‘Meghan is fully behind this move’: Friends of the Sussexes say the Duchess wants to rekindle Harry’s English side, that the American Dream ‘might not be all that it was crack up to be’ – and that this really could be a ‘forever return’ for the family

And so, after all the drama and recriminations, the brickbats hurled and grievances aired; after all the glossy deals that have come – and gone – a remarkable royal U-turn hovers on the brink of completion.

Reverse Megxit, a manoeuvre once thought to be as likely as pigs taking flight, would appear to be just a couple of short weeks from completion.

Six years after they packed their bags, turning their backs on royal life in pursuit of the American dream (and freedom to reap the American dollar away from the confines of the Royal fold), Prince Harry, his wife Meghan and their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, are, apparently, ready to return to Britain.

They are expected to arrive in the UK to begin their new life within a fortnight, ahead of the start of the school term, which typically spans the first two weeks of September.

That such a move was on the cards was exclusively revealed by this newspaper last month, in the wake of the family’s flying – but seemingly very successful – visit to meet with the King and Queen for tea at Highgrove. It was coupled with a visit to Harry’s Spencer roots at Althorp, the stately home in Northamptonshire where his mother Princess Diana grew up and was buried.

‘What is absolutely crucial is that Harry never fell out of love with Britain – he fell out of love with the circumstances he found himself living in, and those are very different things,’ Harry’s friend Alex Rayner, who went with him on a charity trek to the North Pole in 2012, and remains in regular contact with him, told the Daily Mail.

Others speak of ‘an increasing and significant shift in sentiment, a feeling the American dream might not be all it was cracked up to be’.

And it’s not a one-sided sentiment either: ‘This is coming from Meghan as well as from him. I hear that Meghan is all for rekindling with and reconnecting with Harry’s English side. She is fully behind it,’ a friend said.

‘Harry has never stopped being British or feeling British.’

Not that the move back should be seen as a whim, however. Although the pace of the shift took everyone by surprise (the King, we are told, only learned of his youngest son’s plans on Sunday), everyone insists it’s a serious – and permanent – move.

‘It’s a significant return and I think a forever return if I’m being brutally honest,’ the friend added.

That’s quite an about-turn. And that July visit to the UK was, it is understood, pivotal to decisions being made – and to schools being visited – although plans were actually being made as long ago as May.

The family enjoyed their time, however brief, with the King and Queen at Highgrove and are understood to have loved being with the family of Harry’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

The children, for whom the UK must feel a distant place that Daddy talks about, may not have caught up with their uncle William (a sibling froideur yet to be addressed), nor with their cousins Princes George and Louis and Princess Charlotte, but they did apparently meet their aunts, uncles and cousins on their father’s mother’s side.

The visit to Europe also included time – documented by Meghan on Instagram – in Portugal where, in 2023, they were reported to have paid £6.3million for a holiday home in a fashionable corner of the country, known as the Iberian Hamptons, where Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie also lives.

Indeed, we are told that so advanced are the couple’s plans they have been looking at property ‘at quite a serious level’ and have been looking at schools for the children since before they broke up for the summer holidays.

As a source close to the prince tells us: ‘They started to talk seriously about it at the beginning of the year and come May started to look at schools.’

Prince Harry, of course, like his brother Prince William, began his own prep school experience as a boarder at Berkshire prep school Ludgrove, aged eight, later proceeding to Eton.

It is, however, unlikely that Archie, just a baby when his parents moved to California in March 2020, will be boarding anywhere any time soon.

The little boy, who speaks with an American accent and is sixth in line to the throne, will be, we are told, a ‘day boy’ at a mixed preparatory school and Lili, as she is affectionately known, will enter pre-prep at the same school.

As our source says: ‘This is a natural moment as Archie will start prep school in year one.

‘Harry knows from his time at Ludgrove that you want to start at the same time as everyone else; there is bonding and camaraderie.

‘Archie is really, really keen on sport and will play rugby and cricket which will be new to him. Harry has been throwing a rugby ball with him in the garden in Montecito; it’s a pretty strange concept if you have grown up with the NFL!’

The location of the chosen school has not yet been revealed, but it is understood that it is not in London. It is highly likely to be somewhere in the Cotswolds, a location long favoured by the couple.

If it were in the frame, there would be a significance in that particular location on multiple fronts.

Before their wedding, Harry and Meghan signed a two-year lease on a £2.5million Grade II-listed farmhouse on the 4,000 acre Great Tew Estate, also home to the Beckhams’ country house and location of trendy private members’ retreat Soho Farmhouse, where many of Meghan’s UK-based friends hang out.

Secondly – while far removed from Kensington, where Harry and Meghan once lived in ‘cosy’ Nottingham Cottage, Harry’s two-bedroom bachelor pad in the grounds of Kensington Palace and from Frogmore, the Grade II-listed home on the Windsor estate, on which they splashed £2.4million on renovation and lived in for less than a year – this well-heeled territory is within easy reach of Althorp, where his uncle, Earl Spencer resides.

Could it even be that Althorp serves as a staging post for the family?

