Wednesday’s Workwear Report: Rollneck Reversible Cardigan
This post may contain affiliate links and Corporette® may earn commissions for purchases made through links in this post. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.
I am totally delighted by the idea of this reversible rollneck cardigan from J.Crew. I haven’t tried it on in person yet, but the brand claims that it can be worn with the buttons in the front as a cardigan or flipped around as a regular sweater. As someone who wore a lot of J.Crew in the late ’90s/early 2000s, the familiar rollneck style feels like a fun dip into nostalgia, but the cable knit at the sides feels like a fun update.
From the reviews, it sounds like you might want to size up if you want something a little more roomy.
The sweater is $118 at J.Crew and comes in sizes XXS-3X and in four other colors.

September Forecast – Julia Berolzheimer
September is already looking to be a whirlwind of a month! We’ve had a handful of things happen that made us pivot for most of August. However, most of September has been planned out of months, so we’ve been expecting much of this big push. Right now we have about 10 different things happening with our home, packed kids schedules, a whole lot of travel and two collaborations coming together! Grateful and overwhelmed are coexisting permanently in my life right now. Here’s a look at my month again…
What We’re Doing
- We are starting the month with a short but relaxing long weekend to Blackberry Mountain with some friends.
- We’re going to fashion week! It’s been years since I’ve attended any of the fashion weeks and I am invigorated with excitement. I have a deep appreciation for the runway shows– getting to view the collections up close, seeing the vision behind the most creative minds who inspire what we wear, what we buy and how we define our style for the seasons ahead. I’m thrilled to share as much as I can! I’ll be attending NYFW and Paris Fashion Week at the end of the month.
- I love seeing all of the fall collections come out. I’ve been saving pieces that have caught my eye since the fall/winter runways shows and recently shared my fall moodboard here on Trade Offs.
- I somehow missed the memo years ago about the Throne of Glass series and am just now reading them. I finished Crown of Midnight last month and am now starting Heir of Fire.
- I’ve been back in the gym last month weight lifting again after taking most of the summer off. It feels good to have sore muscles again!
- We have two collections we’re shooting in Charleston this month– more sneak peeks coming in our private chat on Substack (we’ll also be posting our September ‘Ask Us Anything’ there, too).
What I’m Wearing
- This purple shirt has been on repeat, as well as the skirt. See daily looks here, and here.
- A bag that’s under $600, beautifully made, and I’ve been reaching for over and over. Vanessa Bruno knocked it out of the park with this suede fringe shoulder bag.
- Not outdoors, but this sweater has been my go-to grab for that air conditioning chill.
- This Ulla Johnson set (top & shorts) is so good irl.
- I wear this grey tee all the time. It’s on the pricier side for a simple t-shirt, so I found a few good alternatives if you’re on the hunt. This one is half the price and has the same heathered-grey texture (also a brand I’m a big fan of), and this one is half the price of that!
- I bought this Toteme printed scarf last year (worn here) and it’s back in stock! I plan on wearing it with a white tee and jeans for this in-between weather.
- I’ll be re-wearing my favorite High Sport pants in purple and red. Sadly the purple is sold out, but Boden just came out with pants in a similar grape shade and they’re under $130.
- I am praying for a dip in temperature so I can pull out these fringe jeans, even for just a morning!
- I really love the most recent Staud collection and sat with it for a bit before impulse buying too many things. I ended up narrowing it down to this top, which I’m already styling a handful of ways in my head for different events this month.
- These purple balloon pants are under $50 and one of my favorite Zara finds.
- I really wanted this Chanel pullover that I had saved from the runway but opted for this very similar one for under $200.
What I’m Buying
- Reformation has me right now. I feel like a broken record because I’ve mentioned it on Whims a few times, but they keep catching my eye. I placed an order last month (for these purple sandals and pants), and now I have these three things sitting in my cart: this skirt, these wedges, and this dress.
- A few coats that sold out last fall that I kicked myself for not getting were this jacket, this jacket (long version here) and this coat. All back in stock with fresh sizes!
- Short pencil skirts are popping up everywhere and I’m on board. Here are a few that caught my eye: this gold embellished one, this embellished marigold one, this turquoise leather one, and this pony hair cheetah one.
- I have these Chan Luu pants in gold and cream, but now this orchid color is screaming my name for fall!
- This Dries Van Noten wrap skirt
- Lots of fabulous fringe coming out for fall! This Zara dress is a no-brainer under $150, but I’m also loving the new Ulla Johnson pieces– this skirt and this dress.
- Beauty items I stocked up on after travel:
- I’m a big fan of &Daughter’s knitwear. All of their pieces are crafted in the UK and Ireland and they hold up incredibly well. No surprise here, but I love their new “vivid purple” color– pullover here and cardigan here.
- New fall things for my girls including:

