West London shops face closure as council increases rent by over 100%

Traders say their rent review was supposed to take place between one and three years ago. Now, all shops are facing not only an exponential increase to their rent, but this rent is set to be backdated to when the rent review was supposed to be undertaken – despite, according to traders, it being the council who opted not to conduct the rent reviews when they were due.

Three train carriages that have derailed. Several emergency workers are congregating by the side of the railway.

Twenty people have been injured, two seriously, after a train derailed in East Sussex and a major incident was declared.

Network Rail said the 14:24 BST Southern service from London Victoria to Eastbourne came off the tracks close to Lewes railway station, shortly before 16:00 BST.

Photographs from the scene showed people standing on top of overturned carriages. A passenger who was in the fourth carriage said it derailed from carriage five.

British Transport Police said three carriages derailed, leaving several people trapped. All 150 on board have now been evacuated.

Several rail routes in the area were closed, as emergency teams rushed to the scene and people were advised to avoid the area.

Patients were assessed and treated at the scene, with some sent to local hospitals.

British Transport Police Chief Superintendent Dominique Ioannou said in a press briefing on Thursday night that a number of passengers were initially trapped but were all safely evacuated from the train.

She said while two people sustained serious injuries, a further 18 suffered less serious injuries.

“The train started rocking violently and then I remember clocking eyes with this guy and then there was a lot of screaming,” passenger Rachel Heath said.

“It felt like we flew in the air and the carriage landed on its side and it slid. I felt like it was going to completely flip over.

“There was a mum who was bleeding from her mouth and a dad and his son who had cuts. It was like a movie.”

Coronation Street’s Todd stages return and immediately declares his love | Soaps

Coronation Street's Todd stages return and immediately declares his love | Soaps
Todd’s back in Weatherfield, and it it’s anything but smooth sailing (Picture: ITV)

Todd Grimshaw is back in Weatherfield next week, and he’s barely had time to unpack before getting caught up in a whole load of Coronation Street drama.

The character, played by Gareth Pierce, returns from Thailand and quickly finds himself pulled into Sarah Platt’s (Tina O’Brien) increasingly difficult situation behind bars.

Sarah sends Todd a visiting order and he heads to the prison to see her. While there, he reassures her that she’s a good mate and tells her that he’ll always love her.

It’s a sweet moment between the pair, but Sarah has much bigger things on her mind.

She opens up to Todd about Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), explaining that she ended their relationship because she wanted to protect his career. Sarah knows that getting involved in her situation could put Kit in a difficult position, so she made the painful decision to walk away.

Things take a turn when Kacey (Emma Matthews) arrives in Sarah’s cell in tears.

She explains that her son has been arrested for armed robbery and begs Sarah to speak to Kit, hoping he might be able to do something to help.

Sarah tries to explain that she and Kit are no longer together and there’s nothing she can do, but Kacey isn’t willing to take no for an answer.

Sarah then calls Todd from prison and tells him what’s going on.

Back on the street, Todd approaches Kit and tells him that Sarah wants to see him. She hasn’t said exactly what she needs, but Todd makes it clear that she believes it’s important.

Kit agrees to visit Sarah, but he isn’t exactly thrilled when he hears what she wants.

Sarah explains that she needs him to help Kacey, but Kit reminds her that getting involved could cost him his job.

He also points out that Sarah was the one who ended their relationship because she didn’t want him risking his career for her.

It leaves Sarah stuck between trying to help Kacey and protecting Kit from getting dragged into the mess.

And things are only about to get worse, as Kacey’s threats eventually turn violent.

Meanwhile, Todd’s got other problems…

While Sarah deals with the fallout from behind bars, Todd has plenty of his own problems to contend with on the cobbles.

George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) and Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins) are excitedly looking forward to heading to Somerset to visit George’s cousins, but their plans soon hit a snag.

Todd lets slip that Christina has been on yet another spending spree, and George isn’t impressed.

He tells Christina that she’s no longer welcome to join him on the trip, leaving her furious.

Todd also gets caught up in the funeral arrangements for Celeste (Frances Barber), who arrives at the undertakers with her driver, Fraser.

Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) quickly takes a shine to Fraser and wastes no time inviting him for a drink.

Things seem to be going well when Fraser gives her his number and agrees to go on a date with her.

But there’s something Glenda doesn’t know.

While alone with Todd, Celeste reveals that the funeral they’re planning is actually her own. She only has six weeks to live.

The pair get to work planning her final send-off, with Celeste opting for a Dolly Parton-themed funeral before she heads off with Fraser.

Glenda is thrilled about her date, but Todd soon gets wind of something that changes everything.

Glenda, Mary and Christina have already been getting on Todd’s case about his heavy drinking since he returned from Thailand.

Glenda warns him that if he keeps treating everyone around him like dirt, he’s going to end up without any friends.

Todd clearly isn’t taking the criticism very well.

Then, when Celeste visits the undertakers again and casually reveals that Fraser is gay, Todd sees an opportunity.

Rather than letting Glenda continue thinking she has a romantic future with Fraser, Todd decides to get his own back on her.

And considering how much Glenda is looking forward to their date, it looks like Todd’s plan could leave her seriously embarrassed.

So, while Todd might have returned to Weatherfield with a promise of friendship and a few words of love for Sarah, he quickly finds himself at the centre of yet more chaos.

Meanwhile, Sarah’s situation behind bars is becoming increasingly dangerous, and with Kacey’s threats escalating, she could soon have even bigger problems to worry about.

My Name Is Earl could be revived 17 years after being axed

My Name Is Earl could be revived 17 years after being axed

My Name Is Earl, created by Greg Garcia, starred Jason Lee as unlucky criminal Earl Hickey.

It ran for four seasons from September 2005 to May 2009 before being abruptly axed.

However, now it could be revived after nearly two decades, according to reports.

My Name Is Earl could be revived 17 years after being axed

“It’s not clear if this would be a continuation of the original story or a total reboot, but essentially they will be tapping into the spirit of the show’s first outing for this comeback,” a TV insider told The Sun.

Earl was a petty thief who, after winning a $100,000 lottery ticket and immediately losing it, decides to turn his life around by making amends for his past misdeeds.

The show followed his comedic attempts to right his wrongs after being hit by a car.

My Name Is Earl became an instant hit when it debuted and premiered in the UK on Channel 4 in January 2006.

The insider hinted that the revival could be inspired by the recent comeback of another early 2000s sitcom.

They said: “The move comes after the revival of Malcolm In The Middle, another classic from the Noughties, which returned earlier this year on Disney with the spin-off Life’s Still Unfair.

“That saw the show’s leading man, Frankie Munz, reprise his central role, much to the delight of fans.

“Now execs are assessing just how successful that show has been before going ahead with any similar projects.”

During its original run, My Name Is Earl was praised for its humour and heart, earning five Primetime Emmy Awards and nominations for Golden Globes and BAFTAs.

The main cast also included Ethan Suplee, Jaime Pressly, Nadine Velazquez, and Eddie Steeples.

Since its cancellation, the show has remained popular on streaming platforms, including Disney+ and ITVX.

Other classic TV shows revived for new series

The potential return of My Name is Earl is one of many TV shows that have been revived for new series in recent months and years.

British crime drama television series Bergerac originally aired on BBC One from 1981 until 1991.

However, it was rebooted last year, with a second series commissioned in April 2025 and a third series officially announced in recent weeks.

Children’s classic Balamory was also brought back this year after more than two decades.

Originally airing over four series from 2002 to 2005, it centres on a fictional small island community off the west coast of Scotland and deals with its residents and their issues.

In September 2024, the BBC announced that the show would be revived for a two-series run of twenty episodes, which premiered on CBeebies earlier this year.

In May 2026, the BBC announced that Balamory had been commissioned for two more series, which would take it up to eight in total.

In other reboot news, Channel 5 has confirmed the cast of its reboot of the classic series Monarch of the Glen.

The show originally aired from 2000 to 2005 and followed the comedic and dramatic happenings of a Highland estate in Scotland.

Production company Ecosse Films is behind the revived version, which will see Julia Brown, known for her role in Karen Pirie, take the lead as Isla Campbell.

