Hi, I’m Meg.

I’m on a mission to get a barbell in every woman’s hands.

After gaining almost 50lbs, I felt so uncomfortable in my own skin. I was trapped in a never-ending cycle of shame and guilt, completely clueless on how to turn things around.

Realizing I needed to take the first step, I set my sights on just one exercise. The barbell squat. For 6 months I went to the gym, warmed up, squatted, and then walked out the door. I gave myself permission to build instead of shrink. As the weeks passed my confidence (and strength) skyrocketed.

Fast forward to today, almost 10 years from that single exercise routine, I’ve helped thousands of women find their confidence and femininity through strength.

  1. 7 months ago a 35yr (125 pounds) woman ask me about strength training at our local gym, I told her about compound lifting (sumo deadlift)(barbell squats)(bench press) using the 5X5X5 system(5 sets, 5 reps, and add 5 pounds each week, except the sumo deadlift (one set of 5 of her working set). In the sumo deadlift she has hit 315 for 5 and 350 for 1 rep. We seem to have it her maximum weight in the sumo at 350 for 1. She seems interested in entering a powerlifting meet within the year. For now I suggest (in the sumo deadlift) to do 65 percent of this exercise to stay healthy until a few months out of her first meet, then she can work back up (we will be working on her grip strength). Do you have any suggestions for her on how many sets and reps for her 65 percent maximum in the sumo deadlift. Note: she will do a working set of 245 next week in the barbell squat and she seems to be stuck at 135 pounds in the bench press. Thank you for any help as I would like for her to succeed (I'm just an older lifter helping her out…

  2. just remember it's not a RDL, the focus should be in the legs. (no hinging at the hips)

  3. pretty person darn, thanks f0r tips, did deadifts yesterday 🙂 no belt, no chalk, no socks – whoops

  4. I love how informative you are!

  5. Good evening, young lady! You condensed a lot of information in to a short video, and without too much detail, I still trust what you're saying. I agree with why everyone says that taller lifters favour conventional; however, I'm 6 feet 3/192cm and prefer sumo at the moment. That being said, that's simply because I have an injury/persistent soreness in the lower back which prevents me from pulling conventional. I have found that exercise (any movement) does relieve pain; do you advise simply lifting a lot lighter conventionally until the soreness goes away or persist with sumo. Also, I notice that your back angle in sumo is quite bent over compared to many others (men), is this a conscious choice, you can't due to mobility or is simply correct? I have very long legs for my height and probably pull with a similar back angle but always under the assumption that it is too shallow and I am doing a slightly wider version of conventional.

  6. just discovered your channel. so, so, so good! very informative, extremely clear, and encouraging. wish i had come across you earlier in my fitness journey

  7. This is the best best advice

  8. I seen the vid where she was being taught power cling she didn't give up until she got it

  9. A gym is a place where fat is burned and pride is earned.

  10. Should you have a strong core before you start lifting or does that strengthen the core. Thank you.

  11. I love sumo deadlifting.

  12. First time watching this channel. I have found that women do just about all things technically correct. They learn the forms and movements with strict form and technique and work slowly to increase or improve the task from a golf swing to weightlifting.

  13. Really wish training barefoot or with flat shoes was mentioned before outside this video by other content creators. Lots of nice info here. In middle of reviewing my workouts after losing weight and muscle gain esp in chest where I was unhappy. Seems small stuff makes great deal of difference.

  14. Can you explain why these are good to do/have? Like the flat shoes, why? Cuz I do cardio before my weight/strength so I am usually already wearing running shoes

  15. I have watched so many deadlifting videos and packing your lats was just thr tip I needed!! Meg is the best
    Love your videos.

  19. I'm a relative beginner when it comes to coventional deadlift, I have been using a mixed grip. But recently I watched another YTuber saying don't use a mixed grip. What would you recommend?

  20. How many Kg does the bar weigh?
