‘Widow’s Bay’ Just Set Up 9 Unexpected Season 2 Mysteries
Spoiler Alert: This list contains spoilers for the Widow’s Bay Season 1 finale.Widow’s Bay just wrapped up its first season on Apple TV, and the comedy horror has already been renewed for a second. This is good news because the series, which has earned critical acclaim, has left several unexpected mysteries to be solved as the story continues.
While it seems the curse on the small rural town has been lifted, events in the final episode suggest this may not be the case. Evil may still be lurking, and Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) has a complicated situation to navigate. It seems even more challenging now than ever that he’ll be able to turn this town into the next Martha’s Vineyard, as he was so adamant to do.
Is Evan Really the Last Living Descendent?
In the final episode of the perfect from start to finish fantasy show, Tom learns that his elderly assistant Ruth (K Callan) is actually the biological mother of his wife Lauren (Meredith Casey). Since Tom had earlier learned that Ruth’s linage could be traced back to the cursed Warren family, he believed Ruth was the last living descendent, the person who needed to die for the curse to be lifted. But with this knowledge, it means his son Evan (Kingston Rumi Southwick) would actually be a descendent as well.
Some theories, however, suspect that Rosemary (Dale Dickey) might have fudged the information for an unknown reason. She is the one who traced the Warren lineage, and it’s suspicious. She would have been around at the time Ruth was pregnant, so she may have known about her connection to Lauren. Whether this is true or not is a mystery that will undoubtedly be explored in the next season.
Is the Curse Really Over?
While the end suggests the curse is over, if Evan is indeed a living descendent, this means it probably isn’t. A good indication is when Evan and his friend find tunnels under the shelter where the town had been staying safe due to the storm. They find a sacrificial chamber, and when the custodian is locked inside, he seems to have gotten dragged into the cellar and was killed by some evil entity.
Once the townspeople discover Ken (Michael Malvesti) is missing, and if Evan discloses what he found, Tom and the others may realize that the horror is far from over. The storm may have ended, but there is probably a lot more to come.
Can Evan Leave Widow’s Bay?
Tom will have a challenging situation trying to explain to Evan that it might not be safe for him to leave the island. He’ll have to reveal at some point that this is why Evan was never able to leave this entire time: Tom was worried about his son, but now so more than ever. While he bought tickets for them to see a game in Boston, Tom will likely be hesitant to try and leave given what he now knows about his son’s lineage.
The question is not only if Evan is able to leave Widow’s Bay without being sucked into an abyss, but if Tom will even try to take him out. Or will Evan try to go on his own if his father doesn’t tell him the truth? Evan could hold the key to ending a curse. Since the show is unlikely to kill the character, he may play a more integral role in the second season of the best new Apple TV show in 2026.
Did Richard Really Die At Sea?
Episode 6’s “Our History”, one of the best episodes of the season, explores the backstory of Richard Warren (Hamish Linklater) and his new wife Sarah (Betty Gilpin), and his possession by some devil-like force that resulted in strange illnesses, disappearances, and death in the early 1700s. After digging Richard up to find him still alive in his grave, Tom and Wyck (Stephen Root) set out to release him at sea in a supposed “Dead Zone,” believing this is the only way to end the curse. They succeed, and he appears to have died.
But the question remains if he is really dead. If Evan is one of his descendants and even being buried for centuries didn’t kill Richard, it’s possible Richard could still be alive and return in some form. Before being set out to sea, he changed his mind about dying and Tom had to fight him to get him back in the coffin. So, it’s possible he’s not dead at all.
What Is Wyck’s Full History?
Through the entire series, Wyck was one of the most vocal townspeople about the curse, having witnessed it with his own eyes. He reveals to Tom while they’re out on the boat that decades prior, he went out on a boat trip with his childhood friend. The waters became violent and as his friend was fighting for his life, Wyck let him go to save himself. He has lived with this guilt ever since.
It seems there’s more to Wyck’s story than he is letting on, and that could be revealed in Season 2. He’s a mysterious character who knows a lot about the history of the curse, even having saved Tom from the horrifying Sea Hag. Wyck’s knowledge ould be far greater than we realize.
Is Tom’s Wife Still Alive?
One of the biggest mysteries in Widow’s Bay, one of the best Apple TV originals, centers around Tom’s wife, who is believed to be dead. But after finding photos of her with him as a child, Evan is devastated to learn that his mother was alive for some time after his birth. She didn’t die in childbirth as he was told. Tom explains that while she was there in body, something happened to her, and she was not there in mind. She claimed to have lost her sight after leaving the island, which is what happened to one of Richard Warren’s children as the boat got further away when Sarah tried to escape with them. Lauren was eventually sent to an institution where she sent troubling letters, suggesting she had completely lost her mind.
Given that she’s a descendent of the Warrens, it’s likely that whatever happened to her has something to do with the curse. Tom says she had a stroke that left her mentally unstable, and that she later died of an aneurysm. But it’s possible she didn’t die, and Tom continues to lie to Evan to spare him the pain of seeing his mother in the condition she is in. Could this have something to do with the basement of Tom’s house and why he was on edge when he thought Evan had gone down there?
Who Will Be Sacrificed Next?
In the final episode, after Ken disappears and is presumably killed, the storm is over. But then the church bell rings eight times. Based on the video Dale (Jeff Hiller) watched that claimed “one soul for each bell toll,” this supposedly signals that eight more sacrifices are required to keep the island happy. If Rosemary is right and Evan is the last living descendent, the curse has not been lifted and the deaths will continue. What’s more, if Richard had been buried all this time until Wyck exhumed him, who was fulfilling the pact while he was underground?
How this situation is navigated will be important, since Tom now has to balance the idea that residents will die, and the only way to stop it would be the sacrifice his own son. There’s no way he would do that, which leads back to who will perish and how. Most important is if Tom, Wyck, and the others can find a way to stop the curse without anyone else having to be sacrificed.
How Will They Explain Ruth’s Death?
Tom was reluctant but willing to kill Ruth, knowing that sacrificing her life would save the rest of the town. In his eyes, she’s old anyway and likely didn’t have much time left. This idea is squashed when he visits her and finds her on the treadmill in her home, very much still spritely and active. Even though he secretly poisons her tea, he backs out at the last minute once he realizes that she’s his mother-in-law, mother of his late wife and thus Evan’s biological grandmother, which explained why she was always so willing to babysit him.
But before Tom can save her, Bechir (Kevin Carroll) arrives and shoots her to end the curse. Bechir, learning the story from Patricia (Kate O’Flynn), understands he has to protect his town, and his pregnant wife. She’s about to give birth, and if she delivers the baby here, they will never be able to leave with the curse still intact. Still, how will Bechir and Tom explain Ruth’s death? She’s old enough for them to suggest that she died of natural causes. But if someone were to find her body and the bullet hole, they would certainly have questions.
What’s Going On With the Inn?
We know from the series, which is on track to be named one of the best horror comedy shows of all time, that when Tom spends the night at the creepy local inn, weird things happen there. He chats with, drinks, even plays a board game with another guest only to be near attacked by this man later in a clown suit, realizing he was never real. When the innkeeper, Kurt (Neil Casey), is told to go into the captain’s suite where Tom is staying and close the door, he is afraid to do it. Once opened, he acts as though much more than 10 seconds have passed. When he is asked to do it again, this time for 30 seconds, he requests food. He clearly knows something weird in that room, like the passage of time is different.
This was never explored further, which opens questions about lapses in time, time travel, or something else to do with space and time. There’s a lot more we need to know about Breakwater Inn and what sorts of things have gone on, and do go on, there. Also, why did none of this happen to Tom while he stayed in that room?

