core of what 60 Minutes is always remains.”
60 Minutes debuted on CBS in 1968. Cooper took on his role as one of the show’s main correspondents in 2006. He confirmed his exit from the show in February 2026.
“Being a correspondent at 60 Minutes has been one of the great honors of my career,” Cooper told Variety in a statement at the time. “I got to tell amazing stories, and work with some of the best producers, editors and camera crews in the business.”
He added, “For nearly 20 years, I’ve been able to balance my jobs at CNN and CBS, but I have little kids now and I want to spend as much time with them as possible, while they still want to spend time with me.”
Keep scrolling for everything to know about Cooper’s departure from 60 Minutes:
Why Did Anderson Cooper Leave ‘60 Minutes’?
Cooper’s February 2026 statement explained the reason for his departure. The journalist shared that he wanted to spend more time with sons Wyatt, 6, and Sebastian, 4, whom he coparents with ex Benjamin Maisani.
When Was Anderson Cooper’s Final Episode of ‘60 Minutes’?
The journalist said his final goodbye to the show on May 17, 2026.
“I think the independence of 60 Minutes has been critical. I think the trust it has with viewers is critical to the success of 60 Minutes,” Cooper said as part of his farewell speech. “When you see a 60 Minutes story, and you’re like, ‘That was a really good story,’ it was a good story because it requires time, it requires patience, it requires money.”
He added, “I hope that’s known and honored and valued and continues.”
Was ‘60 Minutes’ Anderson Cooper’s Only Job?
No, he made that clear during his final episode on the show.
“The whole time I’ve done pieces on 60 Minutes, my full-time job has been over at CNN, and still is,” he explained. “It’s been really challenging to do the kind of work you need to do to have a great 60 Minutes piece on.”
Cooper noted that CNN “doesn’t like it” if he took time off for 60 Minutes.
“I’ve worked mostly for 60 Minutes on weekends,” he added. “My vacation time at CNN has been working on 60 Minutes pieces. I’ve loved it, but it’s been tough.”
Cooper will continue to host his daily show Anderson Cooper 360° on CNN.

Sydney Sweeney And Others Shut Out Of The 2026 Emmys
Some Hollywood icons can kiss winning an Emmy this year goodbye, and Sydney Sweeney is one of them.
Certain A-listers will not get to experience the thrill and tension of waiting on the results, as they did not bag any nominations for the upcoming coveted entertainment awards. The shows and actors who made the list are in high spirits as they await the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards scheduled for September 14.
Sydney Sweeney has been nominated twice for the awards during the 2022 Emmys but walked home empty-handed. She was in the running for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for “Euphoria” and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for “The White Lotus”

While it cannot be argued that Sweeney delivered a phenomenal portrayal of her character, Cassie, especially in the third and final season of “Euphoria,” she did not bag a nomination for the performance.
The actress has received several accolades and praise from viewers and fans of the HBO show since it aired. Her name has been in headlines even while controversy arose surrounding her character.
The TV personality’s name will continue to be in the limelight in the industry, not just with an Emmy for her jaw-dropping acting on “Euphoria” season 3. It comes as a surprise that she did not get nominated, as she snagged an Emmy nomination for her performance in season 2 of the show.
Sweeney’s shutout did not rub off on other stars of the hit show. Colman Domingo and Zendaya got their names on the list for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. It should be noted that they already hold Awards for these categories.
Other Shocking 2026 Emmys Nomination Snubs Like Jeremy Allen White

