Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is set to return to action after his doping case was resolved, bringing an end to a chapter that has kept him out of competitive football since late 2024.
The Football Association (FA), the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and Mudryk reached an agreement during his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), allowing the Ukrainian international to resume his career with immediate effect.
Mudryk had initially received a four-year ban after testing positive for meldonium in October 2024. However, the sanction was effectively reduced to the period he had already served following changes to WADA’s technical guidance.

Under the current standards, the concentration of meldonium found in his sample would no longer be considered a doping violation.
Although the settlement allows him to return, Mudryk accepted that he had committed anti-doping rule violations as part of the agreement. Throughout the process, however, he maintained that he had never knowingly taken a banned substance.
Reacting to the decision, the 25-year-old expressed relief that the case had finally come to an end.

“After a long battle, the four-year ban that was imposed on me has been rescinded, and I am free to resume my career with immediate effect.”
He added:
“This has been the most difficult period of my career. As I have always maintained from the outset of this case, I have never knowingly or intentionally taken any banned substance.”
Chelsea also welcomed the outcome, reaffirming their support for the winger.

“Chelsea Football Club is pleased that this matter has now reached a conclusion which allows Mykhailo to return to football with immediate effect.”
Mudryk is now expected to rejoin Chelsea’s first-team squad as preparations continue for the new Premier League season. His return also gives manager Xabi Alonso another attacking option after nearly two years away from competitive football.
Nigeria’s Samuel Ogazi has won the men’s 400 metres gold medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after producing a strong performance in the final.
Ogazi crossed the finish line in 44.25 seconds to claim the Commonwealth title and add another gold medal to Team Nigeria’s growing medal tally.
The Nigerian took control of the race on the final bend before pulling away from his rivals in the home straight to win comfortably.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards finished second in 44.82 seconds to take silver, while South Africa’s Zakithi Nene won bronze after clocking 45.21 seconds.
Ogazi’s victory adds another major athletics medal to Nigeria’s impressive campaign in Glasgow and further highlights the country’s strength in sprint events.
Fellow Nigerian Edidiong Okon Udo also featured in the final but finished eighth in 45.81 seconds.

The gold medal is another major achievement in Ogazi’s developing career and further establishes him as one of the leading 400m runners in the Commonwealth.
His impressive performance was one of the highlights of the athletics programme, as Nigeria continued to combine strong results in athletics and weightlifting at the Games.
For Ogazi, the Commonwealth title is a major step forward and another sign of Nigeria’s continued success on the international athletics stage.
Former wicket-keeper Deep Dasgupta remarked that Kuldeep Yadav has to be in the playing XI for the upcoming Tests against Sri Lanka at all costs, as opposed to his recent track record in terms of selection. Kuldeep Yadav was not even considered for selection when both Jasprit Bumrah and Washington Sundar were ruled out of the series finale against England. On that occasion, the team management went with a four-pronged seam attack, but ended up losing the contest after conceding 387 in the first innings.
Since then, Kuldeep Yadav has been on a solid run for Yorkshire in the Royal One-Day Cup. The spinner picked up eight wickets in four matches, gathering some serious momentum ahead of the Test series in Sri Lanka.

Deep Dasgupta stated that the team management did not agree with the fans and pundits’ opinion of Kuldeep Yadav, and backs him to be in the playing XI in Sri Lanka.
“Kuldeep Yadav has to be in the playing XI, has to be. I was expecting him to be in the playing XI for that third ODI against England at Lord’s. Not only me, but a lot of the others were expecting him to be seen. Unfortunately, those making the team did not see him, that is a different issue,” Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel.
Kuldeep Yadav has featured in one Test in Sri Lanka in his career, where he picked up five wickets. It was also his first overseas appearance after a strong debut during the 2016-17 Border-Gavaskar series against Australia.

The former India cricketer believes that the team management may have to think about fielding as many as four spinners in the squad, since the conditions might demand so.

