The initiative is being run by Pheniks in the Community CIC in partnership with Elite Community Hub in Halliwell and is open to both serving and former members of the Armed Forces, regardless of their fitness level or boxing experience.

Organisers say the sessions combine boxing-based exercise with a supportive and social environment, giving veterans the opportunity to connect with others who understand the challenges and experiences of military life.

The programme is designed to be accessible to everyone, with no previous boxing background required.

Sessions take place at Elite Boxing Gym, Halliwell, Bolton and are offered across three weekly time slots:

Wednesdays, 10am to 11am – Over-50s veterans

Thursdays, 6pm to 7pm – Veterans and their families

Thursdays, 7pm to 8pm – Veterans-only session

Pheniks in the Community CIC said the project aims to provide more than just exercise, helping veterans build friendships, reduce isolation and access a welcoming community space.

The sessions are free to attend and organisers are encouraging anyone with a military background who may be interested to come along and give it a try.

The movie is slated to hit theaters next year on February 12, 2027 before releasing on Netflix two months later on April 2.

In the book titled A To Z With C.S. Lewis, author Louis Markos discussed Aslan and Christ with Lewis.

‘Though many readers assume that Aslan, the lion king of Narnia who dies and rises again, is an allegory for Christ, Lewis himself disagreed,’ Markos wrote in an excerpt, per The Gospel Coalition. 

‘According to his creator, Aslan is not an allegory for Christ but the Christ of Narnia. The distinction is vital. 

‘Were Aslan only an allegory, a mere stand-in for the hero of the Gospels, he would not engage the reader as he does.’

Markos added, ‘In fact, as Lewis explained, Aslan is what the second person of the Trinity (God the Son) might have been like had he been incarnated in a magical world of talking animals and living trees. 

‘As such, Aslan takes on a force and a reality that speaks to us through the pages of the Chronicles of Narnia.’ 

The Magician’s Nephew is an ‘origin story for Narnia’ and ‘is the first ever adaptation’ of Lewis’ sixth book in the Narnia series, but appears as the first volume.

Gerwig explained that she first read The Magician’s Nephew as a child ‘and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life,’ per an official statement. 

She gushed that it is an ‘honor of a lifetime’ to bring the story to life. 

After reading the Narnia series, the actress and filmmaker added that she ‘believed in magic and hidden worlds and adventure. I believed that anywhere could be enchanted and that anyone could be swept up into an epic. 

‘That wonder and awe was available to everyone, even ordinary people like me… It transformed me.’ 

There were no reports of any injuries.

An inferno on board a Celtic supporters’ bus following the Old Firm fixture is suspected vandalism, the coach operators have said.

Firefighters raced to the inferno on Clyde Gateway outside the Emirates Arena in the east end of Glasgow at 2.25pm on Sunday, September 20. Emergency services scrambled to the incident after receiving reports of a blaze on a single passenger coach.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The bus, owned by McLean’s Coaches, had been due to carry Celtic fans home from the game but ignited just minutes after Gers’ 1-0 win over Celtic at Parkhead. Fans were escorted off the motor after a blaze broke out at the vehicle’s rear end.

A statement from McLean’s Coaches posted after the incident reads: “We are aware of an incident involving one of our coaches on the Clyde Gateway earlier today. Based on the initial information and images we have received, we have reason to believe the incident may have been caused by vandalism.

“The matter has been reported to the relevant authorities, who are investigating the circumstances. The vehicle has been recovered and will undergo a full inspection.

“We would like to thank the emergency services and everyone who assisted at the scene.”

The company added: “To be absolutely clear, this is not an allegation against the passengers or the supporters’ club.”

Dramatic footage from the scene showed the bus engulfed in flames on Sunday afternoon. Aggressive flames could be seen ripping from the rear of the coach as bewildered football fans stood and watched on.

Thick and dark plumes of smoke could be seen shooting into the sky as fire crews worked to put the blaze out.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a call at 2:25pm to a single decker passenger coach well alight on Clyde Gateway outside the Emirates Arena in the east end of Glasgow today, September 20. Fire crews remain in attendance. There are no reports of any casualties.”

A Glasgow City Council traffic bulletin said Clyde Gateway (A728) had been closed to all traffic between the Emirates Car Park Access Road and Dalmarnock Road just after 3pm on Sunday.