The Emmys nomination list just showed some industry stars that they cannot get two comfortable. Jeremy Allen White, who got three consecutive Emmy nominations and two wins for his role in the critically acclaimed show, “The Bear,” would be warming the bench this year.
This may hit close to home as “The Bear” aired its farewell season this year. However, his co-star, Ayo Edebiri, got nominated for Best Actress in a comedy series.
Page Six detailed that the “Love Story” star, who made headlines for playing John F. Kennedy, was also left out of the chance to add an Emmy to his shelf. While Paul Anthony Kelly did not make the cut, his co-star Sarah Pidgeon bagged a nomination, and the show got into the running for best limited or anthology series.
Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke is not an Emmy nominee this year either. Hawke is a major star and a Hollywood Veteran who delivered an applause-worthy performance in the FX series “The Lowdown”; however, he was snubbed, as the race is tight for leading actor in a comedy show.
The 2026 Emmys Not Feeling ‘Euphoria,’ And Other Hit Shows
While the Emmys understood the assignment with many expected nominations like “The Pitt,” “Widow’s Bay,” “Hacks,” and so on, some widely praised shows did not make the list for 2026 awards. Sweeney did not get nominated, and neither did “Euphoria” for Outstanding Drama Series.
Joining the list of HBO hit shows warming the bench is “Half Man,” which also got snubbed for Limited Series. UK’s financial drama “Industry” was shut out of the Emmys despite its widespread critical acclaim. The HBO show did not secure a single nomination across major categories and acting categories for the entertainers.
Netflix’s “Stranger Things” did not make the cut for Outstanding Drama Series, as reported by Deadline. CBS’s “The Amazing Race,” which has always been on the list for Outstanding Reality Competition Program, did not make the cut this year either.
Inside The Emmys Jaw-Dropping Snubs Of All Time
When certain shows or entertainers are overlooked time and time again, it raises dust that sometimes never settles. Over the years, there have been some industry stars that gave phenomenal TV performances, but never won a category or weren’t even given a chance to bag an award.
Looking back, a character that stood out was that of Steve Carell as Michael Gary Scott on “The Office.” Carell played the manager of Dunder Mifflin for nine seasons on the show.
Despite receiving six nominations, he has never won an Emmy. In 2011, his co-star, Rainn Wilson, wrote in a now-deleted post, “The world of TV should be ashamed of itself that Steve Carell never won an Emmy for Michael Gary Scott.”
The New York Post reported that “Black-ish” was nominated seven times and still never went home with a win. The sitcom’s producer, Anthony Anderson, was also nominated multiple times for an award but never won.
Another entertainer who does not have the plaque to their name is Hugh Laurie after playing Dr. Gregory House on “House, M.D” for eight seasons and six Emmy nominations. He lost in the Outstanding Lead Actor category and also as an executive producer when the show was up for Outstanding Drama Series.
Others include Courtney Cox, who was never nominated for her role on “Friends,” Charlie Hunnam in “Sons of Anarchy,” and Amy Poehler, who never secured a win despite six nominations for playing Leslie Knope in “Parks and Recreation.”
Sydney Sweeney Took An Early Bow Out From Last Year’s Emmys

Sweeney made an appearance at the Emmys last year but did not stay for the after-parties. The actress looked dashing in her red evening gown and even stepped on stage to present an award.
However, her interaction with her colleagues backstage was little to nothing, though she took time to take pictures with fans before leaving the event.
The “Housemaid” star later explained her unavoidable absence at the after-parties was due to an early morning filming commitment she had the next day. The Blast reported that there were speculations that she was given the cold shoulder at the Awards ceremony due to her political stance as a registered Republican.
Other views carried that she fell out with her fellow Hollywood stars due to an American Eagle Denim campaign she featured in. Sweeney was reportedly seen in multiple videos praising her “genes” as a pun for “jeans.” Ultimately, the ad was tagged as racist.
Will Sydney Sweeney and other entertainers still make an appearance at the Emmys despite receiving zero nominations?

