Muhammad Khaliq Rasool, 22, from Oxbridge Lane in Stockton-on-Tees, pleaded guilty to failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and possession of Class C drug oxymetholone at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on March 27, 2026.

It comes after Rasool was spotted by Roads Policing Sergeant Keenen travelling north on the A19 at Knayton, near Thirsk, at 1.22am on Friday (December 19).

A force spokesperson said: “Rasool’s white Skoda Superb was followed by the marked patrol car and was clocked doing 130mph on the 70mph limit road.

“Using blue flashing emergency lighting and sirens, Sgt Keenen attempted to pull the vehicle over at Exelby Service Station nearly Ingleby Arncliffe.

“However, the driver failed to stop and continued to head north, passing road workers at 120mph and undertaking other traffic at excessive speeds in wet road conditions.”

Rasool reached speeds of 140mph as approached the village of Crathorne.

North Yorkshire Police said: “Rasool then left the A19 at the Parkway roundabout in Middlesbrough, going through red traffic lights, and then headed east on A174.

“The Skoda was doing 150mph on the 70mph dual-carriage way road as it reached the Greystones roundabout near Eston.”

Rasool, police said, had left a junction at 110mph and travelled across a give-way without slowing.

He finally came to a dead end in a residential street and was blocked by Sgt Keenen’s patrol car.

North Yorkshire Police said: “Shockingly, Rasool attempted to make out that he hadn’t been driving the car by quickly moving to the front passenger seat, with the front seat passenger jumping into the rear seat.

“Both men were arrested at 1.40am.

“However, CCTV footage recovered from the scene proved that it was Rasool who had been driving the Skoda and the other man was released without charge.

“In police custody, Rasool was found to be in possession of a Class C drug, 10 tablets of oxymetholone in a blister pack, that had not been prescribed to him.”

Rasool was sentenced to 30 weeks’ imprisonment suspended for 24 months on Thursday (June 4).

He will also have to undertake 20 days of rehabilitation activity, carry out 100 days of unpaid work, and pay a total of £272 in court costs, plus the forfeiture and destruction of the oxymetholone.

He was disqualified for holding or obtaining a driving licence for 36 months and will have to undertake and pass an extended test competence.

Sgt Keenen said: “The pursuit footage taken from the police car clearly demonstrates Rasool’s dangerous driving and complete disregard for the safety of himself, his passenger, other road users, and the pursuing police officers.

“He even tried to claim that he had not been behind the wheel by moving into the passenger seat seconds before he was arrested.

“Thanks to the nearby CCTV footage, it proved beyond any doubt that he was the driver.

“Quite rightly, Rasool has been banned from the roads for a considerable length of time.

“This case shows the determination of North Yorkshire Police to relentlessly pursue dangerous criminals who use our road networks. We operate beyond our borders and suspects can expect to be caught.”

Cops have said that Paul Quinn, a vile pervert who savagely raped a woman in 2003 and let an innocent man go to jail for his crimes, may have had other victims.

While innocent Andrew Malkinson languished behind bars for 17 years, repeatedly trying to prove his innocence, it is possible that Quinn was attacking other women, cops have said.

Following Quinn’s sentencing to 24 years in jail for his horrific crimes today, Greater Manchester Police have put out an appeal for other potential victims to come forward.

“We’re appealing for potential victims of a man who raped a woman in a violent attack in Little Hulton, before watching the wrong man go to prison, to come forward,” the force said.

Paul Quinn (52), now of Exeter, was today given an extended sentence of 24 years, being unanimously found guilty of two counts of rape, one count of choking with intent, and one count of grievous bodily harm.

Now, detectives who have led the painstaking reinvestigation are encouraging anyone else who may be a victim of Paul Quinn to come forward with information, when they are ready, Greater Manchester Police said.

According to the latest data supplied by retailers, a driver in an average family car could save up to £7 by filling up at this forecourt – compared to the most expensive petrol station.

The Costco Wholesale garage at The Broadway in Chadderton is charging motorists 147.9p per litre, which means it would cost £96 to fill up an average 55 litre tank. This is based on a feed of live petrol prices which is published by the government.

UK drivers are currently paying 158.6p per litre of petrol, while people who own diesel vehicles are paying 183.0p on average.

In Greater Manchester, owners of petrol cars are currently being charged 2.9p less than the national average of 158.6p. Diesel car drivers in the region are paying 3.2p less than the national average.

The cheapest place to buy petrol in the country is at a Circle K garage in Portstewart, County Derry, where a litre of standard petrol is 144.9p. The most expensive petrol station in the country is a Steisean Connaidh Chrosabol garage in Crossapol on the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, where motorists are charged 207.6p a litre.

The prices quoted are for standard grade petrol (E10) and for standard grade diesel (B7).

The figures are supplied by the major retailers under a scheme operated by the government to ensure motorists are given a fair deal at the petrol pumps.

