Libra is all about give and take in harmony (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Libra season lands September 23 and has us all reviewing our closest, inner circle and romantic or family ties.
Who is really on our side? Are we on theirs? Who shows up and who ducks out when we need them? Are we the best parent/friend/partner/colleague we could be? Do we feel balanced in our relationships or like we always fall into unhealthy dynamics or attractions?
Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, money, pleasure and indulgence. These themes play out and distort many relationship chemistries, and the underlying issues you may be impacted by could be a ‘Venus thing’.
Libra is a skilled diplomat, a negotiator, a charming flirt, and a great analyst. Libran relationships often look effortless and positive, but you don’t see all the adjustments and work the Libra folk are doing behind the scenes and under the surface.

Aries
March 21 to April 20
The relationship you need to focus on is shown by The Hierophant, and the work you need to do by The Moon (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Aries for Libra season: The Hierophant, The Moon
Meaning: This has strong parent/child dynamics (or boss/employee, leader/novice, guru/follower). And the theme is rebellion. But you don’t want to be a rebel without a cause. You need to prepare for this flipping of the tables or you’ll end up right back where you are now, and probably even more frustrated.
Do your homework, understand why you’re pushing back, line up rational arguments and appreciate the emotional drivers in play too. Think about their perspective and position. Consider the ideal outcome. Jump in and shift this balance. It’s time, you’ve outgrown it.

