The man was allegedly attacked near the Temple Bar area of Dublin.

Cops have identified a man with a Scotland tattoo who is fighting for his life after an alleged attack in Dublin. Two men, in their 20s and 30s, have been arrested following the incident at Cope Street, just off the old Central Bank building in the Temple Bar area, in the city on Wednesday, February, 18, at around 12:30am.

The male victim has not been named but is in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital. He was allegedly repeatedly kicked and stamped in the head before an E-bike was dropped on his neck.

Officers released an image of his tattoo earlier in the week, which has the words ‘Ceol is Beatha’, meaning ‘music is life’ in Gaelic on his right forearm. They confirmed today, February 21, that he had since been identified.

The alleged attackers are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda Stations in Dublin.

A Garda spokesperson said: “We have identified the man allegedly assaulted at Cope Street, Dublin 2, on Wednesday February 18, 2026, at around 12:30am.

“We would like to thank the public for their assistance. He remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital.

“On Friday evening, Gardaí arrested two men in connection with this investigation. The two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda Stations in Dublin.

“Anyone with information about this alleged assault is asked to contact us at Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

Two bodies have been discovered in the Eryri mountain range following a search for two missing young men.

Mountain rescue teams and coastguards conducted an extensive search in snowy and icy conditions in the area near Yr Wyddfa in North Wales.

Concerns had been raised for the welfare of two men, aged 19 and 20, on Wednesday.

Both the bodies recovered have been formally identified and their families have been informed.

Jurgen Dissmann, the chair of the Llanberis mountain rescue team, said: ‘On behalf of Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, I would like to extend our most heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the two men who have tragically lost their lives.

‘The team were tasked by North Wales Police and launched an extensive multi-agency operation in full winter conditions.

‘Volunteers searched across challenging mountain terrain in snow and ice, working long hours through the night in difficult weather in an effort to locate the pair as quickly as possible.

‘Despite the determined and sustained commitment of everyone involved, we are deeply saddened that, despite all efforts, the outcome was not what we had hoped for.

‘I would like to sincerely thank our colleagues from Aberglaslyn Mountain Rescue Team, RAF Mountain Rescue Team, SARDA and HM Coastguard for their invaluable assistance throughout the operation.’

In a separate incident, police in Scotland are searching for a hiker who failed to return from an excursion on Ben Nevis.

Brian Mcgillicuddy, 64, was last seen at 4am on Glasdrum Road in Fort William.

He was wearing a white climbing helmet, a dark blue jacket and white jeans.

Sargeant Paige Macdonald said: ‘Brian is an experienced hill walker, but he did not return from his planned hike and has not been heard from since.

‘I am appealing to anyone who may have seen someone matching Brian’s description to please come forward with information, no matter how small it may seem.’

Four people have been arrested after a planned search in South Belfast.

Suspected drugs, ammunition and firearms were found during the search of a property in the Danesfort Park area on February 20. Neighbourhood Team Inspector Róisín Brown said: “Neighbourhood officers, assisted by a Tactical Support Unit search team carried out the search of a residential property.

“This has resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of items, including suspected Class A, B and C controlled drugs, drug related paraphernalia, cash, suspected ammunition, firearms and component parts. “Three men, aged 25, 37 and 55 and a woman aged 56, have been arrested on suspicion of a number of drug-related offences, possessing a firearm in suspicious circumstances and possessing criminal property. “They all remain in custody at this time.” Inspector Brown continued: “We will continue to work tirelessly to search for and seize drugs, investigate and arrest those involved in drug supply and criminality, and remove drugs from our streets.

An X Factor winner has claimed that ‘no one protected him’ as he asked Simon Cowell to have a conversation with him about the ITV series.

Britain’s Got Talent star Simon is best known in the UK for his time as head judge on The X Factor. The singing competition ran from 2004 until 2008 on ITV, with the likes of Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Tweedy appearing on the judging panel alongside him over the years.