Isla is a London lawyer who returns to the Highlands for her estranged father’s funeral and discovers she has inherited a million-pound debt.

Ms Brown said: “I’m so excited to be stepping into the world of Monarch of the Glen and bringing Isla Campbell to life.

“Isla is ambitious, sharp and fiercely independent, but returning home to Scotland forces her to confront her past, her family and a future she never expected.”

Alongside Ms Brown, Chris Fulton (Bridgerton) will play her brother Alasdair, and Ewan Miller (High Value Target) will appear as Ewan, the estate’s gamekeeper and a close family friend.

Other notable cast members include Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey) as Morag, Rishi Nair (The Marlow Murder Club) as businessman Daniel, John Gordon Sinclair (Gregory’s Girl) as family lawyer Fergus, and Gordon Kennedy (The Diplomat) as Angus, the stockman.

The original series, also produced by Ecosse Films, was based loosely on the Highland Novels by Sir Compton Mackenzie and aired on BBC One for seven series, spanning 64 episodes.

The first five series focused on Archie MacDonald, a young restaurateur trying to revive his family’s Highland estate.

In the later series, the plot shifted to Paul Bowman, the new laird, and his attempts to modernise the estate.

The reboot will offer a fresh, female-led perspective on the beloved story, with production currently taking place in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

It will be broadcast on 5 and Masterpiece PBS and is expected to air in 2027.

Perez Hilton’s sister gives horrifying eyewitness account of his self-harm livestream and reveals desperate attempt to prevent his children from seeing

Perez Hilton's sister Barbara Lavandeira has offered a chilling eyewitness account of his shocking self-harm livestream last week; pictured in hospital earlier this year

Perez Hilton‘s sister Barbara Lavandeira has offered a chilling eyewitness account of his shocking self-harm livestream last week.

Hilton, 48, was taken to the hospital in Miami last Tuesday after the police received emergency calls alerting them to a potential suicide attempt.

Footage from the stream, which The Daily Mail has chosen not to republish, appears to show him smeared with blood after seemingly having taken a knife to himself.

It emerged that his three children Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, eight, as well as his niece and Barbara, had been at the house in the lead-up to the incident.

Now Barbara, 42, has recalled becoming frightened for Hilton’s well-being, bursting into his bathroom and being confronted with the sight of him ‘standing in front of the shower, naked, cut up, covered in blood, with a box cutter in his hand,’ via Page Six.

Barbara hauntingly shared that she ‘didn’t recognize my brother,’ that his eyes ‘didn’t look the same’ and that his smile made her feel she ‘was staring at someone else.’

She immediately whisked the children out to the car in a frantic bid to shield them from the ‘nightmare’ unfolding inside the house.

Barbara appears to have come upon her brother, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, after he had already left the TikTok livestream.

‘That afternoon, Mario was in his bedroom with the door closed and locked, which wasn’t like him. His door was almost always open,’ she recalled.

‘When I knocked, he said he was fine, but I could barely hear him. After I knocked a few more times and asked him to open the door, he stopped responding.’

Barbara then ‘tried calling his cellphone in case he couldn’t hear me, but he wouldn’t answer. Something just felt wrong,’ she said.

‘I unlocked his bedroom door and realized he was inside the bathroom. I knocked several more times and told him I was going to come in if he didn’t open the door. He still didn’t answer, so I unlocked it.’

Upon entering the room, her ‘nightmare became a reality’ as she found herself facing her bloodied brother grasping a box cutter by the shower.

‘What I can say with certainty is that I didn’t recognize my brother when I looked at him,’ said Barbara. ‘I saw it in his eyes. They didn’t look the same. Then, a split second later, he smiled at me. It felt like I was staring at someone else.’

Determined to keep the children away from the crisis, she ‘left the room, grabbed the car keys and yelled for the kids to run to the car. Thankfully, our mom wasn’t home at the time, and I was able to get everyone out quickly.’

After dialing 911 in order to call the police to her brother’s house, Barbara ‘messaged my best friend, who lives nearby, while I was on with dispatch, and asked her to please come get the kids and take them away from the scene.’