Perhaps.

Call it hedging their bets or merely an abundance of caution, it does appear they will keep their Montecito mansion, although the local luxury property market was abuzz with speculation yesterday. What broker wouldn’t want that sale?

In the UK, we are told that, ‘initially, they are staying with someone’. But ‘they are looking to buy at a quite serious level which is a big commitment to putting down roots,’ says our source.

There have been grievances aired and wounds opened after Oprah (the interview) and Spare (the memoir) and Harry & Meghan on Netflix (the documentary). Relationships between Harry and his own family became strained, to say the least, indeed Harry and his brother are not thought to have spoken for years.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are said to feel deeply betrayed by the revelations made in Spare and in various interviews.

There has been precious little opportunity for rapprochement.

Harry, meanwhile, has pursued a legal challenge over the decision to remove his taxpayer-funded police protection, arguing that his family’s security arrangements require reassessment.

Until July’s visit, Meghan (who swept in privately with the children for tea with the in-laws after yet another kerfuffle over security arrangements), had not visited the UK since the Queen’s funeral, in September 2022.

The children, meanwhile, had not been here since the Platinum Jubilee, three months earlier, during which visit Lili celebrated her first birthday and met her paternal grandfather for the first time.

Friends say the Sussexes plan to visit the US regularly, where they have endeavoured to build commercial portfolios free from the shackles from life as working royals.

Harry currently earns money from business coaching company BetterUp and sustainable travel firm Travalyst and is also trying to expand the couple’s production company Archewell.

He is reportedly keen to spend more time supporting charities including WellChild, Scotty’s Little Soldiers and, of course, the Invictus community he founded with the first Invictus Games in 2014.

Meghan, meanwhile, runs her own lifestyle business, As Ever. The former Suits star recently appeared as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia, having hosted her own cooking and lifestyle show on Netflix and dipped her toe back into the world of acting for the first time in nearly a decade, with an upcoming cameo in the film Close Personal Friends, which also stars Lily Collins and Brie Larson.

How this all stacks up with a return to the UK remains unclear.

It was, of course, the late Queen who said Harry and Meghan could not maintain a ‘half-in, half-out’ approach to royal duties while also pursuing commercial opportunities.

Coincidental or not, there is certainly some business acumen in the timing of the Sussexes return.

‘Good to see Harry and Meghan achieve six full tax years of non-UK residency to manage the ‘temporary non-resident’ rules for capital gains tax,’ said accountant Nimesh Shah, CEO

of accountancy firm Blick Rothenberg on X. ‘They have clearly had some good tax advice and the timing of their move back to the UK is immaculate.’

The HMRC rules mean that if you leave the UK and come back within five years, you’re still liable for capital gains tax, but if you stay out of country for more than five years, you are not.

The tax benefits, it should be noted, would be even greater had Harry been a non-UK resident for ten consecutive tax years.

Whether Harry and Meghan are thinking about tax or business opportunities, as far as the Royal Household goes, there is said to be no interest in creating a ‘half-in, half-out’ arrangement for the duke and duchess.

The couple’s businesses will still be based in the US and the move is about something more personal. ‘Meghan has long been aware that Harry wants to ground the kids in the UK and give them the values of that particular education, to be a good loser, a humble winner and so on,’ the friend said.

There are other reasons too, he adds.

‘His father’s significant cancer also impacted on the decision; he realised the values of time and family.’

Quite how much discussion there has been between Harry and his family about the move remains uncertain.

As our source close to the Sussexes says: ‘I know that it [the move] was discussed when he came to the UK to see Diana’s grave; that visit was also about going to see schools. ‘What Harry didn’t say was that it was definitely this September, but at that point they were eyeing a move back.’

‘This is not about royal life at all; it’s about family and the children being educated in the UK.

‘Harry wants to ground his children in this country and to give them a strong understanding of where he grew up.

‘It’s not about him trying to recreate what they had in 2020, it’s about establishing their private family life.’

On the matter of family life, readers might recall that Harry has sometimes been less than complimentary about his stepmother, Queen Camilla.

She was reportedly hurt after he used Spare to describe her as ‘dangerous’ and a ‘villain’ who ‘left bodies in the streets’.

Note, then, what our source says now about his children’s step-grandmother: ‘He has a good relationship with his father – as a grandfather he is a softie, and Camilla is honestly a sweetheart.

‘Harry has been FaceTiming them since day dot with Archie and Lilibet.’

They also downplay the rift between Harry and William: ‘There is no real bad blood with his brother, and there are communications but a distance has grown between the families on either side of the Atlantic.’

As for Meghan, back in 2022, in an interview with US writer Allison P. Davis, she spoke a little about her journey and the ‘new chapter’ she was embarking on.

She made a handful of remarks about son Archie, one of them being about her fears over him attending school in the UK. She said she’d never be able to do school pick-up and drop-off without it being a royal photo call with a press pen of 40 people snapping pictures.

‘Sorry, I have a problem with that. That doesn’t make me obsessed with privacy. That makes me a strong and good parent protecting my child,’ she said.