Meghan McCain Wants ‘Proof of Life’ for Mitch McConnell
Meghan McCain is issuing a plea for a “real update” about Senator Mitch McConnell’s health.
“Senator McConnell’s staff owes it to the American public to give a real update on his health or show us some kind of proof of life,” McCain, 41, wrote via X on Tuesday, July 7. “All of this is unseemly, macabre, bad for democracy and quite frankly embarrassing for the country.”
McConnell, 84, was reportedly found unconscious last month after suffering a potential heart attack.
“Senator McConnell is still working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery,” his spokesperson, Stephanie Penn, told People via email on July 1. “However, he will not be voting this week.”
Days later, reports circulated that McConnell was brain dead before the politician’s staffers issued another statement.
“Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital,” McConnell’s office said in a statement to Us Weekly on Tuesday, July 7. “The senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”
CNN analyst Scott Jennings has also claimed to have spoken with McConnell.
“He’s still recovering in the hospital. We talked for just shy of 20 minutes … about IRAN, UKRAINE, the unfolding situation in MAINE, my visit to the TR Presidential Library and even a little bit of Senate history,” Jennings, 48, tweeted on Tuesday. “I told him we want to see him back at work as soon as possible.”
McConnell has not further addressed his health scare. He was previously hospitalized earlier this year.
“In an abundance of caution, after experiencing flu-like symptoms over the weekend, Senator McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation [on Monday, February 2],” his rep told Us in February. “His prognosis is positive and he is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving. He is in regular contact with his staff and looks forward to returning to Senate business.”
McConnell has held a seat representing Kentucky in the Senate since 1985. Currently in his seventh term, McConnell announced in 2025 that he didn’t plan to seek reelection in 2026.
“Seven times my fellow Kentuckians have sent me to the Senate,” McConnell said in a February speech. “Every day in between, I’ve been humbled by the trust they place in me to do their business right here. Representing our commonwealth has been the honor of a lifetime. I will not seek this honor an eighth time. My current term in the Senate will be my last.”

Extremely R-Rated Comedy Is A Lebowski-Style Matthew McConaughey Crime Spree
By Robert Scucci
| Published

Florida movies are built differently, and after recently watching 2025’s Mermaid I wanted something that occupied the same territory without all the existential weight. My search led me to Matthew McConaughey’s 2019 drug-addled romp, The Beach Bum, which sees our favorite True Detective channeling his inner Dude in the most unhinged way possible. It’s a story about a nomadic poet who’s a slave to his impulses, lives life just for kicks, and meets countless colorful characters along the way.
Oh yeah, and he’s also filthy rich thanks to his wife Minnie (Isla Fisher), who puts up with his antics because he’s a literal literary genius, and the two share an unbreakable bond despite what their multiple affairs would have you believe.

The Beach Bum is a 95-minute fugue state of debauchery, poetry, loss, grief, and never forgetting what life is all about: doing whatever you want, all the time, without any regard for the consequences. It’s a surprisingly disarming film, but it never loses its sense of humor thanks to McConaughey’s commitment to the role.
Moondog Abides
Moondog (Matthew McConaughey) is one of the most fascinating characters I’ve seen in a minute because he’s incredibly selfish and seemingly willing to sacrifice his family’s happiness for his own pleasure without giving it much thought. After you spend some time with him, however, you realize why everybody loves him. His personality is infectious, and even though he’s pretty much half in the bag whenever he’s awake, he brings out the best in people.

His wife Minnie loves him to death, but they don’t really live together, which is probably for the better because she’s having an affair with his best friend, R&B singer Lingerie (Snoop Dogg). Moondog spends most of his time wandering around the Florida Keys, hooking up with women, drinking himself into oblivion, and smoking whatever he can get his hands on, only returning to his wife’s McMansion for special occasions like his daughter Heather’s (Stefania LaVie Owen) wedding.
Here’s the kicker: Moondog’s agent Lewis (Jonah Hill) is fed up that the most brilliant writer on his payroll is squandering his gift instead of sharing it with the world, and Minnie and Heather feel the same way. After Minnie dies in a car accident while partying with Moondog after karaoke one night, he learns that half of her sprawling estate has been left to Heather. He can only access the second half, along with the house, cars, and everything else, if he finishes his next book.