Hilton’s sister, who was visiting him from California, made her way back inside and attempted to staunch his bleeding with towels while awaiting the ambulance.

‘He had already lost a significant amount of blood, yet he was somehow still able to speak, although his voice was very faint,’ she said. ‘The ambulance took him to the hospital, and I stayed behind to speak with the crisis team that arrived.’

That date, August 4, ‘will forever be one of the darkest days my family and I have ever experienced,’ Barbara said.

On August 7, three days after he was hospitalized, Hilton’s mother, Teresita Lavandeira submitted a petition in a Miami family court to temporarily assume custody of his children, according to public records viewed by The Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, Barbara grappled with ‘whether I should say anything personally,’ noting that her brother ‘has always been an open book,’ while she was ‘the opposite.’

She described herself as ‘a very private person,’ pointing out that ‘although I’ve worked with him for many years, I’ve always stayed behind the scenes.’

Ultimately, she came to the conclusion that as the ‘only person who witnessed what happened from the beginning to the end,’ she wanted to break her silence, not only for the benefit of ‘everyone who cares about him and has been sending their best wishes’ but also in order to dispel the ‘rumors’ circulating about that night.

Barbara was particularly wounded by those who regarded Hilton’s downward spiral as a form of cosmic retribution for the viciousness of his early gossip blog.

‘The comments calling this “karma” have been especially painful. I wouldn’t wish what my mother, Mario’s children, or our entire family is experiencing on anyone,’ said Barbara, adding that her brother had expressed remorse for his earlier behavior.

‘Mario has publicly acknowledged the harm he caused earlier in his career. In 2010, he went on network television and admitted that the outings, doodles, and other things he did were wrong, and he has apologized repeatedly,’ she said.

Without ‘asking anyone to forget or excuse any of that,’ she pleaded with the public to ‘recognize that he has changed tremendously’ in the intervening years.

‘I don’t believe someone should be reduced forever to the worst things they did in their past, especially when they’ve admitted the harm and genuinely tried to grow,’ said Barbara, while noting that his ‘children and our mother are innocent. They shouldn’t be punished or tormented because of how people feel about him.’

Hilton’s team revealed over the weekend that he had sustained ‘significant blood loss’ as well as unspecified ‘additional injuries.’

According to the update, the one-time celebrity gossip blogger would ‘require surgery in the coming days’ to treat his injuries.

The statement also confirmed that Hilton ‘remains hospitalized under Florida‘s Baker Act,’ a law that allows for involuntary hospitalizations.

Due to the conditions of his facility and the Baker Act, they emphasized that the blogger’s ‘communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care.’

The Baker Act – officially the Florida Mental Health Act – allows medical and mental health professionals, as well as judges and law enforcement officers, to involuntarily commit individuals for up to 72 hours if they are believed to be at risk of harming themselves or others.

Hilton’s team emphasized that his ‘condition remains serious but stable,’ explaining that his ‘treatment and recovery’ would be a ‘long process.’

Hilton’s team confirmed that his ‘children remain safe and are being cared for by immediate family.’

Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s house captured the moment when law enforcement arrived at Hilton’s residence in Miami last Tuesday after fans reached out to 911 over concerns for his welfare.

Police cars could be seen pulling up to the home not long after 7pm on Tuesday evening.

Law enforcement was seen trying to coax Hilton out of his home in the video.

A deputy was heard calling out: ‘Mario, it’s the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, please step out of the house.’

Clips taken from the footage appeared to show the media personality covered in blood while brandishing a knife.

The statement from Perez’s family continued: ‘Our family cannot express enough our continued gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received during this incredibly difficult time.

‘The events of the past several days have been nearly unbearable for our family.’

‘Our highest priority right now is helping the children begin to heal from what they experienced. An important part of that process is allowing them to safely return home and begin rebuilding a sense of security and normalcy.’

Hilton’s family also requested ‘privacy and space they need during this unimaginably difficult time’.

They added: ‘We will continue to provide updates on Perez’s condition through PerezHilton.com when we have additional information we are able to share. Again, thank you for your compassion, understanding, and continued prayers.’

