MANILA, Philippines–Calvin Abueva had a perfect way to sum up another Converge defeat in the 2026 PBA Governors’ Cup.

“Ganyan talaga, talo na naman tayo,” Abueva said while being serenaded by San Miguel Beer fans before the end of Converge’s 126-114 defeat on Wednesday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The lines came from the OPM song “Olats” by Rivermaya, a fitting reference to what was another frustrating night for the talent-stacked FiberXers.

It was the fourth straight loss for Converge after starting the conference with third consecutive victories.

Converge kept itself within distance for the first two quarters, before San Miguel turned on the jets in the third.

Abueva had his best game at this point of the conference with 26 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

It was, however, not enough to lift Converge out of its slump.

Ugandan footballer and SC Villa captain David Owori has died after he was reportedly beaten during an attempted robbery in Kampala.

The 27-year-old defender was attacked by suspected robbers near his home in the Makindye area on Tuesday night.

According to police, the attackers allegedly tried to steal his mobile phone and other belongings before assaulting him. Witnesses said Owori was repeatedly hit with paving stones and left seriously injured.

He was rushed to a medical facility and later transferred to a private hospital in Kampala, where he died on Wednesday despite efforts to save his life.

SC Villa spokesperson Asan Kasingye described the incident as a “tragic ambush”.

Police have started an investigation and said detectives have processed the scene and collected evidence to identify those responsible.

Owori’s death has shocked Uganda’s football community. The Federation of Uganda Football Associations described him as “a true leader on and off the pitch”.

Owori was one of Uganda’s respected defenders and could also play in midfield. In 2024, he captained SC Villa to their first Uganda Premier League title in 20 years, helping the club win its record 17th league crown.

He also represented Uganda during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The Ugandan Parliament observed a minute’s silence in his honour, while lawmakers called for those responsible for his death to be brought to justice.

Owori is remembered for his leadership, discipline and contribution to Ugandan football.

Not too many Vikings free agents remain. Seeing Fabian Moreau take his talents to the American capital further lessens the pile of lingering talent.

Mike Garafolo of The NFL Network sent along the update, clarifying the terms: “Veteran CB Fabian Moreau is returning to Washington, signing with the #Commanders, who drafted him in 2017, source says. A double reunion for Moreau, who was with DC Daronte Jones with the #Vikings last year.”

The Vikings’ corner spot has welcomed a mix of change within some continuity at the top.

Byron Murphy Jr. and Isaiah Rodgers return as the top corners. Neither are elite but both are good ball players who have the capacity to slow down the other team’s top receivers. Next up are James Pierre and Chuck Demmings. Both are long-and-strong boundary corners; the critical difference is that Pierre is an old fella whereas Demmings is a rookie.

Otherwise, Minnesota appears quite happy to move forward with cheap youth. Think Dwight McGlothern, Zamaiah Vaughn, and other unheralded players who are looking to prove capable of hanging in the pros.

For a little while, some have wondered about Fabian Moreau returning.

The coverage player spent 2024 and 2025 in Minnesota, offering pretty sturdy play across those two seasons. Note that he had a short stay in San Francisco in 2025 but didn’t find a lasting home as a 49er, leading to a reunion deal with the Vikings. Losing Jeff Okudah for most of last year allowed Moreau to get bumped up to being the Vikings’ CB3, leapfrogging McGlothern along the way.

The Commanders are working through a topsy-turvy couple of seasons. Two years ago, rookie phenom Jayden Daniels — a stud — led Washington to the NFC Championship Game. What helped was the presence of Dan Quinn at head coach; the defensive mastermind worked well with the elite young QB.

But then reality hit pretty hard last year. The Commanders couldn’t keep the good times rolling, largely due to the sophomore passer missing time due to injury.

Part of Washington’s response has been to adjust the coaching staff. In fact, DC Brian Flores landed an interview with the Commanders before returning to the Twin Cities. Losing out on Flores — The Mad Scientist appears to like working with KOC — led to snagging one of the DC’s trusted assistants: Daronte Jones.

Mr. Moreau is therefore reuniting with a coach he knows well, as Garofolo notes.

Originally, the corner got into the NFL as a Washington draft pick. He got snagged at No. 81 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. He has since been with the Commanders, Falcons, Texans, Giants, Broncos, Vikings, 49ers, and now back to the Commanders. Maybe he’ll find his end in his beginning, bringing his career to a poetic ending.

Fabian Moreau is 32. Look for him to secure the CB3 or CB4 job for the NFC East for.

It’s hard to believe someone as legendary as Adam Copeland has never competed in an iconic venue like Arena México, but on Wednesday night he will get his first opportunity.

Copeland will be a part of an eight-man tag team match at All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) Grand Slam: Mexico event on Wednesday night. Copeland and his tag team partner Christian Cage (AEW’s tag team champions) will team with Matt and Nick Jackson to take on Jon Moxley, Daniel Garcia, Pac and Wheeler Yuta.

Copeland reflected on the chance to compete at the iconic Mexico City venue in a post on Instagram.

“Tonight I get to perform for the first time in The Wrestling Cathedral,” he wrote in the post. “Arena Mexico. The last time I had a match in Mexico was 2008. Mexico we got some catching up to do! I love Lucha Libre. Everything about it. The masks, the mystique, the pageantry. Can’t wait to get out there. See ya soon Mexico, bring your voices.”

Copeland previously wrote down a list of venues he wanted to perform in. Arena México was at the top of the list along with Wembley Stadium in London, Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto and the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

He will likely get to check off Wembley Stadium from his list when AEW holds its premier pay-per-view of the year, All In, at the venue later this month.

Collingwood can take a major step towards securing a Wildcard Finals berth when it travels to face West Coast at Optus Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Magpies were overwhelmed early in their 97-72 loss to Geelong, falling 49 points behind before producing a more competitive second half. MANILA, Philippines–Barangay Ginebra is mourning the loss of Ian Calilan, one of the longest-serving members of its utility staff.

Calilan died at the age of 51 on Wednesday due to a lingering illness, though it had not prevented him from performing his role with the Gin Kings.

In fact, Calilan was present during Sunday’s PBA Governors’ Cup game between Ginebra and Magnolia at Smart Araneta Coliseum, and appeared to be in good spirits.

He is the son of Cris Calilan, a player of Jose Rizal College’s NCAA championship team in 1972 and Crispa’s first PBA Grand Slam in 1976, and coach of Ateneo’s first UAAP title in 1987.

The younger Calilan had been with Ginebra dating back to the early post-Jaworski championship years bannered by Mark Caguioa, Jayjay Helterbrand and Eric Menk.

Fellow members of Ginebra’s utility staff and others around the league remembered Calilan for his friendly personality and his knack for telling funny stories.

Calilan also got to play with Ginebra coaches and utility during the Raffy Japa Cup in 2024.