The relationship you need to focus on is shown by the Three of Coins, and the work you need to do by Temperance (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Taurus for Libra season: Three of Coins, Temperance
Meaning: Three of Coins always signals admirers (often secret ones) to my mind. Folk that really respect and like you, watch shyly and want to get to know you. For some reason, you have overlooked or ignored this chemistry. Why? It could be very positive.
Temperance asks you to be present, visible, consistent, and let this person feel confident enough around you to make their proposal, pitch, offer, introduction etc. It might not even be romantic or friendship at all, it might be a work or collaboration invite. Whatever it is, it could be good news. So notice the ‘quiet ones’ and give them your time.
The relationship you need to focus on is shown by the Queen of Cups, and the work you need to do by the Knight of Coins (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Gemini for Libra season: Queen of Cups, Knight of Coins
Meaning: Put some time, energy, effort and even hard work into the closest female relationship you treasure and wish to protect and nurture. Be vulnerable, honest, kind, and creative. Delight them and reassure them. Tell them what’s really going on with you (that’s all they really want to hear, they don’t have an ‘agenda’).
When you’re fully you and fully present, you’re most folks’ favourite company. It’s when you switch off, half-a** it, cancel last minute, or rush through to get to the next thing on your list, that you start to lose folk. It’s not what you do, but what you omit. So put the effort in to be fully you and fully present — and you will restore whatever was fading.
The relationship you need to focus on is shown by the Queen of Wands, and the work you need to do by The Star (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Cancer for Libra season: Queen of Wands, The Star
Meaning: Use the friend, lover, or acquaintance in your life that is the most adventurous, fun, and likely to want to go on an amazing escapade or journey of discovery with you! It’s time to get out, be brave, and zoom to another level in this alliance. You have the great idea, they have the connections or know-how to make it a reality.
The Star blesses this alliance with joy, success, and excitement. You can, when you join forces, go further faster than you think is possible. You complement each other and create magic together that wouldn’t be possible alone. Join up. Head out. Have fun.
The relationship you need to focus on is shown by the Two of Wands, and the work you need to do by the Five of Coins (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Leo for Libra season: Two of Wands, Five of Coins
Meaning: You’re always in demand and you can get yourself overbooked and overcommitted faster than most folk. It’s happening again. The Two of Wands shows something like a love triangle, or three’s a crowd, or a conflict of interests where you’re trying to hedge your bets and keep it friendly with everyone.
Can’t be done. Folk need to feel and see you’re either on their side… or not. The Five of Coins asks what you most value, what you couldn’t bear to lose, and what matters to you deeply and for the long run. Focus on that. Choose it. Show your commitment.
The relationship you need to focus on is shown by the King of Coins, and the work you need to do by the Six of Wands (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Virgo for Libra season: King of Coins, Six of Wands
Meaning: The King of Coins relates to a masculine, older, senior, possibly paternal or boss-like figure in your realm, potentially someone you work for/with or take instruction from. I feel they have been a good influence, taught you a lot, and the relationship has warmed and blossomed over time. There’s a lot of trust.
The Six of Wands asks you to relax a little with them, take down the barriers of formality or politeness and be yourself. You have built enough rapport for this bond to move to a more social, friendly, authentic chemistry and I think you will both get a great deal from it.
The relationship you need to focus on is shown by the Ace of Cups, and the work you need to do by the Two of Coins (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Libra for Libra season: Ace of Cups, Two of Coins
Meaning: Love is blossoming, unfurling and igniting in your realm. The Ace of Cups reveals a new relationship or potential pregnancy, even a new pet. There is a great deal of affection and trust and hope bound up in this bond, and you are breathing life into it and feeling fantastic to have it finally come into your world. And so you should. This is real.
The Two of Coins reminds you not to put all your eggs in one basket, though. No one single person can fulfil every need you have, and you must keep up your other relationships at this time, despite the urge to just deep dive with your new love. That won’t be sustainable, and could set a precedent it’s hard to backtrack from or put pressure on things too early. Enjoy your new love… but make sure you focus on other important bonds too. You have many folk who love, appreciate, and need your presence, don’t forget that.
The relationship you need to focus on is shown by the Page of Coins, and the work you need to do by Death (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Scorpio for Libra season: Page of Coins, Death
Meaning: Pages can point to children, younger friends or family, or even students or apprentices (maybe someone who works for you) in your realm. This person is earnest, hardworking, and ambitious. Perhaps they have been an apprentice to your master role? That can be a tricky dynamic to manage long-term because the apprentice always overtakes the master in the end… are you ready for that?
Death shows, whatever the nature of this, that it’s changing. Dramatically. Between now and November, the tables will turn, the bond will break and reform in a new shape and guise. So be ready. Don’t hold on to what was… look ahead to what could be.
The relationship you need to focus on is shown by the Nine of Cups, and the work you need to do by the Eight of Wands (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Sagittarius for Libra season: Nine of Cups, Eight of Wands
Meaning: The Nine of Cups represents your favourite person, the person you’re hanging the most hopes on, the person who perhaps is making a life dream of yours come true with you (a partner, housemate, ally, colleague, co-founder, best friend). They matter, and you need to communicate and open up the floor to other opinions, ideas and inputs too.
Things have been intense… but also strangely quiet. A lot of tension and not a lot of communication or progress on the key issues you can feel simmering. Get things back on track by researching your options, finding out new ideas, discussing them fully and openly, and falling back in love with what you’re both doing.
The relationship you need to focus on is shown by The Hermit, and the work you need to do by The Hanged Man (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Capricorn for Libra season: The Hermit, The Hanged Man
Meaning: You have got very stuck and frustrated with a key relationship that you need progress, movement and traction on. Things have stalled. Maybe you’re being ignored? Maybe you’re both not saying what has to be aired? Maybe you feel them pulling away even though they still show up? The Hermit points to a quiet, conscientious, wise person — maybe a Virgo.
The Hanged Man asks you to put yourself in their shoes. Really, truly flip your perspective and angle, and see things from their position. It will unlock a major secret or suppressed insight into the source of the problem. And, once seen, you can discuss. And, once discussed, you can come to a resolution and move forwards again.
The relationship you need to focus on is shown by the Seven of Wands, and the work you need to do by the Seven of Coins (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Aquarius for Libra season: Seven of Wands, Seven of Coins
Meaning: This card combination makes me think of a rival turning into an ally. Maybe the enemy of your enemy becoming your friend, at long last. An unholy alliance born of competition but sealed by long-term shared experience and now understanding.
Sometimes these are the best relationships because they happen against the odds, so the chemistry and spark has to be strong. And you already have a wealth of shared history, albeit on opposite sides of the fence.
Let things evolve. Don’t try and push this back into what it was. Things have changed, you’ve both changed, and now the way you interact with and deal with each other has changed too.
The relationship you need to focus on is shown by the Page of Swords, and the work you need to do by the Eight of Coins (Picture: Getty/Metro)
Tarot cards for Pisces for Libra season: Page of Swords, Eight of Coins
Meaning: Trust has to be earned, it is rarely an automatic gift in a relationship, although you usually start fairly neutrally and build from there. The Page of Swords brings the theme of trust into a relationship that you feel has blown hot vs cold, on vs off. So it’s hard to really invest in it, even when the going is good, as things always shift.
The Eight of Coins asks you to give this one last push, a breakthrough is on the cards. Something will click in place, unfold, reveal itself, and whatever used to drive a wedge between you will not be present anymore. This can now become what you always hoped it would be.