And just weeks later, the blogger faced another health crisis after experiencing ‘soreness and pain in one of my legs.’

Following an ultrasound, it was revealed that Hilton had a deep vein thrombosis.

‘I am so thankful to God that we caught this early because if that blood clot had gone to my lungs or my heart, it could have been real bad,’ he said on Instagram at the time.

He soon gave another update on social media to share that he was able to ‘finally walk again’ as he used the help of a walker.

Months before the distressing TikTok livestream, Hilton reflected on his health scares.

During an appearance on Fox News Media’s Hang Out with Sean Hannity podcast, which had been recorded on July 14, he said: ‘I was in the hospital for 21 days, so I thought I was gonna die.

‘Especially because the first few days they couldn’t find where the perforation was and then I had all of these other issues. My body just started breaking down.’

He further explained: ‘I had fluid in my lungs. I went AFib. My heart issues. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong.

‘I’m 48 and I’ve never taken any kind of flu medication with food. And some medication, you don’t need to take with food. The flu medication you’re supposed to take with food.’

Hilton stated that he took both ‘Aleve and Tylenol’ on an empty stomach.

‘I know, I did that for a week, and I developed an ulcer and a perforation and here we are.’

He has also befriended a number of Hollywood celebrities.

Back in 2021, Hilton admitted that he ‘regrets’ the way he covered Britney Spears’s breakdown in 2007.

He had garnered criticism for ‘bullying’ the Baby One More Time hitmaker after he previously called her an ‘unfit mother.’

He also released a shirt design on his website in 2008, which questioned why the pop star didn’t die instead of Heath Ledger.

The shirt had an image of the actor from his role in Brokeback Mountain as well as the words: ‘Why couldn’t it be Britney?’

‘I regret a lot or most of what I said about Britney as I’m sure Piers [Morgan] would if he were here about things he’s said in the past,’ Hilton said during an interview on the TV show Good Morning Britain.

The media personality added that he has grown over the years and expressed: ‘Thankfully, hopefully, many of us get older and wiser.’

Overwhelmed Tim faces murderer Richie's daughter in Coronation Street | Soaps
Things are getting even more complicated (Picture: ITV)

Tim Metcalfe’s (Joe Duttine) whole entire world changed when he knocked on the door of his cousin Richie’s (Nathan Sussex) house in Coronation Street.

The duo reconnected a couple of days ago, after Tim picked Richie up in his taxi. He then invited his cousin back to his house for some drinks.

Afterwards, it became apparent that Richie’s partner Rachel wasn’t happy about him staying out all night.

Richie had been thrown out of the family home, and later told Tim about his plans to stay with a friend in Liverpool. As Richie left, Tim urged him to go back home and speak to Rachel.

Tim then found Richie’s wallet and headed to his house, hoping that he was there trying to clear things up with his wife.

As today’s episode opened, Sally (Sally Dynevor) found Tim downstairs. It was the middle of the night, and it was clear that Tim had been awake for most of it.

He kept replaying the moment where he knocked on Richie’s door, and how he pushed his cousin to speak to Rachel. Tim had no idea that his cousin was capable of such horror, but that also didn’t stop him feeling as though things would’ve played out differently if didn’t encourage Richie to go back home.

Rachel and Richie’s daughter Lucy has been put into foster care, but Sally learnt in the morning that the placement had fallen through.

Tim wanted Lucy to move in with him, Sal and the Michaelis siblings. Sally was a bit overwhelmed at the thought of another vulnerable child arriving, but she recognised that Tim was desperate to help.

Lucy arrived, and things got chaotic very quickly. She disappeared from the house at one point, but was later found at the bus stop by Tim, Sal and Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger).

Over dinner, Sally and Tim attempted to be gentle with Lucy as they spoke about what might happen to her dad, but they then received quite a shock.

Lucy screamed in Tim’s face and stated that she knows he doesn’t really care about her. The youngster had gone from being incredibly quiet to shouting very loudly, and the situation left Tim and Sally pretty horrified.

Everything has changed and now, they’ve welcomed the daughter of a murderer into their home.