Mel Gibson’s Most Divisive Movie Officially Returns With New 2026 Release
Whether it’s entirely behind the camera on the religious-themed World War II movie Hacksaw Ridge or as director, producer, and star of the multi-Academy Award-winning Braveheart, Hollywood icon Mel Gibson is never far from an epic feat of filmmaking. In 2004, the headline-maker delivered the most controversial film of his career so far with The Passion of the Christ, which fueled widespread debate due to graphic violence and even accusations of antisemitism from those who believed the film blamed Jewish authorities for the crucifixion.
Despite this controversy, or perhaps even powered by it, The Passion of the Christ was an enormous box office hit, even becoming the highest-grossing biblical and Christian-themed movie of all time. In total, against a reported production budget of just $25 million, the film returned an eye-watering $622 million worldwide. Now, 22 years later, The Passion of the Christ is officially returning to theaters between September 10 and September 17, courtesy of Lionsgate and Fathom Entertainment.
The film is newly remastered in stunning 4K with Dolby Atmos sound, and features a new color pass supervised by original Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Caleb Deschanel. This chronicle of the final hours of Jesus’ life rocked a generation of moviegoers more than two decades ago, and now an entirely new group of viewers will have the chance to see this moment in cinema history on the big screen. It has now been announced that tickets for this special return to theaters are officially on sale, with purchase available via this link.
A ‘Passion of the Christ’ Sequel Is Also on the Way
The Passion of the Christ re-release will also feature a special treat for theatergoers in the form of a sneak peek at The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One, the first half of Gibson’s ambitious sequel to the controversial 2004 original. Originally scheduled for release on March 26, 2027, the sequel was postponed to May 6, 2027, with Day Drinker, an action thriller marking the headline Hollywood return of Johnny Depp, taking its place. The sequel is being described as Gibson’s “most ambitious filmmaking achievement” and “the largest faith film ever brought to the screen.”
The Passion of the Christ is officially returning to theaters, with tickets available to purchase now. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for more stories.