Her fears, however, must have been allayed.

How the next new chapter unfolds remains to be seen.

Belfast nuclear bunker now home to one of NI’s most important heritage collections

It is protected as a Grade B1 listed building and is one of the best-preserved examples of its type in the UK

A nuclear bunker built in South Belfast during the height of the Cold War is now home to one of Northern Ireland’s most important heritage collections.

The new archive facility for the Historic Environment Record of Northern Ireland (HERoNI) was opened this week at the former Belfast War Room in Mount Eden Park, Belfast.

The project secures the future of one of Northern Ireland’s most important heritage collections while giving new life to a significant Cold War landmark. Constructed in the early 1950s, the Northern Ireland Regional War Room was one of just 13 purpose-built Regional War Rooms established across the United Kingdom during the Cold War.

Designed to co-ordinate civil defence and regional government functions in the event of a nuclear attack, the building is recognised as one of the best-preserved examples of its type anywhere in the UK and is protected as a Grade B1 listed building.

The repurposed facility will provide a permanent, sustainable home for HERoNI, which documents more than 45,000 historic sites through maps, plans, records and photographs.

Opening the facility this week, communities minister Gordon Lyons said: “The opening of the HERoNI Archive Store represents an important new chapter in the history of the Belfast War Room, ensuring the continued preservation of both this remarkable historic building and the irreplaceable archive collections it now houses for the benefit of future generations.

“There is a unique relationship between the building’s original purpose and its new role. Once designed to safeguard government and society during a period of international uncertainty, the former Belfast War Room will now protect the records, knowledge and cultural memory that help future generations understand Northern Ireland’s rich and diverse heritage.

“This project demonstrates how our historic buildings can be adapted in innovative and sustainable ways, preserving not only the structures themselves but also the invaluable collections they can support.

“I would also like to acknowledge the contribution of the consultants, contractors and Department for Communities staff whose expertise and commitment made this innovative project possible.”

Documents included in the archive include records relating to more than 45,000 historic places, including archaeological sites, historic monuments and buildings, as well as industrial, marine and defence heritage sites. Its collections include drawings, maps, plans, documents and hundreds of thousands of photographs spanning all periods of Northern Ireland’s history.

The transformation of the War Room highlights the potential for the sustainable reuse of historic buildings. While the structure’s original design posed significant challenges for redevelopment, its distinctive features, including 1.5 metre-thick reinforced concrete walls, a windowless design and a network of small internal rooms, have proven highly suitable for archival storage.

These characteristics help maintain stable environmental conditions essential for the long-term preservation of sensitive historic records.

The building will be open for tours as part of European Heritage Days in September 2026.

Swiss tourist jailed for being out on beach and calling Bali’s sacred day of silence ‘crazy’

Swiss tourist jailed for being out on beach and calling Bali’s sacred day of silence ‘crazy’

A Swiss tourist has been sentenced to a year in prison in Bali for posting videos boasting that he had broken the rules of Nyepi, the Balinese day of silence, and calling the tradition crazy.

Luzian Andrin Zgraggen, 26, was convicted at the Denpasar district court on Thursday of insulting a religious observance under Indonesia‘s new criminal code. The court found he had made the posts after staff at the villa where he was staying explained the restrictions to him.

“What the defendant did offended the Balinese people, hurt their faith and provoked public outrage,” said presiding judge, Tjokorda Putra Budi Pastima, according to the Associated Press. “The defendant must be held accountable for his actions.”

Nyepi, marking the Balinese new year, fell on 19 March this year.

To observe the day, nobody leaves their home or accommodation for 24 hours, except in an emergency. The beaches and streets remain empty apart from patrols enforcing the silence. The island’s airport closes and the internet is switched off.

Entertainment is restricted, even the use of electricity is discouraged, and residents stock up on food beforehand so they can stay indoors. The rules apply to everyone on the island whatever their religion or nationality.

Mr Zgraggen filmed himself walking to an empty beach during the observance, smiling at the camera, and in one clip called the scene crazy while swearing in the caption. The video, since removed, was widely reshared and drew anger from Balinese residents. Police traced him after public complaints and arrested him in March at a villa in Legian, a tourist area near Kuta beach.

He told the court, in a trial that began in June, that he had never meant to insult the holiday or the Balinese people, and that he made the posts while hungry and frustrated at being unable to get food during the shutdown, without fully understanding how far the restrictions went.

“I deeply regret what I did, I apologise to the Balinese people,” he said in his defence plea, according to AP.

Tourists, both foreign and Indonesian, have been detained or deported before for going outside during Nyepi, but those cases were generally settled without prosecution.

Bali received a record seven million foreign visitors last year, well above its pre-pandemic numbers, and the return of mass tourism has brought complaints from residents about the behaviour of some of them. Foreigners have been penalised for offensive acts at religious sites, for flouting traffic laws and for setting up enclaves that exclude locals, and the authorities have promised tighter scrutiny of visitors and a crackdown on those who misbehave.

Bali is a predominantly Hindu island in Indonesia, which has the largest Muslim population of any country.