The beloved ITV soaps will shift from their usual broadcast times due to the upcoming Women’s European Qualifiers and the Men’s World Cup.

Viewers can expect a disrupted viewing pattern throughout next week as football matches take precedence over normal broadcasts.

All the Emmerdale and Coronation Street schedule changes next week

On Tuesday, June 9, neither show will air because of England’s Women’s World Cup Qualifier against Ukraine.

The schedule will resume on Wednesday, June 10, but with an earlier timeslot.

Emmerdale will be shown at 7pm, followed by Coronation Street at 7.30pm.

This change is to accommodate England’s final warmup game against Costa Rica at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida.

The disruptions continue into the latter part of the week.

On Thursday, June 11, with the commencement of the Men’s World Cup, which includes the opening ceremony, ITV will not broadcast either Emmerdale or Coronation Street.

Friday, June 12, brings the most significant change, with both having longer runtimes.

Emmerdale will air for an hour from 8pm to 9pm, with Coronation Street following from 9pm to 10pm.

Normally, the two soaps air back-to-back each weeknight, with Emmerdale from 8pm to 8.30pm and Coronation Street from 8.30pm to 9pm.

Both Emmerdale and Coronation Street have had to adjust their schedules several times this year already due to sporting events.

In March, an England v Uruguay match saw the soaps moved to a weekend.

More recently, they were taken off the air for women’s football between England and Spain.

A councillor said she often gets contacted by concerned residents

A city councillor is calling for action to tackle speeding and dangerous driving on a Peterborough road after two teenagers were seriously hurt in a crash.

Dogsthorpe Councillor Katy Cole is set to meet with residents, police, Peterborough City Council officers, ward councillors and Cabinet colleagues on Tuesday, June 9, to discuss measures which could combat speeding and road safety concerns.

“The reason I’ve put this meeting together is so that the [council] officers, the police and Angus Ellis (Cabinet Member for Transport) can come up with a plan,” Cllr Cole said.

The residential roads around Sycamore Avenue are known to be an area where motorists consistently drive erratically at speed. Earlier this month, two teenagers were seriously injured after the car they were driving hit three parked vehicles.

The incident resulted in Peterborough MP Andrew Pakes, and Dogsthorpe councillor Ishfaq Hussain calling for action to slow vehicles down on the road.

Cllr Cole told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) that local residents often compare the area to a ‘race track’. “Residents have used that term with me,” she said.

“Cars speed down to the bottom of Newark Avenue into Elmfield Road, they go up onto Central Avenue, they go right on Sycamore Avenue… up onto Eastern Avenue and then back again round on to Newark Avenue.”

The councillor said there were many dangers of speeding in such an area. “It’s a very, very busy, highly populated area,” she said. “You’ve got children walking to and from school, and to the shops.”

Cllr Cole has first-hand experience of what she calls’ ASB driving’. “I nearly got knocked over by a speeding car only a few weeks ago on Newark Avenue when I was attempting to use the zebra crossing.”

It’s an issue, the councillor noted, that has been going on for far too long. She said: “I was elected in 2023 and there haven’t been many months that have gone past where I haven’t had a resident contact me… about anti-social driving, anti-social parking or speeding.”

The councillor believes that bringing key players – as well as residents – together in discussion is the best way to ascertain which kind of measures will be most effective in tackling the issues.

“It’s important that we have this meeting with the police and highways teams, and councillors and residents, so that every one can be heard,” she said. “We can work together as a community to try and prevent this from happening.”

As reported by The Press, two cars were damaged by the fire along with nearby homes and a barbershop as a result of the blaze, which happened at one end of Beaconsfield Street in Acomb, at its junction with School Street.

Firefighters were on the scene around 10.45pm yesterday and several houses had to be evacuated as a precaution, North Yorkshire Police said.

A force spokesperson said: “The suspect remains in custody for questioning while the investigation continues.

“It is being treated as an isolated incident with no threat to the wider public.

“Witnesses or anyone with relevant CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage are being urged to come forward.”

A police cordon was in place this morning around the burnt-out vehicle and covered about one-third of Beaconsfield Street, after police issued a notice last night to the public to avoid the area.

Broken glass was on the floor next to the campervan and one of the windows of local business Headline Barber had a large hole in the bottom.

An SUV opposite the campervan saw its plastic fairing mostly melted away and there appeared to be scorch marks on other vehicles behind the cordon.

A clean-up operation involving a recovery vehicle was underway this afternoon.

A fireball was visible from neighbouring streets overnight and firefighters were seen damping down the campervan around 1.15am.

Local resident Susan, who lives in a flat ten metres away from the explosion, said she felt like she’d had a narrow escape.

She said: “I’d gone to bed and was fast asleep at the time of the explosion and was awoken by the loud bang.

“My husband was in the living room and saw the flames.

“Almost immediately it felt like, a police officer knocked on the door and told us to evacuate for our own safety.

