Oldbury stabbing recap: Huge police cordon outside Wetherspoon pub as teen fights for life
A councillor has told how he rushed to help the teenager who had been stabbed before emergency services arrived.
Tuli Zefi, Reform councillor for Langley Ward, was driving past when he witnessed the incident on Market Street, Oldbury.
Winding down his window, Cllr Zefi says he shouted at a group to ‘pack it in’ before they ran off and left the 19-year-old who had been stabbed, reported BirminghamLive.
He said: “Today (July 2), on my way to the Council House, I witnessed something that no one should ever have to see. At first, I thought a group of young lads were just messing around. I wound my window down and shouted for them to pack it in.
“A group of them ran off, and when I asked the remaining young man if he was okay, he told me he thought he’d been stabbed. I got out of my car, saw the injury, and did what I could to help until the ambulance arrived. I stayed with him, tried to stop the bleeding, and kept talking to him to reassure him.”

Video in case against Pooh Shiesty shows him pressing for record label release, prosecutors say
Prosecutors say a video shows rapper Pooh Shiesty pressing for his release from fellow rapper Gucci Mane‘s record label while an armed man blocks a door during an alleged robbery at a Texas music studio in January.
A court record shows the video was submitted as evidence in federal court in Dallas, where Pooh Shiesty and eight others have been indicted on kidnapping and extortion charges. Prosecutors say the victims were robbed at gunpoint after traveling to the city to discuss Pooh Shiesty’s recording contract with Mane’s 1017 Records.
The victims have only been referred to by their initials in court documents. One, R.D., is described as the owner of 1017 Records. Mane’s legal name is Radric Delantic Davis. The song “Crash Dummy,” which Gucci Mane released this spring, includes the lyrics: “I thought it was a business meeting, but it was a set up.”
The court document was filed by prosecutors in response to a motion Pooh Shiesty filed last month proposing home confinement, arguing that the evidence against him did not warrant keeping him in custody pending trial, as was ordered by a judge in April.
But prosecutors said in their filing that the motion from Pooh Shiesty, whose legal name is Lontrell Williams Jr., should be denied and that evidence against him was “extraordinarily strong.”
Prosecutors said they have the cooperation of all five victims and witnesses in the case and cellphone location data. There is also surveillance video placing the defendants at the scene, according to prosecutors, in addition to the video of the owner of 1017 Records being forced to declare that Pooh Shiesty was “dropped” from his label.
Prosecutors said in the filing that just before that video was made, Pooh Shiesty produced a printed contractual release for the record label owner to sign. The man initially refused but signed after Pooh Shiesty allegedly pointed an AK-style pistol his head.
Prosecutors also said BIG30, whose legal name is Rodney Wright, recorded the video with his cellphone while another defendant blocked the door holding a firearm that resembled an AK-47 style rifle.
According to prosecutors, Pooh Shiesty robbed the record label owner of about $450,000 worth of items including his wedding band, a watch, a pair of earrings and cash.
Prosecutors have said that at the time of the alleged confrontation, Pooh Shiesty was on home confinement for a prior firearms conspiracy conviction out of Florida and was required to wear an electronic monitoring device.
Attorneys for Pooh Shiesty and BIG30 did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment Thursday.
Gucci Mane is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of trap music alongside fellow Atlanta rappers T.I. and Jeezy. He emerged in the mid-2000s with his breakout single “Icy” and went on to build a vast catalog.

Trump claims he didn’t know about crypto moves which made him more than $1 billion last year
In the wake of financial disclosures showing that President Donald Trump made more than $1 billion while in office from his family’s cryptocurrency businesses, the president is defending his ethics record.
“I could know about it,” Trump told CNBC on Thursday during an Oval Office interview. “I didn’t. I mean, there’s nothing illegal. There’s nothing wrong with it.”
Since returning to office, the president says his businesses have been managed by a trust controlled by his children without his involvement.
Prior to the election, President Trump and his current special envoy Steve Witkoff were among the founders of the Trump family’s crypto firm World Liberty Financial.