Man United predictions for 2026/27 – title chances, player to watch and one we could regret!

Published

on

Manchester Evening News Icon

Is a Premier League title challenge really out of the question? Will the Old Trafford trophy cabinet be furnished with silverware this season? Who are the players to watch out for? And what is the one prediction for the 2026/27 season that our writers think could become reality, even though it sounds absolutely ridiculous?

Here are our predictions for the new season (and yes, we actively encourage you to send them to us in a few weeks’ time when they look very silly):

Where will United finish in the Premier League?

Tyrone Marshall: “I think there is a really open Premier League season and I’m struggling to call the top six at the moment. Manchester City are clearly attacking the window but the change there is huge and it does bring an unknown quantity. Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool could all improve under a new manager, while Arsenal have to show they can go again. United do have stability, I think they’ve been decent in pre-season, and I wouldn’t rule out a really successful season. But the Champions League brings a new challenge. I will say fourth, but with the caveat that they will feel closer to the title than they did last season because it will be a very close, very competitive season.”

Steven Railston: “I think fourth place sounds about right. Last season was interesting because Liverpool majorly dropped off after winning the title, Chelsea were a mess, and Tottenham were even worse. Each of those teams should be stronger in the new campaign, and Aston Villa always deserve respect with Unai Emery in charge, which means United will face stiffer competition to secure Champions League football. Like most, I think Arsenal and City will finish first and second again, and I suspect a team may leapfrog United to finish third, but you can guarantee that it’s going to be tight around the European places.”

Ross Jackson: “There’s been a lot of upheaval at City but I still think they’ll finish in the top two, as will Arsenal, so I can’t see United finishing higher than third. A lot has been made of the number of games that will be added to United’s schedule this season, and rightly so, but Carrick is no stranger to the churn of two-game weeks, albeit at a different level in the Championship. I fancy Chelsea to take advantage of their lack of European football and enjoy a strong campaign, so I’ll go Chelsea in third but United will get fourth.”

How far will United go in the Champions League?

Tyrone Marshall: “It feels like they need at least a couple of knockout ties. It still baffles me that Bruno Fernandes has played one knockout tie in the Champions League with United and he’s been here for more than six years. They will get out of the league phase, but obviously finishing in the top eight is the aim. The Premier League teams managed that last season and I think United can do it. A kind last-16 tie and I’m going to say they reach the quarter-finals.”

Steven Railston: “It’s practically impossible to exit the Champions League group stage after the competition’s format was revamped to a league table. Something would have gone spectacularly wrong if United do not progress to the knockout rounds. And from there, they will be hostage to the draw, but they should have enough quality to reach the Round of 16, although I’m not sure they will go further than that.”

Ross Jackson: “Finishing in the top eight of the league phase certainly isn’t out of the question, though it would be an impressive feat from a club that hasn’t troubled the knockout stages of the competition since 2022. A place in the playoffs is far more likely, and United should make it through to the knockout rounds. I can’t see them going much further than the last 16.”

Will United win a trophy in the 2026/27 season?

Tyrone Marshall: “They’ve already won the Snapdragon Cup and Boyle Sports Cup in pre-season! Anyway, I’m not sure they will but I don’t think that has to count against Carrick. Let’s be honest, domestic cup competitions do depend on the luck of the draw and I just think at some point the schedule might catch up with United. They will have a good run in at least one of the cups, but there will be no silverware.”

Steven Railston: “United must target reaching the finals of both domestic cup competitions following a season in which they exited both at the first hurdle. Carrick will be aware that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time at the club is remembered in a mixed light due to his failure to win a trophy, so I expect to see relatively strong teams picked in the early rounds of the cups. With that in mind, I can see United making the League Cup final, which is traditionally the easier competition to win, and then it will be down to 90 minutes at Wembley. I think they can do it.”

Ross Jackson: “So we’ve already taken the Premier League and the Champions League out of the equation. In terms of the domestic cups, Carrick knows all too well the importance of United continuing to pick up silverware. That being said, it has been so long since United made a splash in the latter rounds of the Champions League and with a top four/five finish being so imperative to what he is building at Old Trafford, he’s likely to rotate very heavily in the cup competitions and United are likely to come unstuck at some point. It’s another season without a trophy for me.”

Who is the United player to watch out for in the 2026/27 season?

Tyrone Marshall: “I’m going to go for Matheus Cunha. I think all three forwards signed in 2025 had good first seasons, but if this United squad are going to win the league, they all need to find another level to go to. Cunha might have it in him. He rose to the occasion at the World Cup and as a Brazilian No.10 strikes me as a big-game player. He could really relish those Champions League nights.”

Steven Railston: “Shea Lacey is the correct answer. Lacey was impressive in a handful of senior cameos last season, and it has felt like he is coming to the boil throughout pre-season this summer. The youngster can play on the right wing and in attacking midfield. There has been a buzz about Lacey in youth circles since he was a boy, and he can announce himself to the rest of the world with more senior involvement. I think he’ll provide goals and assists, and entertain supporters when he’s on the pitch. He is a genuine talent.”

