Among the housekeeping tasks that the couple will be responsible for are the daily cleaning and care of rooms, the making and changing of beds, and the preparation of the house for guests and entertaining. You will also be expected to dust, polish, and vacuum, as well as maintain household stocks.

The successful applicants must also take full responsibility for household laundry and the organisation of wardrobes and linen cupboards. Washing, drying, folding, and ironing are also important elements of the job, as is the care of various delicate garments and fabrics.

Cooking tasks will revolve around the preparation of simple and nutritious family meals, meaning you will cook breakfasts, lunches, and dinners as required. You will also be catering for informal family entertaining, and will be expected to shop for provisions and keep the kitchen clean and organised.

Another important element of the positions is driving, as you will be chauffeuring family members to appointments and other destinations You will be expected to keep the family’s vehicles in a clean and presentable condition, as well as ensure that servicing, MOTs, and routine maintenance are arranged.

Other responsibilities include carrying out basic household and estate maintenance, minor repairs and general upkeep, and monitoring visitors and deliveries. There are also various gardening tasks involved with the positions, such as regular weeding, pruning, and planting.

According to the job listing, the ideal applicants will have previous experience working together as a couple in a private household or similar setting. The candidates must also possess strong housekeeping and organisational skills, as well as a good attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Other desirable attributes include practical gardening and maintenance skills, the ability to cook high-quality family meals, and a warm and professional disposition. It is also important that applicants possess full clean driving licences and a “genuine understanding of privacy and confidentiality”.

Celtic were beaten 5-4 on aggregate by LASK in the Champions League play-off round on Tuesday night and manager Martin O’Neill knows his side will have to respond against Falkirk

Martin O’Neill reckons Celtic must demonstrate the traditional Hoops “character” when they face Falkirk this weekend, following their disastrous Champions League play-off exit to LASK on Tuesday evening.

The Scottish champions had built a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg in Glasgow, and captain Callum McGregor’s deflected effort after 21 minutes in Austria appeared to put the tie beyond doubt.

Yet an extraordinary capitulation saw the Austrian side storm back to triumph 5-4 on aggregate following extra-time, condemning Celtic to the less financially rewarding and less prestigious league phase of the Europa League.

O’Neill, whose initial stint as permanent Celtic boss ran from 2000 to 2005, secured the William Hill Premiership crown and Scottish Gas Scottish Cup last term, but he’s well aware that supporters, still smarting from missing out on Champions League football, will demand a strong showing against the Bairns on Saturday.

“I’ve known this from my time at this football club, you’re always one game away from a crisis, and that’s the case,” said the 74-year-old Celtic manager, who disclosed that McGregor sat out training due to a stomach complaint, though there’s optimism he’ll be available.

“It’s a major disappointment to get knocked out of the competition, particularly carrying a lead and certainly with 60 minutes to go and we are looking in real control of the game.

“They’ve had a couple of skirmishes but we have had the better chances in the game. And to let it slip in the manner in which we did is, that is my responsibility.

“And so we have to go and and really show, I know it’s an overused word, the character. We have to show a lot of character.

“And there’ll be moments in the game tomorrow, misplaced passes, allowing Falkirk in, shots at goal and maybe even going a goal behind in the game, where the crowd are going to get really restless. Absolutely, so we have to fight that.

“But that’s been the case even in my days with (Henrik) Larsson and (Neil) Lennon, (Paul) Lambert, it was the case then, so that doesn’t change. And you know what? I wouldn’t expect it to. We can’t live in laurels for the rest of our time.

“Last season was just fantastic one of the great moments but it’s gone, and I’ve had some really great moments in my time, and I’ve had some real lows, like everything else.

“One of the great highs was us winning the league (last season) and one of the major lows was losing this game the other night. It doesn’t get any easier at 74 years of age. In fact, it gets worse.”

Meanwhile, in the Europa League draw, Celtic face away trips to Benfica, Union SG, Omonia and Torreense, while hosting Marseille, Ferencvaros, Celta Vigo and Besiktas at home.

