The Best Business Casual Sneakers for Women (Comfortable and Office-Appropriate)

Sure, we all know what wardrobe essentials for work professional women are supposed to have in their closets, but if you’re buying one for the first time or replacing one you’ve worn into the ground, it can be a pain to find exactly the right incarnation in stores. In “The Hunt,” we search the stores for a basic item that every woman should have. If you’re looking for business casual sneakers for women that are actually office-appropriate, these are our top picks for 2026.
Here’s a timely question, readers: Which are the best sneakers for work outfits? When are “sneakers for work” appropriate in your offices? How are you wearing sneakers with your work outfits?
{related: The Ultimate Guide to Business Casual for Women}
What Counts as Business Casual Sneakers for Women?
Here at Corporette, we’ve always taken the position that sneakers are fine — for your commute. I certainly wore my Chucks with suits on a lot of commutes, and kind of thought it was a cute look… again, for my commute. This has changed significantly in recent years, and continues to evolve.
For 2026, business casual sneakers continue to be a thing — but they do skew more casual than polished flats like these or loafers like these.
In fact, we recently rounded up comfortable non-sneaker shoes that readers have said they’ve worn to conferences and other events where they know they’ll be on their feet for hours.
Here are the things I think you should look for in work sneakers:
- They don’t look like they were run over in the street.
- They’re not super chunky/athletic.
- Look for a design that is just a BIT more than your basic white sneaker — interesting stitching, a contrasting detail
As always, the most important part of knowing which sneaker to wear to work is knowing your office. Our advice here is the same as it always is: Look to the mid-levels above you for fashion inspiration, not the CEO, partners, or other C-suite people — they’ve earned the right to wear whatever they want.
For example, in a recent conversation, some readers noted that Golden Gooses were great for their office, but others noted that a “distressed” shoe, no matter how expensive, just wasn’t appropriate for their offices.
Another important thing to note: When you wear sneakers to work may be highly dependent on what kind of day you’re having, who you’re meeting with, and more. You may want to keep a pair of neutral flats or heels in your office just in case — here are some of our latest roundups of comfortable work heels, as well as the most comfortable flats for work.
(Another note: If your bosses are “non-fashion people” and tend to be a bit curmudgeonly, tread really carefully before wearing sneakers to work.)
What are business casual sneakers (executive summary)
- They don’t look like they were run over in the street or like you wore them gardening
- They’re not super chunky/athletic.
- Look for a design that is just a BIT more than your basic white sneaker — interesting stitching, a contrasting detail
When can you wear sneakers with business casual outfits?
- When in doubt, stay on the more conservative side of things with loafers, heels, or other regular office shoes. This is a great example of why you should keep shoes at the office so you can change out of sneakers if you get called into a bigger meeting.
- Know your office! Some clues that you can wear them to work: men wear sneakers to work frequently, and you’ve seen several women mid-levels wear sneakers and continue wearing them all day (i.e., not just for commuting)
A Note on Comfort and Business Casual Sneakers
The primary reason one would wear business casual sneakers, obviously, is for comfort — so it’s interesting to note that a lot of readers add insoles to their sneakers.
The best insoles for women’s dress shoes include reader favorites from Vionic, Superfeet, and Pedag — and Kat loves her Aetrex.
The Best Business Casual Sneakers to Wear to Work in 2026
Without further ado, here are our favorite sneakers to wear to work in 2026!
Best Overall Business Casual Sneakers for Women

Adidas Samba
We’re picturing Adidas Samba, but Adidas Tokyo is another rising star here, and either are a safe bet if you can wear sneakers to your office. There are a number of muted, tonal shades out right now (a lot of white with brown stripes) and it’s easy to see a lot of them as being workhorses for business casual outfits.
Last year’s pick from Cole Haan is still available, but in much reduced colors, and I think the sleeker, lower profile to Adidas is the better pick if you’re buying something new.
Other extremely low profile sneakers that are similar include options from Gola, as well as Vince and Rag & Bone. Some of the less-distressed versions of Golden Goose would also work. (Readers have called Golden Goose “insanely comfortable,” so it’s nice to see that there are less-distressed versions available.) “Ballet sneakers” are another form of trendy low profile sneakers; check Everlane or Rag & Bone, or some of the trendy mary-jane style sneakers at Nordstrom.
The Best Comfort Sneakers for the Office