Ross Jackson: “You’d usually associate this kind of question with a youngster who could enjoy a breakthrough campaign, but I’m going for Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroon international has looked sharp in United’s friendlies and has had the benefit of a full pre-season campaign with Carrick, having not been part of the World Cup. He has excelled as a No.9 and looks set to be handed plenty of minutes down the middle next season. If he can hit double figures again then it will be another successful campaign, but don’t be surprised if he goes up a gear in 2026/27.”

Give us one United prediction for the 2026/27 season that might get laughed at, but you genuinely believe could happen…

Tyrone Marshall: “United will be in the title race for a long time. I’m not sure they will win it, although I don’t think it’s impossible, but I do think they will start well. The fixture list is kind, pre-season has been sensible and they should hit the ground running. I actually think they will be top of the league after Everton away on September 6 and we will spend a good few months talking about a possible title challenge.”

Steven Railston: “Amad will be in contention to win the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award. He contributed just two goals and four assists last season, which was really disappointing. He has been written off by some, but I think Amad will bounce back to his best and show everyone what he is capable of again. He was brilliant for the Ivory Coast at the World Cup and should have returned to Carrington feeling 10ft tall. With a smile on his face, he can regain his sparkle and contend for the United POTY award.”

Ross Jackson: “This is a half Liverpool/half United prediction: United will finish at least 20 points ahead of Liverpool this season. For context, United haven’t finished that far ahead of their rivals since they last won the title in 2013. As has already been covered, I don’t think United will win the title, but they will be in the conversation for a while, and I really think those on the red half of Merseyside should be worried about the direction their team are heading. Liverpool will have a shocker this season and the gap between them and United will be as big as it has been for a long, long time.”

All predictions were made before United kicked off their Premier League campaign with two weeks of the transfer window remaining*

Teacher tells of horror crash and air ambulance rescue just days after charity abseil

Published

on

Daily Record

“I didn’t know what was wrong with me, but I knew it was the top half of my body that was really hurting.”

A headteacher who abseiled from the roof of Murrayfield Stadium to raise money for a lifesaving air ambulance was stunned when the very same service came to her rescue just four days later. Kat, 50, had taken part in Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance’s biggest-ever fundraising event in Edinburgh on May 16.

But could never have imagined she would soon find herself relying on the service she had helped support. Just four days after completing the challenge, the Turriff Academy deputy head was driving home near Banff when a campervan suddenly pulled out of a junction directly in front of her.

Kate was travelling at around 50mph along the A95 and the force of the collision flipped the campervan on its side. The front of Kate’s truck was badly crushed.

Kate was able to climb from her truck to safety and was relieved to see those in the campervan managed to get out safely, but she quickly realised she was in significant pain and needed to sit down. An off-duty newly qualified paramedic happened to be nearby and stopped to help, sitting in the back of Kate’s vehicle and holding her head steady.

She was suffering pain in her neck and chest and was unsure of the extent of her injuries. Kate said: “I didn’t know what was wrong with me, but I knew it was the top half of my body that was really hurting.”

Police Scotland and ambulance crews arrived at the scene before Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA) helicopter landed nearby. The specialist crew assessed Kate and carefully prepared her for the flight to hospital, as the extent of her injuries could not be established without a scan.

The teacher was transferred to the helicopter by a stretcher with a vacuum mattress to support her head. She was flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in just 15 minutes.

It was only then that the remarkable coincidence of the previous few days really hit home. “I just couldn’t believe the irony of having to need the service I had just been fundraising for a few days before,” she said.

“I do endurance horse riding and I ride on my own a lot in very remote areas. I knew if I ever got into trouble that SCAA would be able to reach me when a land ambulance couldn’t.

“But I didn’t expect to have need of them for this type of incident.”

Once she arrived at hospital, the adrenaline began to wear off and Kate was given morphine to help manage her pain. A CT scan and further tests revealed she had suffered a fractured sternum and severe whiplash to her neck.

Kate was able to return to work around a month later and soon got back on her horse, although she said her recovery took time and she has been left with anxiety when driving. She remains hugely grateful for the treatment she received – and says the speed of the helicopter made a huge difference given how far she lives from Aberdeen.

“The SCAA crew were calm, with a good sense of humour, and it was clear they knew what they were doing,” she said. “Everything was so quick and professional.

“Where we live it’s an hour on the road to Aberdeen…the difference a helicopter can make is massive.”

Liam and Noel Gallagher ‘force BBC to take down “excruciating” celebrity Wonderwall World Cup tribute after failing to seek correct permissions’

Liam and Noel Gallagher reportedly forced the BBC to take down an 'excruciating' celebrity Wonderwall World Cup tribute after failing to seek correct permissions

Oasis have caused a ‘riot’ after they reportedly forced BBC bosses to take down a World Cup tribute video which featured celebrities singing the Gallagher brothers’ hit song Wonderwall.

Featuring stars including Stephen Fry, Maya Jama, Claudia Winkleman and Micah Richards, the BBC had hoped the clip would go viral after the song became synonymous with England’s wins during the tournament.