O’Neill said: “Yes, gosh, it is really tough. I probably still haven’t got over the game on Tuesday night, but it’s something to look forward to. Some really big games there.

“I’ve got the list here in my pocket and Marseille and Benfica, I never read any further after that.

“But, listen, it’s not the day for fun and games, Tuesday was really disappointing, we just have to try and get over it if we can.”

Richard Osman has reflected on his challenging upbringing as he admitted his mum ‘struggled forever’ after his dad walked out on the family after confessing to an extra-marital affair.

The TV star was just nine years old when his dad David announced he was having an affair before leaving his wife Brenda and children in Sussex and relocating to Warwickshire with his new partner.

Brenda, now 84, took a range of menial jobs before becoming a primary schoolteacher, but Richard admitted they didn’t have ‘money, or freedom’.

However after a successful career as a best-selling author and TV presenter, Richard  has used his earnings to help his mum after she struggled throughout his childhood. 

‘I’ve made sure my mum doesn’t have to struggle, because she struggled forever. It’s freedom, money. Because I didn’t have freedom and anybody who grew up without money knows that.’ 

He told The Times: ‘I’ve got more money than when I was growing up, that’s for sure. I’ve made sure my family are safe and secure.’

Brenda lives in a retirement home in Sussex which provided the inspiration behind his hit series The Thursday Murder Club.

After his father left the family home, Richard explained that the whole side of that family cut contact with Richard’s side of the family.

‘It’s OK. The other side of my family more than made up for it. They’re a lovely bunch. We fetishise our family a bit.’

Richard previously said he had no interest in learning about his paternal family during his appearance on Who Do You Think You Are in 2022. 

Speaking to Radio Times, Richard described his father’s walking out as the worst thing to ever happen to him.

When they met 20 years later, they didn’t bond, which left the quiz show host with no desire to discover more about his forebears when the opportunity for Who Do You Think You Are arose.

‘My dad’s side of the family wasn’t something I was interested in because that’s not the family I grew up in. It would, in a funny way, be like learning about strangers,’ he told the publication.

Richard shared a close bond with his grandfather, Tom ‘Fred’ Wright: ‘So much of what I am I owe to him,’ he says on the show, adding that he would have loved to have followed in his footsteps and been a detective.

He said: ‘I’ve made sure my mum doesn’t have to struggle, because she struggled forever. It’s freedom, money. Because I didn’t have freedom and anybody who grew up without money knows that'(pictured with his older brother Mat who is the bass guitarist of Suede) 

Richard has also been open about how his father leaving the family triggered his ‘shameful and bizarre’ battle with food addiction.

The star believes his issues with food served as a coping mechanism as he struggled through childhood without an adequate father figure.

‘It’s traumatic, that’s for sure,’ the presenter explained during an episode of John Robins’ How Do You Cope? podcast in April. 

‘It’s difficult to put yourself back in your nine-year old brain. What do you know when you’re nine? Nothing, but you know family, and you know that there’s a certainty when you go home, and that’s ripped from you, so that would be a trauma for certain.

‘I would say that I didn’t deal with that trauma. This happened in the 1970s, which was a very different time, and it wasn’t the done thing to talk about it. So long as I looked OK, that was OK for everyone else.’

He added: ‘I was able to subsume it, put it to the back of my brain and not deal with it in any way; the more modern thinking is that’s not very healthy. But I’ve always had a very quick brain so I was able to find routes through this pain I was feeling and through this betrayal that I felt, and show a face to the world that was comfortable, and happy, and secure, and bits of me were, but it catches up with you.

‘I would say in my late twenties and early thirties, I’d run out of road with this new person I’d created, this person who was able to hide from pain and run from pain, and tell a different narrative.

‘That was gone, so I had to deal with it then because I didn’t deal with it when I was nine, because how could I deal with it when I was nine?’

Harry and Meghan should look for a Royal Family reset following damage done by their 2020 departure, Jennie Bond says, provided the Palace makes a similar effort

Prince Harry should issue an apology following his return to the UK with Meghan Markle, a royal expert has said, but Buckingham Palace should return the favour.