Vionic Winney
There are, of course, a ton of options for the most comfortable sneaker, but I like the vintage vibe to these ones from Dr. Scholl’s.
It’s worth noting that the shoes are hugely popular with the brand — they have Time Off slip ons, sandals, high tops, wedges, and even men’s versions. Personally I like this gray colorway, but there are a lot of stark white ones as well.
If you have foot issues, this is definitely one of the top brands to check out. They’re available in half sizes 6-11 for $70-$100.
Other great comfort options: like our 2025 pick (Dr. Scholl’s) or our 2024 pick (Vionic) are still available. Insoles are another great way to make sneakers more comfortable, whether you have specific orthotics or storebought insoles such as Vionic. Readers have also sung the praises of Kizik shoes, Birkenstock sneakers, and these Paul Green shoes are bestsellers at Bloomingdale’s (Nordstrom also has some colors).
The Best Sneakers for Lousy Weather On Your Commute

Blondo Carmen
Blondo specializes in water-repellent shoes , and their sneakers are really cute. This year I’m liking the Carmen, pictured, which has a nice low profile and looks like it will still look fresh after you’ve been caught in a drizzle.
A few other options for waterproof business casual sneakers: Vessi and Allbirds both specialize in waterproof sneakers. (Allbirds was just sold, though.)
The Best Pricey Sneaker for Work ($$$)

Veronica Beard Riviera
There are a lot of middle options that aren’t quite designer but are still a bit of an investment. This year I’m really liking Veronica Beard’s Riviera sneaker. As with the brand’s sleek clothes, the shoes are simple yet elevated.
We still like last year’s pick from Vince, and it’s still available in a lot of colors. Other option in this middle price range from other brands include Tory Burch, P448, Common Projects, and Rag & Bone.
The Best Fancy Sneaker for Work ($$$$)

Loewe Flow Runner Sneakers
There are a lot of options for Very Fancy sneakers if you’re looking to spend a lot of money — Golden Goose, Gucci, Chloé, Maison Margiela, and more. For my $.02, my vote goes to the Loewe ballet runners (which are reportedly a lot more comfortable than our pick).
Yes, they’re much more athletic-looking than a lot of the other sneakers we’ve featured… but the distinctive cursive L, the colorblocking, the leather and rubber details — all of this adds up to a *chef’s kiss* beautiful sneaker.
The Best Classic Sneakers for Casual Offices

Superga Cotu
Like a lot of the “classic” sneakers, the Superga has been around for a loooong time. According to the Nordstrom product page:
“founder Walter Martiny designed the first Superga sneaker in Torino, Italy, in 1911. But it wasn’t until 1925 that he expanded his collection to include vulcanized-rubber soles, and in doing so created the now-iconic 2750 tennis shoe. The brand’s classic minimalist styles and new hits—beloved by Italians for weekends and getaways — now count fans all around the world.”
For some reason, I always associate Superga with Extremely Fashionable People (perhaps because I’ve always been a Converse girl myself). Any of the classic sneakers can work, though, especially if they’re part of your personality and you’re comfortable with theem.
These popular Vejas have a similar vibe. Another very classic look that’s very in right now: Adidas sneakers (both Samba and Gazelle).
The Best Athletic Sneakers for VERY Casual Offices