Some fans described the footage as ‘excruciating’ and likened it to a ‘car crash’ after catching a glimpse before the clip was taken down.

And it has now been revealed that Liam and Noel Gallagher‘s legal team reportedly demanded its removal as the BBC hadn’t sought the correct permissions to use it on social media.

A source said: ‘The BBC dropped an enormous ball with the Oasis video as it caused a riot.

‘BBC Sport saw all the traction Wonderwall was getting and decided to spend a lot of time, and a fair bit of cash, getting all these stars to sing or speak along. Their idea was it would go viral but instead Oasis’s legal team shot it down.’

They told The Sun: ‘Apparently the BBC didn’t seek the correct permissions to use the song on social media so they didn’t have a leg to stand on.’

The project was a huge waste of time and money for the television company.

BBC Sport boss Alex Kay-Jelski failed to save the video despite his attempts to fight Oasis’s demands to take it down.

The video began with Micah singing the iconic lyrics before others including Sara Cox, Michael McIntyre, Emma Raducanu, Ross Kemp and Lee Mack also chimed in.

Wonderwall became somewhat of an anthem during this year’s world cup, with England players Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham encouraging the crowd to belt the lyrics after each win.

The BBC declined to comment when approached by the Daily Mail. Oasis’s representatives have been contacted.

The news comes just days after Oasis released the official trailer for their hotly anticipated Disney documentary Oasis: Don’t Look Back In Anger.

Set to be released in cinemas worldwide on September 11, the film charts Liam and Noel’s triumphant reunion tour, Oasis Live ‘25, one of the most anticipated rock n roll comebacks of our time.

From the creator of Peaky Blinders Steven Knight, advance tickets for the documentary are now available to buy on Fandango.

As the trailer follows the build-up from the idea to reunite to the band taking to the stage, Noel admits: ‘I just don’t see myself on stage with Liam.

Some fans described the footage as 'excruciating' and likened it to a 'car crash' after catching a glimpse before the clip was taken down

Should musicians have the final say over how their songs are used in major public events?

‘I don’t really want to go back with the tension, will it fall apart again?’

As moments from the historic tour play out, he adds: ‘The songs are one thing, but I’d forgotten what he [Liam] means to people.

‘I certainly wasn’t prepared for the intense outpouring… a sense of what it meant to people.’

Later in the trailer, as the brothers walked on stage hand in hand, Liam adds: ‘We have got a chance to change the narrative of the band.’

The documentary features Liam and Noel’s first joint interview in over 20 years and is also set for release on Hulu and Disney+ in the US later this year.

The film is an unapologetically uplifting account of the biggest musical event of 2025, capturing the experience and emotions of the band and their fans across the world.

The unique perspective includes rehearsal, backstage and onstage access.

Alongside the band’s sold-out world tour, the film also explores the profound emotional impact of this phenomenal global cultural moment and what their music means to audiences and generations worldwide.

First deportees arrive in troubled Haiti after TPS ends

First deportees arrive in troubled Haiti after TPS ends

CAP-HAITIEN, Haiti (AP) — The U.S. deported more than 160 people to Haiti on Thursday for the first time since the Trump administration won a legal battle to end Temporary Protected Status for some 350,000 Haitians.

The plane landed in the northern Haitian city of Cap-Haitien because the main international airport in Port-au-Prince is considered too dangerous. The U.S. government currently has a ban on U.S. commercial flights to Haiti’s capital through early September because of ongoing gang violence.

The deportees were clad in white, and many covered their faces out of safety as journalists filmed their arrival. Nearly all declined to talk, with some fearing being targeted by gangs that control an estimated 70% of Port-au-Prince and swaths of land beyond.

The deportees included TPS holders and Haitians who had served prison sentences, said Jean Négot Bonheur Delva, director general of Haiti’s National Office of Migration.

“It is not the Haitian state that asks for them to be sent back,” he said. “Our mission is to welcome migrants of forced return. … We welcome them with the aim of accompanying them to their home.”

Deported Haitians search for a home

Delva noted that some of the deportees were not born in Haiti, although they are of Haitian descent.

He said that several deportees planned to travel to Haiti’s southern region, a dangerous journey because gangs control the main routes leading to that area and are known to randomly open fire on vehicles passing through.

Others are going to Haiti’s western region, he said.

“There is one migrant who knows nothing about Haiti because he said he was coming from the Dominican Republic; that’s where he was born,” Delva said.

He said the government would attempt to reunify him with any potential relatives in Haiti or the Dominican Republic, where his mother and father live.

Immigration officials in Haiti on Thursday offered deportees a maximum of $65 and something to drink and eat.

“Those who cannot reach their homes today, we will host them in secure spaces and the next day the process will continue until all migrants return home as they should,” Delva said.

Delva did not say how many of the 161 deportees were TPS holders who had been living and working legally in the U.S. since 2010.

In late June, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the TPS program to end, affecting some 1 million people from more than a dozen countries.

The cases went back to the lower courts, but by late July, the government had not extended work permits for Haitians.