Royal commentator Jennie Bond said an apology from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “would be nice” as they prepare to set up their new lives. They returned to the country after years abroad in California, in the US, last week, where they travelled following a major schism with the rest of the Royal Family in 2020.

Jennie, while welcoming the couple and calling for Brits to “reset” their attitudes towards them, has asked the former working royals to do the same, and made a similar plea to King Charles III.

Speaking on Sky News this morning, she said it “would be nice” for Meghan and Harry to apologise to the rest of the family.

She said: An apology would be nice from Harry and Meghan because they have said and done things that have been deeply hurtful. A recognition, acknowledgement from the Palace that they could have done things better, perhaps.”

Jennie suggested the couple could keep the repairs under-wraps and pave the way for a more “civil” relationship. She added: “That all could be done privately, then surely they could all move forward, and we could move forward and be civil.”

But the royal commentator stopped short of saying the Royal Family should completely repatch their relations with Meghan and Harry.

She said: “The brothers don’t have to be that close any more, they don’t have to be best buddies. But can they not have a civil and courteous relationship?” Sources have claimed that William was left deeply hurt by Harry’s airing of family grievances in interviews and his autobiography Spare, which released in 2023.

Ms Bond previously said that Prince Harry and Meghan could prove a distraction from the royals and their work – and could annoy the King and Prince William.

She told the Mirror last week that the working royals face a “very real prospect” of having their duties overshadowed by the Sussexes after their return. She said: “One of the biggest challenges facing the working royals at the moment is the very real prospect of their work being overshadowed by anything the Sussexes do, at least whilst we all get used to them being back in the UK.

“And that’s a distraction that will annoy the King and — especially— William. I’m afraid it will all be seen as something of a competition in the next few months, particularly as Harry tries to get more publicity for his Invictus Games.

“And, until the novelty of having him and the family back in the UK wears off, it’s a competition that Harry will probably win.

“And that will mean less news coverage for the work his family are doing on behalf of the country and for the charities and campaigns they spend their lives supporting.” Harry and Meghan landed in Birmingham, with a private jet reportedly belonging to the couple having been spotted at the city’s major airport, on Wednesday.

They and the other royals have remained tight-lipped on the arrival, with no official statements yet released by either camp.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — At least 27 people have been killed following a Russian attack on the Bucha district, close to the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, officials said Saturday.

Tymur Tkachenko, head of the local regional military administration, said that at least 50 residential buildings had been damaged in the attack, which also sparked a large-scale fire that spread to homes and a restaurant.

In a statement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that a warehouse had been struck in the village of Myla “followed by a detonation.”

He did not give details on the site, but wrote in the same message that criminal proceedings had been opened on charges of official negligence.

“There are regulations in place – ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas,” Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian leader wrote that a care home for elderly people and people with disabilities and residential buildings were damaged.

“More than 370 people have already been evacuated, and the evacuation is ongoing,” he said.

Almost constant air raids in Kyiv have now reached their third day, choking the economy in the Ukrainian capital and severely disrupting civilian life more than 4½ years after Russia’s full-scale invasion of its neighbor.

A common sweetener used in jam and chewing gum has been linked to increased risks of heart attacks and stroke, a new study has shown.

The artificial sweetener xylitol is widely used in foods, drinks and toothpaste to replace sugar – often at 1,000 times the amount found in foods naturally.

In the largest study of its kind into the effects of xylitol on major cardiovascular events, such as a stroke or death, researchers from the Charité University Hospital in Berlin found higher blood levels were associated with greater risks.

Researchers looked at data from 17,710 participants over several years, comparing the 25 per cent with the highest levels of xylitol in their blood to the 25 per cent with the lowest.

Over six years, they found people with the highest levels of xylitol in their blood had a substantially greater risk – 57 per cent – of major cardiovascular events compared to those with the lowest. The difference in risk between the highest and lowest over 30 years was 18 per cent.

The findings were presented on Saturday in Munich at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) annual congress, the world’s largest heart conference.

In previous studies, we showed that xylitol can enhance the ability of platelets to form clots,” said presenter Dr Marco Witkowski from the Charité University Hospital, Berlin, Germany.