Deep down, Moondog knows she’s right and that he needs to buckle down and finish his masterpiece, but being the free spirit that he is, he has to do it his own way. He does so by trashing the house, getting arrested, being sentenced to rehab, escaping from rehab, going on a crime spree with a pyromaniac named Flicker (Zac Efron), fighting off shark attacks alongside a mysterious, perpetually drunk Vietnam veteran named Captain Wack (Martin Lawrence), and it goes on like this while Moondog lugs his typewriter around as the days blend into weeks.
A Fascinating Fugue State
The one thing I found truly enthralling about The Beach Bum is how strong Moondog’s constitution is despite being an absolute mess. He doesn’t live like anybody else he knows, and he refuses to compromise for anybody. He’ll give you the shirt off his back, but if he’s not having fun while doing it, he’ll push you into the marina and laugh like a maniac. His entire persona is dripping with charisma, and even when he’s robbing an old man in a wheelchair because he needs beer money while on the run, he somehow comes off as likable.

Even better, everybody he encounters just seems on board with his madness because they want to spend time with him. And when the good times are over, Moondog doesn’t cry or get angry. He just moves on to the next thing because that’s how he’s wired.
The Beach Bum is a total fugue state, following one eccentric yet brilliant maniac as he expresses his love for the world in ways that will baffle you, but it all leads somewhere, and it’s one of the most satisfying endings I’ve seen in a hot minute. I found myself letting out deep laughs during the final sequences because it was all so surreal. But after living with these characters for a while, it felt right, and this is one of those feel-good movies I wasn’t expecting to like so much, but will absolutely revisit.

As of this writing, The Beach Bum is streaming for free on Tubi.