Spider-Man Producer Asked Tom Holland and Zendaya Not to Date
Spider-Man: Brand New Day producer Amy Pascal confirmed she asked Tom Holland and Zendaya not to date when they took over the iconic roles of Peter Parker and MJ.
“Tobey [Maguire] and Kirsten [Dunst] dated. Andrew [Garfield] and Emma [Stone] dated,” Pascal said while speaking with BBC News in an Instagram video shared Thursday, July 30. “MJ and Peter just always fall in love. There’s nothing you can do about it.”
Holland, 30, and Zendaya, 29, joined the superhero universe in 2017 with the premiere of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Rumors quickly swirled that a romance was brewing between the pair off camera. The costars initially kept their relationship private before it was confirmed with PDA photos in 2021.
Four years later, news broke that Holland and Zendaya were engaged after the actress was seen wearing a diamond ring on her left hand at the 2025 Golden Globes. The couple quietly tied the knot — a secret that was spilled by Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach earlier this year.
“The wedding has already happened. You missed it,” he teased to Access Hollywood in March. “It’s very true.”
Holland finally addressed the wedding rumors during an Esquire UK profile published in June. When asked if he had to explain anything to his family about the viral AI-generated photos of him and Zendaya at a wedding, the actor quipped, “No, because they were all there.”
The Impossible star previously opened up about why the pair prefer to keep their relationship out of the spotlight, telling The Hollywood Reporter in 2023, “Our relationship is something that we are incredibly protective of and we want to keep as sacred as possible. We don’t think that we owe it to anyone, it’s our thing, and it has nothing to do with our careers.”
Since tying the knot, the couple — and frequent costars — have shared more rare insight into their lives at home. A second wedding ceremony, however, likely won’t be in the cards.
“I don’t think so,” Roach told Complex in a recent interview. “I think that people should congratulate them. It’s two young, beautiful, successful people that are in love, and they had a private wedding, and they got away with it. And I think people should just, you know, congratulate them.”
Roach further shared his appreciation for Holland and Zendaya’s love story while attending the premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in Los Angeles.
“If these are two people that you look up to or that you love their work, just celebrate them being together and happy,” he said, adding that any rumors about a second wedding are “definitely not true.”