He added: “We also found that high blood levels of xylitol were linked to cardiovascular events in high-risk individuals over a 3-year period.Here we studied if xylitol increases cardiovascular events in a larger sample of the general population over much longer follow-up.”

The research also showed the increased risk linked to xylitol levels was consistent regardless of age and sex, and independent of other risk factors such as body mass index, hypertension and diabetes.

“Artificial sweeteners are consumed by people who think they are healthier than sugar and they are generally regarded as safe by regulatory agencies.”

“Our long-term findings in the general population highlight how little we know about the cardiovascular safety of xylitol and indicate that further studies are warranted, especially as the amount of xylitol in products continues to increase,” Dr Witkowski concluded.

The US has threatened to oppose Britain’s claim to the Falklands if Andy Burnham does not increase defence spending.

Officials in Washington are said to be pushing the UK towards meeting Nato‘s 5 per cent spending pledge, with one revealing ‘nothing is being ruled out’ in conversations over the matter.

The proposal will likely heap pressure on the Prime Minister, as well as his Chancellor, John Healey, who has been accused of ‘surrender’ after it emerged he had shelved his own defence spending target.

Mr Healey was branded a ‘sell out’, ‘hypocrite’ and accused of putting ‘welfare over warfare’ as it emerged he will delay setting a date for hitting 3 per cent of GDP on defence spending.

Critics have said it raised fresh questions about Labour‘s commitment to defence and security of the nation and warned it threatens to sour relations with Washington, which has been calling for greater spending among European allies for years.

They note Mr Healey resigned as Defence Secretary just two months ago under Sir Keir Starmer after the former Prime Minister’s military investment plan failed to commit to spending 3 per cent by 2030.

On Thursday it emerged the Chancellor won’t use his first Budget to officially set 2030 as the target date for reaching 3 per cent.

He will instead use next year’s spending review to set out the timetable.

But White House insiders have not reacted well to the news – and said US President Donald Trump would ‘continue efforts’ to see Britain increase her defence spending.   

One official said: ‘I would expect the UK to receive special attention because it has so much potential.

‘We will therefore continue efforts to incentivise and enable the UK to step up in a major way.’

Asked about the US ‘reviewing’ its position on Britain’s sovereignty of the Falklands, they added:  ‘I can say that they [conversations] are candid and nothing is being ruled out as far as options for encouraging the sort of burden-sharing that we seek.’

It is not the first time the US has openly spoken of ‘reviewing’ the UK’s claim to the Falklands Islands.

In April, similar sentiments were shared in a memo exploring ways for the US to punish Nato countries for failing to support the Iran war by refusing or being reluctant to grant Washington access, basing and overflight (ABO) rights for the conflict.

The email included an option to consider reassessing US diplomatic support for longstanding European ‘imperial possessions’, such as the Falkland Islands, which lie close to Argentina. 

According to the State Department’s website, the islands are administered by the United Kingdom but are still claimed by Argentina, whose Libertarian President Javier Milei is a Trump ally.

Britain and Argentina fought in 1982 over the islands after Argentina made a failed bid to take them. Some 650 Argentine soldiers and 255 British troops died before Argentina surrendered.

The wrangle over Britain’s defence budget comes as the Kremlin warned this week it could strike British military targets inside and outside Ukraine if Kyiv continues to fire long-range, UK-made cruise missiles into Russia.

The warning was the strongest direct threat yet to Britain over its military backing for Ukraine.

This week, CIA director John Ratcliffe also made a surprise trip to Moscow to warn the Kremlin against launching an attack in Nato territory amid growing fears Russia is looking to escalate its war.

And during a trip to Brussels on Thursday, the Pentagon’s policy chief Elbridge Colby said the US needed to see ‘major efforts to step up’ on defence spending among European allies, including the UK.

Mr Burnham posed for the cameras alongside Ukrainian premier Volodymyr Zelensky this week during a trip to Kyiv, pledging that Nato countries would do ‘everything we can’.