Days of our Lives Early Spoilers July 13-17: Brady Demands Truth & Theo Spirals Out of Control
Days of Our Lives spoilers for July 13-17, 2026 expect to see Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) getting very suspicious about EJ DiMera’s (Dan Feuerriegel) interest in Rachel Black (Lorelei Olivia Mote) and he’s going to grill Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) about whether she’s being paranoid or if this is all justified. Plus, Theo Carver (Tyler Joseph Andrews) is losing it about more than one issue.
We are almost done with July Sweeps, which ends on the 20th.
And as we always do on early edition day, we start with what is coming the rest of this week. Then we dive into next week’s action.
Days of Our Lives: Brady’s Suspicions and Kristen’s Secrets – July 8th Through 10th
So, on Wednesday, July 8th, we have got Brady pushing Kristen. He’s not going to let this slide. She told Brady that she doesn’t want Rachel out of Bayview because of EJ, but then Kristen backtracked and tried to play it off. But Steve Johnson’s (Stephen Nichols) comments have Brady wondering. He may think that there is more to it and there should be some concern about EJ and Rachel. However, Kristen can’t say too much or EJ may tell Brady exactly what Kristen had done to Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) and that she almost killed his son.
Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien) and Tate Black (Leo Howard) have a heartfelt conversation. She is very angry about Kristen and Xander Cook Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) and EJ. I think it’d be funny if Gwen was getting self-defense training to learn how to kick Kristen’s butt even worse than she did this last time.
Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) gets some advice from Bonnie Kiriakis (Judi Evans) and this could be step-mom tips since she is his stepmom and wants to help the situation with Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) and baby mama Joy Wesley (AlexAnn Hopkins).
Days of our Lives Spoilers: Philip Apologizes to Stephanie
Philip Kiriakis (John-Paul Lavoisier) tells Stephanie that he is sorry. She already has some ideas for how to help with their DiMera issue, so this may be part of a business meeting. But Philip may also be concerned about Stephanie’s well-being with all the Joy baby mama drama going on.
This week, Kristen tells Theo that Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) is the reason that Lexie Carver (Nikki Crawford) got a brain tumor. I fully expect Kristen to also throw EJ under that same bus. However, Kristen is misrepresenting history to some extent. Andre DiMera (Thaao Phenglis) was acting alone when he kidnapped Lexie. That’s my recollection of things. And Stefano was crushed by what happened.
Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez) and Theo face off again. He is very angry and hurt about what Kristen says this week. But Theo’s also annoyed at Gabi, but may still pay out her inheritance early, knowing she is planning to use it to bail out Titan, which will annoy EJ.
Days of our Lives Spoilers: Paulina Goes Off on Abe
Thursday, July 9th, Paulina Price (Jackée Harry) is snapping at Abe Carver (James Reynolds). We know Paulina is under a lot of stress with Chanel Dupree‘s (Raven Bowens) cancer and the chemo and of course not having anyone to support her. This all might just be wearing on her since Paulina is all alone in this.
Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) tells Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord) he’s thinking of ending her investigation into EJ and we’ll see if Cat’s memory that she recovered of kissing EJ and seeming to fall for him changes her attitude on this investigation. Andrew Donovan warned Cat she’d better not sleep with EJ. So, I’m really interested to see how far things got with him and Cat in Italy.
Also, EJ is feeling triumphant. He’s got a plan in place to crush the Kiriakis family with that terrible new loan. He got Johnny to drop the hint to Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) that is saving Holly Jonas’ (Ashley Puzemis) life. And EJ personally oversaw them getting the tainted Coriseal dug up and removed from Smith Island. So, it looks like this week that EJ takes an additional step to protect the DiMera family by setting up Holly, his own stepdaughter.
Days of our Lives Spoilers: EJ Sets Holly Up
So, looks like Tate is going to find pills in Holly’s things and asks her about them because by the end of the week, Sarah also suspects that Holly is taking drugs. And we’ll see, but I think EJ may stop by to see Holly, perhaps on the pretense of talking about Amy Choi’s (Shi Ne Nielsen) lawsuit or just checking on her, and slip some Coriseal pills, not tainted ones, but legit ones into her stuff, and Tate finds them.
But we’ll watch and see how it goes. So, when Tate finds these pills, Holly insists they don’t belong to her and she’s going to blow up at Tate. Sarah, of course, will be shocked at Holly’s rant at Tate. And that could make Holly look guilty when instead she’s just angry at the accusation when she knows that she is clean and isn’t using opioids.
Days of our Lives Spoilers: Leo Cozies Up to Javi
Friday, July 10th, Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) is playing the sympathy card with Javi Hernandez (Jacob Martinez), and I think it’s about his concussion. They’re talking up at the Brady Pub, and Leo is up to something. Javi’s got his arm around him. So, it’s clear that Leo is still affected by his latest brain injury, but he may also be playing it up. Also, Alex has a proposition, but Philip and Xander think it’s a bad idea.
And this may be about Stephanie’s strategy for PR to help deal with EJ and the DiMera threat to Titan. Brady and Sarah keep looking into how Holly was poisoned and what took Destiny’s life. And Chanel gets comfort from Johnny and Paulina. She may be losing her hair. I don’t think it happens that fast usually, but Chanel is trying on a pretty long blonde wig this week.
Days of our Lives Spoilers: Stephanie Furious with Joy
Plus, we’ve got Steve telling Stephanie that he and Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) are there for her, and this may be about her taking some heat over a stunt she pulled. So, Stephanie and Chanel got themselves all worked up, smack talking Joy and saying harsh things about Alex’s baby mama. Some justified, some not.
Stephanie’s off the mark about Joy’s call from the hospital. She never told Alex there was an emergency with Kelsey. Alex assumed there was and he hung up on Joy and then ran out on Stephanie. So, she ought not be spreading that lie around. But also, let’s be clear, she hates Joy on Days of our Lives.
And we all know that Joy is working an agenda. It’s just that that piece of information is inaccurate. Alex is going to get another call this week from Joy. And Stephanie may assume it’s another nonsense call from Joy like with the flat tire or the insurance card, something that Stephanie doesn’t think she should be calling Alex for.
Instead of Stephanie answering the phone and just asking what’s going on, screening the call, instead she sends Joy’s call to voicemail. Then Stephanie deletes the voicemail. And if you remember, there’s a scene in the big summer promo that has Alex running up to the hospital, and there is in fact a medical crisis with Kelsey and Joy crying in his arms. So, if Alex runs late to be there for Kelsey because of Stephanie’s interference, that could be a problem.