New Balance 327
Know your office very well before you try to wear an athletic-looking sneaker to work as part of your outfit. A lot of older people in the workforce will strongly associate this with movies like Working Girl, where the heroine commuted from Staten Island into the city wearing white sneakers with black hose.
THAT SAID, I’m seeing New Balance trainers everywhere (particularly this top-rated pair), so they deserve a mention.
There are a TON of different options in terms of colorways — for the office I’d keep it relatively neutral.
Business Casual Outfits with Sneakers: Inspiration
If you need outfit inspiration advice, we highly recommend watching the movie I Care A Lot (currently streaming on Netflix) — lots of colorful suits worn with sneakers.
Rising Trends in Business Casual Sneakers For Women
As of 2026, the sneaker trend is starting to wane. Trends I’ve read about include Mary Jane sneakers, ballet sneakers, mesh sneakers, and more.
One of my favorite trends is matching colorful sneakers to colorful pants — I think you can also have fun with shades of the same color, or even contrasting colors. It’s a nice reprieve from the Dad sneaker trend, but it helps if you have a signature color or a capsule wardrobe.
How to Keep Your Sneakers Looking Clean
Whatever sneakers you’re wearing, we love this reader trick: Magic Erasers work great on cleaning dingier white soles and sometimes white leather also.
A lot of brands are also making washable sneakers (notably, Rothy’s and Allbirds) — and you can get a specialized bag for your washing machine so they don’t knock around.

Sneakers For Your Commute
In 2026, if you want to walk to work in sneakers and change into real shoes at the office, I’d be surprised if many people had problems with that. Know your office, of course. (Many years ago people even went so far as to change shoes a block away from the office!)
Sneaker Flats
There are some “sneaker flats” that blend in with regular pants or, from a distance, look like shoes. The goal here isn’t to be cute, it’s to be comfortable and pass for polished.
Sneaker flats can be great if you’re opposed to commuting in flip flops (I did it, but realize it wasn’t the most polished look). In 2025 definitely check out brands like Rothy’s, Birdies, and Skechers for comfortable, flexible, sneaker-like flats. If you just want all-black sneakers, check out AllBirds and Cariuma. Also check out our roundups of foldable flats and washable flats, as well as our recent roundup of extremely comfortable business casual shoes!

Note that if your trousers are hemmed to wear with heels, these shoes might not be the best because your hems might drag on the ground — you could either look for platform sneakers, or chunky-heeled comfort brands.
There are a ton of other brands out there that might be a bit too chunky for the office, but are great for running around town and staying comfortable. Some brands to consider: FLY London, Dansko, Eileen Fisher, Børn, and Miz Mooz.
What do you think, readers: Are you on Team Sneakers for Work, or on Team Please Wear Shoes? Where would you draw the line for which sneakers are acceptable for work and which aren’t? (For example, certain colors like white or black, only “well taken care of sneakers,” sneakers with a specific sole color (e.g., the way that historically, heels with a cork sole aren’t appropriate for work?)

I would love one of these Olympia Le Tan clutches someday, despite the fact that there’s probably a limited number of places you can wear them. They just seem super witty and clever, and the bookworm in me loves that they look like books!
They’re $1,620-$2,820, at NET-A-PORTER.
(Of course, you can find similar designs on Etsy for a lot less, and even pay for a custom design for a specific book you love.)

Gabriela Hearst Hand Painted Capitana Boots
Walk through the narrative of a legacy with the Gabriela Hearst hand painted Capitana boots, the centerpiece of the Autumn/Winter 2026 collection. In a profound collaboration with artist Almudena Cañedo, these limited-edition cowboy boots pay homage to Eglantyne Jebb, the visionary founder of Save the Children. Each of the 24 unique pairs serves as a canvas, narrating Jebb’s life from a vibrant childhood in Shropshire to her transformative years of humanitarian debate. Combining Gabriela Hearst’s commitment to sustainable luxury with Cañedo’s intricate hand-painted storytelling, the Capitana silhouette transcends footwear to become a one-of-a-kind collector’s piece.
The Gabriela Hearst Autumn Winter 2026 collection pays homage to Eglantyne Jebb, an intrepid humanitarian whose work has touched more than one billion children in over one hundred countries since she founded Save the Children in 1919.
One-of-a-kind hand-painted leather cowboy boots by artist Almudena Cañedo tell Eglantyne’s life story. Twenty-four unique pairs narrate a childhood in Shropshire of countryside horseback rides and imaginative play, an adolescence of loneliness and transformation, a life of ideas and debate at university. The boots translate her experience into the collection’s palette: light blue, golden birch, camel, bordeaux, and black in youth; olive, ivory, chocolate, and plum in maturity.