DVLA update on ‘invisible’ number plates evading speed cameras – key details | Wales Online
Need to know
The Department for Transport has issued a new update on the plates
(Image: stocknshares via Getty Images)
What you need to know as DVLA struggles to tackle number plates crisis
The Department for Transport has revealed that just 13 DVLA staff are tasked with monitoring nearly 35,000 number plate suppliers amid a growing crisis with ‘ghost plates’ that help criminals evade detection.
A parliamentary report found that as many as one in 15 vehicles on British roads have altered, non-compliant plates that are invisible to police Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems.
The All Party Parliamentary Group for Transport warned that “the UK’s outdated and poorly regulated number plate system has created a vast and rapidly growing crisis that enables criminals and organised crime groups to operate undetected on our road network.”
A former police officer told the BBC that ghost plates have been used by people linked to “violence against young women and girls, people smuggling, drug smuggling and other forms of organised criminality.”
The Royal College of Policing noted that vehicles with ghost plates “were found to be involved in armed robberies and burglaries, used by sex offenders or involved in road traffic collisions.”
Councils are now introducing new technology to combat the problem, with enforcement officers being provided with specially developed cameras designed to detect the elusive plates.
Drivers caught using these illegal plates could face a £100 fine as authorities crack down on what experts describe as a ‘staggeringly simple’ system to fool.
GBBO presenter Alison Hammond reportedly lost 11 stone over five years. She has described how a pre-diabetes diagnosis and advice from her late mother motivated changes to her diet and exercise routine
The Great British Bake Off fans are excited that the Channel 4 show is back tonight (September 22) for series 17. Nigella Lawson is joining the tent as a permanent judge, with a fresh group of amateur bakers preparing to put their skills to the test.
The chef and food writer succeeds Dame Prue Leith, whose nine-series stint ended when she stepped down earlier this year. Fans also have a brand-new spin-off show to look forward to alongside the main competition.
However, a familiar face that is returning is presenter Alison Hammond, who has co-hosted alongside Noel Fielding on GBBO for three years. Observant viewers may have noticed that the 51 year old This Morning star appears considerably slimmer these days, having dropped an impressive 11 stone over the past five years.
Alison has shed between 11 and 13.5 stone over a five-year period, reducing her weight from 28 stone at her peak to approximately 15–17 stone.
She accomplished this impressive transformation through sustainable lifestyle modifications, including dietary changes and regular personal training sessions, rather than turning to drastic measures or weight-loss medication.
Heartbreaking reason she lost weight
The popular TV presenter was motivated to begin her health transformation after receiving a concerning pre-diabetes diagnosis. Her late mother, Maria, who lived with type 2 diabetes, also urged Alison to address her weight shortly before she died in 2020.
“I’ll never forget when my mum was really ill in hospital,” Alison shared during a segment on This Morning. “She looked at me – she’s never commented on my weight my whole life-and she said, ‘Alison, don’t end up like me; try and sort out your weight.’”.
Methods she used to shed the pounds
Alison has been vocal about avoiding weight loss injections such as Ozempic or Wegovy, stating she preferred a more traditional approach.
The presenter focused on sensible eating habits. Rather than cutting out whole food groups, she embraced a “cutting back, not cutting out” approach.
She dramatically reduced her sugar intake and made portion control a priority.
She also kept up regular strength and personal training sessions. The broadcaster began working out up to four times each week with a personal trainer.
Rather than forcing herself through gruelling cardio sessions she loathed, she focused on achievable, short strength-training workouts and Reformer Pilates.
Alison also stressed lifestyle modifications over the bathroom scales. She emphasised that her biggest success was bringing her blood sugar back to normal levels and reversing her pre-diabetes, rather than hitting a specific number on the scales.
Boost to her online confidence
Content cannot be displayed without consent
Followers have noticed that Alison now posts content with a renewed sense of self-assurance on Instagram. While she has always been cherished for her bubbly and captivating personality, her recent social media presence demonstrates a notable shift towards celebrating her strength, wellness accomplishments, and fashion sense.
The presenter’s posts have garnered tremendous praise from fans and celebrity friends alike, who say her refreshed look is “oozing confidence.”
Rather than hiding her health and fitness journey, Alison regularly posts videos of herself working up a sweat, lifting heavy weights, boxing, and taking part in Reformer Pilates sessions. She uses her platform to openly credit her personal trainers and wellness coaches for the profound impact they have had on her life.
Her social media feeds are equally packed with striking “glow-up” photographs. Her styling team consistently shares collections of images capturing her looking utterly radiant at red carpet events, dressed in towering heels and sophisticated gowns or sleek black mini-dresses that beautifully highlight her 11-to-13-stone transformation.
Mirror Political Editor Lizzy Buchan writes in from New York…
Andy Burnham is gearing up for his biggest test yet on the world stage – a prime time sit down with Donald Trump.
But the Prime Minister seemed relaxed and ready last night for his foray into the lions den with the US President.
On the plane from London last night, he endured a 40-minute grilling from journalists on everything from the US relationship to the Budget but still joked that he was disappointed no one had asked him about TV star’s Danny Dyer’s rant about him.
This trip is a marked contrast from the last time I watched a PM meet the mercurial US President.
Tensions were sky high when Keir Starmer travelled to meet Trump in the Oval Office last year.
The PM and his team were calm but steely, using all their time to prepare for every possible grenade the US President could lob their way. In the end, Starmer pulled off his charm offensive but the whole trip felt extremely high stakes.
Burnham is a different kind of politician. He seems to enjoy the job of PM in a way that Starmer never did, taking this sort of test in his stride.
He will be well prepared for whatever Trump throws at him – but his team seem quietly confident that he can charm Trump enough to get through it unscathed.
We’ll know soon enough if his strategy works.