Cristiano Ronaldo And Georgina Stir Wedding Chatter
Could Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez be gearing up to walk down the aisle? That is what fans think after a recent social media clue.
The long-time lovebirds, who share a blended family of five kids, are yet to officially say ‘I do’ almost one year after the soccer legend popped the big question in style. However, it seems the time is finally here.
Wedding rumors have been on the rise following Ronaldo’s exit from the recently concluded 2026 World Cup, where rival Messi advanced to the final.

In a recent Instagram update, Rodriguez gave fans a peek at her and Ronaldo’s luxury getaway to Majorca. The numerous slides showed the power couple aboard a mega yacht as they watched the ocean and traveled from location to location in the soccer star’s private jet.
One particular frame, however, caught viewers’ attention. While enjoying a meal aboard the jet, Ronaldo and Rodriguez posed wearing huge matching diamond rings and watches, with her having gold detailing.
For the outing, the model stunned in a low-cut black tank top from her brand that flaunted her cleavage underneath an unbuttoned jacket, paired with blue skinny jeans and black stiletto pumps. She added a pop of color with a bright red baseball cap.
Although the former Manchester United player’s face wasn’t shown in the carousel, he was photographed walking his children to the waiting jet.
In the accompanying caption, she appreciated supporters before adding, “These days I am enjoying a little vacation, inspiring myself and creating with a lot of excitement.”
Speculations Of A Portugal Wedding This Weekend Surface
Fans wasted no time camping in the comment section, showering praises and seeking answers. “Georgina, you and our Cristiano Ronaldo are getting married on Saturday?” one admirer wondered.
This comes amid rumors that the couple is set to exchange vows at the Quinta da Regaleira estate in Sintra, a cultural landscape. According to the Daily Mail, a Portuguese TV host fueled the speculation, claiming the soccer legend booked the venue.
However, the famous tourist attraction site is open to the public, casting doubts on the report. The beloved artist is yet to address the rumors or reveal any plans for an upcoming wedding ceremony.
Inside Ronaldo And Rodriguez’s Intimate Proposal
As one of the most famous faces on earth, every move Ronald makes is watched with millions of eyes.
Such was the case when the Portugal native broke the internet last August when his model girlfriend revealed to the world that she was now a fiancée.
As reported by The Blast, Rodriguez took to social media to share the swell news and blind fans with a photo of her gigantic oval-cut diamond ring. The image was taken in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where the athlete plays, with the lovers in bed together when they took the leap to their new lives.
“Sí, quiero. En esta y en todas mis vidas,” she wrote in the caption, which translates to “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives.
The Lovebirds Celebrated An Emotional Win

Given that Ronaldo and Rodriguez have remained by each other’s side through thick and thin, it came as no surprise when the reality star had an emotional reaction to a recent milestone.
According to The Blast, in May, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner achieved his longtime desire to take home Saudi Pro League glory after Al-Nassr defeated Damac FC in a 4-1 victory.
During the title-defining match, Ronaldo performed at his peak, delivering two goals, after which he broke down in tears of joy. This was his first win since moving his soccer career to Saudi Arabia three years ago.
Following the game, Ronaldo gave fans a peek into his lavish celebration, which included a snap of him posing on the field with his kids and wife-to-be.

The soccer player’s family vacation comes on the heels of Ronaldo making headlines for a controversial move following his World Cup failure.
Per The Blast, the 41-year-old cooked up quite the storm when he liked an Instagram post that accused the sports regulatory body, FIFA, of corrupt practices during the tournament.
The move undoubtedly spoke volumes, with many interpreting it as a jab at his longtime rival, Messi, who played in the competition until the end.

