Cops investigating the disorder at the Rangers and Celtic clash on March 8 have made six more arrests.
Six more people including a teenager have been arrested in connection with disorder among Rangers and Celtic fans at Ibrox Stadium. Dramatic scenes broke out following the Scottish Cup quarter-final on Sunday, March 8.
Flares were seen being fired into the midst of fans while supporters, police officers, and stadium workers came under attack. A steward was seen being carried from the pitch and people required medical treatment.
Police Scotland today confirmed six men, aged 59, 45, 43, 40, 23 and 18, have been arrested and charged in connection with various offences including assault, culpable and reckless conduct and breach of the peace.
They are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date. This brings the total number of arrests to 37.
Following the match, Celtic striker Tomáš Čvančara, who scored the winning penalty for his side, was interviewed for TV wearing a blood-stained shirt. He had been photographed intervening in an incident on the field.
One of Celtic’s coaching staff was also allegedly attacked before violence broke outside the stadium after the game. Operation Moonglint was subsequently launched by Police Scotland to trace those responsible.
It comes just over a fortnight after Celtic were crowned Scottish Premiership champions after beating Hearts 3-1 in a dramatic final-day title decider.
Martin O’Neill’s side knew only a victory would do if they were to leapfrog Hearts, who had been top for 250 days, which they got thanks to two goals from Daizen Maeda and Callum Osmand to get them over the line.
Amid a season of chaos, fan protests and managerial departures, the Parkhead club beat the odds and secured their 14th top-flight crown in 15 seasons. The squad went on to defeat Dunfermline a week later to lift the Scottish Cup.
Celts have been linked with a whole load of new names including goalkeeper duo Jari De Busser and Nikolas Polster, Tottenham starlet Alfie Devine as well as Go Ahead Eagles wide man Jakob Breum, who they pursued last summer.
Elsewhere, across the city, Rangers kicked off their transfer business with the signing of Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland, with Dundee’s Luke Graham and Motherwell’s Elliot Watt also on Gers radar.
They could also revisit a move for midfielder Dan Niel while Swedish duo Oskar Fallenius and Casper Widell have been heavily linked.
Hearts have agreed a deal with Falkirk for winger Calvin Miller, with Josh McPake and MJ Kamson’Kamara already tied up on pre-contracts. French midfielder Tom Renaud is expected to join them, and they are also chasing York City’s Malachi Fagan-Walcott after Record Sport revealed their interest.