The X Factor is remembered for producing a number of the UK’s biggest pop stars of the 21st century, including One Direction, Little Mix, JLS, Leona Lewis, Olly Murs and James Arthur to name a few.

Recent years have seen several former contestants speak out against the series, including 2010 participant Katie Waissel saying she was ‘completely ridiculed’ in internal emails when she was at her ‘lowest point’.

As part of Magic Radio’s new series Popstars at 25: The Story of a Talent Show Revolution, Matt Terry, who won the X Factor in 2016, has had his say on the care contestants received from the series.

“All of a sudden, I looked around and I was like ‘no one here is protecting me – and I think some of these things that are in the tabloids are coming from within’. And I get it now, I understand, it’s all to do with the show.

“The more me – and any other contestant – is in the press, the more scandalous, the more viewers – and we are pawns. I would love to have a conversation with Simon and know how he feels about it today.

“Everyone’s journey has been different, and I’ll speak for myself, but I won’t ever let it consume me. For me The X Factor is … something I did a very small percentage of my entire life.

“It’s not who I am, it’s not my identity and I will never let anyone identify me by that again. I’m an X Factor winner – but I’m also many other things,” he said.

Speaking about reactions to the series at home and around the world, Matt noted: “I feel like – especially in this country I will say – I’ve travelled the world, but it seems that in my own country winning The X Factor isn’t that great.

“Whereas other countries I visit, it’s respected you’ve done such a great thing. Here it doesn’t feel like that.”

Looking back on the songs that are picked, Matt said that he had his audition changed at the last minute and had to quickly compose himself to perform in front of the judges.

He recalled: “It’s all very secretive [the audition process] so I would go and do the producer rounds first and then again and again and again, and I just turned up one time and I didn’t know I was going to be in front of the judges.

“I got there and I was like ‘I’m not really ready, I’ve just got a t-shirt and a pair of jeans on’ and I wasn’t prepared. I’d chosen to sing When I was Your Man by Bruno Mars for my first audition but instead I heard the intro to Stand by Me – they’d changed my song.”

Sharing a similar experience, 2009 contestant Lucie Jones stated: “[Producers told me] This is the song we want you to sing [Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You] please bring three or four back-ups and backing tracks.

“And then just before I sang it Simon said ‘Are you sure you want to sing that song?’ You can see my face going ‘you told me too’.”

During the first week of the live shows, Lucie said she was asked to send in a list of songs for Idols Week. After putting Thriller by Michael Jackson at the top of her list, Lucie was then told she’d be performing Footprints in the Sand by Leona Lewis.

“I just went OK, cool. Not in a million years [would I have said anything]. It’s all good and well thinking ‘maybe I could have said something’ but can you imagine in 2009 a 17-year-old little girl from Wales standing up to Simon Cowell? Absolutely not,” she said.

JLS member Marvin Humes called Simon ‘the greatest TV judge there’s ever been’, saying that he is ‘very good at creating jeopardy with an artist’.

“JLS had no competition as a band that came through the auditions, Simon, I think for the first time, deliberately put together a band of four solo artists just to compete with us.

“Because he knew that we were good but he didn’t want us to know that he knew that we were good,” he said.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The annual dinner with governors at the White House is typically a chance for leaders from both parties to come together, socialize and spend a low-key evening with the president. But like many traditions during President Donald Trump’s second term, Saturday’s dinner has proven unusually controversial.

Ahead of this week’s gathering of the National Governors Association, Trump ridiculed the bipartisan group’s leadership, Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma and Democratic Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland. He refused to invite Moore, along with Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, to a working event at the White House on Friday — only to relent at the last minute.

Even then, the event was cut short when Trump learned of the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down his sweeping tariff policy, leaving even some Republicans frustrated by the week’s turbulence.

“It was unfortunate that the Supreme Court came out with a bad ruling at that time,” said Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, a Republican and top Trump ally.