But critics tore into Mr Healey and the PM, who are scrambling for cash after Mr Burnham made a series of unfunded commitments after entering Downing Street last month.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage told the Daily Mail: ‘Britain faces the most serious security threats in a generation, yet the Chancellor cannot even stick to the defence target that only weeks ago he was saying was essential.

‘John Healey spent years styling himself as a champion of our military, yet the moment he gets his hands on the Treasury keys he betrays them.

The Tories’ shadow defence secretary, James Cartlidge, said: ‘With Russia ramping up its threats every day, the world has only got more dangerous since Mr Healey resigned two months ago.

‘It is extraordinary that he is backtracking on the very pledge which sealed the fate of the last PM and opened the door of No 10 to Andy Burnham.

‘Burnham needs to do what Starmer could not and make the difficult decisions to fund 3 per cent.

‘Russia doesn’t work to Treasury timetables, and we can’t wait for a spending review to keep Britain safe.’

Shadow Armed Forces Minister Mark Francois added: ‘When the CIA Director has just flown to Moscow, supposedly to warn them off attacking NATO, behaviour like this is strategic madness.’

Former head of the Army, General Lord Richard Dannatt, said: ‘It is outrageous. Shelving the 3 per cent target is akin to surrender.’

Labour peer Lord West, a former First Sea Lord, said: ‘I would hope that Healey, having been the Defence Secretary, is sticking by his guns.

‘It would be extraordinary and very weird if he didn’t meet the things he resigned over.

‘For him to very bravely stand and be resolute about defence and resign, only to then get the job of Chancellor and say ‘well actually it’s not that important,’ does seem a bit hypocritical.’

Former Tory Defence Secretary Sir Liam Fox said: ‘Even by the standards of this Labour government, this would be breathtaking hypocrisy.

‘And it’s clear under Labour that Britain is a country that will be more configured for welfare than warfare, even if that threatens our national security.

‘What message does it send to Putin if we’re unwilling to confront our own domestic spending problems, even if that puts our country at greater risk?’

Sir Gavin Williamson, another ex-Defence Secretary, added: ‘It’s absolutely shocking.

‘It’s all well and good for the PM to go off to Kyiv, offering additional support, but you have to back that up with the investment in terms of our defences.

‘Russia has said we’re a target and to have the naivety and the recklessness to actually then not do more to defend ourselves is a dereliction of duty.

‘It’s very disappointing if John’s going to sell out the Armed Forces as the price for him getting the job as Chancellor.’

Government insiders said Mr Healey’s first Budget would focus on filling a defence equipment funding gap of nearly £5billion left behind by Sir Keir, amounting to about £1.2billion a year.

But much bigger decisions on an uplift in defence spending will be delayed until a Treasury spending review next year, with one source claiming that was the ‘appropriate place to set that out‘.

Mr Healey resigned as Sir Keir’s Defence Secretary in June after the ex-PM’s Defence Investment Plan only projected spending to reach roughly 2.68 per cent of GDP by 2030.

The 2030 target Mr Healey has previously pushed for was part of a wider Nato commitment to hit 3.5 per cent of GDP on defence spending by 2035.

Most Nato members signed up to the target at a summit in The Hague last June under pressure from US President Donald Trump.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies think-tank has said raising spending to 3 per cent in 2030 would cost an extra £10billion a year in today’s terms.

Boosting spending further to 3.5 per cent of GDP would cost £25billion compared with existing levels.

The Daily Mail’s Don’t Leave Britain Defenceless campaign has repeatedly highlighted shortages and weaknesses in the Armed Forces and has long been calling for an immediate rise in spending, increasing to at least 3 per cent by 2030.

In an interview with Sky News yesterday, Mr Healey said fiscal discipline was the ‘first priority’ for any Chancellor.

A government spokesman added: ‘The first duty of government is to keep its citizens safe.

‘The prime minister and chancellor are committed to fully funding the Defence Investment Plan.

‘At the spending review we will set out a pathway to meet our Nato commitment of 3.5 per cent of GDP on defence by 2035 and will set a target date to hit 3 per cent on that path.’