Well, it is officially September! But also, how? This summer felt like a total blur. Our month stay in New York was so wonderful, but really made the season feel like it went by far too quickly. Now that we are starting to get into all things fall, many of my favorite brands are releasing their first pre-fall styles, and they are SO GOOD. Below are a few of my top picks…
BODEN // You know I am a Boden girl. I plan to share a few looks that I shot in NYC later this month, but first I want to highlight all of my new arrival picks while they are still in stock. I am bringing this fair isle sweater as well this one over to Scotland later this month. If you love argyle and plaid, you simply cannot miss this embellished sweater, this trench, and these pants. And, last but not least, at the top of my list, and currently on its way to me, is this unexpected ruffle neck coat!
TUCKERNUCK // This go-to retailer just dropped one of the most beautiful jacquards. I actually got a sneak peek of this style while I was visiting their corporate offices back in July. Guess what, it is even better in person! The pattern is available in this short coat, this long coat that I ordered, this dress, and this skirt! Also, do not sleep on this scarf that I am in love with and these earrings that I know I will wear a ton this season. I can’t resist a statement stud!
GUEST IN RESIDENCE // I fear that this brand is turning me into a full blown sweater fanatic. I fell hard for Guest In Residence last year via this piece, and good news, it is back in new colors! So far this season I have snagged this new bandana print work shirt in cashmere and this cool checked piece.
& OTHER STORIES // If you love purple then you will love these new arrivals. This jacket is divine and this bag is such a great color and price!
ASOS // ASOS new arrivals are always seem to be at the top of my wish list each month. My current faves are this top, this skirt, and this pillbox hat that is under $50!
ANN TAYLOR // Ann is having a moment. You all loved when I posted this skirt last month. Dare I say that their September drop is even better? I am currently loving this horsebit skirt, this chic blazer, this printed midi dress, and this cropped coat. I am looking forward to see how the brand continues to evolve!
ALEMAIS // Alemais is a splurgy worthy brand and their latest drop is their best of the year. Some notes: I would love to wear this to a formal event, I am obsessed with these ruffle pants, and this dress is so fun!
A few other odds and ends worth mentioning: This new bag shape already has me hooked, this coat is from a new brand relaunch, and I am desperately waiting for this clutch to launch!

The Best Work Backpacks for Women in 2026
This post may contain affiliate links and Corporette® may earn commissions for purchases made through links in this post. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.

Readers, are you on the hunt for a polished work backpack? Work backpacks can be great for your commute. They can also be perfect for business travel because so many of them have trolley sleeves now. So we thought we’d round up the best work backpacks for you!
If you’re in the market for a backpack for work, how important is style versus function for you? Will you only accept a stylish backpack for work, or do you need a rugged, waterproof bag to schlep your extra large laptop on your bike commute? Are you forever on the hunt for a great convertible backpack that can be worn as an ergonomic, hands-free friendly backpack when you’re on the go but looks like a purse, tote, or briefcase when you’re walking into your meeting?
Let’s discuss…
Editor’s Quick Picks: The Best Work Backpacks For…
What to Look For In a Great Work Backpack
For most women, the best work backpack is polished enough for the office but practical enough for your commute. For purposes of this roundup, we look for a dedicated laptop compartment, comfortable straps, enough organization for everyday essentials, and a streamlined design that doesn’t read as a hiking or school backpack. Depending on your commute, you may also want water resistance, a luggage sleeve, or room for gym clothes.
Are Backpacks Polished Enough for Work?
Backpacks have come a long way in recent years — when we asked the readers, “tote or backpack?” backpack was the resounding winner. Especially now that hybrid work often means carrying your laptop and other gear back and forth, having a large, ergonomically friendly bag makes sense. Some more reasoning from the readers:
- “Team backpack for ever. I carried a tote for years and then switched to a backpack and felt free as a bird. I could take the long way home or get off the bus early and walk b/c I wasn’t dragged down by my bag.”
- “I just got the lululemon commuter backpack. It’s so much easier than than a tote and fits both gym + work stuff. Its necessary because we are “hot desking” – if I wasn’t carrying my laptop back and forth I would probably go for a tote.”
- “I switched to a backpack before pandemic bc of having to carry my computer back and forth on the subway. Also, bc now firmly in my early 40’s, IDGAF.”
- “Team backpack! Most partners at my big-law firm use them– men and women. Some of the older men use briefcases, some of the older women use totes, but for the 55 and under crowd, it is backpack city. It is just so much easier. When you are meeting with a client, then totes come out.”
- “I am now at long last team backpack. I work in a major corporate HQ in a major city (although not NY / SF) and almost everyone has a backpack. It helps probably that we have a free corporate gym onsite so I imagine there are a lot of folks doing what I’m doing – ie going to the gym before / at lunch / after work and combining work stuff with gym stuff.”
- “I have both. If it’s a light gear day – tote. Kitchen sink gear day – backpack. I’ve seen a few messenger/backpack convertibles, but I’m not totally in on them. I’m not young, but I wouldn’t mind people thinking I was. Getting a backpack is far cheaper than a lift.”