“If the cars outside had gone up, we could have been next.”

Mrs Phillips, who lives in Milner Street, two streets away from the scene in the direction of Green Lane Allotments, said she was outside having a cigarette last night and heard the bang, which she said sounded like motorbikes she hears in the area.

Penny Hutchinson lives in Beaconsfield Street on the other side of police cordon put up yesterday.

She said everyone in her house was in bed when she heard the bang and she took a look out of her window then saw the blue lights of emergency service vehicles in the street.

Bryar Kanq is the owner of Headline Barber in Beaconsfield Street which is directly opposite the scene of yesterday’s explosion.

He lives above the premises and was there at the time and saw the incident from his front room window.

He said he was still shaking last night but was OK this morning as he waited for the cordon to be lifted by police.

He said: “I heard the bang from the front room overlooking the campervan – I don’t think it’s moved from the same spot in a year.”

A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said none of its vehicles were deployed to the area.

North Yorkshire Police said anyone who can assist its investigation can call the force on 101.

Democrats labeled President Donald Trump “the Commander-in-Sleep” after he closed his eyes and appeared to “doze off” during an Oval Office press briefing.

Trump gathered reporters late afternoon Thursday at an event about “clean coal,” but when he gave the floor to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, the president leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes for several moments.

Liberals with large social media followings and prominent Democrats seized on the opportunity to mock the president.

“The Commander-in-Sleep clocks in,” said the official X account of the Democratic Party.

Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s press office account quipped, “Sleeping is far better than listening to Lee Zeldin talk,” while California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s team declared, “DOZY DON IS BACK (HE NEVER LEFT).”

The White House denied that Trump was asleep in a fiery social media post.

“His eyes are literally open in the clip you posted, you dumba** mouth-breathers,” the White House Rapid Response account fired back at the progressive “Headquarters” account.

The progressive account had claimed Trump “appears to be completely passed out asleep during his 3pm Oval Office announcement,” and also referenced a similar incident on May 11 where a reporter posted a photograph of the president with his eyes closed. “He was blinking, you moron,” the White House account claimed at the time.

“How long until the @WhiteHouse says he was just ‘blinking’?” Headquarters joked Wednesday.

Hunter Biden, whose father, former President Joe Biden, is frequently the target of “Sleepy Joe” taunts from Trump and his administration, also joined in.

“See…I told you it was a clone. They keep forgetting to charge its battery,” Hunter Biden posted.

Others shared more serious concerns for the president.

Jonathan Reiner, the cardiologist of the late former Vice President Dick Cheney, said the behavior was “not normal.”

“A glaring omission from the president’s recent physical examination is any mention of his sleep disorder,” Reiner, who has frequently scrutinized Trump’s physical and mental fitness, said. “This is not normal.”

Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California claimed the president “is not well.”

“He can’t stay awake at important White House events and cabinet meetings,” Lieu said. “@WhiteHouse needs to come clean about why trump takes so many trips to the hospital and why doctors keep giving trump cognitive tests.”

“If any CEO fell asleep at multiple board meetings and events, that CEO would be fired,” he added in another post.

Lieu questioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio at a House hearing Wednesday.

“Secretary Rubio, have you been at more than one meeting where President Trump has fallen asleep?” Lieu asked him.

“I’ve never seen him fall asleep. On the contrary, the guy doesn’t sleep,” Rubio replied.

White House Physician Dr. Sean Barbabella said Trump was in “excellent health” after a recent medical examination, and claimed he demonstrated “strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and overall physical function.”

The banner was described as an ‘offence and racist’ erected ‘solely to sow hate and division in our community’

The erection of a banner at a children’s playpark in Co Tyrone is being treated as a hate incident.

Police said officers removed the banner in the Moygashel area on Friday. A police spokesperson confirmed the placing of the banner is being investigated as a criminal offence.

“As a result, officers removed the banner from the children’s playpark on Friday June 5,” they said.

“Police inquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information that could assist is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 891 29/05/26.”

Local Sinn Féin and SDLP representatives welcomed the removal of the banner.

Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew described the banner as an “offence and racist”, adding it was erected “solely to sow hate and division in our community”.

He added: “There is no place in our society for racism, and it is the responsibility of all political representatives and community leaders to stand against hate and racism.

“Those who erected this vile banner have nothing to offer our society.”

SDLP councillor Karol McQuade said those responsible for the banner “do not speak for the people of Moygashel”.

He added: “I am glad to see that this hateful banner has now been removed. Its erection was a clear attempt to intimidate local people and make families feel unwelcome at council-owned facilities that are there for everyone.

“The people responsible for this banner do not speak for the people of Moygashel. This is one of the most diverse communities in the North and the people who have chosen to make their lives here contribute enormously to our society through their work, their culture and their involvement in local community life.

“I would urge the people behind these displays to show some humanity and let people live in peace.”