One objection said transport links into the city are “insufficient”
A further 180 homes could be built in a Peterborough suburb but locals want the land to be used for a new railway station instead. Work is ongoing to build new homes in Hampton Woods, Peterborough.
O&H Properties Ltd has proposed to build the new homes on land south east of 2A Broadway in Yaxley, south of Peterborough and east of Hampton. It sits within the Hampton Woods village of the wider Hampton East Urban Extension, a large settlement providing thousands of new homes.
The wider Hampton community includes Hampton Hargate, Hampton Vale, Hampton Green, Hampton Beach, Hampton Water and more. Hampton Woods is the latest development area of the Peterborough suburb. An application for up to 180 homes is the latest proposal.
The new homes are proposed to be built across a 6.79 hectare site, with a village green including a play area, included in the plans. The applicants say it will act as a “central open space and destination within the development, helping to establish a strong sense of place”.
The applicant said: “Hampton Woods is envisioned as a distinctive and accessible continuation of the wider Hampton community, shaped by its strong relationship with the surrounding landscape and natural features; framed by woodland, Beeby’s East Lake and green spaces.
“A landscape-led approach underpins the vision, with linear green and blue corridors, structural tree planting and active travel routes connecting homes, streets and public spaces. The village green forms the heart of the community, anchoring the neighbourhood and the intersecting green spaces.
“Together, contemporary buildings, streets, landscape, and infrastructure will create a sustainable, attractive, and well-connected village that fosters a strong sense of place, community pride and long-term resilience.”
Reacting to the plans, which were lodged in September, one local wrote: “A vast number of new homes are being built across the area, yet the transport links into the city remain insufficient, to say the least. The existing roads are often too narrow, heavily congested, and subject to frequent repairs, creating significant delays for residents.
“The available land should be considered for the development of a small local railway station, providing residents with a faster, more direct and reliable connection into the city centre. On particularly busy days, a journey by car can take around 30 minutes, contributing to increased traffic, pollution and stress for those travelling into the city.
“A local rail connection would not only reduce pressure on the roads but could also provide much better access for evening and weekend commuters. This would make it easier for people to visit and spend time in the city outside traditional working hours, potentially supporting local businesses and increasing revenue within the city centre.”
Another person said the proposal “erodes the essential physical separation and green buffer between Yaxley village and the expanding Peterborough/Hampton urban area”. They said that developing this site “reduces the open gap separating Yaxley from the council boundary, undermining local spatial strategy”.
Additionally, the formal objection said: “The proposed development permanently eliminates the opportunity for crucial rail infrastructure. Given the lack of local employment opportunities within Peterborough, residents must commute outside the city for work.
“Allocating this specific land for housing rather than a train station deprives the area of essential regional rail connectivity and forces hundreds of new residents into total car dependency, worsening congestion on Broadway and surrounding local routes.”
At the time of the fire neighbours reported hearing ‘loud bangs’ before emergency services found a body inside the campervan
A retired engineer died in a fire which sparked a police investigation, an inquest has found. Darren John Edwards, 60, was identified as the man whose body was found in a burnt out campervan following a serious fire near Porthcawl seafront last year.
Residents reported hearing “loud bangs” before emergency services found a body inside a campervan on Mackworth Road after the alarm was raised in the early hours of August 28, 2025. Forensic investigations were carried out at the scene, with South Wales Police initially treating the death as “unexplained”. Officers were unable to identify the body for some time.
An inquest has now concluded the death was an accident which is believed to have started with a gas camping stove. Mr Edwards had also consumed high levels of alcohol which likely impacted upon his alertness to the fire, an investigation found.
Pontypridd Coroner’s Court heard that Mr Edwards, a retired engineer from Newport, was living in the campervan at the the time of his death and spent much of his time visiting different locations in Wales.
In late August he had spent a number of nights sleeping in the vehicle in the Porthcawl area, the inquest heard.
Emergency services were called to what was described as a “fire incident” involving multiple vehicles in Mackworth Road. Once the fire was extinguished, emergency personnel found a deceased person inside one of the vehicles.
The road was cordoned off while investigations were carried out to determine the circumstances surrounding the fire.
The inquest was told the campervan was later identified as belonging to Mr Edwards and it was his body which was recovered from the campervan.
The origin of the fire was likely a gas camping stove, the inquest heard.
A post mortem examination identified that Mr Edwards died as a result of smoke inhalation. He had also consumed high levels of alcohol which the inquest heard likely impacted upon his alertness and response to the fire.
The medical cause of death was given as 1a, smoke inhalation, and 2, alcohol toxicity.
Area Coroner Patricia Morgan concluded that the death was an accident.

