When I first started powerlifting, I quickly realized that standard conventional deadlifts didn’t work well for me.
Sure I COULD do them…but I never felt as strong, and too much volume or intensity always wrecked my low back.
But once I switched to sumo deadlifts, not only could I lift more weight, but it significantly reduced the stress on my lower back as well.
So if someone wants to call me a cheater, I’m all good with that – at least I could deadlift pain-free!
If you’re looking to load up your deadlifts but maybe don’t have the structure or mobility to deadlift with a trap bar in a conventional stance, going with a wider sumo stance may be exactly what you’re looking for.
Give it a shot and let me know what you think!