“I think it is a good squad, based on the conditions there are more spinners than seamers. So, there is an opportunity to play with even four spinners, because it has happened it in the past as well, where both Sri Lanka and their opposition have walked out with four spinners. So, I think it was important to have that extra spin bowling option in the squad,” Dasgupta said.
“I think the squad was along expected lines, to be fair. Ideally, Washington Sundar would have been the first-choice off-spinner, but he is not there because of injury. I can’t think of any name that should have been in the squad, but is not there,” he concluded.
Team India handed off-spinner Saransh Jain his maiden national call-up after the injury to Sundar during the ODI series in England. The visitors also have other options like Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Manav Suthar in the squad.
The second half kicked off Saturday with what seemed a clear aim of ending Infantino’s decade-long presidency.
“No option should be off the table,” said European football body UEFA, whose president Aleksander Čeferin has led the fight against Infantino in a seismic week for FIFA.
“The current FIFA leadership has not only lost UEFA’s confidence but also that of many other members of the football family.”
Infantino was forced to scrap the plan early Saturday after his senior adviser who sat on a White House panel resigned and Asia’s football body joined Europe and North America in opposing it.

UEFA, the governing body of European football, issued its blistering statement hours after FIFA announced it was withdrawing its private equity plan.
“We cannot keep going on like this with secret schemes on fast-track timescales, cooked up by faceless individuals and of dubious benefit to the game,” UEFA said. “We must identify those responsible and hold them to account.”

“It is right that, in the coming days and weeks, UEFA will work with its associations and in close cooperation with other confederations to reflect on how this happened and devise a plan to make sure that it cannot occur again.”
Norwegian football federation president Lise Klaveness, an elected member of the UEFA executive committee, said steps must be taken to protect the integrity of the sport.
“The entire framework of international football cooperation was unnecessarily put at risk in pursuit of individual interests rather than the best interests of the game,” Klaveness said Saturday. ”This has been visible to many for a long time, including those of us elected to positions intended to safeguard checks and balances and provide ongoing oversight. We have to recognise that these mechanisms have not worked well enough.”
The president of the Asian football confederation, Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, said “the future of global football must always be shaped through proper consultation, collective dialogue and respect for the established governance structures of our game”.

Infantino’s senior adviser, Carlos Cordeiro, a former Goldman Sachs banker who represented the football body on the White House Task Force for the World Cup, resigned on Friday and urged other senior FIFA staff to speak out.
Hours later, FIFA chief operating officer Kevin Lamour issued a statement to The Associated Press, saying FIFA staff were deceived by Infantino’s lack of openness in planning the sale over recent months and that the project must not continue.
“It is the project of one person,” wrote Lamour, a longtime colleague of Infantino at both FIFA and UEFA. “Not only must this project not go ahead … but the time has now come for football political leaders to ask themselves the right questions and make the right decisions.”
Infantino had proposed spinning off FIFA’s commercial businesses – including World Cups and Club World Cups for men and women – into a $20 billion subsidiary with 20 percent owned by private investors.
A tumultuous week in international football is at least the third time Infantino has rocked it with an ambitious plan many in the sport saw as reckless.
But the fallout from FIFA’s Kushner-backed plan is the first time UEFA has acted quickly to create momentum for removing the man who was its former long-time employee.

In 2018, Infantino pushed a secretive offer of $25 billion from Japan’s SoftBank to create new competitions that posed a long-term risk to continental events for clubs and national teams.
In 2021, Infantino proposed playing World Cups every two years instead of four – an idea that also angered the International Olympic Committee, where he is an elected member.
Both plans created big rifts in the sport and were eventually dropped by FIFA.
Despite the turmoil, Infantino was re-elected unopposed in 2019 and 2023.

The third time shapes to be different.
November 18 is the deadline for candidates to enter the next presidential contest, exactly four months ahead of the vote in Rabat, Morocco, where FIFA has its African headquarters.
FIFA statutes allow Infantino one more four-year term in office. The failed spinoff venture seemed like a way to create a commissioner-like role for Infantino beyond 2031, likely paying much more than his current annual salary and a bonus deal of more than $6 million.
It would take 106 votes to ensure a majority in a contested election. Continents surely do not vote uniformly en bloc, but most of Europe’s 55, plus Asia’s 46 and CONCACAF’s 35 FIFA members would be a solid base.