Nigel Davies insists the Scarlets will fight for their future
Scarlets director of rugby Nigel Davies insists the uncertainty clouding the club’s future has galvanised his players but admits it has also placed greater responsibility on the club to achieve better results on the field this season.
There remains a cloud hanging over both the Scarlets and Ospreys this term, with the WRU having pitted both clubs against each other for the west licence as it looks to cut down to three professional clubs.
But Davies is adamant the Scarlets are in a strong position heading into the new campaign.
“It’s typical Welsh, isn’t it? You put us in the corner and we come out fighting,” he said.
“If I look at this with my business head and look at where the risks are, where the opportunities are, where the strengths and weaknesses are, I just look at the Scarlets and we have a completely unique facility.
“We’ve also got one of the strongest boards who are Scarlets to the core, rugby people, bright people who run their own businesses, who know what it takes, and they are 100% supportive of the Scarlets.
“I think the Scarlets are in a really strong position.”
While Davies admits on-field results are more important than ever this season he has urged people to look beyond the here and now.
“You just can’t look at a moment in time in Welsh rugby,” Davies added.
“You’ve got to look historically at the number of players that we’ve produced and the success that we’ve had.
“There’s a history and a legacy from this place.
“Having said all that people will judge the moment because of the situation.
“So we realise there’s a role and responsibility there as well but let’s not forget, this is more than just a moment in time.”
The former Wales coach has also identified the Scarlets’ academy and Llandovery College as two important factors in the Scarlets’ favour.
“You’ve got to look at where the players historically come from,” he said.
“Ourselves and the Ospreys have probably been the two most successful in developing rugby players into becoming Welsh internationals. You can’t ignore that.
“There’s a reason for that. These are strong communities with strong rugby heritage, strong colleges and strong schools that play rugby and develop those players.
“There are hotbeds within Welsh rugby.
“As the game is shrinking all the time those hotbeds are key and vital.
“One of the ones that we’re trying to support and work hard with is Llandovery College, for instance.
“We’ve got eight players in our squad at the moment who have gone through that system.
“We’ve been able to make sure that they progress and they eventually become not just Scarlets they play for the Ospreys and Cardiff as well.
“Over the decades, we’ve eroded a lot of what was really good about our game. I’m struggling to see what’s left.
“Our pathway doesn’t identify talent now until 16, and it’s difficult, I think, for a young rugby player or the parents of a young rugby player to see a pathway for a player right now.”
Despite the uncertainty over the club’s future Davies insists it will not affect his players as the Scarlets look to improve on last season’s 14th-placed finish in the United Rugby Championship.
“No, not at all. I think in rugby there are small windows anyway, for all players and coaches,” said Davies when asked if the uncertainty will affect his players.
“We know for the next two years what it looks like, and it’s completely out of our control.
“One of the things that is in our control is performance and results, and that’s what we’ve been absolutely focused on.
“Honestly, for professional rugby players, a two-year window is as long as they can ever look at.”
They are the generation that grew up with online dating apps such as Tinder, Bumble and social media at their fingertips.
But despite all that, a study has revealed Gen Z is in a sex recession.
To understand how young adults are navigating sex, dating and relationships today, researchers surveyed 2,373 adults aged 18 to 29.
They found that this age group, which includes Gen Z, reported low levels of sexual activity – despite a moderate to high sex drive.
The survey said 29 per cent had zero partners in the last three months and 19 per cent had never had a partner at all.
One 25-year-old man told the researchers, who worked in collaboration with Playboy: ‘People my age are having less sex because they are meeting less people in person.’
Another added: ‘It’s hard to hook up with someone if you’re too scared to even talk to anyone.’
Instead, many said their intimacy needs are already being met – through social media and artificial intelligence (AI) companions.

