For years, Katherine Heigl seemed unstoppable in Hollywood. After breaking out on the hit drama “Grey’s Anatomy” and becoming a rom-com favorite, the actress quickly rose to A-list status.
However, the momentum didn’t last. A mix of controversies, industry rumors, and headline-making comments gradually changed how she was perceived in Hollywood.
Today, Heigl lives far from the spotlight, prompting fans to wonder whether her career slowdown was truly her choice or the result of a reputation she struggled to shake.
Katherine Heigl’s rise in Hollywood happened quickly after she landed the role of Dr. Izzie Stevens in “Grey’s Anatomy” in 2005.
The role earned her widespread recognition and eventually an Emmy Award in 2007, placing her among television’s most talked-about stars.
Around the same time, she became a major box office presence with romantic comedies like “Knocked Up,” directed by Judd Apatow.
For a period, Heigl appeared poised to dominate both television and film.

According to the source, the narrative surrounding her behavior became difficult to escape.
“Katherine, as we all know, was forced out of Hollywood for being difficult,” the insider claimed, suggesting the reputation stuck long after the initial controversies.
One of the earliest controversies came during the height of Katherine Heigl’s success on “Grey’s Anatomy.”
In 2008, the actress withdrew herself from Emmy consideration despite previously winning the award for the role.
She explained that she had not been given the material that season to warrant an Emmy nomination.
Many interpreted the statement as a criticism of the show’s creative team, including creator Shonda Rhimes.
The moment quickly became one of the most talked-about controversies surrounding the actress. Heigl later admitted the situation could have been handled differently and said she apologized privately.
Still, tensions continued to build when she later appeared on a late night show, where she described the show’s long filming schedule as cruel and mean.
Looking back, Heigl acknowledged she regretted how the comment sounded, admitting she felt embarrassed by how “whiny [she] sounded.”

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the 47-year-old described the film as “a little sexist,” explaining that it portrayed women as “shrews, humorless and uptight.”
The remarks created tension with her co-star Seth Rogen, who later addressed the issue during a conversation with Howard Stern.
Rogen said he felt his “trust” had been “betrayed” by the comments, which surprised many fans because the film had been one of the biggest hits of Heigl’s career.
At the same time, reports surfaced suggesting the actress had failed to appear on set to film episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” during its sixth season.
Heigl rejected those claims, explaining that she had been on family leave after adopting her daughter and was waiting for the production team to call her back to work.
Eventually, she and Rhimes reached an agreement that allowed her to leave the show early, bringing her time on the series to an end in 2010.
As the narrative around her career grew, Katherine Heigl began publicly addressing the label that had followed her for years.
In a 2021 interview with The Washington Post, she spoke openly about how her comments had been interpreted and how the criticism escalated over time.
“I may have said a couple of things you didn’t like, but then that escalated to ‘she’s ungrateful,’ then that escalated to ‘she’s difficult,’ and that escalated to ‘she’s unprofessional,’” she said.
Heigl also questioned what people truly meant when they described someone as difficult. “What is your definition of difficult? Somebody with an opinion that you don’t like? Now, I’m 42, and that sh-t pisses me off.”
Despite the ongoing reputation challenges, the actress continued working in television, including roles in “Suits” and the Netflix series “Firefly Lane.”
In recent years, Heigl has stepped away from the Hollywood spotlight and built a quieter life with her husband, musician Josh Kelley, and their three children on a large ranch in Utah.
Heigl has also focused heavily on animal welfare. She launched the dog food brand Badlands Ranch in 2022 and turned part of her property into an animal sanctuary.
Recently, her appearance at a charity event held at Mar-a-Lago sparked speculation about her political views, something she has largely avoided discussing publicly.
According to a source, the actress is cautious about entering political debates because it could affect how she is perceived in Hollywood.
“The reason Katherine avoids political talk is because she is already blacklisted with so many in Hollywood. If she brought politics into the situation, she would inevitably alienate herself further,” the source said.
They also emphasized that her attendance at the event was connected to a personal cause rather than politics. “Having been seen at Mar-a-Lago, people will talk, but the event was a fundraiser close to her heart. She didn’t go because of any political leanings,” the source shared.
Even so, the insider suggested rebuilding her standing in Hollywood could be difficult.
They said, “Katherine can’t seem to shake the attitude she brought to Hollywood when she was on top of the world. It’s an uphill battle right now. If she gets another chance, she will gladly play accordingly to have a comeback, but it isn’t going to happen soon since so many people don’t like her.”
The source also suggested that Heigl will likely continue avoiding political discussions in the future.
They shared, “Though she is outspoken when she has to be, she will continue avoiding politics and will not bash anyone whether they deserve it or not.”

Creator Shonda Rhimes hinted at how the season will wrap up for Teddy (Raver) and Owen (McKidd) in a statement last month.
“Over the years, we have had the privilege of watching Owen and Teddy’s love story evolve and deepen — two characters who always seem to find their way back to each other. It is both bittersweet and joyful to give this couple the happy ending their story deserves,” she teased. “Kevin and Kim bring extraordinary talent, nuance and heart to their roles as Owen and Teddy. Their contributions leave an indelible mark on Grey’s Anatomy, both in front of and behind the camera. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with them both and to see them shine.”
She concluded: “While we will all miss seeing them in the halls of Grey Sloan Memorial each day, I am excited to witness where Kim’s and Kevin’s journeys will take them in the future.”
Grey’s Anatomy has faced plenty of cast shake-ups this season alone. Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) chose to take a sabbatical after the shocking death of her colleague Monica (Natalie Morales). The show is already reducing the minimum guarantees for its veteran cast members to 14 out of its 18 episodes per season. While some of Grey’s Anatomy‘s consistent stars will be missing for four episodes, Scorsone’s absence was doubled.
Showrunner Meg Marinis previously hinted that not every character would be safe this season.
“But even in the last two seasons with what you saw this year, we had to reduce the cast a little bit [because of industry-wide budget cuts], and everybody has very passionate feelings about their favorite characters,” Marinis told The Hollywood Reporter in May 2025. “But if we can get the writers upset then we know we’re doing it right. It’s not as satisfying a story if people aren’t upset when someone leaves. It’s supposed to make people upset and sad, so I’m sure there’ll be some arguments. But I’ve been persuaded before to change my mind on things.”
Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET before streaming the next day on Hulu.