Man Detained in Nancy Guthrie Case Threatens to Sue Police
A man detained and subsequently released in the investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie is seeking $2.5 million from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department — or he may sue.
An attorney for Carlos Palazuelos and two others filed a notice of claim on Monday, July 27, addressed to the department, Sheriff Chris Nanos and Detective Eric Gieron, alleging that Palazuelos had been wrongfully arrested at gunpoint on February 10 and that a search on his family’s property led to “significant property damage.”
The notice, obtained by AZ Family on Thursday, July 30, claimed Palazuelos was arrested and held “without probable cause for approximately seven to eight hours.” The notice alleged “Carlos’ arrest was made in a public fashion that was intended to damage Carlos’ reputation and subject him to humiliation and suspicion by implicating Carlos in the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie.”
At the same time, a search warrant was executed on Palazuelos’ family home, owned by Josefina Maddox, where a family member, Daniel Maddox, was placed in handcuffs by police, who “led him outside to a van and ordered him to sit on the van’s running board,” according to the notice. “Deputies held Daniel under guard at the van for several hours, where he was not free to leave.”
Palazuelos is seeking $2.5 million, and Daniel is seeking $500,000, alleging assault, false arrest, negligence, defamation and false imprisonment. Josefina is seeking $250,000, accusing police of trespass.
Palazuelos “was falsely arrested for a crime that he had nothing to do with in a public fashion. Sheriff Nanos, Detective Gieron and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department know that Carlos is an innocent man who had nothing to do with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie,” the claim alleged. “Despite that, they have refused to clear Carlos’ name and have forced him to live under a cloud of suspicion since the time of his arrest.”
Us has reached out to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department for comment.
On February 10, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department told Us that it had “detained a subject during a traffic stop south of Tucson,” adding, “The subject is currently being questioned in connection to the Nancy Guthrie investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.” The department said at the time that it was also conducting a “court-authorized search” of a home in Rio Rico, Arizona.
After Palazuelos was released, he claimed in an interview with ABC15 Arizona’s Ford Hatchett that his car had been pulled over by police and he was told he was being “detained for kidnapping.”
“I asked, ‘The kidnapping of who?’ and they told me this lady … I don’t know her name,” Palazuelos said at the time. “I told [officers], ‘I work in Tucson for GLS. I might have delivered a package to your house, but I never kidnapped anybody.’”
Palazuelos said he was ultimately told he was “free to go” after answering the officers’ questions.
Nancy, the mother of Today show cohost Savannah Guthrie, has been missing for nearly six months. Police believe the 84-year-old was abducted from her home outside of Tucson, Arizona, in the early hours of February 1. No suspects have been identified.

Man Arrested For Threats To Judge Ashlee Cole
A man is facing up to five years in prison after allegedly sending death threats to Judge Ashlee Cole on Facebook. Joseph Alfredo Vasquez Dumarce, according to the Sacramento Bee, is in police custody on federal charges. Her husband, Dr. Benjamin Hudson, recently offered a $50,000 reward for details leading to an arrest in Nolan Wells‘ death investigation. He doubled down on getting death threats. His son and Ashlee’s stepson, Warren Hudson, traveled with Nolan to Horn Island on July 4.

Details About California Man’s Arrest For Death Threats
Joseph Alfredo Vasquez Dumarce was identified as the person behind the @yaeyae962 account that went after Ashlee Cole. The FBI task force, Safe Streets, tracked down Dumarce through his email IP addresses and linked them to the username. In the charging documents, he’s accused of threatening that a package would arrive and “blow” her away when she saw it.
“It’s probably best to have the boys there to see as well,” he allegedly threatened. “So much blood everywhere.” “But yours will be quick I promise.” Additional messages said her sons would be “strangled.”
Ashlee Cole & Family Have Been Speaking Out About The Death Threats
Judge Ashlee Cole, her husband, and her stepson have all been addressing the threats. She reportedly shared screenshots earlier this month that included graphic death threats. This week, Dr. Hudson also said his family has been “living through a nightmare” since Nolan Wells’ passing became national news. Also, his son, Warren Hudson, had a three-part interview with YouTuber Officer Tatum about July 4. He ran down a timeline from loading at the dock to the return of Nolan’s phone.