TikTokers bts.mulli and karniel.g urge their fans not to lose their virginity
Lots of Gen Z said their intimacy needs are already being met, through social media and AI companions
The study, carried out by the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, revealed that many did not seem particularly distressed with the sex recession.
‘Only a minority report dissatisfaction with their sex lives, suggesting that sex may be less central to overall wellbeing than many assume,’ the team said.
‘Only 18 per cent are unsatisfied with their sex life.’
The researchers said the issue appears to be opportunity, not desire.
‘Dating exhaustion, fear of rejection, financial strain and changing social norms may be making connection more difficult,’ they said.
‘For 43 per cent, financial concerns made it harder for them to date or maintain romantic relationships and, for 37 per cent, financial stress has negatively affected their sex life.’
Young adults are increasingly meeting intimacy needs in other ways, they explained.
‘Digital connection, online sexual experiences, friendships, and other forms of fulfilment may be reducing the pressure to pursue traditional romantic relationships,’ they added.
Around a quarter said online interactions – such as messaging, social media and AI companions – fulfil some of their intimacy needs.

A similar amount said spending time on screens reduces their motivation to pursue real-life sexual connections.
A previous study found that nearly four in ten people aged 18 to 30 reported having no sexual partners during the last 12 months, up from 22 per cent a decade earlier

Is modern technology making young people happier or lonelier when it comes to love and relationships?

‘Many participants told us that pornography, camming, AI companions, and other forms of digital intimacy fulfilled at least some of their emotional or sexual needs,’ the researchers said.
‘At the same time, many described these experiences as easier, less emotionally demanding, and more accessible than pursuing intimacy with another person.’
Despite having less sex, the sex they have is not necessarily safer, the researchers warned.
Contraceptive use among Gen Z is often inconsistent, they said, and many have never been tested for STIs.
Only 35 per cent reported typically using condoms and approximately a third said they had never been tested for an STI.
‘Modern-day dating really is an absolute mess, not because Gen Z has stopped wanting love, sex, or connection, but because the journey from desire to intimacy has become more complicated than ever,’ the researchers concluded.
It comes as some social media influencers, including TikTokers bts.mulli and karniel.g, urged their fans not to lose their virginity.
According to a separate study, Gen Z is also shunning alcohol in favour of a cup of tea.

Conducted by Twinings, the survey found that almost half (47 per cent) of Gen Z say tea has replaced alcohol as the thing they reach for before big moments. In contrast, just 25 per cent of Baby Boomers say the same thing.
You wouldn’t be the only person to associate holidays with happiness, but it turns out your destination of choice could be contributing to just how content you feel.
One UK spot even makes the top five, according to the Holiday Happiness Index study from BookRetreats.
‘When we talk about feeling good, we’re really talking about the release of happy hormones like serotonin, dopamine, endorphins, and oxytocin,’ says Harvard-affiliated clinical psychologist and holistic happiness expert, Dr Natalie Dattilo-Ryan.

