Get more from your hair dryer: 3 attachments to start using
Hair diffusers, concentrator nozzles, and other hair dryer attachments take up valuable space in your bathroom cabinet. If you’re not using them now, you might be inclined to get rid of those tools and reclaim your space. Don’t do it.
Attachments expand the capabilities of your hair dryer, which should help you maximize its value. You know that cost-per-wear concept I’m regularly harping on? You can apply a related concept, cost-per-use, to your beauty devices. And learning how to use your hair dryer attachments is one place to start.

What hair dryer attachments do
Hair dryer attachments control where the air goes. Without one, the dryer’s hot air blows all over the place. This can cause inconsistent styling results, even when you’re using the same dryer, brush, and product.
Controlled air flow dries your hair faster and, generally, produces more precise results. It can also minimize heat damage. When the style takes shape quickly, you don’t have to pass over the same sections repeatedly, which is a common cause of hair damage.
The three main attachments are the concentrator nozzle, diffuser, and comb.
1. Concentrator nozzle
Many stylists use the concentrator nozzle by default. It’s flat, narrow shape focuses airflow into a tight stream, which helps with smoothing and straightening. If a salon-style blowout is what you’re after, this attachment gets you there.
How to use
Concentrator nozzles work well on straight, wavy, or frizz-prone hair. To use one:
- Dry about three-quarters of the moisture from your hair using only your fingers and the dryer.
- Clip your hair into sections.
- Work through each section with a brush, pointing the nozzle down along the hair shaft. Aiming down keeps the cuticle flat, so you get that smooth and shiny finish. Hold the dryer no closer than 6 inches from your hair.
- Finish with a cool shot. A cool blast of air at the end seals the style and adds shine.

2. Diffuser
The diffuser is the round attachment with prongs. It spreads airflow across a wider area with reduced air pressure and lower direct heat. This attachment defines natural curls and waves, while minimizing frizz. When you dry curly or wavy hair without a diffuser, the dryer can blast your curls into unruliness.
A diffuser can also add volume to straight hair.
How to use
To use a diffuser:
- Start with clean, detangled hair.
- Apply styling product.
- Set the dryer to a low heat.
- Cup sections of hair into the diffuser and lift it to your scalp.
- Dry each section for 30 seconds or so.
- Avoid handling your hair while it’s drying to minimize frizz.
- Finish with a cool shot for hold and shine.

3. Comb attachment
The comb attachment, sometimes called a pik, is a good choice for thick or textured hair. It smooths roots, reduces tangles, and leaves hair looking neat without a lot of effort. It also works nicely on hair that tends to get knotty when wet.
How to use
To use a comb attachment:
- Divide damp hair into sections.
- Glide the comb from roots to ends using steady, gentle movements.
How to choose the right attachment
The attachment you reach for on any given day will depend on what your hair needs. The concentrator nozzle provides sleekness, the diffuser enhances curls, and the comb tames a thick, textured mane.
Also, the nature of your hair will dictate which attachments should be taking up space in your cabinet. You might have all three because your dryer came with a full set of hair dryer attachments (as some GHD dryers do, for example). But if you have straight, thin hair, you don’t need that comb. You can safely give it away to a friend.
Tips for success with attachments
Protecting your hair from heat damage is a proactive styling tip — because the more damaged your hair is, the more unruly it gets. This can kick off that vicious cycle where you keep applying more heat to control your hair and continued damage makes it more uncontrollable. Follow these strategies for style without over-drying.
- Use a heat protectant.
- Work in sections.
- Avoid repeated heat passes over the same section.
- Use the lowest heat setting possible to get the results you want.

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
My current favorite jeans are from Frame, but I hadn’t spent much time looking into their other options until I came across this gorgeous silk crepe de chine top. I love the fabric-covered buttons, and the gathered sleeves look so chic.
I’d pair this army green color with some light gray trousers for the office and some great denim for the weekend.
The top is $100, marked down from $328, at the Outnet and comes in sizes XS-XL. It’s also available in navy.
P.S. If you’re using Chrome and get an “Access Denied” error for the link for the top, you should have better luck with incognito mode, Firefox, or Edge.

