Injuries have hit both the Pittsburgh Steelers and their Week 2 opponent, the New England Patriots, pretty hard ahead of Sunday’s matchup. But one of the biggest losses belongs to the Patriots, who just received some bad injury news.

On Saturday, the Patriots downgraded standout cornerback Carlton Davis III, who’s been battling a neck injury, from questionable to out for the Week 2 matchup against the Steelers.

Nigeria international defender Chidinma Okeke has officially joined Italian club Napoli Women from Mexican side América Femenil.

The 26-year-old defender completed the move on Friday, September 18, signing a two-year contract that will keep her at Napoli until 2028.

Okeke joins the Italian club after two seasons with América, where she helped the team win the 2025/26 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

During the 2025/26 season, the Nigerian played 27 matches in the Liga MX Femenil and featured in seven Champions Cup games.

The move to Napoli marks another step in Okeke’s international career, having previously played in Nigeria, Spain, Japan and Mexico.

She started her career with Robo Queens in Nigeria before moving to Madrid CFF in Spain in 2019. She later joined Japan’s Mynavi Sendai before signing for América in August 2024.

At Napoli, Okeke can play both as a centre-back and full-back, giving the team another defensive option ahead of the new Serie A Women season.

The defender also has considerable experience with the Nigerian national team. She featured at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

She was also part of the Super Falcons squad at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Okeke’s first competitive appearance for Napoli could come on September 26, when the club begin their 2026/27 Serie A Women campaign away to Juventus at Biella. The match is scheduled for 12:30pm in Italy, which is 11:30am Nigerian time.

Napoli finished seventh in the 2025/26 Serie A Women season. The new campaign will feature 12 teams, with the top three earning places in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the bottom team being relegated to Serie B.

Speaking after joining the club, Okeke said she was happy with her first days in Naples after meeting the coach, staff and her new teammates.

She added that her aim is to give her best and contribute to the team.

Sheza Alibi is set to make her debut over 2000 metres in the upcoming Group 1 Might And Power Stakes at Caulfield.

This strategic move will grant trainers Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman a three-week period to prepare the mare for the Group 1 Golden Eagle (1500m) at Randwick on October 31.

According to Moody, Sheza Alibi has demonstrated remarkable progress since her decisive victory in the Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 12, indicating that another run is beneficial prior to the Golden Eagle.

Moody’s decision to avoid the Toorak Handicap, held on the same day as the Might And Power, was influenced by the potential for Sheza Alibi to carry an excessive weight.

Looking at the broader racing calendar, Moody believes that contesting the 2000m race now will expand her future racing options.

“I think she gets too much weight in the Toorak and the weight-for-age race I think will suit her better,” Moody commented.

“There might be 10 or 12 runners, rather than 16 in a Toorak with 57 (kg) or 58 on her back.

“It’s 2000 metres and then she’ll go three weeks back to the 1500 metres of the Golden Eagle.

“It gives her good exposure for the future and experience at 2000 metres.

“She’s done that well in seven days. I think it makes life easy and I don’t have to train her.

“I think if you look at history over a long time, a lot of nice horses have won over a mile-and-a-quarter and then come back to that mile mark in 21 days, so I don’t see that as a problem.”

The Might And Power Stakes has historically seen smaller fields, with only one occasion in the last five years featuring double-digit runners (10 in 2023), and the preceding year saw a field of only four.

Notably, in 2016, Winx achieved her win against just two other competitors.

Moody affirmed that Sheza Alibi’s preparation has been ideal for a 2000m race.

“She’s had a run at 1400 (metres), a run at a mile, a lovely preparation for 2000 metres,” Moody said.

“It will give her good exposure and let me know whether she can run it, like Autumn Glow in the autumn.

“Until you try them, you don’t really know and if she sees out a strong 2000 it opens up a lot more doors for us next year.

“There is the Australian Cup, the Queen Elizabeth and the Cox Plate, hopefully, as a five-year-old.”

Betting sites in Australia will offer extensive racing odds for the upcoming Might And Power Stakes.

New Test coach Stephen Fleming said he shared English cricket’s “obsession” with the Ashes and arrives with the goal to “beat the Aussies”.