On Aug. 5, a federal judge in Washington, D.C., lifted an order preventing deportations of Haitians on Temporary Protected Status, which was effectively a formality after the Supreme Court ruling in June.

Activists warn Haiti is too dangerous for deportees

Activists have warned that Haiti is currently too dangerous and doesn’t have enough resources to help those being deported to a country of nearly 12 million people, of which more than half need humanitarian assistance because of surging gang violence and deepening poverty, hunger and violence.

Gang violence already has displaced a record 1.5 million people across Haiti, where more than 3,100 people were reported killed from January to June and another 1,189 injured, according to U.N. statistics.

One deportee briefly spoke to The Associated Press as he arrived in Cap-Haitien. He identified himself as Jean Diane Louis and said he left Haiti when he was 5 years old. He said his family lives in New York City and that he was sentenced to 19 years in prison for an unspecified crime he asserted he did not commit.

“Then ICE came and took me without questioning me,” Louis said. “They just sent me here.”

As gang violence persists, Haitian migrants in the U.S. continue to be arrested and deported.

On Thursday, U.S. authorities arrested a popular Haitian pastor at a gas station in Springfield, Ohio, according to Springfield G92, a faith-based group supporting Haitian immigrants. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested a second Haitian man who was with him.

The pastor, Gilbert Joubert Adrien, was being held by immigration authorities in Ohio, said Marjory Wentworth, a spokesperson for Springfield G92. She said ICE has been a heavy presence in recent days in Springfield, a city of about 60,000 people that gained attention when U.S. President Donald Trump said falsely during his 2024 campaign that Haitian residents there ate dogs.

Haiti’s Group Supporting Refugees and Returnees has decried the deportations.

“Haiti is not ready to receive this number of migrants who were in the TPS program,” it said in a statement Thursday.

The group noted that more than 140,000 Haitians have been deported from neighboring countries, including the Dominican Republic, in the first half of the year alone.

“We note that there are no government measures in place to adequately assist these migrants,” the group said.

It added that many of those deported “have seen their dreams go up in smoke; the bonds they had already made in their communities are broken. Many are experiencing family separation.”

The U.S. had conducted about one deportation flight to Haiti since December 2023, according to Human Rights First’s ICE Flight Monitor, which tracks flight data. Since December 2025, flights have originated in Alexandria, Louisiana, a hub for ICE deportation flights, with a stop in Miami on the way to Cap-Haitien International Airport.

Glasgow transformed into Gotham City for filming of The Batman sequel

The film set has taken over Glasgow’s Bothwell Street as final preparations are made for filming.

A glazing of snow sits in the middle of the junction between Bothwell and Wellington Street, and Christmas wreaths and a tree can be seen in the windows and in front of a Gotham City building.

The Bavaria Brauhaus on the corner of Wellington Street has temporarily been transformed into the Office of the City Clerk of the City of Gotham, and the bus stop just in front of it has fake timetables for Batman’s fictional city.

A camera crane and a variety of lighting and filming equipment were also seen on the streets around Glasgow city centre.

Eager fans gathered along the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of the batmobile or part of the action.

Bystanders took pictures with Gotham City signs and there was plenty of excitement about when rehearsals or filming might begin.

Filming will take place in a number of locations around the city this month, with road closures expected in the Newton Street and North Street area.

Earlier this week, Gotham Police Swat vehicles were photographed in preparation for filming, alongside an American-style Gotham Police car and large lorries.

But there has been excitement closer to home after a major bridge North West bridge has been transformed for filming on the upcoming Batman sequel.

The original was filmed throughout Liverpool

The Silver Jubilee Bridge in Runcorn was covered in artificial snow as crews filmed scenes for the latest instalment featuring the Caped Crusader.

Trucks sprayed fake snow across the iconic crossing on Saturday, creating an unusual sight in the height of summer.

Directed by Matt Reeves, the latest instalment in the Batman franchise sees the return of Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, alongside Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

The cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Jayme Lawson and Charles Dance.

The movie is the follow-up to Reeves’s 2022 film The Batman, which took more than 772 million US dollars (£570 million) at the global box office.

It is due to be released in cinemas on February 18 2028.

Glasgow has doubled as the fictional Gotham City a number of times previously, including in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 film The Dark Knight Rises, The Batman (2022) and The Flash (2023).

More than a decade ago, Kim told the Daily Mail that she wanted to ’embrace aging.’

But now she has admitted that she is all about ‘battling aging in every way I can,’ with the help of Botox and fillers.

However, going under the needle, isn’t entirely in vain for the Emmy-nominated star.

She told The Sunday Times: ‘It’s not just a vanity thing. I play a certain kind of woman who looks a certain kind of way. And professionally I am looking after myself.’

The star admitted thanks to her financial situation, she can basically do whatever she wants to her face and body.

Still, she warns that the end goal is to continue looking like the Kim Cattrall we all know.

The actress added that she wants to ‘look like the best version’ of herself and encourages anyone thinking of cosmetic surgery to find the ‘right surgeon.’