‘These chemicals influence everything from mood and sleep to energy and digestion.
‘And many of the things that trigger them, like sunlight, movement, food, and quality rest, are often part of a good holiday, if you choose the right destination.’
Here’s a rundown of the best places – does your favourite holiday destination make the cut?
1. Lisbon, Portugal
Advertisement
In the number one winning spot for happy destinations is Lisbon in Portugal
More than 8 per cent of its restaurants are rated healthy, while its walkable streets make navigating on foot easy and rewarding.
The city boasts over 2,800 hours of sunshine throughout the year, with quick access to green spaces and beaches, merging lifestyle and nature in a way that promotes overall wellbeing.

2. Helsinki, Finland
In second place, taking the silver medal, is Helsinki in Finland
The main appeal here? Nature. With plenty of parks and trees built into the cityscape, there’s an average of around 1,356 square feet of green space per person – compared to some 450 square feet of public green space per person in London.
It leads the index for sleep quality, too, and is very walkable. It also scored highly for its calm ambience, safe streets and efficient transport.

3. Orlando, US
Theme park paradise Orlando takes the third place bronze medal
Orlando is the theme park capital of the world – so it’s hardly a surprise it ranks highly for happiness.
It’s also among the greenest destinations in the US, with 2,777 square feet of green space per person – the highest figure in the index.
With 2,930 hours of sunshine a year, it’s also glorious weather-wise, with major attractions for visitors to enjoy in the sun – such as Universal Studios Florida, Universal Volcano Bay and Lake Eola Park.

4. Athens, Greece
Athens, the capital of Greece, scoops up the fourth place award in the Happiness Index
In fourth place, Athens boasts 2,773 hours of sunshine and plenty of history and culture for visitors to soak up.
It’s ranked as the most walkable destination in the study, with key attractions all accessible on foot, such as the Acropolis of Athens, Temple of Olympian Zeus and Panathenaic Stadium.
Food is top too, with nearly 10 per cent of restaurants serving healthy options and an excellent cafe culture on hand.

5. Edinburgh, Scotland

Earl Charles Spencer has issued a public apology to Piers Morgan over what he’s described as an “incorrect assumption” about the divisive broadcaster in his new memoir Swan Song.
Speaking on his YouTube channel Piers Morgan Uncensored on Monday evening, the former Good Morning Britain star read an excerpt from Swan Song in which Earl Spencer recalled telling Piers he was no longer invited to Princess Diana’s funeral.

The book makes reference to Earl Spencer contacting “Piers Morgan of The Mirror”, who the Earl said “sounded surly, as opposed to merely confused or embarrassed” and “snarled with annoyance before he hung up”.
“I assumed Morgan must be feeling particular guilt because, years earlier, he and his Sunday Mirror counterpart had published photographs taken with hidden cameras by a gym owner. They were of Diana working out in a leotard,” the passage read.
“This was such an intolerable invasion of her privacy that Diana instructed lawyers to sue the Mirror Group and to block further use of these images.”
“For a while it looked as though the Mirror Group would be brazen enough to allow the case to go to court, calculating that whatever their newspapers lost financially at trial would be more than recouped through global publicity,” Earl Spencer went on to write.

“Despite significant public outrage at the pictures, and loss of revenue when some major companies withdrew their advertising from the Mirror Group, Morgan’s triumphant spokesman boasted that sales of his paper and of the Sunday Mirror had each risen by more than a hundred thousand copies since splashing the intrusive shots.
“But after that, public curiosity turned into general revulsion, and both papers’ circulation dropped significantly. This commercial setback persuaded the Mirror Group to fold. It agreed to pay Diana’s legal costs, of around £1 million, and it was obliged to further acknowledge its guilt by making donations of £200,000 to her chosen charities.”

Responding to the passage, Piers claimed: “There’s just one problem – it’s all bullshit, and very, very easy bullshit for me to prove it.”
He then pointed out he wasn’t even working at The Mirror at the time of the pictures’ publication, and threatened legal action against Earl Spencer for the “complete lie”.

