257W FTP (seated) 86kgs, 29yrs, and have been sort of training cycling for a month and a half before this test (did this test 3 weeks ago). Did an outdoor FTP estimating climb before this got 280W for 24mins so that would be around a 265W FTP outdoors but that was before I started training. (Had to take a two months break not much after this climb unrelated but couldn't train) Going to test on that climb once the weather gets better. Would be nice to have an FTP outdoors around 280W. Trying triathlon for the first time this year, so still not that much focus on cycling. What would you suggest/opinion?
It’s easy to go fast. But what we want is FAST FOR A LONG TIME.
My ftp is 310w. I started cycling 9 months ago. My fist ftp was around 244, it was 6 months ago. I started increasing both workouts and switched to training with periodization, I hope to reach the indicator of 330-340 watts by summer. My weight is 66 kg. And I don't have a coach
I have just started riding on road bike regurally for 1 month placed in turbo trainer – I have Kickr v6. My FTP was 160W and peak power 450W. After 4 weeks I have FTP 255 and peak power 1100W. 60s power around 800W. I plan to start bile racing and progress with training, I reely not suffer on hills after 4 weeks not a problem to have 11,5W per kg. I am planning to aim next month FTP 300 and peak power 1400W. I am 39 years old now. 88kg of weight. Plan also to have weight around 80kg for next year and will see how it helps.
I thougt watts was how fast you pedal. But that's cadence, and it's measured in RPM. now i'm confused.
500 watts men!!! For 10 minutes is harderest!!
I can go 220 watts for 35 to 40 minutes. I could probably go for longer if i overcame the pain. Easier said than done. My peak power is probably around 300.
I ride my wifes peloton. No cycling experience. 6 ft 4, 180 lbs, FTP 425. Watts per KG around 5.3.
1 watt/kg
Cadence?
I am 61 and have been cycling for some years. Weight is 98 kg, and my 20 min FTP is 342W which is 3,5W/kg. Should I go for Gran Fondo?
400 watts for 1 min? Lance Armstrong averaged 500 watts for 35 minutes in 1999 Tour France. Average. Texas will secede from broken US. We are different
what do you think your going to the olympics? Just ride for the pure enjoyment of it. Dont worry about ftp or wattage. Ridiculous. forget about all this other garbage.
this guy is insane, 200 w and only 127 HR bpm
I can do 370watts for 40 seconds 63 rpm
You absolutely have to look up a video to assemble it, but otherwise perfectly good.
Fell in love with cycling, finding the sport I can do very well. In 8 months of polarized training 6 days a week I'm currently at 4.6watt/kg with a goal of 5.5. Coming from a rock scrambling and casual MTB background. I expect to reach that in 16-24 months. Eat, live, breath, and rest cycling. Maybe an altitude tent is next! I want to crush e-bikes!
I started cycling on and off last summer but almost nothing (and no background in sports or working out whatsoever) 34yrs old guy, 75kg 181cm. After maybe a month dedicated training this spring I did a lactate and VO2max test which showed my LT @ 115w/125bpm and AT (FTP) @ 165w/165bpm. Max pulse 201bpm. VO2 3368ml/min = 44,9 VO2Max and I had to stop the test at 240w because my legs had no power left. At that point my lactate level was 9,3mmol/l. The test was performed 2023-03-20 and I´ve now cycled according to a dedicated schedule with about 3 rest days a week. I just came back from what was supposed to be my first real HIIT session and it didnt go as planned, but anyway during the ride my 20min max power was 206W, and I feel a good improvement since the test. In 2 months I´ll do a follow-up test same as the first one, if I remember I can comment below this about my results after 4 months training.
did you ever reach your goal of 300 ftp?
I did 420watt average on a 1hour30min race. So i guess im a pro
I’ve been riding my echelon bike for about 5 months, I’m 145 lbs and can now sustain 243 watts for 1 hour and, and a 20 min FTP of 265. Not sure if this is good or not
my average watt as seen on strava is around 145 – 160, i.e., 2.5 to 3watt per kg. is it good? I started long rides less than 1 month ago, i.e., 1.5 to 2hr rides.
My ftp is175 ,,,,I’m 55 yrs ,,,been doing watt bike for 6 months ,,,any idea where I can get ftp to
The information in this channel is so well delivered. I always learn a lot and follow your channel
So I use Spin class ..If I’m using a higher resistance at the same RPM does my Wattage increase? Thanks
Average Rob brought me here…
Just starting now on an indoor stationary bike that mimics a trainer – meaning it gives watts, cadence and simulates gears. I'm not even trying to race – I just want to find a good Zone 2 power band @ 85-90 rpm to establish a base. And thus far it seems to be about 85-100 watts (BTW – I'm 49 years old and also an experienced runner, but not cyclist – I have about 1 hour on 4 days/week to train). Any ideas about how to gradually build a base over say 12 weeks, before getting into building a competitive FTP? Thanks.
This is great content thanks man
35 years old, started riding 2.5 years ago and now at 3.3w/kg (i'm 70kg so thats 231w). I'm happy but gonna keep grinding to get BETTER!!!!
Really interesting. I've been riding for about 30 years. Never raced except for a few triathlons. Some long rides/weeks. My most was 524miles in a week 20+ years ago. I just got a power meter enabled trainer and I'm trying to understand a little bit more where I am starting from. I can find things on people who race, but that hasn't been me and won't be me. Of course then it doesn't matter that much as I just have to be good enough to enjoy my ride and get home, but we are all a bit competitive…just look at all the arguments about FTP in the comments. 211 which is about 2.8w/kg is where I am starting from for my first FTP test(20 min). 45 year old guy (who uses his wife's Youtube account). As I spend the winter training for power, it will be interesting to see what will happen when I get back outside in the spring.
I can go with over 900 watts for one hour or so. That's my battery's capacity btw :)))
Hello Community,
I come from a soccer, running, and swim background and I have no idea what all these materials are except for the heart rate monitor.
Does anyone have a video suggestion that dives deeper on how to use that machine that he is riding on?
Aspiring to finish an Ironman.
Some people only thing about power in this chat, obviously weight has a massive role to play, pros are athletes and diet is a huge part.. some novices have similar power outputs to some pros, but weigh a lot more..
Your HR Max is 180?
Lol! All the bullshitters on here are hilarious!
I feel comfortable going down hill. Came here after a search for how many watts a cyclist can put out. This video is amazing in explaining power levels
My ftp is 195 watts and I’ve been training for about a year. I’m only 58kg and when I started my ftp was 113 watts Its good to see myself getting quicker all the time and I’m only 17 this video was useful
