Devin Haney has already ruled in three weight divisions and after just one fight at welterweight, the 27-year-old southpaw may be set to move on to another new weight.
Haney became the undisputed lightweight world champion when he defeated George Kambosos, before defending the throne in a rematch with the Aussie and then against the legendary Vasyl Lomachenko.
The Californian then routed Regis Prograis to get his hands on the WBC super-lightweight crown in 2023 and, after a controversial no-contest against Ryan Garcia and a catchweight clash with Jose Carlos Ramirez, Haney moved on to the welterweight scene.
On his 147lb debut in November, Haney put together one of the performances of the year to overcome Brian Norman Jr and claim the WBO welterweight strap, teeing up a host of superfights at welterweight, including a grudge match rematch with Garcia.
Although, despite a number of lucrative options in his current division, Bill Haney, father and trainer of Devin, told ThaBoxingVoice that his son may move up to super-welterweight in order to take on unified WBA and WBO 154lb titleholder, Xander Zayas.
“We have a relationship with Top Rank and we know that [Zayas fight] can be an option.
“Being a four-time champ, has a lust, an appeal, a legacy component in there. Xander having a country behind him in Puerto Rico, it makes for an exciting story.”
Yet, despite Zayas being boxing’s youngest unified world champion, holding two of the four super-welterweight belts, Bill Haney went on to dismiss the Puerto Rican star’s chances in the proposed contest.
“That man Xander is food. He is food.”
Zayas is currently in pursuit of the undisputed throne and has recently called for a three-belt unification fight against newly crowned IBF champion, Josh Kelly.

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Thursday that Elroy Face, a member of the club’s Hall of Fame and the franchise’s all-time leader in games pitched, had died at the age of 97.
“It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we mourn the passing of Pirates Hall of Famer Elroy Face, a beloved member of the Pirates family,” Pirates Chairman Bob Nutting said in a team-issued statement. “I was fortunate to get to know Elroy personally, and I will always be proud that we had the chance to honor him with his induction into the Pirates Hall of Fame.”
Face pitched in parts of 16 big-league seasons (1953, 1955-69) after being selected in the Rule 5 draft from the Brooklyn Dodgers. He would subsequently make the leap from Double-A to the majors, flourishing after developing one of the best forkballs in the sport’s history.
“When he had that great year in 1959 you had to wonder how he did it, but he did, had that great forkball and I don’t think he weighed more than 145 pounds,” a bullpen catcher said of Face.
Face then spent 15 of those 16 seasons with the Pirates (he would suit up for the Detroit Tigers and Montreal Expos before retiring after the 1969 season). Overall, he logged a 3.48 ERA (109 ERA+) and a 2.42 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 848 appearances, all the while recording 191 saves (the statistic did not become official until most of the way through his career) and 21.1 Wins Above Replacement. He helped the Pirates win the 1960 World Series, notching three saves in the Fall Classic against the New York Yankees.
Face made three All-Star Games while pitching in six total — Major League Baseball played multiple Midsummer Classics for a time as a means of raising funds for the players’ pension funds. Face also received Most Valuable Player Award consideration on three occasions, including after his remarkable 1959 season that saw him post an 18-1 record across 57 relief appearances.

Mark Robins hopes Stoke’s decline in form and “unprecedented” injury crisis will not affect the morale in the Potters’ camp.
Since rising to second place in the Championship after 17 games at the end of November, the Potters have won three, drawn four and lost eight of their next 15 games.

City’s injury list grew to double figures with Bosun Lawal limping off with what Robins called a “significant” muscle injury in Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat at Charlton, which left Stoke 14th.
He joins goalkeepers Viktor Johansson and Gavin Bazunu, forwards Divin Mubama and Sam Gallagher, midfielder Lewis Baker and right-back Junior Tchamadeu among those in the treatment room, while illness has also spread through the camp leading into Sunday’s FA Cup fourth round tie at home to Fulham.
Robins told BBC Radio Stoke: “There’s illness and significant injury. It’s not an easy time, that’s for sure, but it’s a challenge I have to face and wade through.
“For me, this is unprecedented in my career, I have never known a situation like this before. Each one has a knock-on and to pick your way through it is difficult.
“It’s disappointing, it can be demoralising at times, you can be ‘woe is me,’ but it’s the situation we’re in and we have to deal with it, there’s nothing I can do about it. The injuries were not avoidable.”
Despite the crisis, Robins said he is looking forward to the challenge of facing the Cottagers, who sit 12th in the Premier League.
“It’s a good thing because we have a chance to play Premier League opponents,” he said. “That’s what the Cup throws up. You don’t get that chance very often, sometimes pre-season, sometimes not at all.”
The injuries have been particularly damaging in an attacking sense – Stoke have only scored twice in their past six matches, and not at all in the past three.