Mahershala Ali Speaks Out on Marvel’s Canceled Blade Movie
After years of delays, rewrites, and uncertainty surrounding Marvel Studios’ long troubled Blade reboot, Mahershala Ali has finally addressed the project’s cancellation in his most candid comments yet.
Speaking with GQ while promoting his new film Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, Ali made it clear that he’s no longer dwelling on the failed Marvel project and has found peace with how everything unfolded.
“If they wanted to do it, we would’ve done it,” Ali told GQ. “So I have to move on, and I have moved on.”
The Oscar winner was first announced as Marvel’s new Blade during San Diego Comic Con in 2019, a reveal that instantly became one of the MCU’s biggest casting announcements. However, after multiple directors departed, several writers took over the screenplay, and the film was repeatedly delayed, Marvel ultimately shelved the project. Earlier this month, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige admitted he felt “like a gigantic loser and a failure” that the film never came together.
Despite the disappointment, Ali says the experience wasn’t a complete loss.
“The best way I can answer this question is, when I look at what is for me, is it was either this or that and I’ll take this. No offense to them,” Ali explained. “I’ve been doing this professionally for pushing 30 years now, and one thing I’ve learned is that what is for you is for you and what is not is not.”
Mahershala Ali Blade Concept
Instead of starring as Marvel’s vampire hunter, Ali reunited with former Blade director Bassam Tariq to create the original action drama Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. The actor believes the film ultimately became a more rewarding creative experience than the Marvel reboot could have been.
“When I look at this and Blade, I couldn’t have done both,” Ali said. “The reason this even exists is because that project fell apart… I was able to use those skills that I had been working on for over a year training for Blade. In that way, I feel creatively redeemed on some level.”
Ali also acknowledged that the first teaser for the new film intentionally included him wielding a sword, something many fans viewed as a nod to the character they never got to see him play.
“I’m glad we were able to satisfy that and kind of move on,” he said, adding that while audiences may have expected a big budget superhero spectacle, the smaller scale project allowed them to tell a much deeper and more personal story.
Mahershala Ali and Kevin Fiege [getty]
As for whether fans should continue asking him about Marvel’s canceled reboot, Ali made his position perfectly clear.
“I’m good,” he said with a laugh. “Again, you had me under contract, they have billions of dollars, if they wanted to do the movie, we would’ve done the movie. So we’re not doing the movie… I feel ready to move on from the Blade questions. Those questions are for them. They didn’t want to do it, so they should answer that question.”
For many Marvel fans, Ali’s comments offer long awaited closure on one of the MCU’s most infamous canceled projects. While his version of Blade never made it to the big screen, the actor has made it clear he’s looking ahead, not back.

Ian Bohen Teases Dutton Ranch Appearance With Lainey Wilson
Ian Bohen is known for his role as Ryan on Yellowstone — but is there a chance he could reprise the character on Dutton Ranch with his onscreen love interest Lainey Wilson?
“It would be interesting to see where Abby and Ryan are within that world,” Bohen, 49, exclusively told Us at the red carpet premiere for Lioness, another of Taylor Sheridan‘s hit Paramount+ series, on Wednesday, July 29, in New York City.
Bohen didn’t rule out the possibility.
“They got one season under their belt and they’re figuring out their future and their arc for the next several seasons,” he noted. “Maybe there’ll be a spot for those two people to show up and contribute. That’d be great.”
The hit Paramount+ franchise started with Sheridan’s hit series Yellowstone, which premiered in 2018.
Fans got to know Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser’s characters, Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, who had a decades-long relationship enduring peaks and pitfalls. The original show came to an end in 2024, later expanding its universe with Luke Grimes‘ CBS show Marshals and now Dutton Ranch.
Bohen, for his part, has continued to work with Sheridan, 56, on other TV projects. He joined season 3 of Lioness, which premieres on August 2.

Created by Sheridan, Lioness is a spy thriller that follows the leader of a CIA team that enlists female operatives — known as Lionesses — to go undercover in the war on terror.
“Taylor’s words are extraordinary — of course — on the page. As far as an on the day collaborator, he’s attentive and he listens and he’s a very good communicator,” the actor told Us. “When you talk with him about what you’re doing on set and a scene and a direction, he makes you feel like you’re important.”
Bohen called getting to keep appearing in Sheridan’s shows a “treat,” adding, “It’s like working with a really good buddy. So I’m blessed to continue to work with him and I look forward to continuing that in the future.”
When asked by Us whether Bohen would want to be in Sheridan’s other existing shows — such as Landman — Bohen showed his support.
“From your lips to God’s ears,” he said. “But also who knows what the future holds.”
Lioness returns to Paramount+ on Sunday, August 2.

