Erling Haaland believes Manchester City have found a new weapon as they look to dethrone Premier League champions Arsenal.

Man City began their Champions League campaign with an impressive 2-0 win over Portuguese giants Porto.

After a goalless first half, prolific goalscorer Haaland gave Man City the lead with a 47th-minute header.

The Norwegian superstar put the game to bed with City’s second in injury time, taking his tally for the club to 36 Champions League goals in only 40 appearances.

Haaland’s form was not the only promising sign for Manchester City, with Enzo Fernandez impressing following his £125m move from Chelsea and £86m signing Ayyoub Bouaddi thriving on his first start for the club.

Man City’s midfield was weekended by Rodri’s £65m move to Barcelona but Etihad bosses appear to have signed well in Fernandez and Bouaddi.

Morocco international Bouaddi only joined City two weeks ago but has already impressed Haaland, who described him as a ‘gem’ and revealed he had told decision-makers at the club that he looked ‘amazing’ in training.

‘I think he played a very good game,’ Haaland said of 18-year-old Bouaddi, who was linked with several Premier League clubs before joining Man City.

‘Last couple of weeks in training, I told the chairman that he has been amazing, so I think we have a gem here.

‘But to be honest, I think he should of played me through in the second half when I was all alone. I was a bit angry, so I will tell him right now, he played a good game, except that pass!’

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca also praised Bouaddi, describing his performance against Porto as ‘unbelievable’.

‘The good thing is that from Erling [Haaland], Ruben [Dias], Mateo [Kovacic] you expect how to manage this game but Ayyoub was never in panic,’ Maresca told Amazon Prime.

‘He was very good and I think the performance was unbelievable.’

Moses Itauma has a rare story behind his ascent.

Itauma was born in Slovakia to a Slovak mother and a Nigerian father, but was brought up from an early age in England, after moving  to Kent.

Originally, his parents had hoped that he might become a doctor or lawyer, but instead he followed his older brother, Karol, into boxing. While some parents might have been sceptical about that career choice, Itauma’s family became supportive when they realised his talent.

“There’s a lot of expectations on my shoulders to carry the flag of British boxing. I just have to live up to it,” Itauma told the BBC.

Itauma was spotted by Frank Warren’s son, Francis, as a teenager, with the Queensberry man noting his talent as he sparred with professional fighters, where he was able to get the better of far more experienced, and much older, opponents.

Boxing journalist, the excellent Gareth A. Davies, notes that while we can also see his exceptional talent, there is still a feeling that he has to show us more. All his wins have come so quickly, and with so much more to spare, that we may yet have seen him truly tested.

Davies wrote in The Telegraph earlier this month: “Moses Itauma was spectacular in demolishing old warrior Dillian Whyte here in just 119 seconds of utter dominance, but there is still one thing missing for the 20-year-old: rounds in the bank.

“In thirteen career fights, Itauma has fought just 26 rounds, stopping eleven of those victims.”

Aged 18 years and 341 days, Ayyoub Bouaddi became the fourth-youngest player to start a Champions League match for City.

Question marks were raised around the size of the fee for a position on the pitch where players can be exposed, but Bouaddi seems to have settled in immediately and showcased why he will be a valuable option this season.

“He is very good,” said manager Enzo Maresca. “Against Coventry, he lost two balls and after that he was inside our box and calm. Other players may have panicked but at 18, he is a fantastic player.

“Tonight, he was very good. He speaks French, English, Spanish perfect. He is different in how mature he is. This is why the club has made the effort for him to be with us.”

BBC Sport reported City’s interest in Bouaddi in June and, contrary to reports, sources said signing him and then loaning back to Lille for a season was not on the agenda.

The performance in Portugal highlighted why those in power at City believe he has all attributes to “develop into a world class talent” and he clearly enjoys playing on the biggest stage.

Two years ago, Bouaddi earned a standing ovation from Lille supporters after helping his side to a shock group phase victory over holders Real Madrid and the travelling City fans will have been doing the same in Portugal on Tuesday evening.

Bouaddi completed 54 of his 55 passes, while he also topped the metrics across players of both sides for most dribbles (4), most times possession won (7) and contesting more duels (13).

“He did a really good game,” said Haaland. “The last couple of weeks in training, he has been amazing. I think we have got a gem there, to be honest.”