Jen Shah reached out “privately” to Mary Cosby to send her condolences after her son Robert Cosby Jr. died.
In a clip from her People interview that was posted via Instagram on Thursday, April 2, Shah, 52, said she reached out to her former Real Housewives of Salt Lake City costar, 53, following the tragic news.
“I did reach out to Mary. I privately reached out to Mary because I felt like that was the respectful thing to do,” Shah told the outlet. “ I sent her a card, you know, and just told her how deeply sorry that I was to hear about the passing of Robert Jr.”
Shah added that she told Mary that “she’s in my family’s prayers every day” after hearing the news.
“Even though, you know, I hadn’t talked to her for, obviously, a few years while I’ve been gone that I care about her, especially with right now, you know, what she’s going through,” Shah added. “I chose to reach out privately because I didn’t want it to be a distraction if I were to do it publicly.
Shah added that she was concerned that the focus might shift to be on her response to the news rather than the loss itself.
“I didn’t want it to become about me responding. I wanted it to remain about what Mary was going through and about her son and honoring his memory,” Shah explained.

Us Weekly confirmed on February 25, that Robert Jr. died at age 23 following a suspected overdose in his parents’ Utah home.
“Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord,” Mary shared in a statement to Us. “Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow.”
Robert Jr.’s addiction battle was featured on RHOSLC throughout the past two seasons. Viewers often applauded Mary for her candid approach to opening up about her son’s struggles.
Meanwhile, Shah was released from Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, on December 10, 2025.
Upon her release, Judge Sidney Stein also ordered Shah to serve five years of supervised release “to make sure you don’t end up committing another crime.”
Shah had been in custody since February 17, 2023, for her role in a long-running nationwide telemarketing fraud scheme.
In her first interview since her release, Shah explained to People on Wednesday, April 1, why she ultimately accepted wrongdoing and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in July 2022 after previously entering a not guilty plea.
“There were actual victims as a result of this conspiracy. I had never seen anything with my own eyes. That changed things for me,” she added. “I’m sorry. I’m accepting responsibility, and I’ve made it my mission to make sure that people are paid back.”

As The Shade Room previously reported, the FBI raided Pooh Shiesty’s family home in Cordova, Tennessee, on Wednesday, April 1. At the time, the target of the search remained unclear. However, Pooh’s dad, Lontrell Williams, was taken into custody in Memphis, Tennessee, while Pooh was taken into custody in Dallas. To note, Pooh had reportedly been in a residential facility after being released from prison in October 2025.
Furthermore, it was revealed that Pooh, his dad, and seven others were taken into custody for kidnapping and robbing Gucci Mane and two others at gunpoint. During the incident, a victim was reportedly forced into signing a label release contract, and, allegedly, someone was even “choked to the point of near unconsciousness.”

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, Emily shared that her daughter, Journey, whom she shares with Fabolous, is autistic and nonverbal. She said she chose to keep this part of her life private, not out of shame, but because “some Journeys feel more sacred.” Emily also revealed that Journey was born with processing challenges and a very rare congenital condition called PHACE syndrome. Emily went on to explain that Journey experiences the world differently and said supporting her has reshaped how she sees motherhood. “There have been moments of fear. Moments of learning. A casual afternoon turned tragic for a Brooklyn family after a 7-month-old baby girl, Kaori Patterson-Moore, was fatally shot. Kaori was in her stroller in East Williamsburg on Wednesday, April 1, when a man on the back of a moped opened fire and ended up hitting her.
NBC News reports that 7-month-old Kaori Patterson-Moore was an unintended victim of an alleged gang-related shooting. Her parents were pushing her stroller on Wednesday afternoon when two men on a moped pulled up around 1 p.m., and the man on the back opened fire.
After the gunshot rang out, Kaori’s mom ran into a nearby bodega. CBS News obtained video footage showing her screaming in the corner of a store when she realized Kaori had been hit by a stray bullet in the head. Then her father grabbed her stroller and rushed out of the store to take her to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors could not save Kaori, and she was pronounced dead roughly 25 minutes later, according to PEOPLE.
Per ABC News, police have the alleged shooter in custody, but they are still actively searching for the suspect who drove the moped. Authorities say they know the second suspect’s identity but have declined to release his name as the manhunt continues. The suspected gunman, 21-year-old Amuri Greene, will allegedly face charges of murder and two counts of attempted murder. He currently remains in the hospital with a broken leg, and his arraignment is pending.
CBS News spoke with Kaori’s parents after her tragic death. Her mom, Lianna Charles-Moore, said she’s heartbroken that she will never see her baby girl again. She added that Kaori had just learned her first word, “mama,” and now the family is planning her funeral.
“I can’t smell her, can’t kiss her. I can’t wake up and feed her her bottle. I can’t dress her. Everything I wanted to do with her, I can’t do with her anymore,” Lianna said.
Kaori’s grandmother, who’s a pastor, also reacted to the devastating tragedy. She called Kaori her little angel baby and pleaded for an end to gun violence.
“I tell everyone out there, gun violence is not the answer. It just keeps trickling down.” She continued, “It’s a baby. This is my little baby angel. She had nothing, she was innocent.”