Tom Selleck Reignites CBS Feud With Surprising Admission
Tom Selleck is renewing his criticism of CBS over the cancellation of “Blue Bloods,” revealing that the cast had already sacrificed part of their salaries to keep the long-running drama alive. The 81-year-old actor claimed the ensemble agreed to a 25% pay reduction despite the show remaining one of broadcast television’s strongest performers. Selleck, who portrayed New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan throughout the show’s run, argued that neither the cast nor the story had run out of steam when CBS ended the series in 2024.

Appearing on Ted Danson’s “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast, Selleck revealed the extent of the cast’s efforts to prevent the cancellation.
“The real truth to that is in the last year of [the series], at our last family dinner, everybody wanted to come back. We’d already taken a 25% cut in salary,” Selleck said, adding that they had already “done all sorts of things to keep the show going.”
Selleck was reportedly earning approximately $200,000 per episode before the reduction. Across a traditional 22-episode season, that rate would have amounted to roughly $4.4 million. His reported salary dropped to approximately $150,000 per episode during the final season. Despite those financial concessions, CBS moved forward with concluding “Blue Bloods” after 14 seasons.
Tom Selleck Says The Show Was ‘Certainly Not Out Of Ideas’

Selleck also pushed back against any suggestion that the procedural drama had reached the natural end of its creative life. The actor said “Blue Bloods” was “certainly not out of ideas” and pointed to its enduring popularity as evidence that the series could have continued.
“Out of the top 100 shows on broadcast television, Blue Bloods was number six in our fifteenth year. Nobody wanted to leave. It may be some kind of record to have the same cast intact for that length of time,” he said.
The drama premiered on September 24, 2010, and went on to become CBS’ second-longest-running scripted series behind “NCIS.” Selleck previously expressed similar frustration during a 2024 interview as the final episodes approached.
“During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for ‘Blue Bloods’ but about it still being wildly successful,” he said. “In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were number 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re #6!”
Actor Believes ‘Blue Bloods’ Was Taken For Granted

According to Selleck, the show’s consistent performance may have ultimately caused the network to undervalue it. “My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go,” he explained.
Selleck noted that “Blue Bloods” reliably attracted an audience despite airing on Friday nights, a time slot that networks have traditionally viewed as difficult.
“I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’ I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe,” he said.
The actor admitted that he was still processing how such a dependable show could be brought to an end while viewers and cast members remained invested. “So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out,” Selleck said.
Tom Selleck Struggled To Adjust After The Finale

For 14 years, Selleck regularly traveled between his California ranch and the East Coast to film “Blue Bloods.” That routine ended abruptly once the final episode was completed, leaving the actor momentarily expecting to return to work as usual.
“I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while,” he recalled.
Selleck reportedly returned to his California ranch with his wife, Jillie Mack, following the conclusion of the series. The actor remained confident that viewers were not prepared to lose the Reagan family.
“CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it,” he said at the time. “The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year. We’re certainly not out of ideas.”
CBS Called The Series A ‘Beloved’ Part Of Its Legacy

CBS Entertainment and CBS Studios acknowledged the show’s popularity in a joint statement announcing its conclusion. “Blue Bloods will forever be a beloved part of CBS’s legacy,” the network executives said. “It ruled Friday nights with unprecedented dominance since its premiere and established itself as a pillar of our winning lineup with an exceptionally devoted fan base.”
“We’ll be forever grateful to the legendary Leonard Goldberg for developing this signature series and to the amazing cast led by Tom Selleck, who America embraced as a family and watched as welcomed guests at the Reagan dinner table,” they added.
However, those words have done little to ease Selleck’s frustration over the decision, or his concerns about life without the show’s steady income. “You know, hopefully I keep working enough to hold on to the place,” Selleck previously said of his 63-acre ranch.
When asked whether that was seriously a concern if he stopped working, he replied, “That’s always an issue, if I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”