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jose Soriano can match his career high in wins when he faces the Milwaukee Brewers in the second game of their three-game series on Saturday night in Anaheim, Calif.
Soriano (9-6, 3.29 ERA), rumored to be on the trading block heading into Monday’s trade deadline, won a career-best 10 games last season while also losing 11 games. It will be just his second career start against the Brewers. The first one didn’t go well.
Soriano’s final start of the 2025 season came Sept. 17 at Milwaukee when he was charged with the loss in a 9-2 setback. He allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in just 1 1/3 innings and left after taking a line drive with a 107.4 mph exit velocity by Jake Bauers off his right forearm.
Soriano walked off the field under his own power after that comebacker and X-rays of the arm were negative afterward, but he didn’t pitch again the rest of the season.
Soriano will be sad to see the calendar flip to August after a July that saw him go 1-1 in four starts with a 2.74 ERA. He allowed just 14 hits and seven earned runs in 23 innings with 16 strikeouts and comes in off a 4-3 victory at San Francisco on Sunday where he allowed one unearned run on three hits over five innings while striking out five.

“I thought he was really good today,” Angels manager Kurt Suzuki said after the game.
Left-hander Robert Gasser (3-4, 4.71), who never has faced the Angels, will try to give Milwaukee the series win. He is 3-1 with a 3.92 ERA in his last seven starts with 33 strikeouts in 39 innings pitched.
Gasser, who was obtained by the Brewers from the San Diego Padres on Aug. 1, 2022, as part of a trade for reliever Josh Hader, comes in off an 8-5 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday that saw him allow two runs on five hits in six innings with no walks and four strikeouts.

Milwaukee started a stretch of 17 games in 17 days with a 6-2 victory in Friday’s series opener. Brice Turang and Jake Bauers both homered during a five-run fifth inning, and rookie left-hander Shane Drohan allowed two runs on four hits over six innings to pick up the win.
It was Drohan’s fourth consecutive start of six-plus innings with six-plus strikeouts.
“He was fantastic,” Milwaukee manager Pat Murphy said of Drohan, postgame. “He was in control. This is a tough lineup for him to navigate with all the righties, and he did a great job. This kid has been, I don’t know how many in a row, but this has been probably six or seven in a row that he’s been in the sixth (inning). He’s kept us in every game he’s pitched.”
“Super impressive,” Bauers said of Drohan. “The guy is stone cold. He’s stone cold in the clubhouse, he’s stone cold in the dugout and he’s stone cold on the mound. I don’t know how he does it. It’s a pleasure to watch him pitch and work behind him.”

This doesn’t feel like great value, but it’s really the only way I’d be looking to bet the Cardinals this season. I don’t see where last year’s terrible defense (that didn’t even change defensive coordinators) got better, with the team more focused on fixing the offensive line and then using their top draft pick on a running back. New head coach Mike LaFleur did his best work under two offensive savants in Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, and his one chance running an offense on his own resulted in two awful Jets seasons in 2021-22. The next two favorites for fewest wins are the Jets and Dolphins, who get to play each other and could take themselves out of the running if they can split the series. This season should be all about getting in position to draft the quarterback of their choice in 2027.
Hockey India’s decision to change the national team’s jersey colour from blue to saffron has now taken a political turn. The federation recently unveiled the jerseys for the men’s and women’s teams for the upcoming FIH Hockey World Cup, drawing sharp criticism over the move. Former captain Viren Rasquinha questioned the decision to move away from the iconic blue colour, calling it illogical. The controversy intensified when Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey wrote to the Executive Board members seeking clarity on the discussions and decision-making process that led to the change.
While the federation initially described the shift as a technical adjustment aimed at improving player visibility on blue turfs, Tirkey’s communication has revealed deep internal disagreements and apparent procedural lapses within India’s hockey administration.
As Tirkey’s remarks continue to gain attention, a report by The Indian Express has further fuelled the controversy. According to the report, five members from the men’s and women’s teams claimed they were not consulted before the decision was made.

“I wasn’t asked or consulted. It is not true,” one team member told The Indian Express on the condition of anonymity.
“I was not aware of the change in jersey colour nor was I part of an official meeting where this was discussed,” an executive committee member told the paper.

“We are not paying much attention to these things. It was a collective decision by the team and the coaches. There was no mistake in it,” Harmanpreet said during an interview with RevSportz.

Meanwhile, Indian hockey vice-captain Hardik Singh expressed his thoughts on the new Team India jersey for the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup, saying that the blue-coloured jersey would often clash with the blue-coloured Astroturf surface and that trying out the Orange colour is a “team strategy” and a “tactic”.