Five Sandals I’m Loving for Summer
There’s a moment when the weather shifts and my whole approach to getting dressed shifts with it. Closed-toe shoes get nudged to the back of the closet, sandals move front and center, and suddenly they’re the only thing I want to reach for. I like keeping a small lineup of distinct pairs in rotation, each one setting its own tone depending on where the day is headed. Here are the five styles I’ve been wearing most.
Statement Wedges
Shape leads. Carved bases, natural textures, satin finishes, even lace-up ties—each pair feels slightly different but all sit with presence. The height changes how everything falls, especially with longer hemlines or anything fluid through the leg.
Beaded Sandals
Surface takes focus. Beading scattered or tightly placed across the foot creates variation, almost like pattern built into the shoe. Some feel tonal and subtle, others introduce color in small, precise ways that draw the eye downward.
Gold Metallics
A layer of light. Straps curve and wrap in warm metallic tones, sometimes smooth, sometimes braided or embellished. They move with the foot and catch light differently depending on the angle, creating a kind of soft dimension.
Jelly Sandals
Material leads here in a more playful direction. Glossy finishes, sheer straps, and saturated tones create a slick, almost glass-like effect across the foot. It feels nostalgic but reworked in a way that’s more deliberate, especially when the color runs bold or the transparency is pushed further.
Colorful Sandals
Color takes center stage. Striped uppers, multi-tone straps, and vivid palettes create a striking, almost graphic effect across the foot. It feels spirited and expressive, introducing contrast and a sense of play through bold combinations and unexpected pairings.

Coffee Break: Slim Card Case

I’ve been pretty happy with my slim (and cheap!) RFID wallet/card case — but this card case from Tusk is mighty tempting.
I love the contrasting colors — in the pictured wallet, it’s green on the outside, lavender/light blue on the inside, and then has more colorful details behind the plastic card sleeve).
So fun, and it seems really functional, as well as being easy to find in any bag. The card case comes in 6 colors for $108 at Nordstrom. The brand has a lot of similar offerings to look through.

What Beauty Product Makes the Most Difference For You?
This post may contain affiliate links and Corporette® may earn commissions for purchases made through links in this post. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Here’s a fun little question for today: what beauty product makes the most difference for you — and do you wear it often?
I ask it like that because mascara makes a big difference for me, but my sensitive eyes honestly hate wearing mascara — so it’s an occasional thing for me. I was just watching an interview with Your Rich BFF and she mentioned that manicures are irrelevant to her (same, girl) but that she will definitely find time in her budget and schedule for her lashes.
So, setting aside mascara (or lashes!), I would say that these are my top 5 (not counting skin products like tretinoin and sunscreen!)
- Eyebrows – the older I get the more I need the eyebrows to frame my face. Some women go for prominent eyeglasses; my current daily glasses are pretty thin metallic blue frames so the eyebrows are essential. (I almost exclusively wear blue eyeglasses these days… but I feel like I may be getting into little red eyeglasses territory also.) Annoyingly I’m still trying to find the best product for me at the moment — my beloved EcoBrow is just a shade too dark, and the cooler taupes are a shade too light. I finally broke down and bought a gray/brunette pencil and I like the color but not this exact formulation. (If you have suggestions I’d love to hear them!)
- Blush – Again, I’m super pale, so I need a little bit of added color on my face. I feel like it gives my face dimension and, well, that “alive!” feeling we all love. Lately I’ve been reaching for my Nars Orgasm liquid one the most, but I still wear a lot of the other ones I’ve posted about in the past.
- Concealer – Yes, third! At least, I feel like this is third for me — it still makes a really huge difference, but not as much as the first two. Lately I’ve been liking this one.
- (Eye cream – I always think about how some scientist/beauty bloggers made a big deal about how eye creams aren’t different than any other face cream, and your eyes don’t need anything special… but I do feel like my delicate eye area can “take” the richer cream on a more regular basis than the rest of my face, and having done an eye cream first really makes a difference with concealer application. I ran out of my favorite eye cream so I’ve been going through some other ones that I’ve acquired from random places before purchasing my favorite again.)
- Tinted lip gloss (or sheer lipstick) – this is always my finishing step before I meet people, and the one thing I always have on me so I can reapply it as needed. My latest favorite is Chantecaille’s, but I also reach for Dior Addict, NARS Afterglow, or my older Chubby sticks pretty regularly.
Readers, over to you — what beauty product makes the most difference for you?

The Layers That Make A Summer Outfit Feel Finished
Missoni Top, Reformation Tank, Doen Shorts, Chanel Flats (old, similar here), Call Me By Your Name Bag, Jenna Blake & Emily P Wheeler Necklaces
Summer might not seem like the season for layering, but that is exactly why it is worth being intentional about the pieces you add to bring dimension to a look. A shirt worn open, a poncho slipped over pants, a kaftan you have been waiting all season to wear, or a sarong tied before a beach day can shift the entire mood of an outfit before anything else is added.
What I love most about layering during the summer is how naturally the most unexpected color and texture combinations begin to happen. This edit brings together pieces that add movement, color, and shape to something otherwise simple, with accessories that just fall into place. Jewelry with subtle sparkle, a woven bag or sun hat, a crochet headscarf, each adding its own small point of view.
This is where the fun comes in: a chevron print beside a fuchsia basket bag, a bright bead against a translucent green layer. Nothing has to match perfectly. It just takes a bit of imagination to make summer dressing feel joyful, considered, and sun-drenched.