Dozens of Democrats had threatened to boycott the dinner if members of their party were blocked from the working meeting. But even after Moore’s attendance, some said they still wouldn’t show up Saturday.

“President Trump has made this whole thing a farce,” Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey said in a statement explaining her decision to skip the dinner.

For all the turmoil surrounding the dinner, some Democrats said Friday’s meeting was useful. Moore said it offered a “chance for us to be able to share our thoughts and our perspectives and our ideas.”

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said governors asked Trump what lessons were learned from the administration’s aggressive immigration enforcement in Minnesota, in which two U.S. citizens were killed within weeks of each other.

“The President said, ‘We’ll only go where we’re wanted,” Hochul said approvingly.

Those who have attended previous dinners said they offered a rare and helpful opportunity for governors to connect with the president and members of his Cabinet away from the pressure of daily governing. Some also said the dinner was a chance to connect with fellow governors from other parties whom they might not see very often.

Asa Hutchinson, the former Republican governor of Arkansas who briefly challenged Trump for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, recalled being assigned to a table one year with then-Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo and getting to know her family.

“It’s a glowing evening in the White House,” Hutchinson, who once chaired the NGA, said in an interview.

He has denied any wrongdoing over his links to the convicted sex offender, but has not directly responded to the latest allegations.

After his younger brother’s arrest, the King said in a statement that “the law must take its course” and the police have “our full and wholehearted support and co-operation”.

Charles attended the first show of London Fashion Week on Thursday, hours after Andrew’s arrest, where he did not respond when asked for his reaction to the news.

During a visit to a concert in Westminster that afternoon, the Queen also did not reply to a question about her brother-in-law’s arrest.

Thames Valley Police, who are leading the investigation, are yet to receive any “early investigative advice” from the Crown Prosecution Service in relation to the allegation, it is understood.

Detectives have asked Andrew’s former close protection officers to “consider carefully whether anything they saw or heard” during their service could be relevant to the investigation into Epstein and his associates.

The Metropolitan Police said it was working with counterparts in the US to establish whether London airports had been used to “facilitate human trafficking and sexual exploitation”.

On Friday, the force said no new reports of alleged sexual offences have been made since the release of millions of pages of documents related to Epstein by the US Department of Justice.

Scotland Yard previously said it was looking into allegations Andrew’s protection officers turned a “blind eye” to his visits to Epstein’s island, Little St James.

Police are yet to identify any wrongdoing by close protection officers.

Andrew’s primary accuser, Virginia Giuffre, alleged she had sex with him during an orgy with “underage” girls on the Caribbean island.

The former prince has previously vehemently denied all allegations made against him.

The proposals will see 49 new trees planted, as well as two subways beneath a roundabout removed

A major redevelopment of a city centre landscape is set to get under way. The first phase of the Peterborough Station Quarter project is due to start before the end of March.

Peterborough City Council asked residents for their views on plans to fell 35 trees on the Queensgate roundabout, to start the first phase of the scheme, known as City Link. The work is expected to create a modern, welcoming gateway between the railway station and Cowgate, according to the council.

The two subways that run underneath the Queensgate roundabout will be removed and the landscape will be ‘enhanced’. As part of the consultation, officers reviewed whether any of the 35 trees could be retained.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Unfortunately, this will not be possible due to engineering requirements that are necessary to construct the new footpaths and make improvements to the landscaping to transform the area. The landscaping proposals will see 49 new trees planted and there are also plans for seven additional small trees/shrubs as well as a rain garden and Gabion walls.

“It was suggested in the consultation that more replacement trees should be planted. Although this will not be possible within the roundabout, the council is looking at other areas close by where additional trees could be planted.”

Cllr Mohammed Farooq, cabinet member for growth and regeneration, said: “I would like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation for their valuable feedback and we are now looking forward to seeing this vital work begin soon. I can also assure residents that we will continue to increase the tree canopy in the city as we move forwards.