Fleming was speaking to the media for the first time since being appointed in July and ahead of taking charge for the tour of South Africa in December.

Like his predecessor Brendon McCullum, Fleming is from New Zealand, the “little cousin” to Australia, in his words.

The next Ashes series is in the UK next summer, when England will look to defeat the Australians for the first time since 2015 and avenge a dismal 4-1 defeat down under last winter.

Asked if England are too obsessed with beating Australia, Fleming told BBC Sport: “No, because I have an obsession with it as well. New Zealand has an obsession with it, we love it.

“We want to beat the Aussies. We’re heavily linked to England performances. We have a deep desire to beat Australia in everything, as the little cousin. We are linked, and I’m incredibly excited about being part of it.

“You don’t think you’re ever going to get that opportunity. To have that opportunity and be part of it, I can’t wait.

“I want to be my best self and have a team that represents itself in the best possible way. I’ve got a vision of that and it’s aspirational. It will be brilliant.”

Fleming, the former New Zealand captain, did not taste victory in any of the 14 Tests he played against Australia.

He succeeds his former team-mate McCullum, who was sacked as Test coach earlier this summer, but remains as boss of the white-ball team. England won only two of McCullum’s final 10 Tests in charge, including the hammering in Australia.

Part of the criticism of England under McCullum and former captain Ben Stokes was their inability to adapt to the changing situations of Test cricket, as well as a lack of attention to detail.

Fleming is a great friend of McCullum – the pair are business partners. He described the difference between the two as being: “I’ll bet on the favourite and he’ll bet on the longest odds possible.”

On whether a Test team should have a brand or style, Fleming said: “I don’t think so. The greatest thing for a team to do is to be able to play conditions and situations.

“I’d love people to say we are well-planned, there’s a discipline and a really strong basic structure to what we’re doing, but there’s also a bit of flair.”

Nigeria’s Flamingos defeated Ghana’s Black Maidens 4-2 in their second match at the 2026 WAFU B U17 Girls Cup in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Harmony Chidi, Mary Dunstan and Kaosarat Akanji scored for Nigeria, who played the final 31 minutes with 10 players after Elizabeth Adesuyi was sent off.

The victory gives the Flamingos two wins from two matches after they opened the tournament with a 5-0 victory over Niger Republic.

Ghana also started the competition with a win, beating Burkina Faso 4-0. The meeting between both teams also renewed a rivalry from the 2024 WAFU B U17 Girls Cup final, when Ghana won on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Flamingos Take Control

Nigeria took the lead in the 33rd minute through Adegbuyi, who finished well to put the Flamingos ahead.

The FC Robo Queens forward was also part of the Edo Queens team that won the WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers earlier in September. She was named the best player of the tournament.

Nigeria doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time when captain Harmony Chidi scored in the 45th+2 minute.

Chidi had scored twice in the 5-0 win over Niger and had also scored a hat-trick against Guinea during Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

Ghana Fight Back

Nigeria’s comfortable position changed in the 59th minute when Adesuyi received a straight red card after bringing down a Ghanaian attacker as the last defender.

Ghana quickly took advantage of the extra player.

Three minutes later, Seidatu Wahab scored directly from the resulting free-kick to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The Black Maidens pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Nigeria responded with another goal in the 70th minute.

Mary Dunstan beat her defender and dribbled past the goalkeeper before finishing into the net to restore Nigeria’s two-goal advantage.

Chidi appeared to have scored again three minutes later, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Nigeria eventually sealed the victory in the 87th minute when Kaosarat Akanji scored from a free-kick to make it 4-1.

Ghana’s Gloria Ameaa scored in the 90th minute, but the late goal was not enough as the Flamingos held on for a 4-2 win.

The result leaves Nigeria unbeaten after two matches and gives coach Hakeem Busari’s side another competitive test ahead of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

The WAFU B tournament is being played as a single round-robin competition following Benin’s withdrawal. Nigeria will face the other participating teams, with Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Niger and Togo completing the six-team competition.

The Flamingos have also been drawn in Group B of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, where they will face North Korea, Puerto Rico and Poland.

The World Cup will take place in Morocco from October 17 to November 8, 2026.