Days of Our Lives: EJ’s Schemes and Family Fallout – July 13th Through 17th
Then, in the week of July 13th through the 17th, we’re going to find out that there is a lot more to EJ and Cat’s time in Italy than he can remember, more than even she can remember. But, she’s going to keep digging into her memories of EJ with Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), and Cat might find out she and EJ actually fell for each other. And I wonder if that will change Cat’s mind on pursuing this WSB investigation.
Very soon, EJ is annoyed when Brady and Sarah will not drop this Coriseal thing, and EJ is ready to fire Sarah. So, they get in a confrontation at the hospital. EJ says that she doesn’t need your help, likely referring to Holly, and we’re going to see Sarah shocked and she’s asking EJ if he’s really firing her. Kayla won’t like that one bit because the hospital’s already short-handed. They really can’t go without her.
Days of our Lives Spoilers: Abe & Theo Get Devastating News
Also, some DiMera dollars are coming the way of Xander and Philip so they can pay off EJ’s onerous loan. But when he finds out his family’s money bailed out the Kiriakis family, it could get even worse.
Theo and Abe soon find out that Lexie is sick again and things look dire and both of them are going to be furious at EJ. Plus, Xander and Kristen keep doing their thing, plotting together to take EJ down. But also, there is a showdown coming where Gwen will confront Xander.
Hopefully, he’s not unkind about bedding Kristen behind her back. Not that he and Gwen were exclusive, but Xander knows full well that Kristen was Gwen’s friend. Also, she may be commiserating with Philip and could target him for seduction to hit back at Xander.
That’s your Days of Our Lives spoilers for July 8-17.

Ice Previously Had The Internet Asking “What’s Tea?” After Viral Photos With Tobey Maguire Dropped
Ice previously had the internet working overtime after photos of her and Tobey Maguire surfaced from Michael Rubin’s annual All-White party, with fans saying they looked a little too cozy. The Roommates quickly speculated that Tobey and Ice were locking lips, but ‘The Breakfast Club’ co-host Loren Lorosa later cleared the air and said they were actually just shotgunning a vape. She also explained that the photo showing Tobey holding Ice’s arm caught them right after they greeted each other.
“And to Clarify ..I did ask if the leaning was them shot gunning the vape once I received the statement .. because that lean in and the arm caused the frenzy.. and that’s when I was told the photo caught them greeting each other,” Loren wrote in a post on X.