McConnell may have taken the only gold but it was a successful Games for the boxing team as a whole with half of the 12-strong squad taking home a medal.
Michaela Walsh and Kaci Rock also leave Glasgow with a silver while Willie John McCartan, Garyn McAllister and Jude Gallagher, champion four years ago, all claimed bronze.
There was much made of the age profiles of the squad heading over to Glasgow, with eight aged 25 or under and nine competing at their first Games.

She was “speechless” to hear her name mentioned among those greats, but her achievements demonstrate her longevity and she’s not finished yet.
“I’m proud of my performances throughout the whole tournament. I have Europeans now in six weeks and I’m using this as a springboard to that and I’m ready to go again,” she said.
“[Four medals] It’s obviously an amazing achievement. I’m lucky, I love boxing and I’m doing what I love. It’s a lifetime of work and it’s amazing for the medals to show that.”

While Walsh is used to such an occasion, it was easy for younger members of the team to be overawed at a first multi-sport competition, but Rock showed maturity beyond her years, particularly in fighting back to win the semi-final after losing the first round.
For Rock, like McConnell, it’s a first major medal at her first Games and she believes it is just the start for her and many of her team-mates.
“I think so many people doubted our team because we’re a younger, fresher and inexperienced team but we have six medals coming home.
“We’ve proven we’re only getting started and there’s so much more to come.”

The Colts ranking fifth in DVOA suggests their first half shouldn’t just be written off as solely due to their schedule, and Pythagorean wins (based on point differential) put them closer to a 10-win team than an 8-9 team. Not only did Indy rank top 10 in yards per pass and run play on offense, the Colts played strong situational football and led the league in goal to go situations. Steichen has worked wonders with what he’s been given during his tenure as quarterbacks have come and gone, but this team appears to be a house of cards ready to fall. I can’t expect the offense to look anything like it did last year with Jones coming off a major injury plus questionable receiving depth, and this team could be one or two key injuries away from focusing on the pursuit of the No. 1 overall pick, particularly with a tough opening two months on the schedule. Those looking to take a little more risk can throw a sprinkle on the Colts to finish last in the division at +245.
European football’s governing body UEFA welcomed the news on Saturday, calling it a “victory for the whole game.”
In a statement on Saturday, Infantino said: “Having listened carefully to all the views, it has become clear that the project has created divisions of a nature that, regardless of the level of support, are no longer in the interest of the objective set out in the first place.”
What did UEFA say about Infantino’s scrapped plans?
FIFA president Gianni Infantino has lost the “confidence” of UEFA after his plan to allow private investment in the World Cup was withdrawn following a global backlash.
“The current FIFA leadership has not only lost UEFA’s confidence but also that of many other members of the football family,” UEFA said, while adding that the “task of rebuilding trust in FIFA” had only just begun.

While the European body welcomed the withdrawal of a proposal unanimously rejected by itself and also by other confederations, it did not hold back in its criticism of Infantino.
UEFA said “we cannot keep going on like this with secret schemes on fast track timescales”, and that now was the time for responsible parties to come together and prevent it happening again.
“It is right that, in the coming days and weeks, UEFA will work with its associations and in close cooperation with other confederations to reflect on how this happened and devise a plan to make sure that it cannot occur again,” they said.
UEFA said on Thursday that its members had unanimously agreed to boycott all FIFA tournaments, including the World Cup, unless the plan was withdrawn.
What were FIFA chief’s Infantino’s private investor plans?
Infantino’s proposal would have created a commercial subsidiary, the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), to run competitions like the World Cup, selling broadcasting and sponsorship, tickets and hospitality.
Under the plans, FIFA would sell minority stakes in FFE to private equity investors. The proposed investor consortium was to be led by “Thrive Eternal,” a fund run by “Thrive Capital,” which was founded by Joshua Kushner, the brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

European teams are the reigning champions of FIFA’s three leading competitions, the men’s and women’s World Cup, and the Club World Cup.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and CONCACAF, which runs the sport in North America and the Caribbean, soon joined UEFA in condemning and rejecting FIFA’s plans, although they stopped short of threatening a boycott.

As the opposition to Infantino’s plans grew, his senior advisor Carlos Cordeiro resigned in protest on Friday.
Later on Friday, the world governing body’s chief operating officer, Kevin Lamour, slammed Infantino, saying the plans were “the project of one person” who had “deceived” FIFA staff.