The road re-opened approximately 30 minutes later.

Portstewart has been named Northern Ireland’s best seaside town, beating well-known coastal favourites to a place on the Which? list.

The County Derry town was the only Northern Ireland destination to feature among the best, ahead of Portrush, Newcastle and Ballycastle. Each year, Which? readers vote for their favourite coastal destinations across the UK. Bognor Regis finished bottom for the second year running, with visitors criticising high prices and its run-down condition. No Northern Ireland town appeared in the bottom 30, in a sign of how beautiful much of the County Antrim coast is.

The jewel in the extensive crown of NI’s coastline is Portstewart, and it has plenty to offer anyone planning a seaside trip. Its main draw is Portstewart Strand, a two-mile Blue Flag beach managed by the National Trust and backed by an extensive dune system. Visitors can drive onto the sand, a distinctive feature that can make beach days easier for families with young children or plenty of equipment. Swimming, surfing and paddleboarding are among the attractions, while the dunes offer another way to explore this stretch of the Causeway Coast.

“Another interesting walk takes you along the beach to lifebuoy station 10, and then into the sand dunes where you’ll discover a different world. On a windy day the dunes are a welcome haven! Carry on through the dunes and you come to the edge of the River Bann. Follow the river towards the sea and you arrive back at the beach by the Barmouth. Then trek back along the 2-mile beach for a well-deserved drink at Harry’s Shack,” writes Northern Ireland Holidays.

Beyond the beach, the Promenade retains its Victorian seafront character, with cafes, ice cream parlours and sweeping sea views. It becomes a lively meeting place during the summer months, with Morelli’s among its best-known stops. The long-established ice cream parlour has been serving residents and visitors on the Prom since the early 1900s.

Golfers can choose from three courses at Portstewart Golf Club, including a championship links course along the shoreline. Royal Portrush is also a short journey away. For arts and culture, Flowerfield Arts Centre hosts exhibitions and events throughout the year. Housed in a Victorian mansion, it was Northern Ireland’s first centre of its kind.

The Times Travel r ecently called Portstewart the best seaside town in the UK. The publication wrote: “The promenade is still delightful, beginning at the harbour, opposite the café/deli Born & Bread, and passing between the rocky shore and a busy strip of seafront shops. Yes, you’ll find a chippy, Sheila’s souvenir shop and two ice cream parlours (Morelli’s and Roughans: the latter was the first I’d seen selling Dubai Chocolate flavour), but there is also a shoe shop, a kitchenware store and a furniture retailer. And perhaps that’s the secret: this may be a seaside resort but the promenade is also a busy high street that’s not dependent on seasonal business to pay the bills.

“There’s a butcher and a baker, then a fork off the prom leads to the Crescent, where there’s an outdoor play area with a boating lake, paddling pools, a kart track, dancing fountains and a bandstand. There’s a candlestick maker somewhere too, I was told, but I couldn’t find it. If it’s there, then Portstewart truly has it all.”

Portstewart also makes a useful base for exploring the wider coastline, with the Giant’s Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge, Dunluce Castle and Mussenden Temple all within reach. Nearby Game of Thrones filming locations have also drawn fans to the area for years.

The town faces strong competition from its coastal neighbours. Portrush, in County Antrim, sits on a rugged peninsula with three sweeping sandy beaches. Newcastle, in County Down, combines seaside walks with access to trails in the Mourne Mountains.

Ballycastle, also in County Antrim, is a historic market town with a Blue Flag beach and a traditional harbour, and regularly features among the best places to live.

But it was Portstewart that secured Northern Ireland’s place among the Which? favourites. Quieter than neighbouring Portrush, it offers a more relaxed base for visitors keen to explore the coast away from the busiest tourist spots.

Here, too, there was little surprise at what had transpired.

President Putin recently ruled out another wave of mobilisation.

“There is no scenario today that would require it,” he declared.

Not today. But what about tomorrow?

Despite official denials, in Russian society there remains deep anxiety over the possibility of a new mobilisation.

At the very least, the Kremlin is likely to treat the election result as a “mandate from the people” to continue the war.

The aristocrat has stirred up controversy with several TV interviews in which he made a series of claims against his former brother-in-law. Buckingham Palace responded to an explosive claim, from earlier this week, that King Charles said “we’ll forget her soon enough” after Diana’s death.