“The Station Quarter project is going to be a real game-changer for our city and this first phase of work will be highly beneficial. Whilst the station is only a 10-minute walk away from the city centre, it’s very disconnected and not easy to navigate, with poorly lit pavements and walkways. City Link will transform this area into a much brighter, safer and accessible route.”

The Station Quarter is a regeneration project being delivered by Peterborough City Council in partnership with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, Network Rail, Platform 4, and LNER. It follows a successful bid to the Government for funding towards the project.

The Office for Product and Safety Standards (OPSS) issued recall alerts for items sold at some of the UK’s biggest retailers in recent weeks.

Customers are urged to stop using the products immediately and follow the instructions in the recall alerts.

Asda recall

Asda is warning shoppers to stop using a children’s toy sold at the supermarket immediately, because it may contain asbestos.

The supermarket giant issued an urgent recall for its Stretcherz ‘Stretch’ and ‘Slammers’ figures on Monday.

It was found that the sand-like material inside some of these toys may contain trace levels of asbestos.

Asda said that “asbestos should not be present in any amount”, and were therefore recalling the toy despite the risk being low, urging customers to “stop using them immediately”.

Shoppers who bought the toys, which were sold between January 2024 and February 2026, are urged to return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.

While the retailer has received no reports of harm, they are recalling the toys out of an “abundance of caution”.

The recall affects products with the barcode numbers 5050837662419 and 5050835105345.

An Asda spokesperson said: “Stretcherz is recalling certain toys following the identification of a potential contaminant in the sand used within a limited number of the products.

“Testing has shown that the sand-like material inside some of these products may contain trace levels of asbestos.

“The overall risk is considered low, but because asbestos shouldn’t be present in any amount, we are recalling the affected items as a precaution.

“While we have received no reports of harm, we’re taking this action out of an abundance of caution and in line with our commitment to the highest standards of safety and quality.

Asda recall

Asda is urgently recalling a children’s toy sold in the UK supermarket because it poses a “choking risk”.

The supermarket giant issued an urgent recall for its Hapello Power Train on Thursday February 12.

It was found that in some cases the toy may release the orange steam dome from the top of the train, meaning the toy could pose a choking hazard to users.

In light of this, Asda are urging anyone who bought the toy to ‘stop using it immediately’ and have pulled it from their shelves online and in-store.

The recall affects products with the barcode number 5063089308547.

Shoppers who bought the toy, which was sold between August 2024 and February 2026, are urged to return it to their nearest store for a full refund.

“We’ve taken the decision to recall the product.

Peppa Pig recall

Ladybird has been forced to recall Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee books due to a potential “choking hazard”.

The publisher Penguin Random House UK has issued an urgent product recall of specific printings of Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee books.

The books affected by the recall include a glitter varnish finish on the covers that is lifting and can be peeled off.

It warns that small flakes of glitter varnish could present a choking hazard to small children.

A report issued by the Office for Product Safety and Standards last week states the books pose a particular threat to children under 36 months who have a natural curiosity to place objects in their mouths.

Safety chiefs warn that the product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

Shoppers are being urged by both the Office for Product Safety and Standards and the publisher to remove the book from small children and return it to the retailer for a full refund.

A Ladybird spokesperson said: “As a precautionary measure, Ladybird are voluntarily recalling copies from specific printings of the above Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee books because of the discovery of a manufacturing fault where the glitter varnish finish on the cover of the books is lifting and can be peeled off.

“Small flakes of the glitter varnish could be a choking hazard to small children.

“The issue relates to a limited number of printings dating from 2020 and 2021 which were manufactured at a specific printer in the United Kingdom.”

The affected ISBN number for Peppa Meets Father Christmas is 9780241321539, Peppa’s Night Before Christmas is 9780241448625, Peppa Loves Easter is 9780241476406, Peppa Goes to Hollywood is 9780241476772 and Duggee and the Christmas Badge is 9781405947350.

The issue affects a number of printings from 2020 and 2021.