The Best Work Backpacks for Women (New This Year!)
Cuyana

The Cuyana backpack has been around for a few years now, but I don’ t think we’ve ever featured it!? If you want a really minimal, clean look — but in leather — this is the bag for you.
I like that it has space for a 16″ laptop, and the internal hook is a nice addition to keep it closed. The bag is $528 at Cuyana or Nordstrom, available in black and cappuccino as the core colors, and “dark chestnut” just arrived as the fall color.
Other options for you if you want leather: Coach (which has the benefit of padded straps). Quince. This highly rated bag from MAISON de SABRÉ.
Dagne Dover Andre

Lightweight work backpacks aren’t hard to find, nor are convertible backpacks that turn into handheld satchels — but it’s unusual to find both in the same bag. It’s also nice that this one is a good deal less expensive than some of the other similar convertible bags (Oleada, Senreve).
If you want a lightweight bag (nylon or neoprene), though, you have a ton of options. Some nice ones include Bellroy, Calpak, MZ Wallace, and Away.
Lux & Nyx Origami Backpack

Why am I such a sucker for a good origami detail? In any event, this backpack from Lux & Nyx is winning rave reviews for its thoughtful design, including a cushioned top handle, padded back panel, dual bottle pockets, and weather- and stain-resistant eco-friendly nylon. It’s also designed to fit beneath airplane seats.
The bag is $148, with 91% of reviewers giving it 5 stars.
The Best Work Backpacks for Women (Classic Favorites)
The Best Backpack for Work, Overall: TUMI

Tumi bags are always amazing for work and beyond — and many readers consider them investment bags.
(Although we rounded up the best luxury work bags recently, it should be noted that a lot of our readers with the biggest jobs note that they love their Tumi and Lo & Sons the most.)
Tumi has a zillion options these days, all generally $395-$495; many of them have travel sleeves as well as laptop sleeves.
Readers have adored the Voyageur line, and the nylon versions tend to be on the more affordable end, while the leather versions are more of a splurge. The pictured backpack (the Celina) is one of their current bestsellers — it features multiple exterior zip pockets, a water-resistant water-bottle pocket, smart phone pockets, a detachable key ring, and a laptop compartment (good for most 15″ laptops).
Other great options for luxury splurges: Cuyana, Akris, Troubador, and Senreve are great.
The Best Convertible Laptop Backpack: Lo & Sons

A good convertible backpack can be hard to find, but Lo & Sons’ Rowledge has been a reader favorite for years because it’s a sleek, well-thought out convertible bag. Not only do the backpack straps tuck away, but the bag has a travel sleeve! (Cue the heart emojis and gifs!)
I could see it being great for business travel. The bag is normally $498, but you might be lucky enough to find it on sale.
The Best Affordable Backpack for Work: Everlane

This Everlane backpack is one of my personal favorites — it’s sleek and polished, without being overly fancy, and I like that it’s intended for both men and women.
As one reader commented, “I have their Transit backpack and love it. Perfect number of compartments plus a slot to put it on the handle of luggage while traveling. I’ve used it for conferences, travel, and as a diaper bag. Mine is four years old and looks brand new (and you can toss it in the washing machine).”
The bag can fit a 15″ laptop, and features two water bottle holders and a trolley strap for luggage. I also like that there are a lot of intelligent pockets, and is in their eco-friendly “Renew” line.
The bag is $69-$95 at Everlane (select colors on sale).
Other great affordable backpacks include BÉIS, Away, lululemon, Incase, and CALPAK. (Quince also has both a neoprene and quilted option, both under $100.) In the under $50 category, check out Muji or this under $30 option at Amazon.
(The pictured one reminds me of this old reader favorite from KNOMO!)
The Best Work Backpack for Your Commute: Dagne Dover

If you’re hunting for a water-resistant bag for your commute, it can be really tricky to find one for work because they all look a bit rugged.
Enter the old reader favorite from Dagne Dover, the Dakota — the neoprene, water-resistant backpack has a trolley sleeve, a shoe bag, a zipper laptop pocket on the outside and a slip tablet sleeve on the inside. The bag is also handwashable, insulating, and shock-absorbent.
The bag is $250 at a number of retailers; Dagne Dover has it in several colors.
Readers, which do you think are the best work backpacks for women in 2026? What are you carrying to work right now?
Sure, we all know what wardrobe essentials for work professional women are supposed to have in their closets, but if you’re buying one for the first time or replacing one you’ve worn into the ground, it can be a pain to find exactly the right incarnation in stores. In “The Hunt,” we search the stores for a basic item that every woman should have.

Coffee Break: Sadie Pump – Corporette.com

Every time I post a heel, readers tell me they aren’t wearing them anymore—but if you are, Naturalizer has some really great options right now, including a take on the high-vamp trend. If your feet revolt against any real height, though, these low “pumps” look lovely. The block heel looks comfortably walkable, and as someone with narrow ankles, I always appreciate an ankle strap.
The pictured shoes are $135 at Naturalizer in three different colors, sizes 5-12; you can also find them at Nordstrom.
(ZOMG: I haven’t seen a peep-toe heel in a loooong time.)