Star Wars Director Officially Reveals How the Franchise Shaped His New Netflix Anime
Summary
- Collider’s Steven Weintraub talks with Yuki Igarashi for Netflix’s The Ribbon Hero.
- Igarashi discusses adapting the story from Osamu Tezuka’s 1953 anime Princess Knight.
- He also talks about how his work on Star Wars: Visions helped tackle the franchise and why now is the perfect time for this adaptation.
A brand-new anime film is hitting Netflix soon, inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s 1953 manga, Princess Knight. This enduring tale of a lone heroine sparked the idea for The Ribbon Hero, directed by Yûki Igarashi (Star Wars: Visions), which recently celebrated an early preview at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, as part of Netflix’s anime showcase. There, Collider’s Steven Weintraub caught up with Igarashi to chat about why now is the perfect time to reimagine this story.
In the movie, Princess Saphire’s (Saya) kingdom in Shiverland is completely decimated by a catastrophe known as “Nergal.” Instead of giving in to her despair, however, Sapphire defies the bleak destiny her course was set on, “fighting different monsters” to determine her own fate.
During their interview at Annecy, Igarashi discusses carrying on the legacy of Tezuka’s Princess Knight through a modern-day reinterpretation he believes “will really speak to people of this generation.” He talks about how his work on the Disney+ series Star Wars: Visions helped tackle a long-standing IP and what he hopes his feature directorial debut, The Ribbon Hero, says about the identity of his animation studio, Outline, as their first major feature release.
‘The Ribbon Hero’ Director Reveals Their Favorite Hayao Miyazaki Movie
Two come to mind for Yûki Igarashi.
COLLIDER: I will start with the most important question. I ask this of a lot of people who work in animation: What is your favorite Hayao Miyazaki movie?
YÛKI IGARASHI: When I was young, my favorite was Princess Mononoke, and now it’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
Thank you for indulging me. With the film premiering here at Annecy ahead of its Netflix release, how do you think international audiences will connect with a story so deeply rooted in the history of Japanese manga?
IGARASHI: Actually, the way I’ve directed and made the film, I think thematically and story-wise, it’s more inspired by. So, it’s been arranged in a way that we kind of tap into different themes, COVID, disasters, and it’s been put through almost a fantasy lens. I think it’ll be much more resonant with a lot of modern audiences.
Your work is often praised for dynamic movement and emotional action. How did you approach action in The Ribbon Hero so that it expressed character rather than just spectacle?
IGARASHI: In the film, our protagonist is fighting different monsters, kaiju, if you will, and there’s a spectacle between kaiju versus the human. But in certain moments, there are ribbons that scatter, and the ribbons that scatter, when our hero, Sapphire, attacks the kaiju, it almost carries an emotion of its own, which I think is reflective of what’s going on in Sapphire’s mind.
‘Star Wars: Visions’ Played a Key Role in ‘The Ribbon Hero’s Development
Yûki Igarashi directed the Season 1 short, “Lop & Ochô.”
How did your experience directing Star Wars: Visions influence the way you approached a legacy property like Princess Knight?
IGARASHI: Absolutely, my experience with Star Wars, taking such an idea that has so much history and that influenced so many other IPs and different franchises that spawned after it… I would say Tezuka Osamu’s work has also inspired so many other works. So, just that idea of how it’s been interpreted, reinterpreted, is something that I’ve learned by working on Star Wars, and I try to put that influence into my own, The Ribbon Hero, as well.
The Ribbon Hero is inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s Princess Knight, one of manga’s foundational works. What was the first image, emotion, or idea that made you feel this story needed to be reimagined now?
IGARASHI: Princess Knight, of course, is a very old franchise, and it’s influenced so many works after it, but it’s hard to see that link anymore because it’s been reimagined and reinterpreted so many times. This idea of a fighting woman, a fighting heroine, the protagonist, it’s its own genre, the heroine, but I would argue that Princess Knight was the first that really did that. I think that by translating that into a format that people can absorb and consume now helps bridge that gap between modern-day media and its origins in the past. I think it’s been done in an interesting way that audiences will be receptive to.
Sapphire has meant different things to different generations of readers. What did you want this modern audience to feel when they meet her in this version?
IGARASHI: The world setting that we’re thrown into is a very harsh world that she has to navigate, and despite all that, you see her grit and her trying. She keeps a very bright attitude throughout all of it, and she doesn’t get dark. She keeps humor throughout the entire film despite what might be happening. So, I hope that that brightness and that sort of attitude, that way you approach the world, is something that will really speak to people of this generation.
In America, a lot of animated movies will go through very big changes during the development process. Sometimes not much, but other times they could screen the movie and realize things are really not working, and then redo a lot of things. When you make a movie with other people in Asia, does it change a lot when you’re making it, or is it very close to what you set out to make?
IGARASHI: I would say the fundamentals or the foundation haven’t changed or shifted much from development to final cut, but there were a lot of changes or differences over the course corrections, if you will, during production. It wasn’t something like we did a focus group or showed the client, and then we got notes and changed it as much as the team themselves. All the changes came from them. Animators would make suggestions, and we would have discussions that would shift the project over time. So, it wasn’t that there wasn’t any change, but a lot of it came from that.
‘The Ribbon Hero’ Hopes To Appeal to Hardcore Fans and Eager Newcomers
“That was a very strong perspective.”
What conversations did you have with the team about balancing nostalgia for longtime Tezuka fans with accessibility for viewers who have never heard of Princess Night?
IGARASHI: I don’t know how much of this I should be saying. [Laughs] A lot of the team, the animators that worked on this project, didn’t read much or know about the Princess Knight until they got involved. So I guess you could say they were almost looking at this project, too, with a similar lens that a lot of present-day or modern-day audiences would. So, that was a very strong perspective. They did a lot of research, of course, starting with this project, and I myself, of course, had done a lot of research to service that backbone of what the theme is that we’re trying to depict.
I meet people all the time who’ve never seen an Alfred Hitchcock movie or a Stanley Kubrick movie. You have to start somewhere.
IGARASHI: [Laughs] But I have seen Hitchcock and Kubrick.
This is the first major feature film produced by your animation studio, Outline. What kind of studio identity did you want this film to announce?
IGARASHI: I personally like old stuff. In this film and everything I do, I try to pay a lot of respect to the works that have come before me, and I think that translates to this film. I hope that also extends to the studio’s identity and ultimately to the audience, so that they can feel that’s where we come from.