Boots recall

Shoppers at Boots and TK Maxx are being urged to stop using an eye cream “immediately” because of a risk of skin damage.

An urgent recall has been issued for the Hello Sunday The One For Your Eyes Mineral Eye Cream SPF50 after recent quality testing revealed it has a lower SPF level than is listed on the label.

Hello Sunday said they were “voluntarily” recalling the eye cream, which had been sold at Boots and TK Maxx, after testing reported lower SPF levels than declared.

As a result, the product may not provide adequate protection and could increase the risk of sun-related skin damage.

Boots and Tk Maxx are urging anyone who bought the eye cream, to “stop using it immediately” and return it for a full refund.

The recall affects all batch numbers and expiring dates.

A Boots spokesman said: “Recent test results by the brand showed the product failed to meet the level of SPF stated on the product label.

“As such, the product is being immediately recalled.

“Customers are asked to stop using the product immediately and to return the product to the point of sale for a full refund.

“If customers purchased the product through an authorised retail partner, they should contact them directly for a refund.

“If you purchased the product from Boots, please return to your local store for a refund.”

Hello Sunday said they had not received reports of any incidents related to the issue, but were still “proactively and voluntarily recalling” the product.

Tesco recall

Tesco shoppers have been issued a warning to stop using a mug sold by the supermarket giant.

A recall has been issued ahead of Valentine’s Day on a novelty mug that shoppers may be tempted to buy for their partners.

Tesco issued a product recall of the F&F Home ‘Valentine’s You’ll Do’ XL Mug after discovering the potential risk of the mug cracking.

The report claims that a small number of customers reported the mug may crack when boiling water is poured into it, causing a potential safety risk.

In a statement to shoppers, Tesco asked that the mugs be returned to supermarkets for a full refund.

Customers were also urged to stop using them immediately.

A Tesco spokesman said: “We’re recalling all batches of the F&F Home ‘Valentine’s You’ll Do’ XL Mug.

“This is due to a small number of customer reports that the mug may crack when boiling water is poured into it, presenting a potential safety risk.

“If you’ve bought an affected product, please stop using it immediately.

“Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required.

“Use our store locator to find your nearest Tesco UK or Tesco Ireland store.

Hobbycraft recall

Arts and crafts supplier Hobbycraft has issued a recall for one of its DIY craft boxes, suitable for children.

After independent testing of its Giant Box of Craft, containing a children’s sand product, traces of asbestos have been identified.

The company says it has been found “in a limited number of samples”.

Immediately, the product was removed from sale following the concerns raised and Hobbycraft says “there is no evidence of any injury or harm to customers.”

Hobbycraft added: “In co-ordination with Trading Standards and the Office for Product Safety & Standards, we are voluntarily recalling the Giant Box of Craft with immediate effect.

Tesco, Morrisons and Waitrose are urging dog owners not to feed a recalled pet food to their dogs because it may contain pieces of plastic.

The retail giants have recalled the Lily’s Kitchen Pasta al Ragu with beef, oregano and basil after the manufacturer due to potential plastic contamination.

Shoppers who bought the dog food are being advised to return it to their local store for a full refund.

The affected product is the 400g can and affects all the stock with the best before date of July 31, 2027.

A Lily’s Kitchen spokesperson, via the Tesco recall, asked customers to accept their ‘heartfelt apologies’ for the inconvenience.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “Lily’s Kitchen is recalling a specific batch of Lily’s Kitchen Pasta al Ragu with Beef, Oregano and Basil Dog Food 400g.

“This is because this product may contain pieces of plastic. If you have bought an affected product, please do not feed it to your pets.

“Instead, contact Lily’s Kitchen via phone: 0207 433 1863 or email hello@lilyskitchen.co.uk .

“Please be assured no other products are affected by this voluntary recall. Lily’s Kitchen has isolated the issue and are confident that they have resolved this matter.

“Please accept Lily’s Kitchen’s heartfelt apologies for the inconvenience.”