Robins added: “It’s something we have to be better at. There are times when we get opportunities to shoot but we turn it down or take it a fraction late.
“The whole ethos in this game is to score. We may forget that at times and pass responsibility to somebody else. Is that a confidence thing? I don’t know.
“The front end we have learners with the L plates on. They have to stay confident and positive because these times can impact your confidence and morale.
“In the case of (January arrival) Milan Smit, he’s been playing and scoring goals in the Europa League and comes here and you find it different and difficult.
“He’s going to be a good player for us but it’s going to take time.”
Inconsistencies continued to plague India as they slumped to a 0-8 defeat against Argentina, with Tomas Domene netting four goals in the Rourkela leg of the FIH Men’s Pro League here on Thursday.
Domene (15′, 20′, 26′, 60′) led the charge with his multiple strikes, while Tomas Ruiz (14′), Lucio Mendez (22′), Ignacio Ibarra (25′) and Nicolas Della Torre (30′) also found the net as the visitors completely overpowered a lacklustre Indian side at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium.
India started on the front foot, attempting to make early inroads, but after a brief spell of dominance, they squandered a golden opportunity to take the lead towards the closing stages of the first quarter when they were awarded a penalty stroke.
Harmanpreet Singh was denied from the spot by the Argentine goalkeeper.
Argentina scored almost instantly with Ruiz (14′) powering his tomahawk into the back of the net to give his side the lead. The visitors quickly doubled their advantage as Domene (15′) managed to guide his effort past Suraj Karkera to give his side a 2-0 lead in the opening quarter.
Searching for a way back into the contest, India began the second quarter with greater urgency as Shilanand Lakra and Harmanpreet Singh earned a couple of penalty corners. However, they were unable to convert, with a goal continuing to elude them.
With momentum on their side, Argentina continued to pile on the pressure. Domene (20′) tripled the lead with a composed finish, and Mendez (22′) soon added a fourth.
Ignacio Ibarra (25′) rifled his shot from a tight angle to score a fifth, while Domene (26′) completed his hat-trick soon after.
Nicolas della Torre (30′) also got on the scoresheet, closing out the first half with a 7-0 lead for Argentina.
India created some opportunities with Shilanand and Aditya Lalage coming close to finding the back of the net. However, Tomas Santiago stood tall in the goal for Argentina. Despite creating scoring opportunities, the third quarter ended goalless.
The hosts pushed forward in the final quarter, earning their third penalty corner. However, Argentina managed to find the back of the net against the run of play with Domene (60′) adding a fourth goal to his tally, and giving his side a big win.
Jan 8, 2026; Spokane, Washington, USA; Santa Clara Broncos guard Sash Gavalyugov (2) shoots the ball against Gonzaga Bulldogs forward Graham Ike (15) in the second half at McCarthey Athletic Center. Mandatory Credit: James Snook-Imagn Images Santa Clara is enjoying a memorable season, but it can boost its success to another level when it hosts No. 12 Gonzaga on Saturday night in a battle for first place in the West Coast Conference.
The Broncos have won nine straight games since losing 89-77 to the Bulldogs on Jan. 8 in Spokane, Wash. This contest also marks the last regular-season battle between programs that have been in the same conference for the past 46 seasons and first met in 1959.
“We’ll keep it straightforward,” Santa Clara guard Sash Gavalyugov said. “It’s our last game against Gonzaga in the WCC, so we look to beat them for a goodbye. We look to be undefeated for the rest of the season.”
The Broncos (22-5, 13-1 WCC) stand a half-game ahead of the Bulldogs (24-2, 12-1) with Saint Mary’s (22-4, 11-2) looming close behind in third place.
Gonzaga coach Mark Few feels Santa Clara shouldn’t have any trouble being part of March Madness despite the school last qualifying in 1996.
“They’re an NCAA Tournament team,” Few said. “They pass the eye test.”
The Steve Nash-era Broncos went to the tournament three times in the 1990s and went 2-3, including the still-talked about upset of No. 2 seed Arizona in 1993.
Santa Clara is 13-0 at home entering the clash with Gonzaga, and coach Herb Sendek is doing his best to downplay the hype.
“It’s the next game on our schedule,” Sendek said after the Broncos’ 84-72 home win over Seattle University on Wednesday. “We don’t look at the name on the jersey or the tip time or the weather or whether it’s a holiday or any other thing that can enter someone’s mind.
“When it’s time to play, our conference schedule demands the best of us.”
Gavalyugov, a freshman, made five 3-pointers and scored 21 points against Seattle. He had scored in single digits seven straight times since his explosive 37-point outing against Loyola Marymount on Jan. 10.
One game ahead of his career-best outing, he had eight points on 2-of-7 shooting against Gonzaga. Bulldogs star Graham Ike scored 34 points on 13-of-17 shooting and collected 11 rebounds in the Gonzaga win. “We guarded them really, really good and rebounded the ball well,” Few said of the contest that was tied at halftime and saw the Bulldogs lead by as many as 23 in the second half.
Ike has scored 30 or more in three of his past six appearances and has made 21 of 28 field-goal attempts over the past two games. He matched his career best of 35 points while making 13 of 18 shots in an 81-61 rout of Oregon State on Feb. 7, and he followed up with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting in an 83-53 home shellacking of Washington State on Tuesday.
Freshman Davis Fogle added 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting off the bench vs. the Cougars and was lauded by Few for his defense. Fogle had a season-high three blocked shots and matched his high of three steals in 23 minutes.
“I think on the defensive end, the game’s slowed down a lot,” Fogle said. “… Still working on it every day in practice and taking all the advice I can from coaches.” Despite the Broncos splitting the regular-season series with the Bulldogs the past two campaigns, this is another one of those WCC rivalries long owned by Gonzaga.
The Bulldogs had won 26 straight matchups and 35 of 36 prior to the recent splits.
Gonzaga has won 22 of the past 24 meetings at Santa Clara. The Broncos won in 2011 and 2024.
Gonzaga will move into the rebuilt Pac-12 next season. –Field Level Media