Kristin Cavallari Gave Jay Cutler Half of Her Company in Divorce
Kristin Cavallari opened up about the division of monetary assets in her divorce from Jay Cutler, saying he walked away with “half the value” of her company Uncommon James.
“I will tell you that what ultimately gave me the confidence to leave my marriage was the success of Uncommon James,” Cavallari, 39, shared on the Tuesday, July 7, episode of the “Aspire” podcast.
Cavallari recalled finding “confidence” from having her own business, adding, “Which is interesting because if I didn’t have Uncommon James, I could have taken half of his money, right?”
Uncommon James was ultimately “a really large asset” on their balance sheet.
“I didn’t get anything, which I’m so happy about now. But I don’t get any money from my ex-husband,” she continued. “I had to give him half the value of Uncommon James in cash and properties and everything else.”
Cavallari admitted she was “really pissed” at the time, but her feelings have since changed.
“Now, I’m so thankful, because I think — for me — I’ve needed these things in my life to keep going,” she explained. “I have found that that is an instance where I was like, ‘I’m going to fight harder.’ Those little moments push me, and I actually come out the other side stronger.”

Cavallari and Cutler, 43, began dating in 2010 and got married three years later. They expanded their family with sons Camden, 13, and Jaxon, 12, and daughter Saylor, 10, before announcing their divorce in 2020 after seven years of marriage.
Cavallari has since shut down the assumption that Cutler funded her jewelry brand Uncommon James — and insisted she got nothing after they separated.
“I would say that’s one of the bigger misconceptions I see about me,” Cavallari exclusively told Us Weekly in June 2025, referring to claims that Cutler helped her finance her brand. “I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished on my own.”
Cutler, however, has disagreed with Cavallari’s version of events when it comes to their finances.
“Let’s think about this logically. ‘Not a penny,’ OK. Married for, I don’t know, seven years or so, three kids,” Cutler said during an August 2025 episode of his “Take It Outside” podcast. “You can go and see how much I made in the NFL. It’s online. You can see the contract from year to year and the total amount at the end of 12 years. So, you go to divorce and each side gets a lawyer and then you go to court and there’s a judge.”
Cutler argued there’s “not a judge in the state of Tennessee” that would have signed an agreement stating that he would “keep every single dollar” he made throughout their marriage.
The former professional football player referred to Uncommon James as a “marital asset” because Cavallari funded the company while they were together. He also called Cavallari’s comments “irresponsible” and said the Laguna Beach alum “didn’t get a penny” — but got “a lot of bills” — during the divorce.
“I think it’s reckless. I think it’s borderline slander to insinuate that there was zero dollars split during the marriage that each side got,” he added. “It’s insanity. It’s completely false, completely untrue. It is, it just is. I’ve got a divorce decree. I’ve got something that’s signed by the judge — it’s, like, 67 pages — it says the number breakdown.”