A Morrisons spokesperson added: “We have been informed by the Brand Owner that the product may contain small pieces of plastic. As such they are requesting that we recall this product from sale.

“If you have purchased this product, please don’t use it and return it to us for a full refund. We don’t need a receipt.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.

“Thank you for shopping with us and if you need more information please contact Morrisons Online Service Department on 0345 322 0000.”

A Waitrose spokesperson said: “We are recalling Lily’s Kitchen Pasta al Ragu 400g due to plastic contamination.

“Do not feed to your pets. Package up the item. Return the product to your local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund.

“Contact: Waitrose Customer Care 0800 188 884. We apologise that it has been necessary to recall the product and for the inconvenience caused.”

Hot water bottle Recall

A hot water bottle sold online has been urgently recalled due to a potential fire risk.

The UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) issued the alert for the Southern Arbor Electric Rechargeable Hot Water Bottle, which was listed on TikTok Shop and found to pose a “serious risk of fire.”

The OPSS warned the product could ignite while charging, especially if misused without proper instructions.

The OPSS recall notice said: “This product presents a serious risk of fire because there is a lack of thermal protection to prevent overheating when it is subject to misuse.

“As there are no supplied instructions, it is possible that no water will be added to the product, and while it is plugged in and charging it may ignite while the user is not present, causing harm to consumer and home.”

The recall was issued on Monday and includes model QM-01, PSD number 2511-0055, with barcode 69615846554 and serial/batch number 54513127286.

Other safety concerns include an adaptor with incorrectly sized pins, which does not meet UK electrical standards.

The product fails to comply with the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 and the Plugs & Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994.

As a result, it has been removed from TikTok Shop and recalled from end users.

Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and contact the distributor to request redress.

TikTok has been approached for comment.

If you fancy treating yourself to some tasty food after a day in the office, you have a couple of options ideal for a post-pint snack. It is quite hard to miss the bright pink food truck in front of the Old Ticket Office and you will definitely not want to miss the food found inside.

Alchile describes itself as a “gourmet Mexican” food spot. Its name is from Mexican slang that means “something real and honest”, which is exactly the kind of food Alchile serves up.

The food truck has received a lot of praise from Cambridge residents who say the food is ‘outstanding’ and the staff are ‘delightful’. I received a warm welcome from the staff, who waited patiently for me and my friend to decide what we wanted from the wide variety of options on offer.

I ended up choosing the burrito and picked the pork carnitas as my filling, which cost £11. My friend chose the quesadillas and the al pastor filling, which also cost £11.

We decided to try a side of tortilla chips for £1.30 and a range of dips that each cost 70p. While waiting for our food, my friend and I sat on the tables and chairs placed next to the truck that are also bright pink to match the brand’s theme.

You could watch the food being put together in front of you and it was easy to tell it had been lovingly made. The burrito came wrapped tightly in tinfoil and was packed generously with fillings.

Alongside the tender pork carnitas, the burrito was also filled with black beans, rice, pico de gallo, lettuce, cheese, and jalapenos. All of the ingredients were wonderfully flavourful and worked well together to create a warm and satisfying meal.

My friend got three quesadillas topped with the al pastor beef and melty cheese. On the quesadillas, you can choose two extra toppings from things like cilantro, red pickled onion, and queso sauce.

Even the dips were incredible. The salsa had a strong tomato flavour that had been seasoned with a few herbs.

I don’t usually enjoy guacamole but the Alchile dip was so smooth and flavourful. The sour cream was wonderfully fresh, wasn’t too heavy, and would be great to calm down any spicy sauce you might add to the meal.

The tortilla chips added a lovely crunch to my meal and were great when smothered in the different dips. The whole meal was well balanced and homemade using high quality ingredients to create clean and refreshing dishes.

Considering the food truck’s location, the price is fairly reasonable and can be maximised depending on what meal you go for. If you are ever having a post-work drink in the Old Ticket Office or are too tired to cook for yourself, you should definitely try Alchile.