The prestigious event will be contested on a 2.5-mile-long tri-oval superspeedway. 41 drivers will compete over 200 laps (500 miles) to drive down victory lane. FOX Sports reporter Bob Pockrass has revealed the starting lineup for the 2026 Daytona 500.
Thanks for the submission!
Richard Childress Racing driver Kyle Busch has already secured the pole for the race in Wednesday’s single-car qualifying to lead the field to green at Daytona International Speedway. He will be joined by Chase Briscoe on the front row after the latter posted the second-fastest lap in qualifying.
Team Penske driver Joey Logano won Duel 1, edging out his teammate Ryan Blaney at the finish line on Thursday, and will start third in Sunday’s 500-mile race.
Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott won the Duel 2 after beating Carson Hocevar on the final lap. Elliott will start fourth in the race.

Tottenham Hotspur plan to name an interim manager for the remainder of the season, before making a long-term appointment in the summer.
Thomas Frank was sacked earlier this week, with Spurs five points above the relegation places.
Sources have told BBC Sport that Spurs are confident of finalising a deal for an interim manager before the players return to training on Monday.
Spurs’ exit in the FA Cup third round mean they have a nine-day break before the north London derby against rivals Arsenal on 22 February.
With no fixture this weekend, the first team squad were given time off and asked to return on Monday.
The club are aware that mid-season options are limited and that there is likely to be greater availability for potential managers at the end of the campaign.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis has been in the spotlight as he is set to become a free agent this offseason. Willis served as the backup to Jordan Love for the past two seasons, but appears to be linked to several teams after a few impressive cameos in the 2025 season.
On Thursday, former NFL QB Chris Simms appeared on the “Dan Patrick Show,” and showered praise on Willis.
Thanks for the submission!
“I think Malik Willis is a superstar,” Simms said. “I would think he is the crowning gem of guys that’s going to be out there as far as free agents you can get.”

Patrick then asked Simms if the Pittsburgh Steelers, valued at $6.5 billion by Forbes, could be interested in signing Willis.

“If I were them, I’d be looking at that,” Simms said. “Malik Willis has proven he’s got special talent. He’s got a special arm, special mobility. He knows how to run the offense and do all of that. So yeah, he’s a great story here.”
Simms was then asked if he liked Willis more than Love.
“It’s closer than I ever thought it would be,” Simms said. “And I’m really a Jordan Love fan … but Malik Willis, I’m not going to say he’s better than Jordan Love right now. I will say he shows more potential to be a greater player than Jordan Love. That’s what I would say right now, but I’ve got to see a little more before I say he’s better than Jordan Love.”
Willis was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the third round of the 2022 draft. He was traded to the Packers in August 2024.
The 2025 season was the final year for Willis on his rookie contract that he signed with the Titans.

Earlier this week, reports claimed that the Cleveland Browns were interested in signing Malik Willis during the offseason. However, Browns insider Tony Grossi shut down any talk of the QB’s rumored move to Cleveland, while suggesting the team has a big cap space issue with Deshaun Watson.
“Anybody who connects Malik Willis to the Browns is ignorant of their Deshaun Watson cap situation. Ain’t happenin,’” Grossi tweeted on Tuesday.
Willis did well when he led the Packers’ offense in 2025. He completed 85.7% of his passes for 422 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions, while having a 145.5 passer rating. The QB also had 22 carries for 123 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Apart from the Browns, the Miami Dolphins reportedly have an interest in signing Willis.