In response, the Palace said “the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason”.

The Mirror reports that Earl Charles Spencer, in an interview with the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg released in full on Sunday, opened up about his sister’s death while also commenting on his nephews Prince William and Prince Harry. Here are several bombshell claims from Earl Spencer’s TV interview:

Charles had a ‘giddy tone’ after Diana died

Earl Spencer claimed the then-Prince Charles had a “giddy tone” and sounded like a “lottery winner”.

“He was telling me how he had told the boys, William and Harry, at Balmoral and broken the news to them. And, I felt, as I say in the book actually, I felt there was a sort of giddy tone. I had a lot of calls that day from people who cared, who were stunned like we all were and I just felt there was a lightness in his tone about Diana’s death that really jarred with me.”

When asked about claims in his book that the King was “giddily elated like a lottery winner”, the Earl said: “I’m reporting, every word of this book, I report exactly as I saw it and felt it at the time and I was surprised at the giddiness of his tone. That’s what I am recording there.”

Earl initially told crash was ‘not too serious’

The Earl said he had been living in Cape Town, South Africa, at the time and was called in the middle of the night by his sister Lady Jane Fellows and told Diana was in a crash.

He said: “I got a call in the middle of the night and it was my sister Jane and she said ‘don’t worry Diana’s been in a car crash but it’s not too serious’.”

Earl Spencer said he watched the news throughout the night and got more “distressing” calls from home until his sister’s husband, who worked as the late-Queen’s private secretary, revealed Diana had died. He said: “It started… as a little prang, and then it became a broken leg, perhaps a head injury, and then death.”

Book will ‘not be a surprise to William and Harry’

The Earl suggested Diana’s sons would not be “surprised” over the claims and contents in his soon-to-be released memoir.

Earl Spencer said: “I don’t like to talk about what I’ve been speaking about to William and Harry but this will not be a surprise to them I will tell you that. These words will not be a surprise to them.”

On the two Princes, the Earl also claimed Diana “wouldn’t have wanted” her young sons to walk behind her coffin at her funeral. Earl Spencer also claimed he argued with the then-Prince Charles over this decision over a phone call.

In the BBC interview, he claimed: “I said, ‘Well, of course not, sir, she wouldn’t want it’. And then he said, ‘Well, I walked behind Lord Mountbatten’s coffin.’ And I said, ‘Yes, but you were 30 and he wasn’t your mother’.”

Coverage of Harry & Meghan having ‘cancerous influence’

Earl Spencer claimed the treatment of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex bears “echoes” of what his sister experienced.

He said his sister was “really brought low” by “criticism” she received from the media. He added it was a “pity” to see “echoes of that” in the coverage of Harry and Meghan.

Earl Spencer added: “I’m not here to speak for Harry and Meghan, but for anyone who’s being destroyed in this way daily, it must be such a cancerous influence in their life.”

‘I know lots of things about Charles not in the book’

The Earl revealed his motivations behind writing this book nearly 30 years after Diana’s death and said he felt he had a “duty” and was an “eyewitness to history”.

“This was very much a spur for me to write this now. Both of my parents died in their 60s, I’m in my 60s. I’m aware of mortality and I wanted to just put things down once and for all which were true.”

Earl Spencer, adding it was not a threat, said: “I know lots of things about the King which I chose not to include in the book because they were not relevant.”

Earl hopes ‘William and Harry resolve now’

Earl Spencer said he did not take sides between his nephews and said: “I hope one day it’s resolved, but I don’t know all.

“I certainly don’t know what’s been done in the finer detail and so I would feel intrusive if I got more involved than to say of course a mother would want her two sons to be happy together and love each other.”

Buckingham Palace, on Wednesday, in response to the Earl’s earlier claims said: “While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss.”

Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were found dead in the sea off Brighton beach in May after being dropped by taxi nearby

Three sisters whose bodies were recovered from the sea off Brighton beach died from drowning after being dropped near the waterfront by a taxi, Sussex Police have said.

The bodies of Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, all from the Uxbridge area of west London, were recovered from the water near Madeira Drive after emergency services were called at about 5.45am on May 13 amid concerns for a person’s welfare.