She added: ‘It can’t be emphasized enough. You want to look like you!’

Last year, Kim gave a peek inside her skincare routine as she was the beauty muse for Lancôme’s Rénergie Triple Serum Retinol.

She uses it for a ‘boost of love and attention,’ citing vitamin C, peptides and pure retinol as the hero ingredients.

‘Look we all know this is an ad, but this will fade your wrinkles — not your smile,’ she said in a Mother’s Day-themed ad for the product.

As for makeup, her approach has changed over the years.

She now uses less in her day-to-day life, focusing on using a good sunscreen and moisturizer daily.

‘As I get older, less really is a lot more. I don’t want to start wearing a lot of makeup,’ she told People.

‘I want to feel my skin being able to breathe and protect it and support it.’

When it comes to maintaining her incredible figure, Kim likes to keep very active.

She told Woman and Home: ‘I try to do cardio three or four times a week.

‘And I’ve had injuries in the past so I also do ‘physio yoga’ – a combination of physio and yoga so I’m constantly trying to rehabilitate my body.

‘The older I get, the less jarring I want my exercise to be and I find that a long walk is equally as helpful and satisfying as a three-mile jog.’

Does society put too much pressure on women to fight aging, or is self-care empowering?

Kim doesn’t want to injure her body by running too much, so the walks help her get the cardio exercise that she needs. She also enjoys swimming.

The actress credits ‘physio yoga’ for helping to reduce and manage her chronic knee pain and injuries from stage rehearsals and intense filming.

As for food, the actress follows the anti-inflammatory Perricone Diet to maintain her youthful glow.

She likes to eat almost anything, especially pasta with garlic, dry herbs, stewing meat, and vegetables.

She told Woman and Home: ‘I have a big appetite and I like to eat, and staying on top of that is about knowing myself and saying, ‘I can eat that today, but tomorrow I’m not going to’.

‘And I’m always aware from gaining and losing weight for parts that the time in the gym trying to lose extra weight is really hard work! I always have that in my mind.’

Ahead of her 70th birthday, the actress opened up about the biggest lesson she learned in her 60s.

She told New Beauty: ‘Patience and looking back on what I feel I’ve accomplished, and enjoying that success and surrounding myself with people that want the best for me personally and professionally.

‘That sounds like, ‘well, why wouldn’t you, of course,’ but sometimes that’s taken for granted, and I don’t think we should take our girlfriends or our mentors for granted because they’ve been there, and that knowledge, you can’t find in a doctor’s office.’

Man Utd news: Michael Carrick to get transfer gift as medical booked for double deal

Published

Daily Mirror

Manchester United are reportedly involved in several transfer dealings as Michael Carrick looks to improve his squad ahead of the new Premier League season

Manchester United are set for a busy end to the summer transfer window. Manager Michael Carrick remains focused on strengthening his squad ahead of deadline day on September 1.

United have submitted a bid worth up to £65m for Brighton star Carlos Baleba as part of the club’s midfield overhaul. He would become the third midfielder to head to Old Trafford this summer, after the completion of moves for Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.

The 22-year-old midfielder would become the team’s most expensive signing of the window so far. However, Carrick’s side are set to recoup some of their transfer outlay through a sell-on clause which is expected to be activated this summer.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils look set to lose out on two academy prospects to Arsenal. Here, Mirror Football looks at some of the biggest transfer stories surrounding United.

Michael Carrick to get transfer gift

United are set to receive an unexpected gift in the transfer window, with former defender Willy Kambwala all set to leave Villarreal. The 21-year-old made 10 appearances for United before joining the Spanish club in 2024.

The Manchester Evening News reports that United included a “sizeable” sell-on fee when dealing with Villarreal two years ago. Italian club Como are claimed to be leading the race for Kambwala’s signature, while La Liga club Osasuna have also shown interest.

The situation means United will receive a small sum when Kambwala leaves Villarreal, as he is not expected to command a significant fee, which reduces the amount heading back to Old Trafford. The defender has made 23 total appearances since leaving United, with injury limiting his minutes last season.

With United set to benefit from the sell-on fee in Kambwala’s deal, the club have recently included the same clause when selling academy stars this summer. Tyler Fredricson’s move to Lausanne-Sport also included a “high percentage” sell-on fee, with a similar clause inserted in Radek Vitek’s switch to Middlesbrough.

Man Utd set for double deal

Elsewhere, United are reportedly set to lose academy prospects James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye to Arsenal. Winger Scanlon, 19, spent part of last season with Swindon Town, while defender Ogunneye, 20, was loaned to Newport County until returning in January.

The Evening Standard reports that Scanlon is a serious target for the Gunners, who have focused on snapping up several young prospects this summer. It is claimed that further talks with United are planned over the Gibraltar international, with personal terms not expected to cause any issues.

It is added that Arsenal are closing in on a free transfer for Ogunneye, who was reportedly set to undergo his medical on Thursday, with United retaining a 40 per cent sell-on clause. The defender is set to join the Gunners’ Under-21 side and will also be given chances to train with the first team.
