Bitcoin fell below $68,000 as crypto weakness continued across major tokens, with Ethereum and XRP also trading lower.
One of the biggest pressure points is ETF flow reversal. Wintermute said spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs recorded roughly $2 billion in combined outflows over 10 days, marking the longest redemption streak since launch. That matters because the institutional bid that helped drive Bitcoin higher earlier this year has weakened, leaving crypto more exposed to fading momentum and macro pressure.
Strategy also added to bearish sentiment after revealing in a June 1 Form 8-K that it sold 32 Bitcoin for roughly $2.5 million between May 26 and May 31. The timing created controversy on Polymarket, where a market on whether Strategy would sell Bitcoin by May 31 was disputed after confirmation arrived after the deadline. A trader posting as willo2 said he lost roughly $500,000 and claimed the rules were changed after the fact.
Fundstrat’s Tom Lee pushed back on the bearish narrative, saying the Bitcoin and Ethereum thesis is “absolutely not” broken. Lee argued that crypto infrastructure remains important as AI agents, tokenization, decentralized identity, and blockchain settlement systems expand. He also laid out a long-term framework where Bitcoin could theoretically reach $2 million if it eventually matched gold’s network value while gold reaches $5,000.