Heartbroken Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds has paid an emotional tribute to a close friend and colleague at his creative company Maximum Effort following his death, aged 40.

The Hollywood star described Pierce Thiot as a “shining light of creativity, kindness and hard work” and said it was “impossible to imagine the world, let alone our company” without him.

Fans have taken to social media after Take That’s big tour announcement with one big question about the pre-sale for tickets

Take That have sent their fans into a frenzy after announcing their biggest European tour in years with a huge band announcement on Friday. The band’s current trio of Howard Donald, Gary Barlow and Mark Owen will be heading back out on the road across the summer of 2027.

It will be the band’s biggest European run for some time – with 31 shows in 31 cities across 16 countries now announced. The band have also teased that “more shows to be announced in the coming weeks”.

Take That have confirmed details of the “first wave of international tour dates” in 2027 in support of their new album which will be released in the next few weeks. It will be named the Dreamers Tour, after the title of their 10th studio album which is set to be released imminently.

The news comes just weeks after the band completed their triumphant reboot of The Circus Live – filling stadiums across the UK and Ireland across this summer and playing to some 730,000 fans. The tour concluded in Dublin in July, at which point Gary, Mark and Howard headed off for a well-earned break.

But their time-off won’t last too long given the huge announcement of the new tour issued on Friday. As part of the announcement, fans have been told that there will be an exclusive artist pre-sale to be in with an early chance of getting tickets before the general on-sale takes place on Friday, September 4 at 10am.

That has sparked a bit of confusion among fans, as the method described is by “pre-ordering Take That’s new album Dreamers”. This is the same album that fans were asked to pre-order to gain a pre-sale code for Take That’s Circus Live tour when this was first announced last year.

At that time, the album was given the working title of “TT 10” – a nod to it being Take That’s tenth studio album. It has now been confirmed that the album is called Dreamers, but rest assured it is the same album that fans may have already pre-ordered ahead of the Circus tour.

It has left many fans puzzling if they’re supposed to buy the album again to get a pre-sale code. However, this is not the case – as there is an option on the Take That pre-sale where NO purchase is necessary but you can still get the access code sent to your inbox.

Here’s all the details of how the pre-sale is working for the Dreamers 2027 European Tour, which currently includes two dates for the UK and Ireland – in Belfast on June 30, 2027 and Limerick on July 2, 2027.

How to get Take That pre-sale code

The Dreamers Tour announcement confirmed that fans can get access to the artist pre-sale by pre-ordering the Dreamers album here. BUT if you read the small print, you don’t have to buy the album if you’ve already got it on order.

There is an option in the small print that details “no purchase is necessary”. If you click on this area on the website, it will take you to a page to enter your email without ordering the album.

You need to enter your details on the Take That webiste before 10am (11am CEST) on Tuesday, September 1, to receive an exclusive artist pre-sale code.

The pre-sale will then start from 10am local time on Wednesday September 2.

The other ways to get a pre-sale code is via Mastercard for people who use that credit card, and also venues will also have their own pre-sales for members, so it’s worth checking with the venue you’re looking at buying from if this is applicable.

Rules on tickets

Fans are only allowed to use one pre-sale code per person, which can then be used to purchase a maximum of six tickets per person.

Fans are also urged to check age restrictions for individual tour dates.

When do pre-sale links get sent?

Once you have registered, you should receive an email straight away with instructions – check your junk if you haven’t got it. You have to press “Confirm your access” on your email at this stage to be eligible.

It then states that you will receive your pre-sale code and ticket link from Tuesday September 1 from 5pm.

The website states that if you do not receive a code by 8am BST (09am CEST) on Wednesday 2nd September 2026, you can contact Store Support support@umusicstoresupport.zendesk.com.

When does the pre-sale start?

The artist pre-sale goes live from 10am local time on Wednesday September 2. Fans should note that pre-sale access does not guarantee tickets.

When are tickets on general sale?

If you have no luck during the pre-sale, or can’t be bothered with all the email registering malarkey, you can buy your tickets when they go on general sale. This will be from 10am local time on Friday September 4.