In a statement to HuffPost UK on Tuesday afternoon, Earl Spencer’s team maintained that his “account of his conversation with Piers Morgan is accurate”, insisting that “Mr Morgan was surly and annoyed when Earl Spencer called personally to tell him that he was not welcome at his sister’s funeral”.
The statement went on to say: “The book then records Earl Spencer’s assumption that Mr Morgan’s response was because he was editor of the Daily Mirror when the Mirror Group had published highly intrusive photographs of Princess Diana at the gym. The photographs were published by the Sunday Mirror on 7 November 1993. Mr Morgan has pointed out that he did not join the Daily Mirror until October 1995.
“As an historian, accuracy is important to Earl Spencer. He therefore wishes to clarify that his assumption was incorrect. Earl Spencer apologises to Mr Morgan for this error.”
HuffPost UK has contacted Piers Morgan’s team for additional comment.

Swan Song had already made headlines in the lead-up to its publication, particularly over one part in which Earl Spencer alleged that King Charles told him in the wake of Diana’s death that “we’ll forget her soon enough” –prompting a rare response from the Palace.
“While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss,” a royal rep said.
Hayden Panettiere’s cause of death has been officially confirmed, one month after the star died aged 36.
Panettiere died August 16 at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, in what authorities said was suspected as a drug ‘overdose.’ Her on-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother, Zach, were both at the scene when Panettiere was pronounced dead.
Now, a spokesman for the Greenville County Coroner’s Office has confirmed to The Daily Mail that Panettiere died from the ‘toxic effects’ of multiple drugs – including fentanyl.
A spokesman said, ‘An autopsy was completed by a Board Certified Forensic Pathologist. At autopsy no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death.

‘The cause of death has been ruled as toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine. The manner of death has been ruled accident.
‘This case is administratively closed by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.’

Panettiere had a ‘long time drug dealer’ in Los Angeles who she obtained narcotics from illegally, with oxycodone among them, sources told the outlet.
Authorities said that the day prior to her passing, Panettiere had taken multiple drugs she bought in Los Angeles before flying to South Carolina, where she was found dead the next day.

Panettiere’s rep said in a statement earlier this month, ‘As reported yesterday by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, Hayden’s death remains under investigation pending the completion of toxicology results, despite reports from some outlets stating otherwise.
‘Recent reports attributed to unnamed sources are unverified hearsay and have attributed to conflicting information that continues to circulate.’
The statement continued: ‘While we are all eager to find closure and better understand the circumstances surrounding her passing, we must remain patient and allow the investigative process to unfold.’
The late Heroes star’s rep concluded in saying that ‘the answers we are all seeking will come.’

On the day she died, first responders arrived at a Greenville, South Carolina, condo where attempts were made to resuscitate the actress, before she had been pronounced dead.
Hickerson’s lawyer Sloan Ellis said in a statement August 20 that ‘Hayden’s death remains under investigation and it is important to allow that investigation to proceed.
‘As has been publicly reported, police confirmed there were no signs of foul play. Out of respect for Hayden’s loved ones and the ongoing investigation, there will be no further comment at this time.’
Panettiere began acting as a child, appearing in soap operas, then gained wider recognition for her role in the 2000 sports drama Remember the Titans with Denzel Washington, and as the voice of Dot in Pixar’s 1998 film A Bug’s Life.

Panettiere later found fame playing cheerleader Claire Bennet in the superhero drama Heroes before starring as country singer Juliette Barnes for six seasons on Nashville.
She earned two Golden Globe nominations for best supporting actress on the show, while her singing produced 11 entries on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
Panettiere’s film credits include 2006’s Bring It On: All or Nothing, the comedy-drama film Raising Helen, and appearances in Scream 4 and Scream VI as Kirby Reed.
She had an 11-year-old daughter called Kaya following a life-threatening birth, and later gave full custody of the child to her former fiancé, Ukrainian boxer Wladimir Klitschko.

Panettiere’s passing was announced by her father Skip Panettiere, who said in a statement: ‘It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden.
‘She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her – and to the millions who watched her onscreen. We ask for privacy as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss.’
Authorities in Greenville, South Carolina, subsequently said that officials responded to an apartment in the area after receiving a report of an ‘unresponsive female’ via a possible ‘drug overdose,’ subsequently determined to be Panettiere.