Though it was only Bouaddi’s 10th appearance in the competition, the Norwegian sent a playful yet pointed message to his team-mate about needing to be perfect all of the time.

The striker added: “I think he should’ve played me through in the second half so I was a bit angry.

“But he played a good game… except for that pass.”

Los Angeles police have fatally shot a man who allegedly threatened them with a tree trimmer.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department were called to Zimran Canas’ home in the Boyle Heights neighborhood on Monday at around 10 a.m. local time.

The department said in a news release that they were told the man had a mental illness and was armed with a “metal pipe.”

When officers arrived at the home — located east of downtown Los Angeles — a family member came outside and directed them to Canas, “who exited a front gate armed with an approximate 8-foot pole with an approximate 12-inch serrated blade attached to the end,” according to the cops.

Police said they demanded that Canas drop the tree trimmer, but he refused and approached one of the officers “with the blade pointed toward the officer, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting.”

“They gave him commands to drop the item, but he advanced towards the officers,” LAPD Captain Mike Bland told local outlet KABC. “The officers did attempt to redeploy their position, but he continued to advance and not comply with their directives to drop the item and submit to arrest.”

Canas collapsed to the ground and officers provided first aid until paramedics arrived. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

No one else, including any officer, was injured during the incident.

It’s unclear how many officers drew their weapons and how many shots were fired. The Independent has reached out to the LAPD for comment.

Police recovered the metal pipe and pole with a serrated blade and booked them as evidence.

The LAPD’s Force Investigation Division is investigating the incident.

“Part of that process would include interviews with the involved officers, any body-worn video that they would have, any other video in the area, as well as interviews with any of the involved persons that were here at scene,” Bland said.

The spacious bedroom was wallpapered floor to ceiling and had a huge bay window overlooking the countryside. 

Stacey joked her furniture looked like it was from the film The Borrowers because of the sheer scale of the space. She said: ‘It makes everything I’ve got look tiny.’

‘I don’t know what to do here. There is so much space, I need your help. All I know is they have wallpapered every inch of this house, so that’s going to be fun.’ 

Stacey then went on to show the wardrobes which she said had ‘creepy coving’ but she loved their ornateness and the lock and key detail. She also showed even more wardrobe space in the form of a large room with rails and shelves off the suite.

Next up on the tour Stacey said: ‘This was the craziest, biggest bathroom I’ve ever seen in my whole entire life. The tiles they’re actually hand painted. 

‘They’re just loads of naked people. Don’t get me started on this giant swimming pool basically. Last but not least, this room just gets better and better – the sauna.’ 

Stacey said she had no idea how to use the sauna and would need to get it serviced. 

And while the bath looked impressive, the TV star revealed it is unusable at the moment after what debris they found in the tank. 

The future of it is being reviewed

More children are reportedly suffering more head injuries after falling from scooters, a councillor has claimed. The claim has been made as concerns have been raised over a contract to provide e-bikes and scooters across parts of the county.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority currently has a contract with Voi to provide e-bikes and e-scooters across Cambridge and some surrounding areas. They were introduced as part of a trial in 2020 which has since been extended until May 2028.

It is illegal to ride a privately owned e-scooter in public – only those offered by Voi as part of the trial can be legally used in the city. But some councillors have raised concerns over the vehicles blocking pavements, cluttering public spaces and the safety of riders.

The combined authority’s overview and scrutiny panel asked for a report on the “social value” of e-scooters and data on injuries. Cllr Anna Bradnam, of South Cambs District Council, said they had also asked for data on illegal scooters and e-bikes too.

She also asked for information to be provided by organisations that deal with head and brain injuries such as Headway and children’s hospices. The Liberal Democrat councillor said: “Coincidentally, I have visited a hospice and just asked them out of the blue – because the hospice deals with children with life-limiting and life-changing conditions – have you seen more children come in because of falling off scooters?

“They said, ‘oh, yes’ – I was really quite surprised, but of course lots of people on scooters don’t wear helmets.”

Cllr Hugh Clough, of Cambridge City Council, said Voi had not consulted them before deciding where to put designated drop-off points. The Green councillor said: “Voi’s actual responsiveness to concerns raised by the public and councillors is a major issue in our area.

“The lack of any sort of willingness to engage with councillors – that problem was raised too many times. We’ve all got the list of problem sites where people can’t get through, can’t get in – you can’t even get your mobility scooter or wheelchair through. It’s a festering problem which needs to be addressed.”