Fmr. special counsel Jack Smith laments Trump’s ‘attack on rule of law’ in first interview
Former special counsel Jack Smith, appearing in his first on-air interview since Donald Trump was reelected, told MS NOW’s Nicole Wallace that “we are facing an attack on the rule of law that is different in kind and scope to anything I’ve seen in my lifetime.”
He said he wanted to appear on air to “celebrate the public servants who do this work” ahead of America’s 250th anniversary, including prosecutors and other federal law enforcement officials who were fired or pushed out of their jobs under the Trump administration.
“It angers [me] to see them victimized, demonized, for doing their jobs,” he said. “I think it’s really important that we stand up for them and let them know there are a lot of people out there who back them, who are with them.”
Prosecutors targeted by the administration’s “retribution” campaign — including prosecutors in Minnesota who left office after refusing to go after the family members of Renee Good — “gave up a lot.”
“Part of this campaign is to make people feel isolated and feel like they don’t have people backing them up,” he said. “I want to express my support.”

Trump compares Iran to ‘spoiled child’
During an interview on Thursday, President Donald Trump mocked his Iranian counterparts, despite the U.S. still struggling to reach a final peace deal to end the Iran war.
“They’ve had their own way for 47 years, like if you’re a spoiled child and you’ve had your way for many years with your parents, and all of a sudden they come down hard on you,” Trump told CNBC. “It takes you a little while to get used to.”
“They pushed the countries around, and they pushed the United States around,” Trump added of Iran’s role in the Middle East, name-checking the Obama administration, which achieved largely the same conditions with its Iran deal as the Trump White House is pursuing now.

Trump says he feels ‘badly’ for sons after conflict of interest criticisms
President Trump admitted on Thursday he sometimes feels bad about how his presidency has impacted his sons’ business career, as critics regularly have accused Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump of profiting off their connections to the White House.
“I feel badly in a way for my kids,” Trump said during an Oval Office interview with CNBC.
“I tell my kids, stay away from as much as you can stay away from, but they also have a life, you know,” he added.
The Trump sons appear not to have entirely heeded their father’s advice.
They have been involved in a string of deals impacted by federal policy and financing in areas including crucial minerals and military contracts.

Ex-Olympian’s attorneys says his client is ‘innocent’
Attorneys for Davey Hearn, the former Olympian charged with destroying property for allegedly vandalizing the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
“Davey Hearn is innocent. These charges are outrageous and should be alarming to every American. This indictment reflects the administration’s effort to shift blame for their own failures,” Hearn’s counsel said.
“On the eve of our nation’s Independence Day, Americans should be deeply concerned by the misuse of government power against an ordinary citizen based on a concocted narrative. The justice system exists to determine facts, not to provide political cover.”
The attorneys include Norm Eisen, co-founder and executive chair of Democracy Defenders Fund and Mary Dohrmann, Senior Counsel at Washington Litigation Group.

Hearn has repeatedly denied vandalizing the monument, which has been plagued by algae blooms with the recently applied “American flag blue” sealant peeling from the basin.

Sabrina Carpenter, Donna Kelce spotted in NYC amid Swift wedding rumours
Mickey Blank, a celebrity photographer who has been working in New York for over 10 years, told BBC Newsbeat that Madison Square Garden is currently surrounded by members of the press but there’s not actually much to see.
Despite rumours of a red-carpet reception for the expected A-list guests, Blank said she’s not expecting a parade of big-name arrivals.
“It’s like Pentagon-level secrecy,” she said.
“You cannot go in, you cannot see anything.”
The arena boasts underground parking that allows people to arrive in almost secrecy, but the BBC spotted a large white canopy tent being set up in front of the arena where many guests are expected to arrive.
Many VIPs though, including Swift and Kelce, are expected to enter through the underground entrance for privacy.
“Your chances of seeing Taylor Swift are, like, lower than zero,” she said.
She added that one of the biggest challenges facing those preparing the venue will be all the recent events that just were hosted there. event that was just staged there.
Blank attended a darts championships at the arena earlier this week, filled with beer-drinking fans, many dressed in costume.
“The floor was so sticky, I could barely move,” she said.
Days before that, the arena hosted a concert for the rock band the Bleachers. Earlier last month, the arena also hosted parties and basketball games when the New York Knicks won the NBA Championship.
Transforming the arena into a wedding venue will be a feat.
“I cannot imagine the preparation that goes into that,” Blank said.