An inquest opened in Brighton in May heard that post-mortem examinations had given a provisional cause of death as “yet to be ascertained”. Police said on Sunday that further examinations had now confirmed all three women died by drowning.

On Sunday, Sussex Police confirmed that post-mortem examinations had “confirmed all three women died by drowning”. The force also announced that the police investigation into the sisters’ deaths had concluded, finding no evidence of criminality or third-party involvement.

Throughout the investigation, Sussex Police officers, supported by other forces, reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV footage, gathered statements from witnesses across the country and carried out further enquiries to establish the sisters’ movements prior to their deaths.

The investigation established that the three women were dropped off by taxi at Madeira Drive at 10.20pm on 12 May, with no evidence found that they visited any nightclubs or businesses in the area that evening.

The women were found to have entered the water close to where their bodies were recovered the following morning, “wearing everyday clothing”. The force confirmed “there is no evidence the women came to harm by any individuals”.

With the investigation now complete, the inquest will proceed to establish the circumstances surrounding where, when and how the three sisters lost their lives. An inquest hearing in May was told that Ms Adetoro was brought ashore by an RNLI crew and declared dead by a paramedic at the scene.

Christina Walters was retrieved from the water by an RNLI lifeboat, while Rebecca Walters was washed on to the shore of Brighton beach. Both were also declared dead by paramedics.

Following the sisters’ deaths, their father Joseph Jacobson had said there were days when the grief felt “unbearable”, but he held on to the memories they shared and “the bond that death can never take away”.

Chief Superintendent Adam Hays said: “From the outset of this complex and challenging investigation, we have been acutely aware of the speculation surrounding this incident, the public’s unanswered questions and their desire for answers.

“Our priority throughout has been uncovering the truth for the loved ones of Jane, Rebecca and Christina, because at this incident’s core there has always been a grieving family coming to terms with an unthinkable tragedy and loss. Our investigation has been thorough.

“Our extensive inquiries intentionally considered concerns raised by black communities surrounding the deaths of black people in or near bodies of water, as we worked to understand who the three women were, and the factors that could have led to them being found on the beach that morning.

“However, our inquiries have now concluded, pending any new information coming to light. Jane, Rebecca and Christina’s tragic deaths sparked a national outpouring of grief, and I would like to thank everyone who supported our investigation by coming forward with information.

“We will now support the coronial process and ask that the sisters’ family continue to be given privacy to come to terms with their loss.”

Manchester United’s lack of intensity was described as a ‘disgrace’ by Gary Neville, who felt that a 15 minute spell was the worst he had ever seen from a Red Devils team, although Carrick did not agree.

The United manager came under pressure from his own fans late in the match when he took Mainoo off with 10 minutes to play, replacing him with Mason Mount.

In a forgettable performance from the team, Mainoo was arguably Manchester United’s best player and the decision to remove him was met with boos.

However, Carrick was unfazed by the response, saying it is normal and Mainoo did not take the decision badly at all.

‘There’s always going to be certain reactions when you’re making changes,’ said Carrick.

‘I think Kobbie played well, to be honest, so it was just more of at that stage of the game we’re trying to make something happen and Kobbie understands that. He’s fine, I spoke to him after the game, he’s absolutely fine. He’s all about the team and what’s best.

‘It’s just one of them things. I understand at times when chasing the game everyone’s a little bit emotional, the supporters are, as well they should be, they’re desperate for us to do the right thing. But I don’t take any negatives or offence to it.

‘I think we’ve just got to try and keep doing the right things to get back into the game. The supporters were unbelievable today, I have to say, all the way through, and stuck with the boys and supported the boys. At least we’ve given them something small at the end to take from it, and I’m sure there’s more to come.’

It has been a really poor start to the season from Manchester United, with just five points picked up from games against Hull City, Ipswich Town, Everton, Manchester City and now Fulham.

Carrick said he was ‘disappointed’ after the latest draw, but was looking on the brightside, saying: ‘There are parts we can do better. The way we responded to going down was really pleasing, the boys were really positive and played with good purpose.

‘We’ve got something the supporters can take from the game. They were fantastic again today and kept pushing the boys.

‘I’m convinced we’ll have a good season. We’re having a spell that feels bigger than it actually is to the outside. We’ll get back to winning football matches and we’ll be alright.’

The Red Devils return from the lengthy international break when they take on rock bottom Tottenham on October 10.