Cllr Bradnam asked for the topic to be brought to the panel as part of the January 2027 agenda list.

Erling Haaland praised new Manchester City signing Ayyoub Bouaddi after the victory over Porto, and jokingly claimed that he was “angry” with his new teammate. City claimed a 2-0 win over the Portuguese club in their first league phase fixture in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Haaland scored both goals for City in the second half, with the first coming just after the interval thanks to the Norway international getting on the end of a cross from deadline day signing Enzo Fernandez.

After the game, Haaland was asked for his verdict on Bouaddi’s performance for City, and went on to jokingly say he was “angry” with his teammate, after explaining why he has been happy with what he’s seen in training.

“I think he [Bouaddi] had a really good game,” Haaland told Amazon Prime after City’s win in Portugal. “The last couple of weeks in training, I just told the chairman, he’s been amazing in training and everything.

“So I think we’ve got a gem there, to be honest. But I think he should have played me through during the second half, I was all alone.

“So I was a bit angry, and I will tell him right now. But he played a good game, except that pass.”

Haaland went on to explain what new manager Enzo Maresca expects from both himself and the rest of the Man City squad in the early weeks of the head coach’s time in charge.

The City striker added: “We have to learn, Enzo [Maresca] has to demand a lot from us. We have to demand a lot from each other.

City will now prepare to return to Premier League action this weekend, where they will travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in the Manchester derby.

Maresca’s side are one of only two clubs in the Premier League to win all three of their opening matches, along with Arsenal, with City currently top of the table on goals scored.

George Clooney spoke with heartrending candor about the final moments of his sister Adelia ‘Ada’ Zeidler, who succumbed to cancer last December aged 65.

‘She died very quickly, and I was with her when she died,’ Clooney remembered this week while giving a masterclass at the Venice Film Festival.

‘And there was this feeling, being with her, holding her hand when she died, understanding how brief all of this is,’ he said, via Variety.

‘It was minutes ago that she and I were little kids together; Minutes ago we were holding hands as little kids,’ said the Good Night, and Good Luck director.

Clooney, who was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the festival, reflected: ‘Time goes fast. All of this. And so we have to find nothing but joy.’

Although Ada led a life outside the public eye, she was spotted with her world famous brother in Venice in 2014, the pair of them riding through a canal together during their visit to the city for his wedding to his wife Amal Clooney.

‘She died very quickly, and I was with her when she died,’ Clooney remembered this week while giving a masterclass at the Venice Film Festival 

Clooney previously described Ada as his ‘hero’ when he broke his silence on her death in a statement released the following day.

‘She faced down cancer with courage and humor. I’ve never met anyone so brave. Amal and I will miss her terribly,’ said the Ocean’s Eleven star.

Ada’s official obituary described her as a ‘talented artist’ in her own right who ‘died peacefully’ while ‘surrounded by the people she loved’ on December 19, 2025.

Three days after her death at a branch of St Elizabeth Healthcare in Kentucky, her funeral was held at Patrick Catholic Church in Maysville.

A decade before Ada’s death, Clooney remarked that he was ‘very close to’ his sister, in an interview with Charlie Rose on CBS This Morning.

‘And I’ve got a niece and nephew. My nephew was just made prom king from the high school that I went to where I was not named,’ he quipped.

Ada was born in Los Angeles on May 2, 1960 to Nick and Nina Clooney, just one year and four days before her movie star brother.

Nina, a onetime beauty queen, shared warm memories of the way her children played with each other during their childhood in Kentucky, in a 2006 interview with HGTV.

She laughingly recalled arriving home from work to see George and Ada having a party with their friends and goofing around with marshmallows.

The children, she said, ‘would lick one side of’ each marshmallow ‘and throw them at each other. When I came in, there were marshmallows stuck all over the room.’

Clooney has also painted a fond portrait of the gentle environment in rural Kentucky where he and Ada passed their childhoods.

‘All the things we see on cable news of people being unkind to one another doesn’t exist,’ he said in a 2019 interview with the Nashville paper the Tennessean. ‘They have to get along. I was really lucky to be raised in a small town like that.’

Ada married retired army captain Normal Zeidler in 1987 and raised two children with him before he died of a heart attack in October 2004.

The bride’s brother reportedly gave a scripture reading at the Zeidler wedding, where Rosemary is said to have treated the guests to a song.
