Time is ticking for clubs to do business in the January transfer window – and we have rounded up the latest Manchester United transfer rumours

Transfer deadline day is here – and Manchester United have just hours remaining to conduct any business. The Reds will be required to wrap up any final business by 7pm tonight.

Michael Carrick has almost dispelled the notion of needing any reinforcements with a perfect start to life in charge at Old Trafford. United earned a dramatic victory over Fulham on Sunday afternoon to continue his winning streak since taking over.

United looked to have blown a comfortable 2-0 lead after Raul Jimenez scored a penalty five minutes from time and Kevin curled in a fine strike in the first minute of time added on. But moments later Benjamin Sesko struck as the Reds made it three wins in a row under interim boss Carrick, climbing back into the Premier League’s top four.

With only the Premier League to focus on, the next hours may see more activity out of Old Trafford than in, and with that in mind, we have rounded-up the latest transfer rumours.

Gabriele Biancheri ‘wanted’

Rotherham are reportedly planning to make a loan offer for Manchester United forward Gabriele Biancheri. That’s according to Football League World, who are reporting that the Millers want a versatile forward and believe Biancheri fits the bill, having notched five goals and three assists in 10 Premier League 2 games this season.

Biancheri, who is eligible to represent Wales, Italy and Canada, signed for the Reds in 2023 from Cardiff and scored 12 goals in the under-18s Premier League in 2023/24 before scoring 22 times across under-18s and under-21s competitions last term.

Should the forward make the move to the AESSEAL New York Stadium, then he would be linking up with United team-mate Dan Gore, who joined Rotherham during the summer transfer window.

Cole Palmer ‘valuation’

A world record transfer fee would reportedly be required to prise Cole Palmer away from Chelsea. The England international has struggled with injuries so far this campaign, but has already cemented himself as the club’s talisman in his first two seasons at the club.

Chelsea signed Palmer for around £40million from Manchester City and would need an outrageous fee to part ways with the forward.

United have been linked with a move for the 23-year-old, but it is being claimed they would take an astronomical transfer fee for Chelsea to even consider letting him leave. The same report from Football Insider is claiming that Palmer currently has no plans to leave Chelsea and is said to be happy to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

Two midfielders ‘wanted’

Manchester United will make a ‘very strong’ move for midfielders in the summer. The position has been a priority for the club since the summer, and with Casemiro’s exit confirmed, United will need to add to their options, regardless of who ends up in charge.

Fabrizio Romano claims the club could even move for two new midfielders to bolster its ranks. United have been linked to Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Joao Gomes, and none are likely to arrive cheaply in the summer.

Leon Goretzka will be available for free come the summer, and United have been credited with interest. Romano claims that nothing is ‘advanced’ for the German amid United’s push for midfielders.

Lionel Messi discussed his regret of not having learnt English when he was in school in a recent interview. The legendary Argentine is known to communicate in Spanish, having spoken English only on rare occasions.

In an appearance on the Miro De Atras podcast, Lionel Messi shared that he regrets not having learnt English in school. He said (via All About Argentina):

“Not having learned English as a kid. I had the time to study at least English and I didn’t do it, and I regret it a lot. Later I found myself in situations where I was with incredible, amazing personalities, and I could have had a conversation with them but instead you feel kind of ignorant…”

Lionel Messi usually communicated in Spanish. He is also fluent in Catalan, having spent 17 years playing for Barcelona. However, he has been spotted speaking English a few times for advertisements. Some examples include a commercial for the movie Bad Boys starring Will Smith, a moment speaking to a referee during a recent MLS clash, and an eFootball commercial.

The current MLS year did not begin well for Lionel Messi, as Inter Miami suffered a 3-0 loss to Los Angeles FC in their opening MLS game on Sunday, February 2022. The Argentine led the Herons to their first MLS Cup last year and was also the winner of the MLS Golden Boot with 29 goals to his name. He was also named the MLS MVP (Most Valuable Player) for the second consecutive time.

After a rough start, all eyes will be on Messi to replicate the previous year’s success with Inter Miami.

“We should never stop enjoying life”- Lionel Messi shares valuable advice for his fans

In his aforementioned interview on the MDA podcast, Lionel Messi discussed multiple facets of his life, including sharing his message for his fans and followers. The legend of the game believed one should always enjoy the present, and said (via All About Argentina):

“Today is a good day to enjoy. Sometimes it’s hard. Not all of us go through the same things, and there are people dealing with different and difficult situations too. But we should never stop enjoying life. Like I said before, today I enjoy much more what happens to me, what I do, my family, my children, the day-to-day life, the small things. And well, it’s always a good day to enjoy, because we don’t know what might happen tomorrow.”

Apart from the new MLS season, fans are also eagerly looking forward to Lionel Messi leading Argentina once again in the 2026 FIFA World Cup after his triumph in 2022. However, the Argentine has yet to confirm his decision to play or not. He is also expected to feature in the 2026 Finalissima, where Argentina will face Spain in Qatar on March 27.
